Good storyline, I should say. It's quite intense and sad. It's a great story with potentials.

You alternate between tenses always - according to your mood, I think- it would be better if you stick to one. Errors kills the urge.

The flashbacks're getting a tad too much. It will be better if you face the present and make little references to the past whenever necessary.

Your diction would need proper refurbishing, too. Your punctuation are not the greatest one would run into. Benign work on them.
Also, you should try to be more punctilious necessarily; it pays. You have found a way of narrating things not so germane.

Yes I've deviated for a while because that's how I'll want to show how it all started to till the present. The flashback has 2 or 3 episodes before I'll continue with the present.

I guess I'll have to rush them up and get to the part where I started. As for the errors, I've noticed, my lack of proof reading has made me left it that way. .. will work on that.

The car is in front of him now...  Silvester is in the car waiting for his boss...

"Sir, sir " that's the head of HSE department Mr Joe. He is running towards David to give him the news..

"Sir i know you are wondering how it all happened. It appeared to be accident."

"An accident?! How did it happen?"

"It is an electric pole, the fed ex delivery bus  ran into the pole then it fell into the building and started the fire."

"You dont mean it"

"Its true sir, I called the fire service and they are here already.. I'm sorry sir they got here late, there was a little traffic along"

"Was the driver drunk or what? On a broad day light like this he couldn't see there was a pole there. Some people still need a thorough driving lessons. What rubbish! But I hope no casualties?"

"No sir, everyone is safe. Just some part of the building that'll need a little touching."

"I need to see it"

"Okay sir"

They walked a short distance to the other side of the building to have a look at the damages caused..

"Okay no much damages, that should be the male restroom and Mr ades office right?"

"Yes sir"

"Okay you take care of everything Joe.  Every member of your team should be fast about this. Also address he staffs on what to do, I'll be on my way to have that meeting.

"Yes sir, thank you very much sir"

Joe ran back to meet the people taking out the fire.

Fire alarm emanating from the building...

"Fire in the building?!..Where could the fire be coming from?
David is on the floor to the conference room, when he realized the floor is deserted.
Where is everyone?"
David asked himself wonderingly..

David had been in his office waiting to be called out that the guest were ready for the meeting..

Winnie had tried to reach him when she heard about the emergency but couldn't. .

He had a bulletproof and soundproof door, so how could he have heard except for the fire alarm that made him come out..

The security were forcefully moving the staffs out, they wouldn't let winnie reach out to her boss, she tried to tell them but the noise and screams and distractions didnt let them hear her.

"Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire!" Workers wailing from downstairs, David could hear them but he wanted to be sure what was going on.

He bashed into the conference room to check if he would find anyone to help but he met it empty.

Where he stood he could see the smoke coming from outside into the building. . Obviously the floor below him was on fire and everybody had ran for their lives.

From the speakers...

"Fire alarm Everyone please evacuate the building, Please take the stairs..."

On hearing that, David was still shocked he stood still confused...

"Oh my God, Thank goodness I found you sir" that is Silvester his personal security man and driver...
The securities outside actually thought you had used the elevator already... Please i'm afraid you'll have to take the stairs because the elevators are on hold still"  he said while making way for his boss to go down the stairs.

David and silvester are running down the stairs when these thoughts came to his mind..

"Why would they even forget their boss in the first place? When things like this happens what should come to their minds is the safety of their boss first? ...these incompetent securities and staffs were just daft.. i'll handle them myself.." MtcheWw shifting those thoughts first...

"How did this start?... I don't get, thought all the electronics were serviced last week.."
So many questions from David

"Sir please no time for explanations yet, we need you downstairs as soon as possible, your safety first sir.

David and silvester were jumping three four steps down at a time, they were almost at the last floor when he started to ask again.....

"Okay what about everyone I hope they are safe?"

"Yes sir, they all left the building immediately they heard the alarm. They are downstairs sir.."

"What about the fire service, Have they reached out to them?

"Yes sir, they are on their way sir"

"Okay good"

They are on the ground floor now, he moved as fast as he could to the park where other staffs were.

 Silvester had ran faster than him to drive out his car. David  could see how surprised most of the staffs were, they were shocked seeing him..

They actually thought he was out of his office before them, probably on his way to a better safe place. they thought!. That's why most of them ran away without even checking up on him. Too bad!

"Hello Winnie,  speak up"

"Sir the conference room is set for the meeting" Winnie.

"Ok thanks" david

Winnie is David's receptionist and his PA too, she is a very competent workaholic as her boss. She is always at her boss service.
She used to work in the marketing department in his office before she was moved to her new office working as the CEO's PA.
David saw the hard works of her and how she presents herself since then he has been very impressed with her. He told the HR to send her straight up. These are the kind of persons he enjoyed working with.

David is at the office now after so much drinking last night and getting off alot from his chest and mind.
He really needed that sit out with his buddy which he hardly does because of work. He is never free to find out a good time. This time he did and he didn't regret it a bit.

Tayo(davids ex now) was gone and he had a wonderful night rest alone with some cool music blasting from the speakers by micheal bolton  drift away while he laid to rest. He was humming to the song...
"Give me the big voice to free my soul,
  I wanna get lost in your rock 'n roll
  And drift away"
He enjoys that song times that this...

It was a wonderful night for him. He laid down smiling and humming to himself and all the things that had bothered him. He was glad he can move on and not go back to his ex.. He was still going to be mute about the breakup to anyone because it was still fresh in his head.

He was about to cut the call with Winnie when she said

"Sir?" Winnie

"Yes Winnie! " David

"Tayo has been calling,...said she's been calling but no answer. She left a message earlier this morning before you came and she still called again asking to see you, that it's very important. She said she sent you a mail apologizing about something I know not about. .. I hope everything is alright sir?" Winnie asked

She asked like she knew something..

"Yes Nothing to worry about Winnie,.. absolutely nothing. And do me a favour, When she calls back tell her to stop calling else you'll loose your job"  David said

That made Winnie shocked hearing she might loose her job. She's gonna learn to shut her mouth and not pry deep into her CEO's private affair. She wasn't expecting that from him...

"This should be the last time you'll tell me anything related to that other than work, have I made myself clear" David warned her with so much anger from his voice...

"Yes sir" Winnie answered and got the message..

"Good, now get to work" david

He banged on the intercom angrily. Glad he didn't break it in the process.

He rounded up and got himself what  would be needed in the conference room.

 Winnie knocked on the door twice and walked into his office, she looked like she has been scared out of her own skin because she has never heard her boss threaten her job before, this was the first and he was damn serious. She dare not bring up stuffs like that again. 

She picked up his tab all that David has gathered for the brief meeting at the conference room with some contractors..

He was about to hibernate his desktop when he saw the messages from tayo she sent earlier, he didn't bother reading them, he went straight and clicked on the delete option and hibernated his system, walked straight for his meeting, shifting that thought off his ex aside,  he's got to keep himself working and being worried about any woman matter is gonna be the last thing for him. He has had enough already right from school days.

He got to the conference room and didn't believe his eyes...

"Oh I forgot you're a workaholic, as the boss you have a lot to do" Phil said

"Whatever you want to call it" David said and rolled his eyes at him...

"Yep yep
So how's mom and dad?" Phil made that sound and asked

"They are good"

"Where are they now?

"On vacation in Boston "

"Oh okay, the love birds I see"

" hahaha, na so na They are old and they can't still get enough of eachother, I wish I had someone who can cherish me the way they cherish themselves. David said so softly..

That made Phil cleared his throat...

david looked up at him..

David:   "What?"

Phil:  "Oya spill the beans... how your babe?"

"Wetin do her..I dunno.. she.. should ...be ...fine

He studdered..

 "Something is wrong and I know it.." Phil said

"Nothing" David replied

"What do you mean nothing" asked phil

"I said nothing" David replied

"You guys broke up?"

Phil is trying to get words out of him

"What is your own sef?! Abeg dey drink your drink jor" David said trying to deviate

Phil:  " dave I'm your man, you can tell me anything you know, likewise me, I tell you every every.. so if it's a secret you know it's safe with me. What I'm I saying sef.. I've always kept your secret"  Phil said jokingly...

"Phil u don't understand" David still trying to deviate

"Of course I do, did she cheat on you again?" Phil asked like he knew..

 David didn't expect that question.. he took a deep breathe and looked away.. it took him like 10 secs to answer. He knows he can't lie to philip.

"Yes" he said it like it was a relieve.

"God that babe, I knew it, I talk am say e go happen again" Phil hitting his fist on the table like he was about to blow something. ..

David rolled his eyes like he was expecting to hear those words

"Yh but we are done now I couldnt take it anymore from her. She has lied and lied and lied. MtcheWw infact e to much."

"But are you just realising she is lier and a cheat too? Ha that babe really closed your eyes to see the bright side. I hope you've woken up and smelt the coffee?"

"I'm better now phil. I'm sorry I stubbornly refused to believe you guys. I just wanted to see if we could pass that stage but I guess I got stuck." David said

"So where is she now?" Phil asked

"Left her at home"

"What is she doing there?" Phil asked shockingly and wondering what she was still doing there...

"Getting her things out, look man I don't want to talk about it. Thats why I'm here to have fun so I can forget all that." He said while taking a sip from his drink..

"Guy I no go lie, you don really try for that. Me o font know how patient and tolerant I can be for such person. I have zero tolerance for promiscuous women.." Phil said irritably. .

"Yeah I know, I understand but everyone isn't the same. I was too blind to see that. Thats by the way sha " He said waving the thoughts with his hand and taking another gulp from his drink

"Yes, that's by the way. I'm pray you get over it sooner." Phil said

"You want to club?...because I want to"  David asked

Philip raised his eyebrow like he couldn't believe David asked such.

"Sure so that you can get yourself.."  Phil said

David grinned because he knows that is totally awkward coming  from him...

"What time is it? " David asked

"9:30pm, David are you sure you want to do this? You know you have to be at the office tomorrow." Phil told him trying to remind him clubbing on Thursdays is such a bad idea...

"Screw that work tomorrow, for once I want to have fun, it's been a very long time..." David said

"Well I wouldn't stay long with you, you can stay and catch as much fun as you like, make sure you book a hotel if you know you'll be staying here all night." Phil gave him a little advise to avoid story that'll touch.... safety first bro"

" No need again jare. I just realise  I have something important to do on my laptop. I hope that girl has left that house because her sight disgust me."David said..

" I hope so too" Phil said

"It's nothing... just traffic for kaduna street at dline"

David lied to cover up his breakup with tayo because he didn't want to start that kind of conversation with him else They'll start with stuffs like "I told you from the very start that that babe is this that babe is that blablabla" those are the last things he wanted to hear.

They are at a popular bar in dline named "d twentytwos 22",
They are well known there for their drinking... but David isn't a drinker it's just Philip and some few friends who occasionally joins them.


The waitress is here...

"What would you like to have sir?"

She smiled at the handsome men who were engrossed in their conversation..

"Uhm..8 bottles of heineken, two bottles of red label and some ice pls..."

"And you sir? "

"Just 2 small stout for now pls"

"Okay sir"

She smiled at david and left to get them their order

David who didn't notice that and didn't care just picked up his phone and made to delete tayo's photos and videos ASAP. .

Philip: "You go talk say you no see how that babe give you that smile huh.."

David "Huh"

Philip " Na so you go dey pretend for all these girls, them go dey kill themselves for you while you go dey act as u no send them"

David " hahaha, Phil u no well abeg, u don come again o! I no get strength for this kind talk now. I just wan drink get myself.

"Abegi
But what's going on?
I've never seen you want to take so much bottles like these before.. this one you wan high, hope everything is fine??"
 Phil asked concerned

David isn't a drinker but he chose to get drunk that day because of his emotional trauma..

David: "Everything is okay.. what is it?!!..can't a man have some little fun other than the old times?"

He said while spreading his arms open to express himself...

Phil:  "Guy I'm a little worried about you now.. make you no go drive enter person building with highness this night o!"

David : " nothing go happen"

He said while pressing his phone..

Phil:" Your face dey dull, and you never Crack any joke since you land, unlike you I for don dey Crack my ribs by now.."

David "Some days are like that phil"

The waitress is here...

"Can you also order that pizza across the street for me? Thanks .."

"Sure, why not sir, anything for you sir"
 
He gave the money to her and she left quickly to get it


"Mhmm anything for you sir..."
Phil said in a mockery tone

David: whatever phil, I know say you go talk"

"mhmm... phil said like he just remembered something..
you remember that babe I told you about the other time at the office?.."

"Which one?"

"The one that her dad is the manager of that breweries at rumuomasi.."

"Ekene?..."

"Ha you remember her name sef.. I think say you go forget"

"I don't forget that easily na.. so what about her?"

"She is coming over tomorrow to spend the weekend with me.."

" oh wow Good for you.. so fast?!.. you're a sharp shooter right from time. I know you na.."

"Hahahaha guy u no well. But u know say I no dey dull. If I see what I like I go for it immediately, no wasting of time.

"I trust you sha

"So I'll invite you over on Saturday so.."

He didn't let him finish he cut him short..

"No no need I'll be at the office to finish up those works piled up before Monday"

David needed some distractions from what has happened.. he needed to clear his head and he thought being in the office was a good idea.

David: "You don't have to... You know when someone cheats continously they get so used to it not minding people are watching.
Yes my parents saw you at cisco hotel in GRA on the 6th of April, on my uncles birthday. 
Yes tayo yes they did.
Don't try to lie now.  I didn't want to believe them at first because I thought you had changed.
So tell me who the f**k were you with and what exactly were you doing there with that married man?"

Tayo: I..i..i.. i...just...went..to..see...I'm so sorry pls I'm really sorry. It was the devil"

David: "Your studdering because you havnt cooked your lies properly. Of course you'll blame it on the poor devil when you can't give yourself a little self control.
Tayo you were my everything, I didnt trade you for anything in this world. I loved you so dearly that's why I kept my promises.
I didn't believe all what my friends and family had to say about you. I played a fool all these while but you failed to realise that.

Tayo is now crying loudly with all these touching words coming out of his mouth..

David "Just stop those tears tayo. You are so fake. Ive had it up to here.

He raised his hands to his neck like his is slitting his throat trying to tell her he is fed up..

You had your chance but you blew it out of sight and mind. Go ahead with your life style because I'm so fu*king done here. Get your remaining bags and leave my apartment. I don't want to ever see or hear from you again."

Tayo: "No no it hasn't come to this..pls honey pls."

She walks faster trying to stop him from saying more..

David: "Don't even dare touch me. One more step tayo one more step and I'll throw you out myself. You're just a piece of work I knew it'll come to this that's why I stalled all these while. I'm going out and when I come back I don't want to see you and your shadow..you get that You can keep everything I got you cus I don't need them.

He picks up his car keys

Tayo "No no"

This time she was so loud crying

"Pls don't go don't leave me. I promise this is the last time. Pls don't go, I still love you."

David: "Don't even say that again you hear me, don't ever repeat that. You've had your own share of cake so keep eating it."

Tayo: "Pls I'm begging you...."

"Get out of my way miss or I'll. .."

Her phone began ringing...  she didn't want to pick it from the table where she left it because they were trying to settle up..
It stopped ringing and began again, making Dave to go check the phone

he purposely walked straight to the phone to check the caller..

"Christian, who da f**k is this one again?  Oh!lemme guess, one of them right?!.. he asked

She was silent nothing could come out from her moth

David : "of course you can't say anything because I'm right. I don't know why I'm still standing here and talking to you. You are a shame and I can't deal with you. Just leave..."

he took the phone with the anger  and smashed it on the tiled floor then stomped out leaving her to finish up and go...

He turned on his car ignition and drove out of his compound.

I did not miss that persuasion bit. Well if that is the case, I won't call it an arrangee. A marriage can only be called an arrange where the bride and the groom who never met themselves were brought to meet each other for the purpose of marriage. The man likes the girl and the girl thinks he is OK. Boom, they are married.
