Isn't it possible for her to sign up for a self-funded contributory pension scheme on her own?

No. maybe when the micro pension (mainly for informal sector) comes on aboard fully.

Unfortunately, for now, being in the formal sector, to prevent money laundering, it must be from her salary source.

Where the employer is unwillingly, it becomes tricky because PENCOM will likely capture the employer as a partial compliance organisation and will swop on it using her contribution as evidence, this might affect her job ultimately which is the what she is trying to prevent.

It doesn't work. The MD settles pencom and firs. Once they have been settled at the detriment of fellow Nigerians they will provide them with way of avoiding paying the pension. I know what I talking about.
A typical example of what they do is to give appointment letter to their children, close relatives as employees and some few trusted members of staff and register as evidence of compliance with full collaboration of top officials of pencom and firs.

This is wrong friend- please try out this scenario you just painted with PENCOM and tell us the outcome.

Thank you for the revelation

Sad submission, lazy and pathetic concurrence.
Can you do your research? PENCOM is independent of FIRs and it is completely wrapped in a 360 degree check and balance system. It may not be perfect but on this issue and integrityit scores 100%.
Do some research or use your company to try it out and see how you will seamlessly run outnof business!

Nothing working well in nigeria.

The Pension scheme is one that truly works well if nothing else. I observed the law is skewed towards the advantage of the subscribers. It really works and already being used as case study across the world asides Chile's.
Let's stop this generalisation and unbridled pessemism as a people.

Hi @ Nickxtra

Further to your question.

1. The implication of non-remittance is going be

A. a penalty imposition on the employer with full determined interest paid as may be audited covering the years of non-compliance.

B. a legal suit against the employer at the discretion of the regulator PENCOM while ensuring that the employees don't get victimisation.

C. the company will be unable to work with federal government i.e. execution of contracts.

Please, it is very important that we pay very important attention to this and very crucial to restate that this is about the worker and the new act as amended 2014, is to the benefit of the employees where employers are mandated to pay 12% of their Basic Housing & Transport (BHT) allowance before tax direct from company purse in addition to the deduction of 8% from the employee base on his/her BHT tax free.

For all you care this employer may have been evading tax to the detriment of the employees because it becomes a crime in this instance and can lead to prosecution of the "MD" and other responsible officers of the company.

This is your sister's right and she has every rights to demand it - If you will, we will be glad, as a champion of peoples' pension, to resolve this expeditiously on behalf of the company.

I will follow you and you can provide the details of the organisation in an atmosphere of confidentiality (inbox) and I promise to assist resolve this swiftly and I will carry you along every step of resolution without any issue or repercussion to your sister.

Thank you.

@Medacares suggestions is very much in order too and I will be glad to give a specific email to send it too.

London. Central London tomorrow.

Saw a post on some guy's experience on the Nigerian train - thought I share that of inter-state (but video is refusing to upload) and will share that of the underground/overground in London (intracity- perhaps between zone 1 -4 or 3) or perhaps around Stamford Chelsea tomorrow and see how it compares.

I know a lot of what people say about the BRT in Nigeria but you will be shocked how people could be cramped in some of these trains (usually during peak periods) too in London! Until we begin to use the amenities in Nigeria and engage the people involved, it may not get better.

While a lot of people drive around in London, millions more, including the wealthy and highly placed white collar job execs ride the bus and the trains because it is cheaper and stress free (well maybe not the right word) but you are free from all dem parking troubles! In Nigeria, a regular banker can't even jump the BRT, claiming rich or sophisticated - measuring success by the number of cars or latest car he drives - one he has to get a ridiculous inflated interest loan to get and can't even trade in anytime to upgrade to the latest one anytime soon! A race of keeping up with the Jones!

Seriously, Nigeria has potential for real, only when the people themselves become realistic and honestly live humbly and stop forming unnecessary class that they forget to task the leadership to do the right things.

As old as everything in London is, it still works compare to the new life springing up in Abuja, Lagos, Enugu and the likes.

At the match against Everton yesterday, many of the fans wanted Kelechi Ihenacho on but he only ran the sidelines - shame.

Freezing cold all through!

Missing Manchester already ..... Back to boring London to the Emirates to cover the Arsenal Match....

Wish I got the Man United match - reason to stay back in Manchester!
