PoliticsIbori Turns Prayer Warrior In Prison by Trut(op): 7:09pm On Sep 11, 2012
Says, “I’m Reading, Analysing Bible, Fasted For Four Days”

FORMER Delta State Governor, James Onanefe ibori is now experiencing the golden truth about the Biblical saying that “whatever a man soweth, that he shall reap.” Ibori sowed the seed of corruption in his 8-year rule as Delta State helmsman. He was crafty enough to escape
Sources from the prisons, said the former Delta State Governor is now an imprisonment in Nigeria, but not in the United Kingdom where he was slammed with 13 years imprisonment by a Southwark Crown Court in London. Now, James Ibori is alleged to be full of regrets for his past misdeeds. He has also reportedly turned a new leaf. ardent student of the Bible which he now carries always as a companion.

“Ibori has been visited by the Holy Spirit; he is no longer the same. From the way he now talks, it seems old things have passed away and all things have become new. I observed that he said a little prayer when he alighted from the prison van and when he was standing in the dock. I heard something like God is in control from him as he walked away from the court. He was really looking very sober, I think he may have become a born again Christian,” the source said.
The former strongman of Delta politics has now become an avid Bible reader as he recently told a relative in a message that he has been reading and studying the message of the Bible as well as engaged in fervent prayers in the prisons.
“Ibori inferred in a censored message he sent to one of his relatives who interacted with me that he spent most of his days in detention reading the Bible and praying fervently. He said he has fasted about four days in prison. He described his prison cell as being okay but not too comfortable,” our sources added.

PoliticsNorthern Leaders: Don’t Be Fooled By Jonathan And Obasanjo's Cold War by Trut(op): 12:46pm On Sep 11, 2012
The Arewa Awareness and Solidarity Movement (AASM) has advised northern politicians not to allow themselves to be fooled by reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has fallen out with President Goodluck Jonathan because of Obasanjo’s insistence that power return to the north in 2015.

A statement by the spokesman of the Movement, Alhaji Garba Bafashi, said the latest media report of the purported rift between Obasanjo and Jonathan over the transfer of power in 2015 was a smokescreen by the former president to confuse, disorganise and throw the north off the scene politically, with a view to weakening it even further.

The statement explained that political treachery is in Obasanjo’s nature and therefore warned the north against falling prey to his latest antics.

It recalled that Obasanjo aided and abetted the disruption of the zoning arrangement in 2010 shortly after the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua.

According to the statement, in 2007 Obasanjo imposed power shift to the north on his own terms with a hidden agenda, which manifested itself even before President Yar’Adua died.

Having been humiliated in 2007 and 2010, it said, the north no longer has any basis to trust the former president.

It maintained that the purported split between Jonathan and Obasanjo was a make-believe script his former aides were acting out to mislead the north once again.

The statement further warned northern leaders against leaving the political future of the region in the treacherous hands of Obasanjo, who, it alleged, was once again seeking the opportunity to punish the zone because of the grudges he had against its leaders.

Alhaji Bafashi, in the statement ,advised the north to be wiser rather than take the risk of repeating the same mistakes of trusting a man to whom honour means nothing.

EducationPatience Jonathan Receives Another Doctorate Degree (in Absentia) by Trut(op): 12:00pm On Sep 10, 2012
Nigeria’s first lady, Patience Jonathan was awarded another doctorate degree during the weekend by the Delta State University, Abraka.

The award was received on her behalf by the minister for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, who showed appreciation for the gesture by the university.

She dedicated the award to Nigerian women, and said the award would strengthen her commitment to Nigerian women through her non-governmental organisation and other services.

According to reports, the first lady pledged to support the state in the task of building the university.

She said, “Let me assure you that this award has further strengthened my commitment to give the Nigerian women and you the basic knowledge through my NGO, the Women for Change and Development Initiative.

“Let me on behalf of my co-awardees thank the Governor and the university authorities for the award. I promise to be a good ambassador of the university,” the first lady said.

The co-ordinating minister for the Economy and the minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was also awarded a doctorate degree alongside the first lady.

As honourary doctorate degrees pile up for the first lady, we can’t wait for her to return home from her “moment’s rest” abroad.

BusinessOther Countries Are Doing It – CBN Insists On The Introduction Of N5,000 Note by Trut(op):
Despite the hullabaloo trailing Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to introduce N5, 000 notes, the director persists that Nigeria economy needs to move forward, thus they would forge ahead with the printing of the new single note.

The apex bank also said it has resolved to stop the production of polymer currency notes.

Its Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Ugochukwu Okoroafor, spoke with reporters in Abuja.

He said the apex bank would sensitize the public on the introduction of N5, 000 notes into the economy.

According to the CBN spokesman, “people the world over thought polymer will be a great replacement for paper currency but it has not turned out the way it was planned”.

Polymer notes, he said, are “difficult to destroy, incinerating old currency notes through briquetting was difficult in the case of polymer notes in an environmentally friendly way.”

In addition, he said polymer currency “is produced by just one company in the world, an Australian company called Securrency.”

The CBN, he said, has tried using polymer currency notes “and decided that polymer is not the way to go. It is time to move in the right direction than to continue in a direction that may not be favorable; it was a decision that didn’t quite turn out well, the whole world experimented with polymer and people thought that polymer was okay until they learnt otherwise.”

This move to do away with polymer notes he said is consistent with the CBN position of changing with times and technology, saying that “we must move forward and that is why the currency review is important”.

He said: “We are about to carry out sensitization campaign on the introduction of N5000 note and the restructuring of the nation’s other currencies. Everything will not take off at the first quarter of next year. We are starting with a particular currency in the first quarter of next year; there will still be currency and coins for the denominations that will be coined like N5, N10 and N20 so that both will be operational side by side.”

Okoroafor said it would be cheaper to print and issue N5000 note.

Traders, who move money around, he said, would appreciate the need for the issuance of N5000 note while those at the low end of the transaction chain would also benefit from the new currency restructuring initiative.

He said the apex bank has started talking to relevant authorities, including members of the National Assembly on the currency restructuring initiative.

The restructuring exercise, he said, is within the mandate of the CBN.

Okoroafor said the president has given approval for the campaign to begin.

He said: “We want to be among the top 20 largest economy in 2020; we believe in it. What we should do is pray for Nigeria to have a financial system that can support one of the world’s largest economies. We cannot do it, if we don’t have the right framework.

“We want to ensure that life is made a lot easier for Nigerians and will continue to improve the system.”

Okoroafor said the report that N40 billion would be spent to print the N5000 note is false, saying the cost is in the CBN annual report.

Benue State Govt just woked up from their sleep because ACN has blown the fowl nyash.
PoliticsBenue State Government Has Dragged Doyin Okupe To EFCC by Trut(op):
Benue State Government has dragged Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, on Public Affairs, before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the recovery of over N635.7 million owed the state government for a contract not executed.
Benue State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Benjamin Ashaver, told journalists in Makurdi, yesterday, that necessary petitions had been sent to the anti-graft agency. He said the move became necessary to help the state recover the funds.

It will be recalled that Governor Gabriel Suswam, weekend, had hinted that he was not properly briefed on the matter by his predecessor, former Governor George Akume, hence his inability to dabble into the issue. He said this left him in the dark as to what actually transpired at the time.

However, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, yesterday, insisted that the current administration was now bent on recovering the balance of N635.7 million from the failed contract.

Contract
Ashaver explained that Akume awarded the contract to Okupe’s company, Value Trust Investment Limited for the construction of 230-kilometer rural roads on April 21, 2004 at N2.3 billion.

He said: “The government at that time made a 30 percent advance payment of N691 million to the contractor to commence work and by July 17, 2006, the total amount paid to the contractor stood at N886.8 million.”

He said although the project was expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of award, the contractor failed to meet the target, adding that the amount of work done was later valued at N195.7 million before the contractor abandoned the site.

Ashaver said: “Due to non-performance, the contractors have been reported to EFCC for the recovery of balance on the advance payment of N635.7 million due to Benue State Government.”

Akume speaks
Former Governor of Benue State and Senate Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, has insisted that he presented a formal hand over note to Governor Gabriel Suswam contrary to the claims of his successor.

Senator Akume’s reaction is coming against the backdrop of claims by his successor, weekend, that he received no hand-over note from the immediate past governor to assist him recover over N600 million owed the state by Value Trust Investment Ltd. for a failed contract.

Special Assistant to Senate Minority leader, Mrs. Becky Orpin, who spoke with journalists in a telephone conversation, yesterday, claimed that all the liabilities and assets of the state government was duly handed-over by his boss to the present governor.

She said: “If there were no hand-over notes, how then did he start running the government at that time?”

ACN reacts
Meanwhile, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has again asked President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack Dr. Doyin Okupe as his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, especially in the wake of the disclosure by the Benue State Government that Value Trust Investments Limited owed it N635.7 million.

In a statement issued in Lagos, yesterday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the Presidency will only further hurt its image if Dr. Okupe remains in his position as the President’s spokesman as more damaging revelations will soon follow.

What the Presidency and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, must appreciate, according to ACN, is the fact that the appointment of a Presidential aide is a projection of the President’s purpose, personal philosophy and sense of direction.
