Good afternoon peeps, I received a call from someone claiming to be one of the teachers at my child’s school informing me that my child had fallen on the stairs in school and had a broken leg. The teacher claimed to be calling from life link Hospital where the child had been rushed to and required urgent attention as she was bleeding profusely. I was asked to urgently send 200k so the child could be attended to. When I informed the caller that i have a medical card and that would go to the hospital, the caller said that time was of the essence as the child needed urgent medical intervention, before it was too late. The “teacher” handed the phone to a “doctor” who confirmed to me that the best thing was to send the money urgently to enable them commence treatment. I was ready to go to the hospital. However, i asked a final question: “What is the name of the child?”, upon which the caller immediately disconnected the call.

When i narrated this incident to another colleague, he told me that a friend of his was actually conned in the same way and she parted with 300k

To avoid being a victim:

1.   Remain calm.

2.   Ask them to tell you either the name of the child, or the name of the school and class/stream the child is in.

I thought I should share this with all of you, especially those of you who have school going kids, so you can be extra careful when handling strange calls. Please also advise your family and friends to be cautious.

"My SIster Sandra is only 29 years old. She was admitted to hospital for a simple gall bladder surgery. She was sent home after a couple of days, but when my mother sent me a picture of how distended her abdomen had gotten I advised her to return her to hospital and she was then operated on to drain the fluid. However her stomach is still distended she's not mobilising nor eating or drinking. One of the Dr's decided she needs to be fed via PEG (this goes through the nostrils and ends up in the stomach), however the consultant overide the decision and they decided she was suitable for central line. However a senior consultant secured the central line but in the wrong place, no consent was signed from my sister or my mother.This led to the complication of having and all the food going into the pleural cavity of her lung. They had to rush her back to theatres to correct this, they then discovered my sister has a clot due to the incompetence. And as the days went by she developed fluid on her lungs.

At present she's vomitting and not eating or drinking . My mother decided to transfer her to a specialist hospital, as she is deteriorating so far and the hospital are in denial of this fact. She is now been transferred to a private hospital, which they confirmed that her condition is getting worsens and shes deteriorating very quickly. The specialist hospital are willing to operate on her ASAP, but it costs £15,000 (when converted) . And will not accept her for operation unless half the money is recieved. I am literally begging, I have never done anything like this but my sister is literally dying and i feel as though I cannot help her. If it asnt for my nurse training my sister would've been dead because my mother is older and probably doesnt fully understand the medicl terms they use to explain about my sister"
