Celebrities / Nigerians Blasts Daddy Freeze On Twitter For Celebrating Husspuppi by tsticks(m): 9:04am On Jun 26, 2020
Controversial Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has come under intense attack from Social Media users following his silence on the arrest of internet fraudster, Hushpuppi.

A video on Thursday went viral on social media showing Daddy Freeze sometime in 2019 dining with Hushpuppi and his gang who are currently being charged for allegedly defrauding over 1.9 million victims to the tune of $435.6 million.

In the video, Daddy Freeze could be heard laughing and mocking legitimate income earners after Hushpuppi said his driver collects N700,000 monthly salary.

“Hushpuppi’s driver collects 700,000 in a month, yet people abusing him on social media are working as houseboys with a pay of N35,000,” Freeze said.

His comment has since stirred reactions from Nigerians especially since the vocal OAP known for criticizing pastors for their wealthy lifestyle has maintained silence over Hushpuppi’s arrest.

Business / Ikeja Electric Set To Roll Out Over 400,000 In Next Two Years by tsticks(m): 9:06am On Jun 24, 2020
Is this a joke? Are these people playing with our emotions, you really want to meter 400k people in a whole of 2 years?

Ok here is the gist as i saw it on their website

keja Electric Plc (IE), Nigeria’s leading electricity Distribution Company, has metered over one hundred and twenty thousand households between 2018 and June 2020. This is in line with its commitment to bridge its metering gap. Could this really be true?

The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric, Felix Ofulue disclosed that in order to achieve the mandate of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to bridge the metering gap and reduce the incidence of estimated bills, the company has doubled its efforts to realize its objective of metering all its customers in the shortest possible time.

“The company plans to meter another 400,000 customers over the next two years. Apart from eradicating estimated billing, Ikeja Electric’s metering program has also provided jobs, directly and indirectly, for thousands of Lagosians and Nigerians in general, particularly during the lockdown” he said.

According to him, the metering of its customers under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme is ongoing, despite logistical challenges emanating from the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has also metered Maximum Demand (MD) customers in the network and conducts periodic recertifications of the meters in line with Regulatory procedures.

“In addition to consumer metering, Ikeja Electric has also metered all the 33kv /11kv feeders from the injection stations ensuring energy accountability across its delivery points. In addition, the local distribution transformers have also been metered up to 100% while the metering of newly installed transformers after completion of the project is ongoing” he explained

Ofulue urged customers who are yet to apply for meters, to take advantage of the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme and apply through the IE portal map.ikejaelectric.com, using their Ikeja Electric’s account number on the bill to log into the portal and update their KYC (Know Your Customer) details.

He noted that Ikeja Electric has set up a debt resolution panel in the Six Business Units to address complaints on outstanding bills and other related issues to ensure reconciliation while customers are processing the application for meter.

With regards to payment for meters, he stressed that “customers must always pay into the designated bank account provided by the MAP and they must always include their Application Reference Number (ARN) when making these payments”.

In the same vein, he also explained that with the upward review of meter prices by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the new price for Single Phase Meter is now (N48,263.37) Forty Eight Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty Three Naira and Thirty Seven Kobo while Three Phase Meter is now (N89,069.33) Eighty Nine Thousand, Sixty Nine Naira and Thirty Three Kobo. All prices are inclusive of VAT and became effective from June 1, 2020.

However, customers who have paid before June 1, 2020 under the MAP scheme, but yet to be metered should forward their payment evidence stating Account Name, Application Reference Number (ARN) and IE Account Number to FinanceMap@ikejaelctric.com for prompt confirmation.

My own is that there should be power supply... leave all these story

Business / Not All Big Girls Are Olosho... Some Are Access Bank Staff by tsticks(m): 4:29pm On Jun 22, 2020
A man sets record straights on twitter earlier today with Instablog9ja when they asked a rhetoric question which most twitter uses found exciting.

Instablog9ja: Seun works in a bank. Her salary is 90k. She lives in Lekki, uses iPhone 11 and drives a brand new Hyundai.

What is Seun?

Man: Seun is Access Bank Staff... Car is on loan deducted from salary reason salary is low... iPhone 11 is from the company's cooperative sales. Lobatan

This generated a lot of reactions from other twitter users, as they found the response apt

The Instablog9ja handle further asked: You forgot Lekki house rent

Man: Seun is still living with the parents in Lekki! O fe ji ni

Business / Ikeja Electric Caught A Lagos Resident Stealing Energy Through Underground Wires by tsticks(m): 9:32am On Jun 22, 2020
Energy Theft has been a serious problem to the entire value chain of the power sector in Nigeria. Apparently the theft of electricity increases prices for customers and reduces safety. It leads to misallocation of costs among suppliers, which can distort and hamper the efficient functioning of market operators. Recently Ikeja Electric caught a resident who has been stealing energy over time through underground cables.

The person who perpetrated this illegal act is a resident of Daleko Fatokun Street in Abule Taylor. He engaged in this theft after requesting that his account be suspended in 2019. Since then, he has been illegally tapping energy from another source.

Watch the terrible video below

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2642090416059082

Apart from the illegality and the negative impact of the activity on the bills of neighbors, it is also a major safety threat. Currently, we are taking appropriate steps to address the matter. Energy theft is illegal, kindly desist from it.

Business / Ikeja Electric Begs Customers To Pay Their Bills As Lockdown Has Been Lifted by tsticks(m): 5:12pm On May 05, 2020
Dear Esteemed Customer,

Following the partial lifting of the lockdown order by the Federal Government, we are hopeful that business activities will gradually return to normal.

We advise that as you go back to your respective work and business schedules, you continue to adhere to all the safety rules of personal hygiene and social distancing.

Throughout the period of the lockdown, Ikeja Electric focused on increasing supply while suspending the disconnection of customers who were yet to settle their bills. This showed our understanding of the challenges posed by the current realities

However, as we begin partial lockdown, we use this medium to inform our customers of the need to start paying their bills to avoid power cuts as we have also lifted the suspension on disconnection activities.

The request is necessitated by the need to meet our obligations to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), as paying your bills will enable us to meet our financial obligation to the market operators and this will ensure the country continues to generate supply

We thank you for the continued understanding and for allowing us to serve you.

Celebrities / Chef, Fitness Enthusiast & DJ! Meet Ademola Olajide & The Many Hats He Wears by tsticks(m): 9:37am On Apr 06, 2018

Corporate chef by day, Disc Jockey at night and Fitness enthusiast at leisure, variety as they say truly is the spice of life. Lagos born Chef Demola is making a living from what he loves the most; the dream of the average Nigerian youth – who are carving out niches for themselves, as creatives, outside of the regular professional career paths. As a Chef, Demola’s passion is to cater to companies and organizations. His work ethic is a blend of creativity, passionand the fun bubbly vibe of youth. His Diploma in Culinary Arts from the Institute of Culinary Education in New Yorkcoupled withthe top-notch training he received at Cecil Harlem and his work experience at Blue Smoke restaurant New York are evidences of his appetite for excellence. He debuted his catering company; Spice Rack in January 2016 in Lagos,Nigeria. They offer a great assortment of both local and continental dishes. Every meal from Spice Rack is a mind blowing experience.

Please tell us about yourself.

I’m Ademola Morakinyo Olajide, I was born in Lagos, Nigeria. I obtained a BSc in Sociology from Redeemers University, Osun state, Nigeria. I have a Master’s degree in Marketing and Media from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. My culinary story is quite funny, I started cooking in high school, and then I was the only boy in our Food and Nutrition class, which was where I first discovered my love for the kitchen. After my Masters’ degree, I stayed at home for a year and then I knew it was time to turn my skill into my passion. This led me to one of the best culinary schools In America; Institute of Culinary Education New York, where I obtained a Diploma in Culinary Arts. I had the privilege of meeting and working with top chefs like Chef JJ Johnson and Marcus Samuelsson. I was an Extern at the Cecil Harlem and also worked at events for Blue smoke restaurant in New York. After all my culinary experiences in America,I came back home to start Spice Rack in January of 2016 because frankly, there’s no place like home.

How did you get financing to start off your business?

Honestly, getting capital wasn’t easy at first but luckily for me, an angel investor believed in my dream and invested a sizeable amount into my start-up.

Please give us some insights on the expansion of the business.

We commenced operations in January 2016, then I was working out of my mother’s kitchen at home, as the business grew and more orders came, we expanded to having our own kitchen in December 2016. Our vision is to be the catering company of choice. We plan to achieve this through maintaining and exceeding our standards and making customer satisfaction our foremost goal. How far do I intend to go? There are no limits. I intend to keep going higher, improve on myself as an individual and as a business owner while breaking barriers.

What’s the staff strength of Spice Rack and what category of individuals do you cater to?

We currently have 7 full time staff and 8 contract staff. We cater mostly to corporate organizations and private individuals.

What’s the most difficult challenge you have faced running your business here in Nigeria?

(laughs) The most difficult challenge we face is getting clients. In Nigeria as we all know, getting clients is usually based on who you know before your skills and abilities are recognized or acknowledged. Another challenge is dealing with the unpredictable traffic in Lagos especially when you have a timed delivery to make.

Describe an average day in Chef Demola’s life.

I wake up at 6am most days, I am in the kitchen by 6:30am, cooking up a storm and making sure the day’s order is being prepared to ensure timely delivery; which is something I’m very keen about. Menus are created weekly or monthly depending on the client, this is done by my team and me. When work is done I go to the gym or just relax.

Who would you say inspires your entrepreneurial drive?

Michael Olajide, who happens to be my father.

How do you unwind?

I work out at least 3 times a week, drink and hang out with friends, swim occasionally, work on my DJ skills, and see the world when I can.

If you weren’t a chef, what would you be?

I would be a full time Disc Jockey (DJ). I just recently started practicing in my leisure and will be putting out my mixtapes soon, so be on the lookout for @MANNDEMO

What are the top 3 ingredients you can’t do without?

Bell Peppers(Red and Green), Knorr Chicken stock cubes and Ground Chilli

When do you plan on opening a restaurant?

There is currently no plan to start a restaurant because of the cost of running one, the uncertainty and extremely high risk in that line of catering; but I hope to be able to diversify in the near future.

Who would you consider a great privilege to grace your table?

Rick Ross & Richard Quest

Being a man in the cooking business, would you say acceptance from clients come easy?

I don’t think presently acceptance comes from being male or female because in Nigeria now most chefs (not pastry chefs) are men, so Nigerians have come o the acceptance of male chefs. The comments I get are based on my looks. I get comments like “fine boy like you, are you sure you can hold a knife let alone cook”

Do you see yourself leaving the cooking business in the future?

No, putting smiles on people’s faces with my cooking makes me happy and pumped up

Would you say your family background influenced your passion for cooking?

Actually it was a combination of watching my dad cook as well as being the only male food and nutrition student in high school.

What is your advice to other young entrepreneurs in Nigeria working hard to make ends meet?

Keep pushing and seeking new opportunities. Doing business is not as easy as it seems on paper or in a discussion, but I believe with hard work and persistence the sky will be the beginning.

Something negative is happening in Konga!
Business / Sola Adekoya Resigns As Konga CEO Barely A Month After Acquisition By Zinox by tsticks(m): 10:52am On Mar 29, 2018
Sola Adekoya has resigned from his position as the CEO of Konga, one of Nigeria leading online stores.

Sola Adekoya replaced Sim Shagaya as CEO. He broke the news on his twitter handle yesterday as he wishes Konga well. In his tweet…

Shola Adekoya
@Sholaextra
Over to you Nick. Wishing you and @shopkonga all the best as I join the Konga Alumni. Thanks to all the current and ex-Konga staff that gave me their best towards building a great Konga while I was at the helm of affairs

What is surprising about Sola’s shocking resignation from Konga is that it’s barely a month after Zinox acquired Konga that he is resigning from a highly esteemed position of the CEO of a leading online retail store in Nigeria.

The question on the lips of some Nigerians is If this move by Sola was necessitated by the new management or board of Zinox or if it’s part of his exit strategy.

With the perceived excitement on the face of the Ex CEO of Konga when the company was acquired by Zinox one would have thought he still has an ample of time to spend with the organization but apparently it didn’t play out that way.

Sola, before becoming Konga’s CEO served as the Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer, and in the space of 3 years moved to become the CEO of the company.

There is no doubt that during his time as the CEO he tried his best to set the company on the path of greatness and did his best to ensure a smooth acquisition by a Nigerian conglomerate…

We wish Nick success as he assumes the position of the CEO of Nigeria’s prestigious eCommerce firm.

Business / Let’s Talk Marketing with Steve Babaeko by tsticks(m): 5:02pm On Jan 30, 2017
It happened again last week Saturday on WhatsApp on Let’s Talk Marketing, this time it was also with one of the top brand management gurus in person of Steve Babaeko, below is the recap. Enjoy!

Moderator

And we are live.
A wonderful evening to everyone!
It’s time for Let’s Talk Marketing Live Chat!
My name is Daniel Iyam, the moderator of today’s chat.
I hope you are excited as much as I am because it is always a fantastic time to talk with great minds in marketing and communications.
Today, we have the CEO of X3M Ideas, Steve Babaeko, discussing “Communication and Branding in a Hyperactive World.”

With well our two decades in the industry and footprints that are indelible, it is hard not to recognise Mr, Babaeko. He has created and still creating innovative marketing and advertising campaigns most of which have won both local and international awards. Ladies and Gentlemen, I will like to welcome our Lead Discussant, a man who brings undeniable zest and energy to a profession he holds so dearly. Steve Babaeko.

Thank you for joining us.

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Hello Daniel. Happy to be here

Moderator

Great. Let’s jump right into the first question. Do you agree that Brand Management is increasingly becoming more challenging because of the super active and noisy world we find ourselves in today?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

I totally agree the noise decibel is ultra high at the moment for so many reasons: more brands on the shelf these days coupled with the fragmentation of media it’s more difficult for brands to make the right impact

Moderator

I absolutely agree. I mean, the attention span of people is now in nano-seconds. Here is a follow up question

Steve Babaeko (SB)

That too!

Moderator

Simultaneous consumption of media is increasing as well. It is common place to find people watching TV and surfing the internet all at the same time! Do you think this affects the comprehension of advertising messages?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Once upon a time marketing people had to contend with only 1 screen: The television. Today you have to contend with Tv, mobile, phone, tablets/desktop and game consoles thus as marketing people we have to evolve creative ways to engage the target audience

Comprehension of a message is clearly affected because of the divided attention.

Moderator

I guess this will demand more engaging adverts like you have rightly said.

Next question. Brands now have to talk with not at the consumer. How do they control the narrative to always ensure that they are the ones in the driver’s seat of these conversations?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

First off, the days when brands control the narrative and those days may never come back again. What we have today is democratization of communication. The consumers are right now having conversations about various brands as we speak. The best brands can do now is join the conversation and also engage

Moderator

Moving swiftly on to the next question. Everyone is ‘fighting’ to be heard today. Is there a point where one can say people/brands are saying too much or ‘fighting’ too hard to be heard?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Yes, there is. It’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Remember we already established short attention span as part of today’s consumer traits, it’s important to be succinct and creative I.e have a compelling message delivered in an entertaining way.

Moderator

Great! Let’s move on to the next question. Should brands/businesses always respond when they are called out? Are there times when silence will do the magic?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

In today’s world, a brand should endeavour to respond when called out. We live in a world driven by search. Consumers search to find out about brands to make purchase decisions. If a brand is called out it’s important to respond so the brand’s response can show in the search

Moderator

So, in essence, you are saying they should respond to every and anything. Nothing should be too trivial not to respond?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Not the frivolous ones of course. If it’s serious and it calls out and challenges the essence of or value proposition of the brand, it should be responded to. In today’s world, a brand cannot afford to be seen as detached

Moderator

Understood
Members can now send in their questions please
While we wait for the first question
Let’s me throw in this one
How much value does a great reputation really confer on a brand in today’s hyperactive markets?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Reputation today is priceless. It’s everything

Audience Question

Hey Steve. What would you say is the greatest weapon on influence for Brand Communication? Liking? Authority? Scarcity? Commitment and Consistency? Social Proof? Or Reciprocity? Which your favorite?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

I will put my money on a healthy combination of all. Today every brand must have inbuilt social value

Audience Question

Can our market be described as hyperactive with brands cutting drastically their marketing spend?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

There are so many brands competing in the Nigerian market from organized retail to open market, so one can still call this market hyperactive

Audience Question (Analyst Consult)

Hello SB, How do you reposition a “brand” that has been already perceived to be archaic or “old school” ? Even when such brand is trying to adopt latest technology and marketing tools to drive new innovative products/services

Steve Babaeko (SB)

I see clients try to reposition their aging brand by just creating ads with young people on skate boards and basketball. Sadly that’s not enough. A brand’s DNA has to re-engineered then you can push from inside to extrinsic

Audience Response & Question

Hey Steve I kinda disagree. Nothing wrong with revitalizing an ageing brand. Look what Isiah Washington did for Old Spice. It’s all about Effective Repositioning. And correctly too.

But my question is ; when do you decide a brand needs to be “killed”?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

You can reposition but to make it a whitewash or window dressing. Let it be organic and deliberate from inside out. And you are right old spice is a good example

Audience Question

Great one. Bless your heart, Uncle Steve. And thank you, Daniel for the insightful questions. Please what are the best tactics for talking with and not at the consumer?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Isaac, the best way to talk to consumers today is to engage with them. Any brand talking down at consumers today is talking to itself cos nobody is listening

Moderator

Like Mrs Ukoh said last week. The consumer is king!
While we wait for anymore questions from members
Here is another one from me,
Emotional connection is a buzz phrase in the industry. Are we overplaying it? Do you think a brand/business can make a lasting connection with consumers other than connecting emotionally?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

The brand that owns the consumers heart also owns his/her wallet which why emotional connection is key.

Audience Question (Mrs Iquo Ukoh)

It appears that brand Instagram posts do not generally have reactions or engagement from the Instagram audience. Why so ?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Mrs Ukoh, a lot of brands in Nigeria are just waking up to the reality of digital, no surprise that a lot are underutilizing platforms like IG

Audience Question

How can a brand capitalize on some “unplanned” surge of mention. Is it something safe to do? For example, when Union bank went viral on twitter as the only account that PMB had. The name Union bank was trending. What could have been done to leverage on such mention and is such kind of mentioning safe for the brand?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

No harm leveraging on mentions on digital platforms. The thing to realize however trending topics are just what they are, trends. What can be done is to surf the wave and make it last for as long as one can

Audience Response & Question

Thanks for the answer. How exactly can such trends be sustained?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

You can take the conversation off social media and let PR aggregate the conversation and share offline
That’s just one way

Moderator

I believe that is the last question
I will like to highly appreciate our lead Discussant Mr. Babaeko for joining us. Any last words from you?

Steve Babaeko (SB)

Thank you so much for inviting me It’s always exciting to share knowledge. I can be reached on twitter: steve_eko Instagram: stevebabaeko. Let’s keep the conversation going

Moderator

Thanks Mr Babaeko. Thank you everyone for being a part of today’s chat. My closing quote is from Jim Rohn. “If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary”.
Let’s make it another date next week Saturday. Till then, be safe, sound and successful.
Remember, for all suggestions and enquiries, send a message or call 08055940019.

Celebrities / Oyinlola Famodun's Wedding Proposal - A Model For Viral Marketing Campaign. by tsticks(m): 1:51pm On May 03, 2016
I find it a bit difficult to give this article a title but eventually I did, you can call it "The Beauty Behind Creativity" or "How To Make Your Marketing Campaign Viral" whatever you decide to call it still fits into the context of what I expressed in this article. It's about Oyinlola Famodun's wedding proposal to Yemisi, taking a look at it from a creative and marketing point of view.

Every business is interested in increasing its marketing return on investment (ROI). Effective marketing seeks to reach audiences when they are most likely to be open and attentive to the message. Business owners need to think carefully about their delivery mechanisms; newspaper, radio, TV, social media, and others. Also, they have to consider the creativity of messages that are to be tailored to these target audiences.

"Effective marketing seeks to reach audiences when they are most likely to be open and attentive to the message"

Research has it that an average Nigerian is being exposed to at least 100 - 500 marketing messages in a day and you can imagine how each message will fight to gain first place in the thoughts and minds of this individuals to propel the action, a purchasing action or conversion as it is measured in some industries.

This all boils down to how creative these disseminated messages were; these involve its marketing approach, the product and business model.

"Everyone wants viral growth, but very few people understand how to create it".

First, your product itself has to be worth talking about—and in addition, your creativity should be unique .

While reviewing some Ads and marketing campaigns on the internet; some were captivating but nothing was compared to the freshness, creative, breath-taking and goose-feel effect of Oyinlola and Yemi's proposal on YouTube, With almost 3000 views( awesome) just within some weeks.

Oyinlola defiled the cliche that Nigerian men are not romantic. Romance was left in the hands of the women to paddle

Watch video here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPbBEE0fAz4

From the scenery, settings, costuming, make-up, models (musicians), music, to the camera works; all technicality was on point. Oyinlola's proposal must have been a well-thought and researched one, he certainly must have watched other wedding proposals and be dissatisfied, fueling the energy to make the moment not only unique and of course memorable for his future wife but for all viewers to enjoy its creative power.

The wedding proposal projected a perfect duo, creating an atmosphere of love, romance, ecstasy, fulfillment and uniqueness.

Observation

Obviously, it took a creative mind to be able to get the right words, actors, music, timing, costuming, camera works and audience. The introduction of the Nigerian song titled Femi, which means marry me by Nigeria-born musician/ songwriter Brymo that ushered the creator/protagonist/groom - Oyinlola himself, left viewers completely captured and emotional. Irrespective of the location, he represented his culture with pride and gait.

Lesson 1.

Most brand owners would not have infused indigenous contents into their campaigns and adverts due to its chosen environ or settings. So many adverts shot outside the shores of our beloved African continent carries so much foreign taste that we forget that the higher percentage of consumers hail from Africa, and they also forget it is an avenue to inseminate culture in the ads.

A good example is the GLO free tomorrow Ad, shot by a Hausa man selling Suya, we could obviously perceive culture being represented in the Ad.

Modern consumers yearn to be exposed to marketing messages that reflect their lifestyle, locality, culture and identity. Creativity spans from those little yet important factors that should come into our copy when composing our messages. If business owners can apply this same creativity and smart work with deep thoughts to their message content and marketing approach, then sales will not be their problem.

Using Oyinlola Famodun and Yemisi Orekoya's creative wedding proposals as a perfect example we will use this medium to summarize few creative steps to attain effective marketing pursuit.

Oyinlola Understood His Mission

As delicate as wedding proposals are, Oyinlola understood his mission, he was aware of the intricacies that were lurking at every corner, debilitating against the success of his mission. He understood the task ahead, which is the first step in achieving his aim.

Oyinlola Famodun

The Goal

Lesson 2

As a business owner, you need to understand your business niche by answering questions like

1. What do you do?

2. Who needs what you do?

3. How do you best approach these projects?

4. How much am I willing to pay for these projects?

If you can answer these questions properly, then you are on your way to business success.

Oyinlola Broke the Mission into bits

The video started with a planned disguise, a restaurant setting, with a waiter by the corner and Yemisi's presence with friends all come into view and then our supposed waiter intentionally messes Yemisi's dress. All actions were intertwined into each other, no action was left out, no haphazard work was done , the scenery played into each other because the mission was broken into bits and clear.

Oyinlola Famodun

The Makeup

Lesson 3

Business owners should endeavor to break the mission into specific goals, you can start by jotting down the activity goals (calls per day, proposals per month, referrals per call, etc.) that you can control. You set results goals (sales per month, amount per sale, profit per sale, etc.) to measure your progress, and track them closely.

"Fuel your action by increasing your activity and measuring the results".

Oyinlola Understood his Need and Reached out to it

There was a need to create a unique and memorable wedding proposal. To create an atmosphere of romance, warmth and love. Did he reach out for it? Of course, He did, if not, admirers, viewers and even event planners won't have a story to reflect and guide them on establishing wedding proposals.

Lesson 4

Always consider your customers' needs assume your prospects will buy only what they need. How can you convince them of that much aim need? Emphasize the features of your product or service that reduce costs and solve problems for the customer. Reposition your wares if need be, be creative in your sales and marketing.

Oyinlola initiated and maintained a favorable attention.

Right settings, right orchestrated audience, right mission, right result.

Lesson 5

Effective marketing, referrals, strong sales skills, and strategic questions are the keys to creating favorable attention. Diligent follow-through and above-and-beyond customer service are the keys to maintaining it.

Oyinlola Sold on purpose

Watching the video will only connote one thing; the creator knew what he was doing. He understood what he wanted to do and achieve at every stage of the proposal, was it the effect of the amazement in Yemisi's eyes or her uncertain mood and surprised face?

Lesson 6

As a business owner, you need to know both what to do and why you're doing it at every step along the way. Who are you targeting and why? What are you going to tell them and why? What are you going to ask them and why? What is your proposal going to look like and why? When are you going to ask for the order? If you don't feel sure of yourself at every step of the selling process, get some training or guidance.

Oyinlola asked, listened and acted

A lot of research work had to be done before the success of Oyinlola' wedding proposal, it is certain that he asked people, perhaps friends of how well the idea was, he listened to their views and acted in line with the concluded concept.

Lesson 7

These three words summarize success in sales. Marketing messages must be creative, planned, relevant, and direct. Listening skills must be highly developed. And You must respond and take action that proves that you listened to the customer and want the sale.

Oyinlola took the responsibility not only the credit

As a role model to many people, he realized his position as a creator and sender of a message to one who shared a special place in his heart. He took the responsibility of creating the message and tailoring it through the best medium.

Lesson 8

As a sales agent, a brand owner you need to realize that you are the team leader. The company looks to you for direction and supports your effort. To build a strong support team willing to go the extra mile when you need it, give your team the credit for everything that goes right, and take the blame when it goes wrong.

Oyinlola worked on the basics

The basics were fully established, location was cozy and on point, ambiance was laced with the right music and actors in view. A deeper research on Oyinlola's personality could reveal that he's more of a reserved and conservative person. He broke out of his shell in order to produce something as courageous as this video portrays.

Lesson 9

Make a decision to improve your weaknesses, and set goals to force yourself to do the things you don't like to do. Be more creative in your prospecting, fact finding, and presentation skills. Imagine the perfect sales person.

Oyinlola developed his attitude

As a reserved person, you doubt if he could be able to create such an impeccable performance.

lesson 10.

As a sales agent, you must develop your attitude, conquer your fears, change the beliefs that limit your success. Your thought habits control your commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, resilience, happiness, and confidence. Be aware of them, decide which ones are unproductive, and then make a commitment to change. Attitude is controllable. You can become the person you want to be!

Oyinlola maximized his time

Oyinlola kept us in suspense, wondering how this idea will evolve into something beautiful. And in less than six minutes ,he achieved his aim, no boring dialogues, and actions, all between that little time frame, he kept us glued and captivated our hearts.

Lesson 11

When planning your campaign, focus on your goals. Test every activity for its importance and urgency. Create an ideal schedule, and test your actual time use it daily.
Oyinlola and Yemisi's wedding proposal has paved the way as a model for an effective marketing creative campaign. We all appreciate the creativity and yearn to be partakers of this blissful union. One thing that intrigued me was bellanaija's caption of the vdeo on her blog that reads

"WOW! Oyin & Yemisi’s London Proposal Deserves an Award"

Celebrities / A Letter TO The Nigerian Bloggers - Linda Ikeji & Others by tsticks(m): 11:26am On Apr 21, 2016
Blogging has been around for a while now in Nigeria and it’s obvious so many people even organizations are taking advantage of it. consequentially, the rate at which young Nigerians are creating blogs is at an alarming rate even when many of them seem not to really understand the nitty gritty of it. However, This can be attributed to the general opinion that blogging is a remunerative and booming online business that could turn anyone millionaire overnight. If i hear, ask BellaNaija how long she has been into blogging (in a passive voice).

It is not bad when you blog to make money online especially when you are equipped with the right content, but it becomes dire and disheartening when you are looking for content by all means even if it means publishing a defamatory story. This is common with most entertainment and gossip bloggers. They have ostensibly adopted the western blogging culture where bloggers publish stories which are unverified and groundless.

Nonetheless, people blog for different reasons, some people just blog for the fun of it, some others blog to educate and enlighten people, and there are some people whose blog are purely for gossip a perfect example in Nigeria is Linda Ikeji’s blog. Blogs are now carrying breaking news, gossip, and little tidbits that intrigue the media. In fact, many news agencies now monitor blogs, and even feature their own blogs, sharing information about the news and the stories behind the news, attracting a new audience. Like I said there is nothing bad when you do it rightly.

This is where I am going. In a quest and desperation to attract audience and traffic by all means, most bloggers in Nigeria are fond of publishing stories that are capable of casting aspersions on people and tarnishing their images online. There is nothing wrong gossiping about people on your blog, but it becomes insensible and erroneous when the story is unconfirmed and baseless. It is not a MUST you post something on your blog if you don’t have a worthy content to publish.

There are some bloggers in Nigeria who are experts at posting stories that are fictitious, misguided and unsubstantiated. As a blogger you need to understand the complexity and sensitivity of what you do, whatever you post online about someone stays there for as long as your web domain is active, it is just a simple logic for you to always confirm every story you publish to ensure they are not mere rumor. Some of these bloggers are following the steps of Sahara Reporters but they forget these guys (SR) always have their facts right.

Stop causing troubles with your content, many couples have been separated by bloggers, many homes have been disintegrated by your content. Stop causing more harm, be professional with your blogging, anyway even if you don’t want to be professional always verify your stories.

To the amateur bloggers who are professional COPY and PASTE writers, i think you guys do more harm than good, you are even worse than the popular bloggers, because all you are waiting for is to steal content from another website, so verification of story is not even for you guys, but I will advise you blogging is not by force, look within yourself you might be good at something else, stop wasting your precious time spreading gist that are fallacious, get serious with blogging or quit.

In case you are still oblivion of this, blogging is a profession for some people and serious part of journalism, so whatever your hand finds doing do it well. Don’t aspire to be the next Linda Ikeji, Bellanaija, or Stella Dimoko Korkus, Be yourself, carve your own unique niche and explore it to its fullest.

Technology Market / Yudala Copied Konga’s Campaign & Creative Idea – The Turf Is Fierce! by tsticks(m): 3:09pm On Apr 19, 2016
Ecommerce competition in Nigeria is becoming really tough, at first, the competition was vicious between those regarded as the eCommerce giant Konga and Jumia, but along the line Yudala and Payporte came into the scene to join the fierce battle for who controls the market.

It’s not a new thing to see eCommerce companies emulate each other when it comes to launching campaigns and value propositions but it becomes a major challenge when one company is forced to repeat the same campaign another has done. This is, however, the case with Yudala replicating Konga’s campaign verbatim.

Just about two weeks ago precisely April 7th Konga launched a campaign tagged “Light up your world” which mainly focuses on selling items that can serve as an alternative source of power, ranging from generators to inverters and batteries and many others.

I was surprised when I got an another newsletter recently with the same campaign name, at first, I thought Konga refreshed the campaign but until I peruse the content of the mail and behold it was Yudala.

Actually, there is nothing really wrong when you monitor what your competition is doing, but when you simulate what they do it only depicts a lack of creativity, Yudala’s website is gradually becoming like an extension of Konga cheesy.

Take a look at some of these banners on Yudala’s website, it’s practically the same as the campaigns Konga ran or still running.

The creative for the HP voucher giveaway campaign was simply adopted from Konga’s website.

Konga yesterday also launch the Xtouch E1 smartphone below is the banner for the same campaign on Yudala’s website

It’s no gainsay that competition in eCommerce is getting fierce. And like I said earlier there is nothing bad when you monitor your competition but there is something bad when you plagiarize them.
Career / 7 Lessons I Learned From Marketing Managers In Nigeria by tsticks(m): 11:35am On Apr 15, 2016

For the few number of years I have spent in the marketing department I’ve been able to learn from those I believe are ahead of me and I think this is worth sharing. Marketing is one of the most interesting department in any organization, but in this part of the world, the word “Marketing” has been misconstrued to mean selling a product or service on the street. So many have replaced marketing with sales. Marketing is broad and is also made up of a different component but don’t let’s go into that now.

Some people’s experiences have proven to be great lessons for others. It’s not an easy task managing a marketing department because marketing is regarded as the engine of any organization. Rather than making mistakes and learning from them, the ideal option is to avoid these mistakes by learning from those who have walked the same path you are just threading and have been successful.

Below are the 7 lessons I have learned from different marketing managers that can prove to be helpful for successful businesses.

1) Take Your Eyes Off Competition

In the ideal business world, we’ve always been told to watch and monitor competitors closely to know what they are doing at every moment so we can always launch a counter-marketing campaigns when necessary, but one thing I have learnt from one of the marketing managers I have worked with is that “If you focus too much on your competition you will lose track of your business goal, so why not focus more on your customers and let your competitors focus on you” It is never a mistake to take your eyes off your competition and focus on the needs of your customers and how to satisfy them, competition will take car of itself, that is not to say you don’t know who they are.

2) Understand Your Audience

One of the important element of a successful marketing campaign is when you know your audience, who they are, where they are, what they want, and what they are doing, all these will form the basis of your whole marketing activities. You can’t be selling to “everybody” there is a target market when you know your audience and understand them, you’d know what offer and what messages you should communicate to them.

3) Make Your Customers Your Number One Priority

Any business that is customer-centric grows faster. When you make your customers the focal points of your business your marketing campaigns definitely be successful. One of the marketing professionals I met said to me “Tobi the customers decide if a company will grow or die” Every organization lives for its customers, no company can survive on its own. Always ensure your marketing campaigns and strategies addresses the need of your customers and not just your revenue goals.

4) Always Come Up With a Value Proposition

Never run out of ideas or what to offer your customers, just the same way human wants are insatiable, so also are your customers, they are always looking out for something new, an offer that would blow their mind. Constant research on the need of your clients will help you understand what you can offer them. “A marketing manager said “The day you run out of offers for your customers, that day you start losing their patronage”

5) Try and Stay Relevant In The Moment

In this modern time, we have so many impulse buyers who don’t really have so much time to waste in making a buying decision. An average consumer knows what he/she needs and has no tolerance for an encounter with a brand’s message that isn’t 100% relevant in the moment. A manager once said, “We’re living in the age of hyper real-time content marketing”.

6) Learn From Your Own Errors

It is true you will always make mistakes but it is better when you learn fast from your errors and quickly adjust to mitigate the effect of your errors. Commit to a continuous improvement philosophy in your marketing efforts. And commit to finding the lessons learned in the mistakes and failures and then taking action in the future based on the lessons learned.

7) In Marketing, There is No One Formula For Success

Unlike mathematics where one plus one is equal to two, the same is not applicable in marketing. Marketing has proven to be dynamic. One thing I have heard different marketing experts say over and over again is that, There is no one rule for success in marketing, you need to keep adjusting and strategising each day, because what works yesterday might become obsolete today, you need to be sensitive, creative and innovative, sensitive to the market needs, be innovative to address the need and be creative to retain your customers. Don’t always wait for what your competitor would do, become the thought leader in your industry.

Business / Top 6 Content Marketing Companies In Nigeria - SEO Perspective by tsticks(m): 5:39pm On Feb 10, 2016
Content marketing is often referred to as blogging while some people call it blogging, it is also called content marketing in the digital marketing parlance. Over time blogging has evolved in Nigeria and has become a real-time multi-million naira business. However, this can be attributed to general insinuations that blogging is a very profitable online business anyone could venture into. With no iota of doubt, we have seen some bloggers make good money online from just blogging.

Do you know there is a difference between blogging and content marketing? Yes, they are two different things, but sometimes we mix it up and use the terms interchangeably. The notion is that once you can write and post online you are also into content marketing irrespective of your value proposition and goal.

Content Marketing

According to content Marketing Institute

"Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action".

Well, you just said to yourself isn't the same thing blogging does?

Content marketing includes sharing of texts, images, videos, among others to attract an audience to perform an action. With this in mind, we can say blogging is only an aspect of content marketing. So basically, content marketing is the umbrella term under which blogging lies. As a result, there’s often a lot of overlap between the two. For many brands, blogging is an essential way to bring value to readers, which is why it’s considered a great starting point for any content marketing strategy.

It is in the light of this that we have selected top 6 content marketing companies in Nigeria based on their SEO strength and dexterity and also the type of traffic they generate.

Business / Story Of Olajumoke Orisanuga A Bread Hawker – The Brand Lesson by tsticks(m): 11:41am On Feb 08, 2016

In case you don’t know Olajumoke Orisanuga, she is bread hawker that “walked into her destiny” she was selling bread on the same street where TY Bello was having a photoshoot with Tinie Tempah for a ThisDay Style cover. One way or the other TY Bello captured her in one of the shots. When the photos were uploaded on social media channels people were asking questions about the bread seller in the picture if it was part of her creative concept or just incidental. then TY explained how the girl coincidentally walked into the scene and how they captured her.

The Brand Lesson

Olajumoke must have been hawking bread for a long time and probably passing on that same street at different times, same way some businesses have been operating for quite a while targeting the same audience over and over again with no significant sale and ROI. Many brands have been doing business the same old way just like the bread seller, they have refuse to explore other business opportunities and embrace change, they’d rather prefer to offer the same “Bread” products or services to the same audience.

Although what caught people’s attention in the picture they saw online was seeing a bread seller in a professional photoshoot. Your brand might have gotten so much popularity and patronage locally with a product or service you sell and your offering might appear to be the best but apparently you need more exposure, you might just be operating on a mediocre level.
If the lady had taken a random picture of her selling bread I am very sure it would not generate so much buzz on social media as it does now, but because it was done by a big brand in the photography industry it generated so much discussion, as a brand you need to partner with other brands that can give you that visibility and brand presence that your business needs to grow.
Olajumoke never knew she has a modelling potential until she came across someone in person of TY Bello who discovered it. Some business can apparently do more than what they are currently doing but they need a “TY Bello” to look into the brand and bring out the gold and diamond in it.

Everybody has a story so also does every brand, and sometimes the way your story is presented as a brand goes a long way in determining the success of the business, Olajumoke has always had a story as a bread hawker with inherent modelling potential but there was no one to help her interpret her dreams and make it become a reality, the same with so many brands out there with amazing stories that could magnify the business but no one to help tell their stories.

Feel free to comment your opinion and share

Jobs/Vacancies / Dealdey Layoff Staffs Again! Second Time In 6 Months by tsticks(m): 2:41pm On Feb 01, 2016
It is no doubt that the current economic condition is hitting so hard on so many organizations, virtually every sector of the economy is feeling the heat, around November last year DealDey – Nigerian daily deal website reportedly layoff about 60% of its staffs which was regarded as headcount reduction, obviously hundreds of staffs were affected but the company management didn’t specify how many of its staff were affected.

Just again on the 26th of January precisely Friday, Report got to us that DealDey just did another round of laying off its staff, this time like half of the workforce were again affected, leaving like one person in some unit, We tried to further investigate to be sure, We discovered It’s still a result of headcount reduction and financial constraints so the company can function optimally.

According to the report we got, the exercise was not the desire of the company but a necessary step they have to take in this present economic quagmire so the company can sustain itself, there have been questions going round if DealDey still has investors or not but I think that’s a question the management would answer.

We hope the company would release an official statement about it.

Career / Konga Lays Off 10% Of Its Staff by tsticks(m): 3:12pm On Jan 15, 2016
Nigerian ecommerce marketplace, Konga.com is laying off ten percent of its 800-strong workforce in what it is calling a restructuring exercise.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the layoffs will run across the whole organization. The company expects to reap operational efficiency and business effectiveness gains from the move.

In an emailed statement to TechCabal, a Konga representative said:

“With this restructuring and by taking advantage of new innovations and upcoming retail opportunities in the market space, we are optimistic that we are on the path to grow an even healthier and more sustainable business, whilst delivering best in class service to our customers. The decision to restructure and realign our company’s focus to be more agile in the prevailing local economic conditions is not one that was taken lightly”.

The company says it is offering severance packages to the 80 workers affected by the restructure, and will assist with connecting them to other opportunities that match their competences.

Since 2014, Konga has been steadily reinventing itself as a marketplace rather than the e-tailer it began life as in 2012. Which means that it is taking in less inventory and making use of less warehousing infrastructure while turning its attention to working more with merchants. It stands to reason that the ecommerce startup might require less in-house capacity than it currently has to efficiently run its operations.

Macro-economic and market dynamics are also at play as well. Rival ecommerce startup, Jumia, as well as Iroko, and DealDey, effected job cuts in late 2015, a move that we believe is a matter of them pragmatically correcting themselves before the markets correct them.

According to Crunchbase data, Konga has raised an aggregate of $74 million, but internally we believe the true number to be north of $100 million. Revenues grew 450 percent from 2013 to 2014. During its 2015 Yakata Sales, Konga’s CEO Sim Shagaya took to Twitter to announce that Konga processed about N110 million worth of orders in the first four hours.

TV/Movies / GOTV/DSTV Service Is Very Poor In Nigeria by tsticks(m): 11:49am On Dec 28, 2015
How would you rate Gotv service? One thing i have observed from this money-centric company is that they are just out there to exploit us. The only time their customer service agent will call you is when they want to tell you your subscription has expired. If you have any issues and tried to call them you might not have the opportunity to speak with any agent after waiting for so long on a not toll-free line. That aside, their network is also very horrible that you hardly enjoyed what you pay for, and mind you the same thing is applicable to DSTV the moment it's cloudy you lost signal.

Multichoice, please work on your services in Nigeria, let the millions you are raking from us be justifiable.

Health / Global Handwashing Day Holds Tomorrow – 15th Of October 2015 by tsticks(m): 3:43pm On Oct 14, 2015
Global Handwashing Day is a yearly global support day devoted to increasing the consciousness of people about the significance of handwashing with soap or cleanser as a very simple, successful, and reasonable approach to prevent any form of disease and equally save lives.

Celebrated every year on October 15, Global Handwashing Day was established by the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing, and is a chance to outline, test, and duplicate innovative approaches to urge individuals to wash their hands with soaps at basic times.

The theme for this year’s global handwashing day is Raise a Hand for Hygiene!

Global Handwashing Day is designed to:

-Foster and support a global and local culture of handwashing with soap
-Shine a spotlight on the state of handwashing around the world
-Raise awareness about the benefits of handwashing with soap

Do you know the Global Handwashing Day was first held in 2008? when more than 120 million youngsters around the globe washed their hands with cleanser and soaps in more than 70 nations. Since 2008, group and national pioneers have utilized Global Handwashing Day to get the message out about handwashing, construct sinks and tippy taps, and exhibit the effortlessness and estimation of clean hands. Every year, more than 200 million individuals are included in festivities in more than 100 nations around the globe. Worldwide Handwashing Day is supported by a wide cluster of governments, universal establishments, common society associations, NGOs, privately owned businesses, and people.

I believe this sensitization will also help the risk of transmitting the deadly ebola disease across the Africa and also help reduce transmission of other contagious disease

Let’s all join hands together tomorrow to support the global handwashing day!
Jobs/Vacancies / Could Nigeria Ever Adopt A Six-hour Working Day? by tsticks(m): 11:03am On Oct 06, 2015
There is one thing about Nigerians that is known across the globe, and the thing is we love to work. Nigerians work really hard that they hardly find time to relax and socialize, as matter of fact average Nigerian see socializing and going on a vacation as a foreign idea.

In 2014 hundreds of Swedish workers were trialling a six-hour working day in the hopes that it will cut sick leave and save the country money. The 6 hours working day was intended as an experiment to evaluate if staff members will take fewer sick days and feel better mentally and physically after they’ve worked shorter days.

I feel one thing that is lacking in Nigeria is that though people work really hard but they don’t work smart. An average working hours in Nigeria is 8am – 5pm which approx. 9 hours. I believe if employee is truly working 9 hours in a day organizations will grow faster than imagined. I still feel the 9 hours is not a realistic time for an employee to work effectively.

A research was carried out somewhere among employees, and in the survey it was discovered that employees doesn’t start work immediately they get to work and they also learnt that employees work efficiently from the hours of 9am – 3pm, from that time downward productivity start declining and many other things start setting in like tiredness and all. However because the employee has agreed 9 hours with employers they are forced to stay back at the office till the stipulated time.

Another thing that is common in some organizations in Nigeria is that employers encouraged spending over time at work in as much as it won’t cost them extra pay. The question is how are they encouraging employees? When employers tend to appreciate employee that stays back at work than the one that leaves immediately it’s time they are telling the later that you are not taking your job serious your colleagues spend extra hours. Spending extra hours at work doesn’t make one employee more effective it might even mean insolence and mediocre approach to job.

Because of our doggedness as Nigerians, we’ve been able to adapt to any system, but i ask myself Could Nigeria Ever Adopt A Six-Hour Working Day? Well i won’t say it is not possible but it’s not realistic because even if Nigerian employees are allowed 6 hours to work it’s not certain that they will take their time to relax, rather they can engage in other extra-curricula activities or personal business.

Jobs/Vacancies / Top 5 Skill Sets That Will Make You More Employable In Nigeria Oluwatobi Adekun by tsticks(m): 8:59am On Sep 16, 2015
Top 5 Skill Sets That Will Make You More Employable in Nigeria

Do you know being good at what you study alone is not enough to guarantee you employment or land you great pay cheque? Have you ever wondered why we have so many graduate in Nigeria with good grades but are still not employed, you might say it’s because there is no job out there, but do you know there are so many guys that change job like they change clothes and you keep wondering what they do differently that others are not doing.

You may even think that being great at what you do can ensure you not only keep your job, but move up in your workplace. The good news is that how well you do your job still remains one of the most important factors in your continued employment. The bad news is that it also may not be the only deciding factor, in this economic climate there are many people who can do your job as well or better than you, they may even be more connected and experienced, and may even be willing to work for less money. How can you compete?

It’s no secret that the job market is more competitive in Nigeria than ever before, and seems to be getting tougher all the time. Employers are hiring less, and slow economic growth is thought to be the future norm. In other words, when it comes to work, it’s a buyer’s market, and it’s getting harder and harder to sell yourself. Yet there are in-demand jobs and market sectors where employment has been – and is expected to continue – growing faster than the economy.

Whether you’re out of work, looking to switch offices, or move up the corporate ladder, there are some catch-all skills that can help in any industry. You may be surprised at just what can be the difference between success and stagnation, or even failure. Read on to learn what employers really want.

1. Ability to Speak Business Language

Most graduates these days only understands the parlance of their fields and forgets about the language in the business world, employers are no longer looking for people who read to pass they are looking for those who understands business community and atmosphere so get yourself acquainted with happenings in other industry.

2. Salesmanship Skills

Every organizations is set up to sell something, either a product or a service, as a graduate looking for employment your ability to sell yourself to employers in a creative and unique way will to a large extent determine if they will employ you or not. There isn’t a company in the world that doesn’t value the employee that makes them more money than they cost.

3. Learning Skill

What everyone really learns in university is how to learn, And it’s a good thing, because the biggest challenge in everyone’s career is adjusting to the changing business world and workplace. if you think you’ve only gone to study accounting or medicine then you’ve gotten it wrong already because life itself is dynamic. your ability to learn something new very fast will make you a hot cake in the market.

4. Tech & Social Media Skills

With level of technological development and increasing need for people who can write codes and do programming it would be a good idea to have relevant skills in this regard, because you might not know, your MD might need a media assistant and it is just these skills that will single you out.

5. Bi-Lingual or Multi-lingual Skill

What i have observed lately is that ability to speak more than one language is a very great advantage anyone can explore, whether local or foreign languages, you can work with embassies and international organizations with this and if you can speak different local languages you will be a good customer care agent, so it doesn’t matter if you have Bsc in micro biology or Zoology.

If there is any skill set that you feel should be listed here feel free to add it.
