Okocha would have been the greatest export from African soil but he wasn't serious with his game till late in his career. |
Sports › Re: Jay Jay Okocha - The World's Greatest Football Wizard (video) by tuffgongjo(m): 4:22pm On May 01, 2015 |
abatically: Okocha was a very talented and skillful player, one of the best the world has seen. But he was never taken too seriously because he himself didn't take football too seriously until his twilight years when he joined bolton. Imagine the disgrace of Oliver Khan and 4 defenders when he could have easily scored, he chose to dribble back and forth. Yes he eventually scored but that shows unseriouslness.
Jay jay in his prime chose to entertain than do something positive to help his team win. This is one of the reasons no big club came for him, and this is the reason he wasn't there among African greats like abedi pele, Samuel etoo, George weah, kanu nwankwo. Etc. You just said it all. |

ROSSIKE: So, midfielders I named who were playing for Real Madrid at the same time Jay Jay was at Boltion - Soldado, Nunez, Alex Perez. Are you saying any of these players was as good as Jay Jay Okocha? Even Beckham was bought by Madrid. Beckham cannot shine Okocha's shoes. Were Luis Garcia and Luis Enrique who played midfield for Barcelona as good as Okocha? See, when football intellectuals like us are are talking, kindly shut it. A NIGERIAN playmaker - arguably the most skilful player on earth in his prime - was simply NOT on the cards for the 'big clubs' of the period. Mikel? He was an attacking midfielder. They took him and turned him into a defensive midfielder, in order to ''use his strength'' as opposed to his skill. Brawn not brain. That's what they tend to want from African footballers - ''pace and power'', ''strength'', or to be the ''big man upfront''. Surely not the midfield maestro, the intelligence behind the team. A NIGERIAN at that? Hell no. They KNEW Jay Jay would make WPOY if he played at Barca or Madrid. They KNEW he would overshadow Raul, Xavi and iniesta in Spain. Not good for business. If Jay Jay Okocha was Dutch, Brazilian, English, French, Spanish or German, he would have been bought by the biggest clubs. And he would have had his chance to be WPOY. Do you know Talent only doesn't cut it in the game of soccer? |
Sports › Re: Jay Jay Okocha - The World's Greatest Football Wizard (video) by tuffgongjo(m): 4:12pm On May 01, 2015 |
ROSSIKE: 'Great potential' to be WHAT exactly? He TOOK his chance to shine when he was given it. It's not like he could FORCE Real Madrid or Barcelona to sign him, even though at the time they had many far lesser players in their ranks. What were Soldado, Nunez, Alex Perez etc doing at Real Madrid when JAY JAY was around? Those guys were not fit to shine Jay Jay's shoes, yet they were at Real Madrid and Jay Jay was at Bolton. Everyone who watched Okocha play, including TV commentators, ALWAYS wondered why he'd not been signed by those two clubs. Or AC Milan, Man Utd etc. Maybe they couldn't stomach a Nigerian being their MAIN player, As Jay Jay would have been on ANY team including Brazil.
Jay Jay Okocha was the man whom the great Brazilian legend, Mario Zagalo, who played alongside Pele, personally ran across the pitch, as Brazil coach, to shine Okocha's shoes, after the maestro's performance against the Samba boys in Abuja in 2003. He said Jay Jay must be a Brazilian, not a Nigerian!
So what are we talking about? Even Messi hasn't received that type of accolade from any of the world's greats. Okocha would have been greater than he is if he was not busy playing to the Gallery than being a serious footballer. He took football serious just too late. |

Ifeconwaba: Why a say this is because. This people have not tested the presidency of this nation since 1960 that nigeria got it independent. But the only chance the got to rule the only ruled for 5 years. And we know the circumstances that brought their son into office and after only one tenure the southwest and the north cornived and voted their son out of office. Claiming that he was incompetent to lead this nation. And now my question is so is it only the southwest and the north that has competent people to rule this country. And also it is this niger deltans people that owns the resources that powers this country (i conclude to say when will the niger deltans learn If you don't work on your punctuation, spelling, use of right words, dude the joke is on you. |
