Nigeria probing Biafra activist for 'terrorism': lawyer By AFP PUBLISHED: 13:53, 23 November 2015 | UPDATED: 13:53, 23 November 2015 An activist campaigning for a separate state of Biafra in southeast Nigeria is being investigated for "terrorism and terrorism financing", his lawyer said on Monday. Nnamdi Kanu, whose arrest last month has sparked a wave of protests, is already charged with criminal conspiracy and intimidation as well as membership of an illegal organisation. Kanu is the director of Radio Biafra, which the government has accused of being "seditious" and of broadcasting "hate speech", and a founder of the banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group. Pro-Biafran activists have renewed their claim for a separate state, arguing the southeast region has been neglected by a succession of federal governments s... +1 Pro-Biafran activists have renewed their claim for a separate state, arguing the southeast region has been neglected by a succession of federal governments since the end of the civil war ©Pius Utomi Ekpei (AFP/File) He was brought to a magistrates court in the capital on Monday following a ruling last week when Nigeria's secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), failed to produce him. But proceedings were adjourned until December 1 after the prosecution asked for the case to be tried in a higher court. Kanu's lawyer, Vincent Egechukwu, told reporters the DSS had secretly obtained an order at the Federal High Court on November 10 for his continued custody. The order enables the DSS "to detain (Kanu) in its custody for a period of 90 days pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation of terrorism and terrorism financing", he said. Kanu has denied the original charges and was previously granted conditional bail but the DSS refused to release him, arguing the conditions for his release had not been met. Kanu, who has emerged as the new figurehead for Biafran separatists, came to court dressed in a light-blue shirt with a white collar and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He was surrounded by dozens of armed security men but waved and smiled to well-wishers outside the court. Afterwards, he was whisked away in a security vehicle. Pro-Biafran activists have renewed their claim for a separate state, arguing the southeast region has been neglected by a succession of federal governments since the end of the civil war. The conflict from 1967 to 1970, which left some one million dead mainly from starvation and disease, was sparked when Biafran leaders unilaterally declared independence from Nigeria. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-3330445/Nigeria-probing-Biafra-activist-terrorism-lawyer.html |

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/nnamdi-kanu-radio-biafra-director-fails-appear-court-1529373 Nnamdi Kanu arrested Nnamdi Kanu is the director of London-based radio station Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob)Facebook Nigeria's State Security Service (DSS) has allegedly failed to produce Biafran leader Nnamadi Kanu in court for a hearing on 18 November, according to media outlets that support pro-Biafrans' ongoing calls for independence from Nigeria. Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) and director of London-based radio station Radio Biafra, was apprehended in Lagos in October and his arrest has prompted thousands of people to organise rallies in Nigeria and other states calling for his release. Join for Free & Enjoy the Benefits! › Advertisement The Nigerian government claims Kanu has been released on bail, however his lawyer Vincent Obetta confirmed to IBTimes UK that he was still being held by the DSS. The same allegations were made by members of a leading NGO in Abuja and an intelligence source, who both spoke to IBTimes UK on condition of anonymity as they had not been authorised to publicly comment on the issue. A statement from Biafra 24, a live onlline radio station claimed: " Nigeria's DSS has failed to produce Nnamdi Kanu, who is supposed to appear in court [Abuja's Magistrates Court] today. No reason whatsoever was given." More on Nnamdi Kanu Is Radio Biafra director free or still in detention? Ipob leader whereabouts unknown despite Nigeria security forces claiming he is on bail Is Radio Biafra director an Ipob legend or a 'fraudster'? Prosecution counsel Moses Idakwo informed the court that Kanu was not in court, according to the Cable an online newspaper, which added Kanu was standing trial after being charged with criminal conspiracy, intimidation and belonging to unlawful society. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Cable also said that Obetta and Gabriel Egbule argued in court over who was authorised to represent Kanu. The Magistrate Court has ordered the DSS to produce Kanu before it on 23 November. IBTimes UK has repeatedly tried to contact the DSS for a statement. A person who did not disclose his identity said he could not comment nor provide a number for the appropriate department to contact for a statement. The person then said "call this number tomorrow" and hung up. The DSS has continued to withold comments at the time of publishing. What are pro-Biafrans' demands? Pro-Biafrans are calling for the independence of territories that constituted the Biafran Republic, established in 1967 and re-annexed to Nigeria in 1970, following a civil war that claimed between one and three million lives. Supporters of the Biafra cause hold regular marches − which they call "evangelisations" − across several states in southern Nigeria, mainly inhabited by the Igbo ethnic group. Protests have intensified in the past few days in Nigeria and other states since Kanu was apprehended. Pro-Biafrans accuse the police of violence. However, police have denied these claims, arguing that people advocating for Biafra hold violent protests disrupting peace. Amnesty International said in an exclusive report by IBTimes UK that there was "credible evidence that pro-Biafran separatists in Nigeria are targeted by police". Meanwhile, the Nigerian government told IBTimes UK that it does not consider the separatist movement a threat to the current leadership and defined pro-Biafrans as an "insignificant number of frustrated people who are not a threat to the existence of Nigeria". Nigeria up close: Check out our Flipboard magazine Biafra's History After the end of British rule in 1960, Nigeria consisted of territories that were not part of the nation before colonisation, resulting in escalating tensions among the communities. People in the Eastern Region − a former federal division of Nigeria with capital Enugu − mainly from the Igbo tribe, wanted to secede due to ethnic, religious and economic inequalities with other tribes in Nigeria. The Eastern Region declared independence and proclaimed itself the Republic of Biafra following two coup d'etats in 1966 and 1967 led by late Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu. The fact that Nigeria's oil was located in the south of the country played a major role in the eruption of the war, during which medicine and food shortages in Biafra led to the deaths of millions of people. Biafra has been commonly divided into four main "tribes" − the Igbos, the Ibibio-Efiks, the Ijaws and the Ogojas. The modern-day states that make up Biafra from the eastern region and midwest are: Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Abia, Cross River, Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Ebonyi, southern part of Ondo State, Igbanke in Edo State and southern part of Benue State.

Clearly our Judiciary arm of government have been compromised by the Buhari regime. This was not the case under GEJ. Buhari is still a dictator. |
hmmm! |
Never again should Nigeria accept a President that spend more time campaigning in UK than in Nigeria. That person is a liability, our economy is on the verge of collapse from no1 position in Africa under GEJ to collapse under Buhari. Not a coincident. |
UK keep dropping hint on Biafra, my guess is they are behind it. It is an insurance thing against Buhari t make sure he deliver on their agreement.

BREAKING NEWS| How Buhari Smuggled Fugitive Omar Al-bashir Out Of India To Sudan by austentero: 11:44am President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir who has been declared a war criminal by the ICC for alleged genocide and war crimes during the Darfur war was smuggled from India to Sudan aboard the Nigerian Presidential Jet. It will be recalled that Omar al-Bashir attended the India-Africa Summit held in New Delhi India. India is not party to the Rome Statute that created the ICC, which is an independent international court, and New Delhi is not expected to oblige it by arresting Omar al-Bashir. After the summit, Omar al-Bashir was left with the dilemma of returning to Sudan and like a good brother, President Muhammadu Buhari offered to take him to Sudan aboard the Nigerian Presidential Jet. As reported by Vanguard , President Muhammadu Buhari made a “technical stop-over” in Sudan on October 31 on his way from New Delhi. Our source reliably informed us that the “technical stop-over” was to drop the Fugitive President Omar al-Bashir in Sudan. Nigeria deposited its instrument of ratification to the Rome Statute on 27 September 2001. The ICC therefore has jurisdiction over Rome Statute crimes committed on the territory of Nigeria or by its nationals from 1 July 2002 onwards. As it stands, Nigeria is party to the Rome Statute that created the ICC. The question now is : Why will President Muhammadu Buhari smuggle an International fugitive aboard the Nigerian presidential Jet knowing fully well that his actions contravenes the International Statutes that Nigeria is signatory to. http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/breaking-news-how-buhari-smuggled-fugitive-omar-al-bashir-out-of-india-to-sudan/
