MUST READ FOR ALL FUNKE AKINDELE"S FANS WORLD WIDE My mom only had one eye. I hated her… She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family. There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, ‘EEEE, your mom only , has one eye!’ I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, ‘ If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die?’ My mom did not respond… I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard, got a chance to go abroad to study. Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my Mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, ‘How dare you come to my house and scare my children!’ GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!’ And to this, my mother quietly answered, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,’ and she disappeared out of sight. One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have. ‘My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see……, when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. With all my love to you, Your mother.’ |

Two young boys stole a bag of oranges from the village market and to avoid being caught, decided to go to the nearest cemetery to share the loot. To enter the cemetery however, they had to scale over a tall fence. In the process of doing so, two oranges fell out of the bag and were left behind by the fence. As the boys settled for business, a farmer who was returning from his farm overheard the following statement being made over and over again as he passed by the cemetery fence: “One for me - One for you” Not knowing exactly what to make of what could be going on in the cemetery that late in the evening, he immediately ran as fast as he could to the local priest. “Father James, come with me and witness God and Satan sharing corpses at the cemetery,” he blurted out. The priest did his best to calm him down as they both hurried towards the cemetery. They both stood by the fence while the voices continued: ”One for me - One for you” Suddenly they heard one of the voices say “Let’s get the two outside the fence” (meaning the oranges that fell out of the bag while they were scaling the fence) Thinking that the voices were referring to them, the farmer and the priest ran as fast as their feet could carry them with the priest’s shoes left behind so they would not be a hindrance! |

It was supposed to be a simple mathematics class. Joe had volunteered to teach Ngozi the principles of calculus as the test day was fast approaching. However, as hours became days and days became weeks, they had moved from calculus to a little romance and then to deep kissing and finally sex. It was not supposed to go this far. Two leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State publicly exchanged blows at a supposed reconciliatory meeting yesterday. The meeting which had started on a good note degenerated into crisis when a former secretary to the state government, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke and the only PDP member representing Ese-Odo State Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Mr. Akpoebi Lubi threw decorum into the winds. The duo, who were both from Ese-Odo Local Government could not control themselves in front of the party leaders Trouble started when the convener of the parley, who is also the National Legal Adviser of the party, Chief Olusola Oke, asked Kekemeke to address the gathering. Lubi stood up and kicked against the decision of the convener to allow Kekemeke to address the crowd. The lawmaker had kicked against the reconciliatory move of the party, stating that the former SSG remained suspended. He insisted that Kekemeke, a lawyer, had no right to address the gathering because he allegedly worked against his interest during the April general election, which he won. The legislator’s gut infuriated Kekemeke, who immediately threw heavy punches at him. Lubi also retaliated with a dirty slap on Kekemeke and a serious fight ensued between the two PDP leaders. The development stalled the stakeholders’ forum which had in attendance; a former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, Ambassador Olu Agbi, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, Mr. Tokunbo Kayode (SAN) and Dr. Omotayo Dairo for about one hour. Lubi had constantly been drawing the attention of the party’s leadership to the resolution process in the last three weeks and had warned that the moves could not guarantee cohesion and the desired unity among members. His words: “It was wrong to allow those that publicly worked against the interest of the party at the last election to be at the forefront of the reconciliatory effort. This would not be in the interest of committed members of the party.” Just as the crisis was being resolved, members also kicked against the decision of the leaders to allow the former minister of defence, Adetokunbo Kayode, to address them. The members’ reaction was sequel to the role he allegedly played in the last general election against the party’s interest. Despite the pleas from the leaders of the party that they should allow him to express himself, they stood their ground and booed him until he sat down. The meeting was, however, reconvened and leaders like Agagu, Oke, Fasawe, Agbi, Dairo and Mrs. Oladunni Odu, among others urged members to shun any form of bitterness and support the current reconciliatory efforts to move the party forward. The forum also agreed to dissolve the state executive of the party, headed by Dairo and the interim caretaker committee, led by Agbi while a caretaker committee would be set up to lead the party until when the congress would be held. |
