Nigeria's First female Governor Good things are beginning to happen in our country, for the first time, a woman is the executive governor of a state in Nigeria and to think of it being no other than ANAMBRA STATE. I'm more into portraiture, I do portraits of my friends and family, but since I'm a medical student I rarely have time for art. The work below entitled remi-2 as you can see is unfinished, I still work on it when I have the time. There's also the abstract work I like to call it deceit, I just did that from my imagination a while ago. I think I'm an old school artist I prefer charcoal and pencil, you know I tend to see the world in black and white |

American, Briton seized from Nigeria oil ship Why must we continue to hear this kind of news in the Niger delta region, can't something be done to settle these disputes amicably? Excerpt from NBC news below LAGOS, Nigeria - A Briton and an American were kidnapped on Thursday from an oil prospecting ship off the coast of Nigeria’s southern state of Bayelsa, diplomatic and security sources said. It was the latest in a wave of kidnappings and violence against foreigners in the oil producing Niger Delta which has forced hundreds of workers to pull out of the region and reduced Nigerian oil output by 500,000 barrels a day. “Two expatriates, an American and a Briton, working for PGS have been kidnapped this morning on board MV Commander, one of the vessels at sea in Bayelsa,” a security source said, asking not to be named. |

Excerpt from NBC news below BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's High Tribunal on Sunday found Saddam Hussein guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to hang for the 1982 killing of 148 Shiites in the city of Dujail. The visibly shaken former leader shouted "God is great!" Saddam's half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, head of the former Revolutionary Court, were sentenced to join Saddam on the gallows for the Dujail killings after an unsuccessful assassination attempt during a Saddam visit to the city 35 miles north of Baghdad. The death sentences automatically go to a nine-judge appeals panel which has unlimited time to review the case. If the verdicts and sentences are upheld, the executions must be carried out within 30 days. Chief prosecutor Jaafar al-Moussawi told reporters that the Anfal trial now in progress for Saddam and others alleged role in gassing and killing Kurds would continue while the appeals process is underway. But if the appellate judges uphold the death sentence, the Anfal proceedings and other cases would be halted and Saddam hanged. Al-Moussawi said Saddam would be hanged if the sentence were upheld, despite his demand that he be shot by a firing squad. A court official told The Associated Press that the appeals process was likely to take three to four weeks once the formal paperwork was submitted. |
