Are Barcelona following Real Madrid's 2011 Ballon d'Or shun precedent? The FIFA awards gala on Monday night will not be attended by any Barcelona players after the club cited their upcoming match with Athletic Club as reason enoughto skip the event, but they're not the first club to do so. Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, and Andres Iniesta are among those named in the FIFPro Best XI and yet they have made a snap decision to stay away from Zurich, with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu joining board members at the ceremony instead. Such an act is not without precedent, however, with Real Madrid taking the same decision in 2011 due to travel commitments regarding an upcoming match with Malaga. Then, both Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Jose Mourinho were nominated for awards that they didn't win, just like Messi's Barcelona tonight. http://www.marca.com/en/football/real-madrid/2017/01/09/58738941468aeb86308b4575.html http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/real-madrid-also-snub-2011-ballan-dor.html?m=1

By Kenechukwu Ofomah People of Achina in Aguata Council Area have appealed to the State Government to prevail on the contractor handling the Achina-Oneh-Agbudu-Ogboji road to return to site to save the road from the threat of a major gully erosion. The 7.6 kilometer road which cuts across 5 major agrarian communities in the area, was flagged off earlier in the life of the present administration in line with its continuity stance and has had its first tranche of mobilization cost paid by the Obiano administration. However, a visit to the site reflected an abandoned project as there was no activity going on, with the drainage system covering about 2kilometer done initially almost lying on the road due to erosion. Economic activities along the road which also leads to the ongoing Peter University Project of the Catholic Diocese of Awka was also in skeletal form as households and shops were totally inaccessible due to an impending gully arising from improper termination of flood water into a nearby Ezekoro stream. For some residents along the road including Chief Godwin Mbachu and Mrs Celestina Ozugbo, if nothing is done urgently on the road before the next rain sets in, a major disaster may occur in the community as they do not have any other place to run to. The Vice-president of Achina Town Union, Mr Henry Ezeuñara who is also the APGA Legal Adviser,Aguata Council Area, noted that some homesteads have already been cut off from the rest of their families and have to go through Oneh, Ogboji, Aguluezechukwu, Ekwulobia, Nkpologwu and Akpo to reconnect with their people and noted that construction of the road will give APGA firm root in the affected communities. "For us as APGA people in this area, it is important that the government does this all important road. We have seen many developmental milestones recorded by the Obiano government and all we want is to have something tangible that we can show our people as evidence so that when the time comes for campaign, no one will be in doubt as to the commitment of this government to the people's welfare". The President General of the Town, Chief Chito Ezeani who expressed worry that the good gesture of Governor Willie Obiano in adopting the project is being cajoled by the contractor's inability to show seriousness towards the project and said when completed, the road will not only improve the face of infrastructure in the area but also give impetus to the Agric revolution initiative of the present administration by ensuring easy evacuation of farm produce from the agrarian communities. According to him, " That this road is accessible today is due to the community's self help efforts through the Town Union. Before the Christmas celebrations, I got the information that the contractor has been mobilized to site and I followed it up". He continued " when I realized that no work can take place due to the busy nature of the road, I begged the contractor to do palliative on the road which he agreed to do. But he never did that and the Town Union stood up to the challenge. All we ask is for the government to impress the need on the contractor to expedite work on this road before the next rain because if that doesn't happen, I am afraid it will be difficult for us ". Chief Ezeani further lauded the efforts of the Obiano administration in the area of grassroot development especially the 20 million naira choose-your-project initiative which the community has benefited from, and pointed out that the community is solidly behind him in his efforts to transform the state. Also speaking, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Godwin Obiora said if the present administration comes to their aid immediately and ensures the speedy completion of the road, it would have written its name in gold in the annals of the community's history. http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/achina-oneh-agbudu-ogboji-road-project.html?m=1 lalasticlala

Before the emergence of Dr Willie obiano as governor of Anambra state, armed banditory and kidnapping were the order of the day, in fact they were operating as they liked both at night and during the day. The story is different today because of the style and approach employed by the peoples governor, we now have a concretized security system in place and everyone is happy. Given the laudable gains of Willie is working in road construction, primary healthcare centers, agriculture and security, I do not see any reason ndi anambra should look anywhere else or even consider another party. We must support Dr Willie Obiano's progressive innovative style of governance for continuity come election day. Am sure ndi Anambra Dont wan no go in reverse because that's what happens when you suddenly change something you and I know s is working. Ndi Anambra, if something ain't broken why fix? Willie is working .....Onye Bogus http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/obiano-before-2017.html?m=1

That this year is another election year, for the governorship seat of Anambra state, is an open secret. This is because the Nigerian Constitution has made it compulsory for governors and Presidents in the country to serve for only four years in each of their terms of office in a tenure that must not exceed eight years. Although the incumbent governor of Anambra state, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, came into office on March 17, 2014, he was actually elected in November 2013. It therefore follows that the next governorship poll in the state will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the last quarters of 2017. As a matter of fact, INEC would in about four months to the election, officially lift ban on public campaigns by the political parties and candidates that would emerge from their primaries. Notwithstanding this, subtle campaigns have already commenced in earnest since last year. Again, irrespective of the fact that primaries must be conducted by the parties there are very strong indications that Governor Obiano would once again fly the flag of his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. He is legally entitled to go for a second term as the governor of the state. Other likely contestants in the other political parties have equally started showing their interests in the gubernatorial race. This conclusion is inferred from the public statements being made by them, and the body language of some of them. They would however subject themselves to the rigours of primaries of their various political parties. For obvious reasons, Obiano's success in the APGA governorship primaries is already a fait accompli or a foregone conclusion. For the gubernatorial election proper, the incumbent governor of the state, apart from the advantage of his paraphernalia of office, has other factors that has already placed him head and shoulders above his likely challengers. It is not in doubt that he is performing exceptionally well as the governor of the state. As a matter of fact, many political pundits say that Obiano is apparently the best political leader to ever govern Anambra state in her twenty five years history. With his security initiative considered the most efficacious in Nigeria today among the thirty six federating units in the country and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Anambra is evidently enjoying the safest and most secured environment. This has created a very conducive atmosphere for smooth implementation of his administration's four pillars of development namely; mechanized agriculture, trade and commerce, oil and gas in addition to industrialization. With the efficient security network in the state, the present Anambra state government is seamlessly implementing its other eleven enablers of socio-economic growth and development to the delight of the masses. Today, the state has truly become Nigeria's first choice investment destination and a hub for industrialization and commercial activities as defined in the vision and mission statements of the present state government under the watch of Governor Obiano. The honour, integrity and dignity of Ndi Anambra, which hitherto took a flight as a result of a long period of maladministration, have graciously been restored. The Obiano government has given true meaning to the concept of AKU LUE UNO. Many Anambra born entrepreneurs are currently bringing their investments to the state. Over four hundred living and dead distinguished citizens of the state, irrespective of their diverse political affiliations and religious or denominational inclinations were last December given merit awards by the present administration at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia. They out in their numbers to be honoured without fear of being harassed, robbed and kidnapped in any part of the state, as was rampantly the case before Governor Obiano took over the mantle of leadership. Again, Ndi Anambra savoured the most blissful Christmas and New year recently. They drove on smooth roads and moved around at night on illuminated streets in our cities and some major routes in the state. This is truly unprecedented in the chequered history of our beloved state. There is therefore no doubt that the pride and confidence of Ndi Anambra and their state have been effectively restored among the comity of states in Nigeria and beyond. Undoubtedly, the governor's achievements in the past two and half years or thereabout are both visible and tangible for the Anambra electorate to see and feel. Obiano has also demonstrated that he is a man of good and noble intentions who wants the best for his state. It is pertinent to note that the good people of the state do not also suffer from collective amnesia, to the extent of not remembering the atrocities committed in the recent past by certain unscrupulous elements, who belong to other political parties in the state. They still remember the opprobrium and anarchy their state was plunged into before APGA took charge of the affairs of the state since March 17, 2006, after about three years legal battle to reclaim its mandate stolen in the April 2003 governorship election. The people know that their incumbent governor is genuinely determined and committed to taking Anambra state to a higher pedestal. Ndi Anambra are equally afraid of being compelled again to experience bad governance, political crises and instability they were made to suffer between May 29, 1999 and March 17, 2006. For these reasons, they have no better alternative to Governor Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the 2017 gubernatorial election in the state. Forward ever, backward never. EGBUNA AMUTA SA TO THE GOVERNOR ON MEDIA for GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION Sunday, January 1, 2017. http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/2017-anambra-guber-poll-there-is-no.html?m=1 lalasticlala

ANAMBRA 2017: 30,000 YOUTH THROW WEIGHT BEHIND OBIANO'S REELECTION BID BY Kingsley Ezekwelu It was indeed another day of pomp, pageantry and visible genuine expression of love, support, solidarity and confidence, for outstanding performance of an icon, administrator per excellence, great manager of human/material resources, humane, astute, compassionate and the most selfless leader of contemporary Anambra state- Chief Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike Global) by the United Anambra Youths Assembly. Youths numbering over 30,000 from all parts of the state, under the auspices of United Anambra Youths Assembly, U-AYA, Ebelechukwu Obiano Ladies Movement and other affiliate organisations had last week converged on Awka, the state capital to express their open support and loudly their endorsement of Gov Willie Obiano for a second term in office. The endorsement came at the first-of-its-kind mega-rally held at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. The venue was filled to capacity as the Youths drawn from the 21council areas of the state spoke with one voice, spoke without push. They spoke with love and conviction in solidarity with the governor. A clearly impressed Gov Obiano who beamed with smiles all over, on arrival at the venue was warmly welcomed with solidarity songs and deafening sounds of vuvuzela trumpets. He was installed the life grand patron of U-AYA. While delivering his address to the mammoth crowd, the Governor said Youths constitute key stakeholders in the development of the state, hence the priority attention they are getting from his administration. He revealed that in the less than three years his administration had lasted, it has created activities across various sectors of the State economy that have generated ample job opportunities for the youths and assured that under his watch, youths development would remain in first line charge. Thanking the Youths for their support and endorsement, Gov Obiano urged them to embark on door to door campaign to ensure that APGA records massive victory in the coming 2017 governorship elections. The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye in his remarks said Gov Obiano has through his transformational initiatives, placed Anambra on a steady course of growth and development adding that the numerous endorsements he has been getting was a testament to this. In his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe said the Mega Rally was to make a bold statement that Youths in the state were solidly behind Gov Obiano in view of the laudable Youths-oriented programmes and policies of his administration. He noted that for the first time, youths were being actively involved in governance and decision making apparatii of the state. Earlier while welcoming guests, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr George Udedibia pointed out that the era of youths involvement in violence and crimes was over in the state because of the present administration's deliberate efforts at creating jobs and other meaningful engagement ventures for them. All branches and chapters of U-AYA from the 21 Council areas and masquerade performances also added grace to the gathering . http://www.thenationslight.com/2017/01/anambra-2017-30000-youth-throw-support.html?m=1 lalasticlala
