Armed Forces Day : Anambra joins in celebration

......Commemorates past heros

By John Ndu

Anambra State today joined the country for the 2017 Wreath Laying and Parade ceremonies to mark the end of 2017 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration.
The event which took place at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka witnessed Parade formation by Nigerian Army, Navy and Nigeria Legion and was earlier inspected by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.
Present at the event were the State heads of security agencies, including the Army, Navy, Police, Federal Road safety Corps, Civil Defence among others.
Others were government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industries, to mention a few.
Describing the event, Governor Obiano said the day was significantly set aside to remember and honour the sacrifices rendered by the Nigerian Armed Forces, in which some lost their lives in discharge of their duties.

Governor Obiano noted that the Armed Forces had made the nation proud in their recent effort to arrest insecurity and other insurgence in the country.

The Governor stressed the need to adequately cater for the welfare of security agencies, adding that the state government would always promote their interest by giving them a pride of place due to their relentless commitment in safeguarding the state.

He maintained that the present peace and security in the state were as a result of their doggedness and sleepless nights in ensuring safety of Anambra people, promising that the state would continue to sustain her present security situation in the country.

While thanking God for the success of last yuletide season, Governor Obiano disclosed that his administration would ensure the state lives above economic recession, saying 2017 would be a bountiful year for the state, as tremendous amount of economic growth would be recorded, aimed towards giving the state a capital facelift.

The highlights of the event were laying of wreath , firing of 21 gun salute, and release of pigeons in honor of the past heros.

It seems you are the one with visual impairment oo, did you even read the article you posted at all. The article you posted clearly stated that a playground has been transformed into a world class stadium in 12 months. And I asked if that was a stadium or a training pitch. Atleast thanks to Akpabio, we know what a "world-class stadium" looks like. So I don't know what your problem is, or maybe you just enjoy insulting people online.
If you can see well you will see the stadium is still under construction and was approved for matches so comparing it with Uyo stadium makes no sense, one is individual efforts the other is government. Why not wait for the completion before asking questions

PoliticsPolitical Defection; Gov Obiano Has No Intention by Ucheosefoh(op): 10:02pm On Jan 13, 2017
Gov Obiano Remains National Leader of APGA, No Intention of Defecting to any other Party.

Unlike many other unsteady characters in our political terrain, Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra State has remained consistent in his resolve to change the fortunes of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

His tenure as the National Leader has seen the party spread to Bayelsa, Taraba, Abia and other states as well as the Federal Capital Territory, a feat he achieved in less than 2 years.

While we commemorated the passing of our fallen Heroes and Heroines through Ozoemezina anniversary yesterday, a few paid agents whose stock in trade is to dish out lies against the governor and government of Anambra State, took the opportunity to spread all forms of lies.

They claimed that our hardworking governor had gone to London to open a new home and that he plans to join another party.

These claims are nothing but a planned agenda by the enemies of the State to confuse the gullible public. The claims are false!

It's becoming clearer to every Onye Anambra that the only thing the opposition can offer is attack on the person and office of the governor of our dear State. They lack clear cut plan of how they can better the future of ndi Anambra.

Recall that these paid "attack dogs" have in their futile attempts to blackmail the governor insulted our revered clergy including the Bishops; our respected traditional rulers and cherished statesmen.

They attack anyone that stands for the truth and shows support for the willingly working Willie. Thus, their attacks aren't new and as such they need are prayers.

While we pray that God saves the souls of these misguided ethugs, I want to assure us that Gov Obiano remains a member of APGA and has no intention of leaving the party.

Also, governor Obiano did not acquire any house in London neither did he travel to the United Kingdom to commission any home.

As a people, our collective interest is best protected in APGA.

With governor Obiano, we're Moving Forward.

HealthMiral Pharmaceuticals Unveils Plan To Stop Malaria by Ucheosefoh(op): 9:55pm On Jan 13, 2017
IT'S HIGH TIME WE BECAME YOUR BRAND AMBASSADOR............... AISHA EDWARDS

By Augustus Bill

On Wednesday 11, 2017 Miral Pharm Limited, a drug manufacturing company in Lagos organized a press conference at Unizik School of Pharmacy Agulu in view of introducing her new anti-malaria drug Ravimal, which is described as a perfect stop for malaria.

Professor Uzochukwu Ikemefuna of the Unizik School of Pharmacy spoke on the state of Malaria Research in Unizik, a strong attempt, which he described is yielding a lot of fruits and would in no time proffer lasting solutions to the menace of Malaria in Nigeria and beyond. He applauded Miral Pharm Limited for deeming it wise to introduce and sponsor an Essay communication for undergraduates towards finding a solution to end malaria. Ikemefuna said the call for essays by the company is in the right direction and at the right time.

The theme of the conference, which was on Ending Malaria for Good, created an ample opportunity for the pharmaceutical company to highlight her inroads in eradicating Malaria in Africa. The Director of the company Dr. Onyeka Onyeibor emphasised on the role her company is playing as a leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, and assured that with their new anti-malaria drug the company is geared to put a long stop to malaria across Africa. He also explained that the company’s initiative to introduce an essay competition was to allow undergraduates take part in the research being carried out on Malaria.

Speaking during the event, Aisha Edward, the leader of APLSCD, a sickle cell group applauded thee company’s initiative and efforts in combating malaria, which she said is one of the undermining situations associated with their disorder. She however, urged the pharmaceutical company to always consider sickle cell victims as perfect brand ambassadors for their brand, as it would be entirely fair to have them as ambassadors, since their disorder has made them the highest consumer of the pharmaceutical products, and making them ambassadors would be a way of showing appreciation for their patronage over the years.

Aisha further called on relevant authorities present at the conference to support her association’s initiative for a campaign rally and seminar on drug abuse and Self-medication at Nnewi on February 24, 2017. She explained that the rally would go a long way in curbing the incessant cases of drug abuse and self-medication in the state and beyond.

In their separate speeches, Prof Stella Okunna, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences Unizik, and Prof Modebe of Unizik Teaching Hospital Nnewi, applauded the efforts of the pharmaceutical company, and also commended the gallant strides of Aisha Edward who has taken the fight of sickle cell to a whole new pragmatic level. They, however, urged people to cue into the wave Making sensitization and advocacy.

Dignitaries at the conference were UNIZIK Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Carol Arinze Umeobi, Dr. Onyeka Onyeibor of Miral Pharm Limited, Professor Uzochukwu Ikemefuna of the Unizik School of Pharmacy, Prof Stella Okunna, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Unizik, Prof. Modebe of Public Health Department Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Chinwe Uzochukwu of the department of Mass Communication, Unizik and many other big wigs in the academic field.

Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium is ready to host Africa!

Our vision to build the best privately-owned football stadium in Africa is finally a reality as we prepare in earnest to host Africa in this season's CAF Confederation Cup competitiom. It is all about what one sees. The power of vision is one that cannot be blighted by inertia once it is anchored on human advancement.

What started as a mere dream has today been actualized. We are very proud and thankful to Almighty God for the mileage we have attained. What once existed in the mind has been translated from its theoretical state to a structure that would impact positively to humanity. By the grace of God, we have been able to transform what could once be referred to as a "playground" into a world class stadium in less than 12 months.

Today, we are strategically positioned and poised to take on Africa. In just under two years, we have been able to reach enviable heights, winning two trophies in as many years of our existence, an unprecedented feat. Our first hurdle, Al Masry of Egypt would be visiting in a few weeks time and we are set to welcome them to Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Nnewi, Anambra State. We are positive and quietly confident in our ability to make Nigeria proud by putting up a successful outing at the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup competiton.

I also wish to specially congratulate FC Ifeanyi Ubah's coaching crew led by Coach Yaw Preko for a well deserved victory at the 2017 NFF Charity Cup, a feat that has made us Champion of Champions. This trophy is a new year gift to our teeming fans for their unflinching support and a reminder to the football world that we are set to conquer Nigeria and Africa.

Not many are aware of Yaw Preko's input towards the solidity and fluidity of the team so far and as such, I wish to use this medium to thank him for his contribution so far. Permit me to reiterate my staunch belief in Preko's ability and capacity to lead FC Ifeanyi Ubah on a quest to sucessfully conquer Africa. In view of this, I wish to publicly pass a vote of confidence on Coach Yaw Preko while I pledge to provide him with all the necessary support he needs.

To our teeming fans, get ready to ride through thick and thin with us as we embark on this journey together to conquer Africa.

Anyi bu ndi mmeri!

Thank you and God bless.
