Look for another female dog that is on her heat and keep them together for about a week or more and she should be close by during the mating.. It will come in about 2 - 3 weeks or less..

Since am trying my very best to make sure she takes in and have a safe delivery, I had to take some precautions before the mating commenced..
When I noticed she can come on heat i took some steps to ensure she is in good health and shape..
First i dewormed her with a broad spectrum dewormer which kills all types of worms that affect dogs, cause there are some dewormer tablets that don't take care of all worms, so ensure to ask for a broad spectrum dewormer when purchasing on next time..
Secondly I administered dhlpp vaccine to lay-la to help boost her immune system against a couple of diseases that may occur and I believe it will also help the puppies immune system to fight against parvo virus..
Thirdly I placed her on a 7 days antibiotics to reed her system of any unknown infection that is not visible to the eyes, like infected mammary gland [ breast ]. Puppies have been know to die from sucking any infected breast milk which leads to there death in a few days or even hours..
Fourth.. I got her vetzym multivitamins to keep her energy levels good and reduce the toll pregnancy takes on her..

So that's all I did before the mating begun..

The fact that the dog is from imported parents doesn't make the dog a pedigreed dog. The parents may be from pedigreed dogs but may not also have been pedigreed before they came in. There is a difference between the word pedigree and the other which is "pedigreed".

I ain't trying to bad mouth your dog bro, but there is a misconception in Nigeria about a dog being from Pedigree parents and the dog him/herself been pedigreed. If a dog is imported as a puppy, there is a 85% chance the dog has not been pedigreed but is from pedigreed parents i.e, the parents have been registered in their Country's Kennel Club or breed club but the dog itself is just relying on the pedigree documents of his or her parents (this is because the puppy left that country before the age of being registered and entered into the database) but he or she doesn't have his or her own stand alone documentation. Pedigreed dogs are not supposed to rely on any other dog's documentation but are to stand on their own documentation.

If Layla is a pedigreed dog, can I have her registration number so I can look her up in any database in the world?.....I'm very sure she doesn't have one. If the parents have been pedigreed before they came in, you can also forward their registration numbers so as to verify your claim. I ask because i want you to understand what i mean.

So many folks out there been claiming their dogs are Pedigreed dogs in a country with no Kennel Club. It is funny isn't it. Very sure the dogs are pure bred but they have not yet been pedigreed.

And also the male can tell when she is ready for breeding, that is why they sniff and lick the females vulva.. Most times the males wouldn't be interested if the female is still bleeding.. That is why we wait till day 9,some breeders wait till 11 days.. So maybe you can try now again am sure she should be ready to breed and your male would know.. Call it animal instinct..

From the info I got from the doctor I purchased her from he said her last litter was November last year and since then she hasn't come on heat, so I did a little research online and found out that bringing another female who is on her heat close to lay-la would trigger her hormones to start her heat.. Over time a female was brought for crossing and I kept them in the same cage for over a week and made sure she watched the whole mating process.. Few days after I took the other female back to its owner lay-la started bleeding.... But will not be receptive or allow track to mount her not until the bleeding stopped and her vulva turned pink and really swollen..
Your female gsd is probably not ready to mate or she needs to be helped during the process of mating..

Fine looking pup.. U got pictures of the crossing..? Gotta see them parents.. It's important to have an idea what the pup will look like in the future..

Lay-la's heat started about 9 days ago and today which is the tenth day of her heat she finally became receptive for track to mount her.. Today is 12th August 2018.. And they mated for the first time.. The next mating would be on the 14th August and not tomorrow, cause it takes approximately 24 hrs for the sperm to get to the egg or eggs..
And it will take about 63 - 67 days for lay-la to litter.. Here are a few pictures from today's mating..

Both dogs were not born and raised here in Benin, they were born and raised in zaria by a vet doctor who actually knows what he is doing and has been in the biz for more than 15 years..
Track was purchased some time last year and lay-la came to use few months ago.. They are about the same age [ track is a bit older tho] he is 3yrs and a couple of months.. So that's it for background.. And o hence I forgot [ lay-la is pedigree] both parents where imported into the country but track background is rooted in the country, never the less track is a very good Rottweiler..
