Travel / Lord’s Chosen Church Bus Crashes Into Coca-Cola Depot In Imo, 5 Dead by UDOKABESTLUV(m): 3:36pm On Apr 19
At least five persons have reportedly died in an accident involving a Coaster bus of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Renewal Movement and a tipper truck in Imo State.

The incident occurred on Friday morning, causing gridlock on the busy Owerri-Onitsha Road.

The bus and the tipper truck which were coming from the same direction hit each other and crashed into a Coca-Cola shop at Orogwe in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to journalists at the scene said five persons died instantly and were evacuated by an ambulance to a nearby hospital.

They said some other people were still stuck beneath the bus.

One of the eyewitnesses, however, said three workers at the depot were among the deceased.

The eyewitness said, The accident is between a long coaster bus carrying members of the Lord’s Chosen, and a tipper. The two vehicles were coming from Onitsha to Owerri but the coaster bus, in an effort to overtake the tipper, now hit it by the side and immediately lost control.

“The driver tried to control the steering but it ran into a Coca-Cola depot where over ten of its staff members were knocked down by the vehicle.

When people gathered and started pulling victims out from the car, we discovered that three of the Coca-Cola staff members died on the spot. Others were badly injured.

“The tipper driver and his conductor also died
. The conductor was forcefully pulled out of the back of the tipper and the moving tipper climbed on him. The driver also hit his chest on the steering and bled to death. It was a horrible accident.”

A resident of Orogwe community who spoke on condition of anonymity said none of the Lord’s Chosen members died, but some sustained varying degrees of injury.

“It was actually the Lord’s Chosen’s driver’s fault. He wanted to overtake the tipper without considering the narrowness of the road. As I speak, so many people are still stacked under the Lord’s Chosen’s vehicle.

“We have tried to pull the vehicle out to no avail. We have used a heavy-duty vehicle to pull it out to see if there are some people under it, no way.”

Efforts to speak with personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who were at the scene of the incident proved abortive as they declined to speak on the issue.

Nigerian Activist, Kelvin Ejumudu, who confirmed the incident in a post on Monday, April 8, 2024, said the who child was rescued, is currently in police custody and will be handed over to the State Government.

A months old cute baby boy was abandoned in Osubi community Okpe local Government area of Delta state. An aged woman saw the baby and raised alarm. Thanks to the DPO Orerokpe Division CSP Paul Oboware for his swift response to rescue the baby. The baby is with the police and will be handed over to the Delta state welfare for care. It’s worrisome what could have lead to this scenario where one will abandon a child not thinking about the safety and the welfare of the child. He’s such a cute boy.

Crime / Commercial Motorcyclist Nabbed For Killing Wife’s Friend In Ondo by UDOKABESTLUV(m): 4:52am On Apr 06
A 35-Year-Old Commercial Motorcyclist has been apprehended by police operatives in Ondo State for the alleged murder of his wife’s friend.

The Suspect, Identified As James Sunday, had on March 13, 2024, at No. 47, Ijoka Road, Akure, the state capital, allegedly strangulated the deceased, identified as Justinah, with a rope.

According to some residents of the area, the 42-Year-Old Victim had a dispute with the suspect a few months ago over the diversion of her cow meat, valued at N250,000.

Following his arrest, James was subsequently arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of murder.

The police prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, informed the court that the crime contravenes sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Oniyere urged the court to remand the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

The defendant, who denied the allegation, told the court that he had known the deceased for over nine to 10 years in Ile-Oluji town.

He told the court that he met his wife through the deceased, claiming that he had not come in contact with Justinah since they moved to Ondo.

On his part, the defence counsel, Falana, prayed for a date to enable him to file a reply to the remand application.

With the defendant’s plea not being taken, Chief Magistrate T. O. Olusola-Olujobi ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody and adjourned the case till April 18, 2024, for a ruling.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 17-Year-Old Girl Simply Identified As Wumi for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, 54, to death.

The Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

According to the PPRO, the incident happened at the Oda, Akure residence of the deceased, last Wednesday.

The deceased’s family claimed the suspect was suffering from mental illness but the command had not got the medical report to affirm the claim.

“The suspect is in our custody and we have started an investigation into the matter but the family told us that the suspect had a mental health issue,” Odunlami stated.

“So, we are waiting for the medical report to ascertain that. The deceased is a foster mother of the suspect, she had been taking care of her since her childhood.”

It was gathered that the decomposing body of the deceased, who was said to be working at the Ondo State Ministry of Finance, was found at her residence last Sunday, three days after she was killed.

A neighbour of the deceased said she was stabbed in her belly area, and the doors were shut against her to prevent her from getting any help.

The Remains of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of a hospital in Akure.
