A crude oil delivery line belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company crossing Afiesere- Iwhrenene communities in Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State has been blown up by suspected militants.

A militant group, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred at about 1am on Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the militant group, Aldo Agbalaja, confirmed the development in a statement sent to our correspondent.

The group, which is simply called Greenland, threatened further attacks while disclosing that Tuesday’s attack was carried out as part of ‘Operation Crocodile Tears’, a planned series of attacks on oil facilities, which it declared earlier.

It said, “As a mark of our faith to totally grounding the Nigerian oil economy, the gallant “Opudo” strike forces brought down the Afiesere- Iwhrenene major delivery line in Ughelli North, leading to the UPS/UQCC operated by NPDC/SHORELINES at about 1am today 13th september 2016.

“The Niger Delta is not a conquered territory and our people have never succumbed to intimidation before, rather we match force with the oppressor’s brutality.

“The Nigerian government should already know that the people of this part are not fools, who will not be able to see when they are being treated with disdain.”

The militant group reiterated its call to those living and working around oil companies within the upland region of the Niger Delta to vacate such premises to avoid being injured during attacks.

Warning that it was running out of patience with such people, the group said, “For the last time, leave these areas if you live around them and if you love your lives.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has said that the protests by the #BringBackOurGirls coalition constitute a security threat to public peace and order.

The Chibok girls’ campaigners, he said, must understand that in the exercise of their rights, they must not trample on other peoples’ rights through “over-dramatisation of emotions, self-serving propaganda and disrespect of public (office) holders.”

Idris said this on Wednesday when the National President of the National Council of Women Societies, Gloria Shoda, and other executives members visited him at the Force headquarters, Abuja.

The IG sympathised with the parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, noting that the government had invested huge resources to ensure that they were rescued and re-united with their families.

He said, “However, the activities of the BringBackOurGirls group in Abuja, the nation’s capital recently, is becoming worrisome and a threat to public peace and order.

“The #BringBackOurGirls protagonists must understand that in the exercise of their rights, they must not trample on other peoples’ rights through over-dramatisation of emotions, self-serving propaganda and disrespect of public (office) holders.

“The police will not sit on the fence and watch such a scenario unfold. The rights of law-abiding citizens must be protected within the context of the law. Enough is enough. We however ask that they tread with caution and that their grievances be channeled within the ambit of the law.”

But the BBOG in its reaction, denied being unruly or constituting a public nuisance during its street protests.

Its spokesman, Abdulahi Abubakar, said the BBOG had the constitutional right to protest, stressing that the coalition would continue to press home its demand for the release of the girls through various legitimate means, including street protests.

Speaking earlier, the NCWS President, commended the police for maintaining security in the Federal Capital Territory in spite of the protests by the BBOG.

How can somebody be diligent in the discharge of his/her duties when after 30 days of hard work, salary is not paid?

How can you be at work early when you cannot transport yourself to work?

Change really begin with Buhari because you have left Daura to Aso rock and things have really changed for good for you but for us, it is from frying pan to fire.

Don't you worry, it is a matter of time at worst you will have us to contend with come 2019.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that before Nigerians demand to see the changes he promised them during the 2015 election, they must first change their own attitude by shunning corruption and other social vices.

He adds that change is not about economic or social progress, but it is in terms of citizens’ personal behaviour.

Buhari said this while delivering a speech at the inauguration of the national re-orientation campaign tagged, ‘Change Begins With Me’ in Abuja on Thursday.

The President acknowledged that Nigeria is currently passing through a challenging period where hardly anything works normally.

He lamented that honesty, hard work and godliness had given way to all kinds of manifestations of lawlessness and degeneration in our national life.

Buhari said, “Our citizens must realise that the change they want to see begins with them, and that personal and social reforms are not a theoretic exercise. If you have not seen the change in you, you cannot see it in others or even the larger society.

“In other words, before you ask ‘Where is the change they promised us?’, you must first ask, ‘How far have I changed my ways? What have I done to be part of the change for the greater good of society?’

The President said his government had done well in the fight against corruption, adding that the fresh campaign was a way of getting Nigerians to join in the struggle.

He added, “The campaign we are about to launch today is all about the need for us to see change, not merely in terms of our economic, social progress but in terms of our personal behaviour on how we conduct ourselves, engage our neighbours, friends and generally how we relate with the larger society in a positive and definitive way and manner that promotes our common good and common destiny, change at home, change in work place, change at traffic junction, change at traffic lights, etc.”

He said the value system of the nation had been eroded and that was why students would prefer to embrace cultism rather than face their studies. He said it was for the same reason youths were vandalising oil pipelines thus robbing the nation of much-needed resources.

Buhari said the disintegration of social values encouraged impunity and corruption in the public sector which ultimately led to the current economic recession.
