The Chinese Water Melon festival was started in 1988 with the aid of sponsorship from "The Daxing District Government". Since its inception over the last two and a half decades, the festival has created new cultural images, gathered people and promoted business opportunities around Daxing city. The slogan of the festival is,

“creating image through cultural events, gather people by love, exhibition to promote the business opportunities.”

The annual watermelon festival has many unique and new activities every year. These special activities, such as cultural and creative activities, west muskmelon contest, literary activities, attracts a lot of Chinese and foreign tourists.

Former Nigerian minister of information and communication, and one time NAFDAC Director General,Late "Dr Dora Nkem Akunyili" continues to shine on even in death!

Dubbed the "Iron Lady" by her well wishers due to her relentless efforts in curbing the menace posed by the sale of sub-standard and counterfeit drugs in Nigeria.
The late Dr Akunyili won so many awards too numerous to mention both at home and in Diaspora. Barely 2 years after her demise on the 7th June 2014 (aged 59) her family discovered over 110 more awards, neatly packed inside a box in her safe room.

One of her son's "Louis" wrote this on his Facebook page earlier today;

"Almost 2years after her burial daddy (Dr. Chike Akunyili) discovered another 2 big boxes of awards in Dora's inner bed room.I have just counted it and its 110 in number.jeez..... i have come to hang them like i did the other 820... "

Even in Death, her Good deeds will never be forgotten!!!!!!

President Paul Biya of Cameroon has offered to donate a laptop each to over 500,000 students of higher learning institutions in his country when the 2016/2017 academic year opens in October.


According to Minister of Education "Jacques Fame Ndongo" who made the announcement, 'A deal worth $126 million (75 Billion FCFA) was signed with a Chinese firm on Wednesday in Yaoundé to seal the agreement.
President Biya also authorised the Economy, Planning and Regional Development minister to sign the funding agreement for project with the EXIM bank of China.

The presidential gift is part of a plan dubbed E-National Higher Education Network, aimed at driving Cameroon into a digital economy and prescribes each university student be entitled to a computer. However, conditions for the entitlement have not yet been made public.

Captain of the German national football team "Die Mannschaft", Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced his retirement from international football.
The 31year old Manchester United midfielder was part of the squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where he served as assistant captain to Philip Lahm.

Schweinsteiger retires as Germany’s fourth most-capped player of all time on 120 , behind Lothar Matthaus (150), Miroslav Klose (137) and Lukas Podolski (129). This decision comes a few weeks after his marriage to tennis star, Ana Ivanovic. In a post across his social media profile, he said;

“I have recently asked the coach not to select me for the national team games anymore because I would like to retire,” he stated.
“I was allowed to collect 120 caps for my country and I lived some moments which have been indescribably beautiful and successful.
“Joachimi Loew knew how much Euro 2016 in France meant to me because I really wanted to win that title we have not been able to win since 1996.
“It was not meant to be, I have to accept that.
“By winning the World Cup in 2014 we achieved something on a historic and emotional level that I cannot reproduce in my career.
“That’s why it is right and reasonable to finish it and to wish the team all the best for the qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
“With this decision I leave the national team that has always been a precious family for me. I hope that the connection will still remain strong in one way or the other.”

Schweinsteiger,wore represented the German National Team from 2003-2016 made 120 appearances and scored 24 goals in the process. The midfielder who started his career as a Winger, won the World Cup in 2014 and also won a silver medal in Euro 2008 and a 3rd Place finish at The 2006 World Cup which was hosted by Germany.

"FARTING" during a match with the referee
accusing him of “ deliberate provocation” and
“ unsportsmanlike behavior ”.
Adam Lindin Ljungkvist was playing in match
between Järna SK’s reserve team and
Pershagen SK and received a second yellow
card for what has been described as “ bizarre
circumstances ” by local sports tabloid"
Länstidningen Södertälje ". The 25 year old
player had this to say about the incident;
“ I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go ,” Then I
received two yellow cards and then red. Yes, I
was shocked, it’s the strangest thing I have ever
experienced in football.

The referee further explained himself. saying:
“I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it
on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore,
he received a yellow card.”
The player replied :
“To provoke anyone with a fart is not particularly
smart or normal. It’s nonsense , I just broke wind
and got a red card. I spoke to the referee
afterwards, I was annoyed, but there were no bad
words. I just said he was a buffoon.”
