Fernando Hierro has been appointed Head Coach of Spain’s senior side by the Spanish Football Federation few hours after sacking Julen Lopetegui.

He will take over from Julen Lopetegui who was sacked a few hours ago after agreeing to a deal with Real Madrid to coach the La Liga outfit on Tuesday.

Hierro will be the new man in the helm of affairs when Spain open their World Cup campaign against Portugal on Friday before other group meetings with Iran and Morroco.

Spain have relieved Julen Lopetegui off his duties as head coach of the National team just a day to the World Cup commencement.

The 51-year-old was surprising named as Real Madrid’s new manager on Tuesday around 9 am UK time and agreed to take over after the conclusion of Spain’s World Cup campaign.

Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales was angered by the development and feel it's an attempt to destabilized the team. Rubiales feels insulted not only him but the entire federation and considers it appropriate for Lopetegui to go in a unanimous decision.

"We have decided to fire the national coach," Spanish Football Federation president, Luis Rubiales, said. "What we have achieved in getting here is due in great part to him, and we must thank him and wish him luck."

This is devastating, just less than 24hrs  to the kick-off, just camp is divided, no coach. Reports suggest several Spain players wanted him to stay till the end of  Spain's campaign but Rubiales insisted he must leave after finding out of his agreement with Real Madrid to coach the Spanish giant in dying minutes. He felt Lopetegui should have open up ahead of time. So what now? Spain have two scores to settle in a very short time (i.e.) in less than a day. To get a manager that will be able to instill his character and philosophy in the team and also ensure the players' happiness.

Spain are pitted in group B alongside Portugal, Morroco and Iran and will kick-start their campaign against Portugal on Friday.

Super Falcons of Nigeria picked qualification ticket for the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations(AWCON) after dubbing six  past Gambia in the second leg qualification match at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The Nigerian Senior Female National side got an early lead with Opanarozie converting  from the spot after Ordega was felled in the box.

Just before the halftime break African Women's Player of the Year Oshoala doubled the lead for the Super Falcons as they went to the half time break with a two goal lead.

After the break Oshoala scored set up teammate Oparanozie to score her second of the game in the 49th minute.

Oparanozie scored her hatrick when put through on goal by Ngozi Okobi to score the fourth goal of the game, while Oshoala added fifth in the 74th minute.

The last goal of the game was scored by Oparanozie who completed her double brace in the 83rd minute.

The result means that Nigeria won both the home and away encounters after a 1-0 victory in Gambia to give a 6-0 win on aggregate.

The Super Falcon have therefore progressed to the 11th AWCON finals which will be held in Ghana later in 2018 which will produce the continents representatives at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Cori Gauff, young American Junior tennis player beat fellow American, Caty McNally in the finals of the French Open Juniors 1-6, 6-3. 7-6 to become the youngest girls’ champion to rule Roland-Garros since 1993.

Nothing could match the joy on Simona Halep’s face when she grabbed the French Open trophy and got her first kiss.

Fatima Abdullahi, a widow in her early 50s rather than resort to begging for alms  has found succor in selling beans cake popularly known as “akara”.
