@MyPeace
The new thread i'm suggesting would be for Monthly Stock Picks, so as to enable clarityand avoid disambiguity. combining both on this thread may cause confusion which is common place on Nairaland.
Anywayz ur opinion carries a lot of weight so its still very open. Thanks.

@grabdbull, madeonline
Lets all have fun this season.
Happy New Year.

@haicomgps
I guess the best advice i can give now is for you to find a thread on this forum that addresses that issue, cos i know it exists somewhere.
InvestmentRe: Weekly Stock Picks by upson(op): 5:47pm On Dec 14, 2007
Intercont is a good buy anywhere around N35.00
exit target should be somewhere close to N40.00.

i guess we would resume the weekly picks NEXT YEAR.
cheesy Hurray the Holidays are here  cheesy

Between now and the end of the year, i would/should be posting some picks for the 1st month of Next Year. To be followed by a comprehensive compilation, mayb on another thread to be named ,

Thanks All for your support, words e.t.c.

InvestmentRe: Weekly Stock Picks by upson(op): 9:24pm On Dec 10, 2007
I guess the we've missed out of this week's action because of the inability to post on this forum, i think i would revisit an earlier suggestion by Grabdbull on having an alternative medium.

Anyways the Result from last week's picks are as follows.

WEEK 2 3rd to 7th December

Company opening price closing price gain/loss

V-Stocks
GUINEAINS 3.09 2.80 -9.39%
JAPAULOIL 7.66 6.95 -9.27%
INTENEGINS 1.87    1.94 3.74%
UNTL            1.90 2.39 25.79%
INTBREW     1.17 1.47 25.64%

G-Stocks
GUARANTY      30.25 30.15 -0.33%
CUTIX             13.95 13.24 -5.09%
AP                128.08 147.89 15.47%
UNILEVER    19.95 19.5 -2.26%
INTERCONT    31.50 35.00 11.11%

Overall performance for this week is 5.54% which is better than that of week 1 of 3.81%.
The performance this time, was spread across board, and for those people still that commented on my choice of UNTL, i guess the result speaks for itself.

Have a lovely week all  cheesy.

InvestmentRe: Weekly Stock Picks by upson(op): 3:51pm On Dec 04, 2007
@All
My selections are based not on one or two factors but on a multipicity of factors that influence price
The chief of which i learnt during my years studying Economics and they are Demand and Supply

N.B. Instinct is not a factor

@MyPeace, blueband.
UNTL's operations is a factor,
but i can tell you precisely that the demand for the shares outstrips supply thus in two days (Monday and today) it has done a positive 9.47%.

Please note that information drives the market and the NSE is not an exception. In as much as this information is valuable, it can't be gotten for Free, and sometimes even money can't buy it.
InvestmentRe: Weekly Stock Picks by upson(op): 12:03pm On Dec 02, 2007
i hope this weeks performance would be better, although i haven't had enough time to work on the picks.

InvestmentRe: Weekly Stock Picks by upson(op): 11:59am On Dec 02, 2007
B4 i post the picks for this week, i think there is need for some education here.
my objective for initiating this thread is not to educate on the modus operandi of the Nigerian Stock Market, i guess so many threads on Nairaland are already doing that.
But i see the need to educate some seemingly NASDAQ, FTSE, NYSE knowledgeable people on how the Nigerian market operates.

@ Ibime
from your posts, its obvious you dont know a lot of things about this market, and pls endeavour to add more to your knowledge base.
Firstly, i dont know of any form of Fundamental analysis that would indicate possible price movements over a duration as short as one week.

Secondly, your insinuation about the time of completion of a single transaction on the NSE obviosly lets the cat out of the bag on your level of familiarity with NSE.
A regular transaction takes only one second to execute, but the cash side of the transaction takes T+3. The meaning of this is that ownership is transferred once your broker executes your instruction, but you would not be able to cash-out (in the case of a sell mandate) until T+3.
In-fact depending on the level of rapport between you and your broker you can buy and sell the same stock on the same day, cos ownership transfer is instanteneous. but that may not be available for even millionnaire clients.

Thirdly, one the issue of G-stocks. The objective here is not to identify or select Growth Stocks, but the motive as clearly stated is to identify G-Stocks that is expected to appreciate during the week. Thus, G-stocks is used here just as a nomenclature for a select category of stocks and not as a definition as you thought.

Lastly, on the comparison with the NSE index, i believe the index is public information, so you can do your evaluation in whatever context you so desire. Even the performance of the "best portfolio managers" is pubicly available so pls compare the results against whatever standard you desire.

I want to plead that you allow me maintain the anonymity usernames are meant to guarantee, cos i dont want this thread to be mistaken for a marketing campaign, in the process losing its value and consequently defeating the objective of the thread as stated in the first post.

Talking about commitment to the thread

are you going to be committed to posting on this thread?
it is my prayer too, that i dont get distracted or too busy to continue rendering this Nairaland Community Service.

upson, i dey gbadun you. about equity assurance,can u predict how it can go? list other v-stocks too. thanks
I can't resist the urge of not wanting to give target prices. But i will do this for Equityasur because i don't want people to get in and get trapped. A good exit target for Equityasur maybe around N2.20, because after todays trading (2.04) the bullish power seem to have lowered, thus it may not go much further before tiring out.

@toskin, eva4ward
Thanks for the nice words  smiley

I am sorry, i dont have target prices. but the concept is to identify stocks that would add value to your portfolio on a weekly basis.

N.B. the duration is very important, strictly Monday to Friday.

@Akinalabi

You did a great job posting this here, I must confess. But please do tell the meaning of the following:

Chelsea V Blackburn        8/13 Home      13/8 Draw      7/1 Away

I have followed this thread keenly and went through the brief tutorial you gave earlier, at the beginning, but I still need this one favour from you.

Let me get the full meaning of the above. I picked it from William Hill. For example: is 8/13 the same as 13/8?

Thanks!

@ raylabel
please let the normal business flow, if u follow akin or any other seriuos poster here, u are sure going to make more money than u would from referring people to contribute to one smart oyinbo man's pocket.

my advice is: learn to bet on sports and u'll make good money. let referral programmes die for they have nothing to offer, because if they did they wouldn't rely on your money or even pay u for referring people.
