ABOUT 15 traditional rulers representing various communities in Ayedade, Irewole, Isokan and Ife North local councils of Osun State have staged a peaceful protest to the Osogbo Office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) due to non-availability of electricity supplies to their communities. The monarchs said their subjects have been giving them sleepless nights over poor supply of electricity which has thrown the entire areas into perpetual darkness. Led by the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi Odugbemi, the traditional rulers including the Olumoro of Moro, the Saalu of Edunabon, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, the Akire of Ikire, Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Oniwaro of Iwaro, lamented that residents in the areas could no longer cope living in darkness while artisans in the communities also suffered untold hardship for lack of electricity to do their work. The royal fathers said they took the decision as a last resort to incessant complaints and restiveness by residents in their various domains who are agitating for a quick restoration of power to their communities. They claimed that youths in the areas have threatened to attack their palaces and make the communities ungovernable if the monarchs failed to prevail on the electricity authorities to take urgent steps to restore light to enhance socio-economic activities in the areas. One of the traditional rulers said that the youths refused to go back to their various domains without a concrete promise from the power company. Hi, I concluded my HND months ago and would probably be deployed for service next year but I have this thing I've been thinking about. I'm 21 years of age and I consider studying further, Veterinary Medicine to be precise (as I studied Animal Health Technology) which is going to take me about 5 years. Is it advisable I go for NYSC before studying further or go to Vet school first? |
In recent times, the Buhari led administration has reaffirmed her commitment to diversify our economy from oil to Agriculture. Agriculture has we all know is mainly practiced in the rural communities and a major way to boost agricultural production is making life comfortable for rural dwellers. One of the ways at which life can be made comfortable for rural dwellers is the provision and supply of electricity without which will encourage Rural Urban Migration which will thus discourage practicing Agriculture. Lack of power supply in approximately 3 months has brought about the Clamour of some Rural communities in Osun state under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The lack of electricity supply in the local communities of Ikoyi, Apomu, Ikire, Gbongan, Moro, Edunabon, Akinlalu, Iwaro et al., of the Isokan, Irewole, Ayedaade et al., Local Government areas of the state has been a major concern which has even brought the attention of the said community monarchs to visit the office of the IBEDC in couple of weeks back [www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/monarchs-protest-power-outage-in-osun-communities/] but yet the issue has been left unresolved. The provision of adequate power supply is essential to the development of Rural Communities and will also help artisans and Small scale enterprise which is why one of the first major steps taken by the new Ooni of ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II is the provision of transformers for his community [pulse.ng/local/ooni-of-ife-queen-of-england-buhari-others-to-attend-coronation-id4411818.html] as he is a man who knows the importance of this said Infrastructure (Power) to his Community. **I salute him and appreciate his gesture** Power doesn't just serve as a means of Comfortability for Rural dwellers but it importantly serve as the required facility needed for the processing and storage of Agricultural produce and a lack of which hinders processing and amount to spoilage of many agricultural products. The communities of Ikoyi, Apomu, Ikire, Gbongan, Moro, Edunabon, Akinlalu, Iwaro et al., which have formally enjoyed a satisfying amount of electricity supply (approx. 12-20hours) in the past before the privatisation of the Electricity Distribution Companies have now been said to have been disconnected from the grid of communities to be supplied electricity due to low income/revenue generated from supplying this communities power, illegal connections and other various reasons know to them. This act of disconnection from the main grid by the IBEDC is not a good move as it has to a larger extent added to the drowning economy crisis hitting the state as a whole, where civil servants have resolved to Agriculture as a means of survival and yet the lack of power supply is killing the whole process. It is in this regard that I (we) call on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), The Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing and The Presidency to help find a lasting solution to this issue and also find a means to curtail illegal electrical connection and punish defaulters as I'm sure this type of incidence isn't only affecting the said communities but distributed across the country. God bless State of Osun! God bless Nigeria! ! Cc: Mynd44, OAM4J, Lalasticlala |

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday said it has withdrawn the “data floor price’’ for operators in the telecommunications industry. “Floor price’’ is a government or group-imposed price control or the limit a price can be charged for a product to check unhealthy rivalry among players. In a statement in Lagos, the commission said that the withdrawal was in a bid to ensure sustainability, growth and development of the data service market segment. “However, the commission will restore the floor price if any distortion is observed within the market segment,’’ it said. NAN reports that with the withdrawal of the price, telecommunications industry now has the permission of NCC to charge subscribers lower than the set lowest industry prices. The regulatory body had in May 2013 imposed a price floor on telecommunications operators in the country as a means of controlling anti-competitive behaviours by operators considered to have attained the dominant status in the industry. Such anti-competitive behaviours include charging calls within their networks much lower than what they charged for calls terminating on other networks. With this, the operators might just be setting up calling clubs – a practice where subscribers just call those within the network of their own service providers. Vehicular movements on Odo-Ona to Apata road in Ibadan were yesterday disrupted as hundreds of students of Federal College of Agriculture, Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, took to the streets following an accident involving one of their colleagues. National Mirror learnt that Aminu Adekola, a 200-level student of Agriculture Technology Department, was hit by a mini-cab, Micra, while attempting to cross the road. According to some of the students, who preferred anonymity, the student was standing in front of the school’s gate when the taxi hit him, leaving him seriously injured. The incident occurred late in the afternoon. It was gathered that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital, Hebron, and then transferred to Zone E hospital at Oluyole Estate, Ibadan. While the victim, who they claimed went into coma as a result of the accident, was taken to the hospital, the students barricaded the road, denying motorists access and forcing commuters to trek. The students, who were seen monitoring the situation of their colleagues at the hospital, apparently to know the next step, appealed to the Federal Government to help construct speed breakers, street light or pedestrian bridge in front of the school. Tomrock007:Yes oooo my brother! Are you a moorite? |
django1:it seems you didn't listen to the news, well for your information, we ain't constituting nuisance, we're just showing our grievances and protecting ourselves. A student was hit by a speeding vehicle while about to cross into the school and this is not the first time something of such is happening. we've written on several occasions to the School management and the Government to provide Speed breakers(bumps) for us on the highway for some years now all but to no avail. If nothing is done on that road overnight, we're gonna continue tomorrow till Victory is ascertained. We are not nuisance, we're only making our voices heard. we ain't chicken left to be killed by speeding vehicles, we're students! #AminuMustSurvive #AlutaContinua! #VictoriaAscerta. |
