Cochlear® performs Cochlear Implant surgery at Amin Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano State, National Hospital Abuja, and Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Lagos Nigeria.

The team consisted of Mentor Surgeon, Prof. Firas Alzoubi, Prof. Emmanuel Kolo (Chief Consultant/HOD E.N.T Department, AKTH), Dr. Simeon Afolabi of BSA Hearing and Speech Center (Cochlear's Authorised Distributor for Nigeria) Mr. Davide Profeta (Cochlear® Area Sales Manager for Sub- Saharan Africa) and a host of indigenous ENT professionals located in Nigeria.

This maiden surgery marked the designation of Amin Kano Teaching Hospital as a Cochlear Implant Center in the Northern region of Nigeria, while surgery has since commenced in National Hospital Abuja in 2010 and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital since 2014 for persons suffering from severe to profound hearing loss who are in need of an implant to restore their hearing.

Speaking to the press after the surgeries, Dr. Abiodun Olusesi, a consultant Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeon, said that "the Cochlear® Nucleus program commenced in 2010 in the hospital and so far 18 Cochlear® Nucleus implantations have been done successfully at the National Hospital, Abuja for persons suffering from severe to profound hearing loss who are in need of an implant to restore their hearing".
