Let me add mine as encouragement. I'm not from a poor family by the way, I've always be driven to school in a Lexus with AC and a personal driver that's drives me and my brother's. Lived in a house with 8 rooms when we are just 6. When I was in secondary school, jss2, I always wanted to make money myself, my dad used to give me 100 naira, and I was so mad that even with everything he had I was getting so little. I went to the school canteen to buy sweet and noticed it was sold 15 naira in my school, but sold 5naira outside back then. Then I got an idea, So I started buying lollipop sweets to sell In school my dad never knew.and I sold and made some money. Did that till I got to ss1 before I stopped, that when I grew up small and stated collecting 500 naira for lunch everyday. Well after school I still went to install games and music for people in the market, my dad never knew, the day he found out he actually arrested. Lol. But in all this I wanted to make something for myself. But my dad finally made me lazy. I wish I was born poor, I won't be lazy and rude as I am right now.maybe who knows I could have even made my own personal million without my pops help..such is life. Sorry I meant 100 naira. 18 Likes |

Well this Story is about my uncle . He was so poor that he couldn’t feed and at times would go hungry for a day or two. He met his then ex wife whose father was rich and her father liked him but he was poor and the wife couldn’t stay with him as she would mocked him that why should she leave her father’s compound to come and suffer here? She never lacked food in her father’s house that she is suffering in the marriage. She left with the kids to her father’s house . My uncle was devastated and he left to another village where nobody knew him and he knew nobody to be doing farm work. As God would have it , he found favor in the eyes of a rich man in the village and the man took him to his house and gave him shelter . He would go out into the bush to clear farms , leaving so early in the morning before anyone ever woke up. Any money given to him he kept saving them up . The man has a daughter which he later started liking . My uncle married her and her father blessed them with cash and some properties. This man then went to his formal village ... he did business .. did all sorts of businesses that would fetched him money . He became so rich and known with properties that can’t be mentioned . He was so helpful to everyone and very generous. He built a house for his wife as a form of appreciation. His ex wife later couldn’t marry . He didn’t have anything to do with her even when she was sick. That man suffered o. I have to cut short the story cos if I put the whole story here, day will break before I finish telling it . Sadly he died last year . Everyone wept uncontrollably... where will they run to if they need help ? No man is as generous as he was. He took his poor family to the top, everyone of his brothers became rich too. He bought so much lands that after he died , Lands the family were not in the know , kept being discovered . 21 Likes 1 Share |

[quote author=Vicas2000 post=87762411]We were so poor...I could not go to uni when all my friends were. Here's what helped.... 1. I read Lots of books. Motivational books. Business books. Marketing books. One that helped me know there was more to life was Robert Schuller book 'Tough times don't last but tough people do'. I borrowed a foto copied version from a friend. That was in 1997. I would Starve myself so I can buy books. Sometimes I foto copy from other people or borrow it. By 2007...i stumbled on some CDs by Sam Adeyemi and he advised the best way to get out of poverty is to learn a skill and make money from it. 2. I learnt a skill. That paid lots of money. I learnt copywriting. Online marketing. Direct response marketing. I ready everything and watched all videos I could find online by Frank Kern....Dan Kennedy and started applying it. 3. I would read a lot about rich people. Wht they do. What houses they buy....what business they run. How they make money. 4. I would also read any business book. Financial newspapers. I am that person that would buy a newspaper to see the adverts in it and trace what those companies do. Overtime...I started making money. Made first million in 2008. And then just rinse and repeat. I have lost millions too. But a lot better now financially. Travelled the world. Met lot of people. Built contact. And at the ripe age of 35 got a degree from a foreign University. Funny enough....that degree is now useless. Even in full time employment in my country of residence...i have never been asked for the certificate. What matters most is Mayo lea |

It start with a decision to leave poverty and the ability to work it out. It's a mixture of hard-work, determination to grow out of poverty and the finger of God. I know my story will encourage somebody currently fighting poverty. I was born into a family of 12 children, my dad married 2 wives and living life wasn't easy. After secondary school, there was no hope for university because the money wasn't available. But i told myself i will be the first University graduate (positive mindset) and i was the seventh child. One week after secondary school i started working as a sales rep then i was barely 18 and i worked for 2 years to save money to take jamb and Utme (being focus and disciplined) By 2007 i wrote jamb and utme, i passed the exams and was admitted to Uniben. That's where the major suffering started. I did all kinds of jobs ( worked in an oil mill, did Mason jobs and menial jobs) to see myself through school (work to sustain your dream). No babe through University and no camera phone (be discipline and manage your resources) Life begin to change after University, started NYSC and savings continues but as you will have it in most poor homes, my savings went to sponsoring my younger ones ( raising other family members) After NYSC i got my first job almost immediately through a friend i met when i was doing my sales rep job between 2005 -2007 (make good friends) and currently on my second job and i have been working for about 6 years now. Testimonies: Two of my younger ones are graduates and another one in his 500 level studying pharmacy I have built my house, other landed properties about to start building a plaza, live well, happily married and have a good car and building my real estate brand. If you want to leave poverty, it's a long work to freedom. For some they are lucky the work isn't too hard before help comes but you have to work hard and be very focus. I'm still fighting the fight but i can't be poor to zero because i have good investments on landed properties and God gat my back. 33 Likes 1 Share |

I never met my parents in their poorest state. I was the last born. My older siblimgs told me about how my mum had to sell pure water on the streets with many men hitting on her, notwithstandin she got me strapped on her back. My mum told me about several times my dad cried because he couldnt provide for the house. However i witnessed some part of the suffering. Can remember been lied to that there was something cooking while it was just water they were boiling. I cAn remember been mocked by my classmates because of my torn shoes. Been mocked by the teachers because i couldn't afford books. Well now that is all in the past... Now we aren't rich...but at least we are comfortable enough for me to go to a private university without stress... We are comfortable enough to buy recent cars... My advice... GO TO SCHOOL... trust me school isn't a scam... If opportunity should meet you, your certificate will aid your progress. Secondly, prayyyyyyyy. 20 Likes |

I learnt that travelling abroad is not for everyone. Let God guide you to your own green pastures. When you are where God wants you to be, you'll flourish. I travelled to Dubai to seek greener pastures but cane back with almost nothing. But while there, I realized that I had (and still have) an excellent customer-relations skills. I can sell anything if only I put my mind. I came back home in 2018. And here I am today. By God's grace, I have my own business running, earning serious money and still having time to rest unlike what I faced in Dubai. I return all the glory to God because it wasn't my power. 11 Likes |

At 2004, I was in my SS3 and my dad paid for my NECO which I made only 4 paper mehn d man said to me my son I am through with you go and do d rest for yourself meanwhile my mum wasn't staying with us she didn't even care abr us her children, so I started hustling, doing small job, following pure water motor then I gather money two years later enrolled myself for another exam and this time I make my paper and I gather money d following year and took poly jamb @ 2008 I also pass all these while I was in my father so to get money for higher education I have to leave my father house and go and do house help (houseboy)so d agreement is that d person will train me without physical payment to me. I started my ND at 2009 and concludes by my OND by 2010 and I stayed at home two years by 2013 I went back to my HND and God helping me I graduated by 2014 and proceed to my NYSC, all these my mum didn't know I was existing and my dad only had that am on school. I concluded my NYSC in 2016 I went to my dad house and d guy was so proud but he had forgotten how he chase me out. Two months after my NYSC i got a call that I should send my CV my brother how was how I wax invited to an interview in an oil servicing company in PH my first interview in my life and I did well I got the job, from that day till now my mother had located me since then my dad had also located me, My parents will call me to send money to them well I forgive them...my thought if o have not taken d pain to go through all those pain will they locate me? shogsman:You could be right bro. Since we have hearing loss, we have fewer distractions by way of noise or music when barbing, so we focus all our visual attention towards a good haircut. I don't even play music in my salon despite the insistence of some of my clients because I see no reason to be playing music in my own shop when I myself can't hear it. 32 Likes |
