Politics / Re: Festus Adedayo : The Festus They Thought They Could Pull Down by usmanniya(m): 11:29am On Jun 21, 2019
After reading Festus Adedayo's account of his aborted appointment, I have now realised how shameless some people can be. Few days after bashing the process that produced Ahmad Lawan as Senate president, our guy was already in Ahmad Lawan's office for interview as media spox.

At his age and 'qualifications', he has to grovel before a man whose party and politics he consistently condemned. There are many opportunists like Festus who lurk around conflating their hustle with activism. I know of one 'young' presidential candidate in the last elections who is pushing his CV to a senior government official for job but will come on this platform and 'be forming woke.'

Our man now says the reversal is a blessing in disguise as he will now be able concentrate on his law school. The fact that he was willing to forego his law school education (with just two months to graduate) in order to take an appointment with the 'devils' he condemned speaks volumes about his desperation for the new job. He must be in 'severe pain' now!

I understand that the economy is harsh and I was reminded that people of Festus' age have school fees to pay and house rents to settle, together with many endless bills. But if you choose to take a career in government criticism, stay on your lane. You cannot condemn the devil in the morning and appear at his dining table in the evening.

MorufuAtanda:
The problem with this types of ethnic radio is that, they also be used to propagate propaganda which may lead to loss of lives, just as BBC Hausa painted the Jan 15 coup as 'Igbo coup' in 1967, even when Hausa soldiers were part of the perpetrators.

Sharrrrrrrrrrrap it was 100% an igbo coup within an igbo coup.

Ibos were the killers

Ibos were a lot in the cabinet, how come they didnt kill any Ibo cabinet member?

Nigeria had 4 regions, 2 regions ruled by Ibos they didnt kill the premier, the 2 regions ruled by non Ibos they killed the premier

The non Ibo Prime Minister was killed, the Ibo president was spared

Kaduna nzeogwu killed ahmadu bello in his residence

Emmanuel ifeajuna molest tafa balewa before killing him

Nwaobosi killed akintola in his residence after shoot out.

This re the 3 major actors of 1966 coup and their actions justified the tag Igbo coup.

And the Radio station has been a success according to research conducted by a foreign research organisation

"Hearing these real life stories, including stories of reconciliation, and nonviolent ways to resolve disputes, has had an impact. Smith says a recent survey in the region found that 90 percent of people surveyed knew what Dandal Kura was, and thought favorably of it.

“Perhaps even more importantly, people who listen to Dandal Kura tend to be less likely to believe that violence is a means to an end in northeastern Nigeria, than those who don't listen to Dandal Kura,” Smith says. “

Canadian broadcaster sets up radio to fight Boko Haram insurgency

A Canadian broadcaster, David Smith, has established a radio station focused at combating Boko Haram insurgency and its ideology.
The channel, Dandal Kura, will air on shortwave from Nigeria to discourage people from violence.
Dandal Kura, Kanuri words for meeting point, targets mainly the Kanuri and Hausa-speaking communities of Nigeria where Boko Haram has conducted a brutal insurgency since 2009.
Mr. Smith, a veteran crisis and conflict news reporter, distinguished himself by setting up radio stations in crisis areas to preach the gospel of peaceful coexistence in war-torn areas.
He cut his journalism teeth during the Apartheid in South Africa in 1985, and despite being of Canadian descent, worked for the ANC-owned radio station, Capital Radio, against the P.W. Botha-led National Party.
Mr. Smith describes Apartheid as “terrorism”.
He set up the first UN-supported conflict-zone radio in the Balkan region in the 90s during the war in Yugoslavia, and later established a similar project in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, CAR.
With the huge success recorded in educating the people to eschew violence in CAR, he set Radio Bar-Kulan (meaning a meeting place in the local language) in Somalia, and later established Radio Okapi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
With terrorism ravaging the Lake Chad Basin – an area covering parts of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroun – the broadcaster established Dandal Kura in Nigeria.
Speaking when he visited PREMIUM TIMES recently, the Media Advisor of Dandal Kura Radio, David Smith, said the station targets about 9 million people in the Lake Chad basin.
Mr. Smith, who once worked with the UN on media projects in conflict zones, said the major target audience of Dandal Kura Radio were states affected by the Boko Haram crisis.
He said although the station informs and entertain the people on routine issues, the thematic area of the its programming was largely on peace building.
He said Dandal Kura Radio broadcasts in Kanuri language in order to give people “sense of belonging and ownership”.
He said other areas of the station’s focus were Eastern Niger area of Diffa, the Northern Cameroon area of Marwa, Northern Chad, noting that the station had correspondents in these areas.
“We have network of correspondents in states affected by the Boko Haram activity, and also in neighbouring states,” he said.
“Interestingly, because I travel a lot to N’jamena where I am in talks with the Multi-National Joint Task Force and the Lake Chad Basin Commission, I come across a lot of Kanuri speaking people in N’jamena, there is a large Kanuri speaking IDPs in N’jamena.
“I didn’t know they existed until I started visiting the Lake Chad Commission, and all the Kanuri speaking people in N’jamena started to find me to tell me how much they appreciated Dandal Kura, and wanted to contribute in it.
“Interestingly, because we broadcast on shortwave, and shortwave covers a vast area, I can say even in South Africa, I can pick up Dandal Kura.
“We have a large following in South Sudan and other areas because of the Kanuri speaking people in the Juba area, as well as the Khartoum area. Because of the traditional and historical reasons, people travelling on overland route to Mecca find themselves settling in Khartoum.”
According to him, there are estimated 9 million Kanuri speakers in the Lake Chad basin, and that Dandal Kura Radio is the only radio station that mainly broadcasts in Kanuri.
He said the station was currently operating in Kano for security reasons, assuring that the station would soon move to Maiduguri, where he called the “the heart of the Kanuri speaking world”.
The station currently operates for six hours – from 6am to 8am on 7415KHz in the 41 metre band; 8am to 9am on 15480 KHz in the 19metre band; and 7 to 10pm on 11830 KHz in the 25 metre band.

Facebook bans Israeli-based fake accounts for interfering in Nigerian elections.

PULSE NIGERIA | SAMSON TOROMADE

Facebook has banned accounts that violated its misrepresentation policy to influence elections in Nigeria.

The accounts were caught engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior that targeted countries in three continents.

The accounts were caught engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior that targeted countries in three continents.

Facebook has removed a total of 265 accounts, pages, groups and events involved in coordinated inauthentic behavior which aimed to influence elections in Nigeria and other countries.

Facebook's head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, announced at a press conference on Thursday, May 16, 2019 that the activity originated in Israel and focused on Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia along with some activity in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The social media giant disclosed that some of the suspected activity was linked to Archimedes Group, a Tel Aviv-based political consulting and lobbying firm.

Gleicher noted that the network used accounts to run pages, disseminate their content and artificially increase engagement.

"They also represented themselves as locals, including local news organizations, and published allegedly leaked information about politicians.

"The Page administrators and account owners frequently posted about political news, including topics like elections in various countries, candidate views and criticism of political opponents," Gleicher said.

Facebook further accused Archimedes of repeatedly violating its misrepresentation policy as well as other policies such as engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior.

"This organisation and all its subsidiaries are now banned from Facebook, and it has been issued a cease and desist letter," Gleicher announced.

Facebook's head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher said that
65 Facebook accounts, 161 Pages, 23 Groups, 12 events and four Instagram accounts were removed and blocked from the social media platform.

About 2.8 million accounts followed one or more of the affected Pages, while about 5,500 accounts joined at least one of the Groups, and around 920 people followed one or more of the Instagram accounts.

Gleicher also revealed that around $812,000 was spent by the group for ads on Facebook paid for in Brazilian reals, Israeli shekel, and US dollars.

The first ad ran in December 2012 and the most recent ad ran in April 2019.

"We're constantly working to detect and stop this type of activity because we don't want our services to be used to manipulate people.

We're taking down these Pages and accounts based on their behavior, not the content they posted.

"As in other cases involving coordinated inauthentic behavior, the individuals behind this activity coordinated with one another to mislead others about who they were and what they were doing, and that was the basis for our action," Gleicher explained.

Even though Facebook could not authoritatively determine Archimedes' motives, Gleicher told journalists that it may be commercial or political or for some other strategic goal.

On its About page, Archimedes revealed that it has taken significant roles in many political and public campaigns, among them Presidential elections and other social media projects all over the world.

"Archimedes consists of experts from a wide spectrum of fields, consulting, lobbying, public diplomacy, International public relations, information, and social media," the group wrote.

Its slogan reads "Winning campaigns worldwide" on its official website.

At the time of filing this report, the organisation is yet to respond to inquiries about which campaigns it ran in Nigeria which recently organised general elections.

Facebook has, in recent times, been criticised for being pivotal to the spread of fake news and foreign interference with its lax policies that allows politicians b

Facebook has removed hundreds of social media accounts and banned an Israeli firm due to "co-ordinated inauthentic behaviour" mainly targeting Africa.

The fake accounts often posted on political news, including on elections in various countries, the firm said.

Facebook has faced rising criticism for failing to stamp out misinformation on its platform.

It launched a fact-checking programme in 2016 shortly after Donald Trump became US president.

In a blog post , Facebook said it had removed 265 social media accounts that originated in Israel and focused on Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia, along with "some activity" in Latin America and South East Asia.

Who can ID this gun for me

I was actually looking for a Double Barrel (Hunter's gun) from a friend who knows Police officer, so I can reinforce the defense of my home and my family.

So after a while he fed me back that there's no Double Barrel (Hunters Gun) but he too was told that if I can afford the one wrapped in the picture together with License/ Permit processing, then it will be a better option for me, according to him.
He further said that he too didn't see it as its actually wrapped as brand new but it is a 6-rounds Shotgun that uses Hunter's gun ammunition, and falls into the category that I can be granted Licence/ permit on.

So I've trying to figure out what exact model of Shotgun could it be.....?

Nigeria will base its 12 new Super Tucano light attack/trainer aircraft at Kainji Air Base in the west of the country.

This is a good product and ideal for Nigeria's situation. In fact this will be the most advanced avionics suite the Nigerian Pilots will be exposed to ever and also a suitable platform to train into 4+Generation fighters. This plane has no competitor currently in the market in terms of cost /benefit analysis. I think it costs some $500 per hour to operate with the well sought after Pratt & Whitney engines. And those other component of the contract covering civil engineering aspects on the base will teach Nigerians International standards in securing and storing Planes & ordnance in modern times. But Nigeria will come under Software update control from the US as a Political tool. That's the down side to buying US weapon platforms. You can't deploy them outside of contractual agreed theaters.

So three days ago the Tarrok attack a community in Taraba state and killed 3 military men, they also attack Frimang village in Karim lamido, and mind you, this is not the first time they are killing STF Members. infact in 2013 they invaded Wase LGA drove away more than 1000 STF Members and 300 MOPOL stationed to protect Wase LGA. From Langtang to Wase LGA is just 20km away. The emir of Wase LGA have to flee to Dangi LGA during the invasion.

Regarding the reprisal attack by the military, I don't have different information regarding it, but what I do deduce is that the military were on revenge mission and this is not the first time they are killing security men.

The Tarrok having encouraged by their victory over the Fulani started exporting their terror to other communities in Shendam, Kanke in plateau and Karim lamido in Taraba. The Tarrok communities are boarder with Taraba state in south of Plateau. They started engaging in cattle rustling, they started attaching the Jukuns whom they startedaccused of been friendly wit the Fulani. The Tarrok are heavenly armed with sophisticated weapons and they have guys or youths who are already battle trained. hardly can you get a household in Tarrok that dosent have a member of their family in the military, police, MOPOL. Many of them dismisses or deserted are part of the arned youths.

First of all, the area in question, Kardarko and Wadata are both in wase LGA Of Plateau. The people in that area is dominated by the people of Tarrok tribe dominant in Langtang LGA Of plateau, home town of Solomon Lar and Jerry Usaini and quite a number of former military leaders from northern Nigeria. the Tarrok tribe is a ferocious tribe and war minded, they are perhaps the only tribe in Nigeria that have completely dealth with the fulani. They fought two ferocious battle wit fulani in 2008 & 2013-2014. In all these battle, the fulani where given a taste of their medicine which is night attack on villages. the Tarrok tribe invaded countless fulani villages and today their area is the only area in plateau that is deviod of any fulani settlement.

To be continue. Mind you am from the north a Hausa / Fulani Muslim and all what am saying is the truth.

Politics / Emir Of Kano Sanusi Lamido To Rebuild Burnt Baptist Church In Kano. Pix by usmanniya(m): 5:52pm On May 01, 2015
Nigeria: Emir orders church rebuilding, warns against further attacks

The Emir of Kano has ordered the rebuilding of a Baptist church and pastor's house in Rogo Local Government Area (LGA), Kano State, and has warned against any further attacks on churches within his emirate. The church and pastor's house had been destroyed in violence that resulted in the death of the pastor's daughter.

Fifteen people have been arrested in connection to the attack on the church and pastor's house in Gidan Maso Village on the evening of 1 April, which claimed the life of the daughter of Reverend Habila Garba. Local Muslim youths set fire to her home and church after failing to locate a Christian man who had briefly converted to Islam before returning to Christianity.

On 9 April, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi II, summoned Rev Haliba Garba, the Rogo District Head, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Rogo and the CAN public relations officer to his palace to express dismay over the incident. He warned the District Head that such an incident should never be repeated in Rogo or anywhere else in the Kano State Emirate and ordered him to contact the LGA Chairman to facilitate the rebuilding of the church and pastor's house, sending a letter to the Chairman to that effect.

At a press conference in Abuja, General Ishaku Ahmed Dikko (Rtd.), president of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeriya (a Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christian organisation) said: "The action of the Emir has really rekindled the hope of all oppressed Hausa Fulani Kanuri Christians not only in Kano State but in all states where our people reside."

Prior to the Emir's intervention, a Kano State official who had visited the area to assess the situation had caused consternation by reportedly dismissing the violence as a minor incident that had attracted unwarranted publicity. General Dikko also called for action against four youth who were "roaming about boasting and threatening the Christians because they have not been arrested."

Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) said: "We applaud the decisive intervention by the Emir of Kano to ensure justice and restitution. Without his proactive intervention this appalling incident that claimed an innocent life would merely have been the latest occurrence in a litany of injustices suffered by religious minorities in Shari'a states. We encourage others in authority to emulate the Emir by ensuring equality before the law, justice and restitution regardless of the ethnicity or creed of victims of violence. If this occurs, his commendable initiative could mark the beginning of the erosion of impunity surrounding religion-related violence."
