A peace dialogue organized for communities in Batagarawa and Charanchi Local Government Areas of Katsina State has sparked controversy following claims that some of the supposed bandits at the event were actually hired locals.

According to reports shared by Katsina Times and an eyewitness account posted by security analyst @DanKatsina50 on X handle, many of the armed men at the meeting allegedly confessed that they were not bandits but were recruited to make the event look well-attended.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rev. Joseph John Hayab, has said that the era of constant killings in Kaduna State is gradually fading away under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.

Speaking in Kaduna on Sunday, Hayab explained that residents are beginning to experience peace after years of tension and insecurity.

He said the relative calm has restored confidence among citizens who once lived in fear.

“We’re no longer burying people like before,” he stated. “To a large extent, people are no longer scared to travel to certain places. Police in Thyolo have arrested a 26-year-old Ndirande resident, Mayeso Mission, on suspicion that he has been vandalising transformers for the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in the district.

The district’s police publicist, Amos Tione, has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Tione, Mission was arrested at Makande, after together with three other accomplices, currently at large, vandalised another transformer.

Tione alleged that the four are also behind the string of transformer vandalism at Khonjeni Turn-off, Sports club and Mtambanyama trade centre in the district.

Mission hails from Chikunkhu village, Traditional Authority Mphuka in Thyolo District.

U.S. government sentence Nigerian Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi to faces 11 years imprisonment for crime committed

The United States government has urged the District Court in Central California to sentence a Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, to 135 months in jail for fraud.

According to Premium Times, the US govt gave its reasons for proposing the equivalent of 11 years and three months jail time for Hushpuppi in its court filings.

Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate (UAE) in June 2020 over an extensive fraudulent scheme that has robbed victims of their money in the U.S., Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other places.
