Politics(photos) Philanthropist Chimezie Isiuku Receives Chieftaincy Title For Grassroot by uzorathena(op):
A United States–based Nigerian philanthropist and businessman, Ichie Chimezie Isiuku, has been honoured with a chieftaincy title by his community in Amucha, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, in recognition of his sustained humanitarian contributions and commitment to grassroots development.
The chieftaincy conferment, which took place on January 3, 2026, at the palace of the traditional ruler of Amucha Kingdom, His Royal Highness Eze Anayochukwu Oforegbu, the Okwraji III of Amucha, marked a significant moment for Isiuku, who described the honour as a validation of years of selfless service to his people.
Speaking after the ceremony, Isiuku said he was deeply grateful that his community had acknowledged his efforts, noting that despite living abroad, he has always maintained strong ties with his roots and remained committed to giving back.
“I love coming home to Nigeria, my country, because of the work we are doing through the Mezie Njaba Foundation,” he said. “We assist people to pay hospital bills, support indigent students by paying their school fees, and help the needy in the little way we can.”
Isiuku explained that the Mezie Njaba Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was established in 2018 during his bid for the Imo State House of Assembly. Although he did not emerge victorious in that election, he said the foundation gave him a renewed sense of purpose and a platform to continue serving his community beyond politics.
“After the election, I found a reason to keep the foundation functioning. Helping people became my way of giving back and honouring the memory of my father, who was also a humanitarian. I am simply building on what he started,” he said.
According to him, the foundation, with support from a management team that includes a coordinator currently based in the United Kingdom, has remained active over the years, focusing on education, healthcare and community development. In addition to settling hospital bills and school fees, the foundation has organised free medical outreach programmes and contributed to infrastructural needs, including the procurement of electricity transformers for the community.
Isiuku said these interventions were among the reasons the traditional ruler and community leaders found him worthy of a chieftaincy title. He was conferred with the title “Odi Uko Na Mba,” which he explained means “one whose type is rare in his community.”
“It is a humbling title because I do not hold public office, yet I use my meagre resources to support my people,” he said.
The chieftaincy ceremony was a colourful and well-attended event, with about 10 individuals receiving traditional titles on the same day. Community leaders, family members and well-wishers gathered at the palace to witness the occasion, which Isiuku described as a strong way to begin the new year.
He paid tribute to Eze Anayo Okpara, describing him as a well-read and progressive traditional ruler who takes genuine interest in initiatives that improve the welfare of the people.
Beyond philanthropy, Isiuku also spoke on his political journey and future aspirations. He contested for the Imo State House of Assembly in 2018 under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, but has since joined the All Progressives Congress, APC. He disclosed his intention to contest again in the 2027 general elections on the APC platform.
“I had a very good experience in Nigerian politics in 2018,” he said. “I am a Nigerian, I have worked in Nigeria, and I understand how the system works.”
He recalled serving as a revenue officer during the administration of former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim, describing the appointment as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
On his educational background, Isiuku said he holds a Nigeria Certificate in Education from Alvan Ikoku College of Education and a degree in Political Science from Abia State University. He later obtained a diploma in Law in the United Kingdom before relocating to the United States, where he ventured into the healthcare sector in 2011.
Now married with a family in the US, Isiuku also runs a logistics and freight business involved in shipping goods from America to Nigeria and other parts of the world, a venture he said has continued to thrive.
He used the opportunity to comment on Nigeria’s health and education policies, particularly the issue of remuneration, which he described as grossly inadequate. According to him, poor wages contribute significantly to crime and social instability.
“It is alarming when someone earns N70,000 a month, which is not even up to 100 dollars,” he said. “In the United States, even the lowest income earners can make up to 1,000 dollars a week. Nigeria must wake up and develop policies that regulate wages and protect workers.”
Isiuku argued that hunger and unemployment are major drivers of crime in Nigeria, stressing the need for job creation, industrialisation and better welfare policies. He said his motivation for seeking elective office is to contribute to lawmaking that would address these challenges and improve living standards for ordinary Nigerians.

January 15 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Is Nigeria a Nation?
By Dr Uzor Ngoladi

January 15 is etched into Nigeria’s national consciousness as Armed Forces Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion set aside to honour the men and women who laid down their lives in defence of the country’s sovereignty and unity. It marks, historically, the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970, a conflict that tested the very foundations of the Nigerian state. More than five decades later, as wreaths are laid and bugles sound across the country, the day compels us to ask a deeper and more unsettling question: is Nigeria truly a nation, or merely a geographical expression held together by force and ritual remembrance?

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is meant to be a moment of collective reflection, gratitude, and national solidarity. Yet, beyond the ceremonial pageantry, it exposes the contradictions at the heart of Nigeria’s existence. A nation, in the classical sense, is not simply a territory with borders, a flag, and an army. It is a shared sense of belonging, mutual obligation, and collective destiny. It is the conviction among citizens that their sacrifices, especially the ultimate sacrifice of life, are made in service of a just, inclusive, and meaningful common good. On this score, Nigeria continues to struggle.

The soldiers we remember on January 15 died believing, or at least being told, that they were defending a united Nigeria. Many fell during the civil war, others in peacekeeping missions abroad, and thousands more in recent decades battling insurgency, banditry, separatist violence, and communal conflicts. Their courage is not in doubt. What is in question is whether the country they defended has sufficiently honoured their sacrifice by building a nation worthy of it.

In today’s Nigeria, insecurity has become pervasive and normalised. From the North East to the North West, from the Middle Belt to the South East and South South, violence has assumed multiple forms: terrorism, kidnapping, farmer herder clashes, cultism, and criminal banditry. The armed forces are perpetually deployed internally, fighting fellow citizens rather than external aggressors. This reality alone raises profound questions about nationhood. A nation at peace with itself does not routinely require military force to hold it together.

Even more troubling is the uneven value placed on Nigerian lives. Armed Forces Remembrance Day invites us to honour fallen heroes, yet mass killings of civilians often pass with little more than perfunctory statements and fleeting outrage. Entire communities have been wiped out, worshippers slaughtered, travellers abducted, and students kidnapped, sometimes without accountability or justice. When lives are lost without consequence, remembrance becomes hollow. A nation that truly values sacrifice must also value life.

The civil war ended with the declaration of “no victor, no vanquished,” but the wounds of that conflict were never fully healed. Instead of deliberate reconciliation, justice, and inclusion, Nigeria chose amnesia. The structural imbalances that fuelled the war remained largely intact. Marginalisation, perceived or real, continues to shape political discourse and identity across regions. Armed Forces Remembrance Day, therefore, is not just about remembering the past; it is about confronting unresolved questions of equity, belonging, and fairness.

Is Nigeria a nation when large segments of its population feel excluded from power and opportunity? Is it a nation when citizenship does not guarantee security, dignity, or basic welfare? Is it a nation when loyalty to ethnic, religious, or regional identities often supersedes loyalty to the state? These questions are uncomfortable, but they are necessary if remembrance is to be meaningful rather than symbolic.

True nationhood demands more than military sacrifice. It requires political leadership that is accountable, institutions that are strong and impartial, and a social contract that works for the majority, not just a privileged few. It requires a state that protects its citizens, listens to their grievances, and offers peaceful mechanisms for resolving conflicts. Without these, soldiers are asked to compensate for failures of governance with their blood.

January 15 should therefore be a day not only of honour, but of national introspection. The fallen soldiers cannot speak for themselves, but their sacrifice asks something of the living. It asks whether we are building a country that justifies their loss. It asks whether Nigeria is moving closer to becoming a nation defined by shared values and justice, or drifting further into fragmentation held together by coercion.

The answer to the question “Is Nigeria a nation?” cannot be found in speeches or ceremonies alone. It will be answered by how the state treats its citizens, how conflicts are addressed, how diversity is managed, and how justice is dispensed. Armed Forces Remembrance Day should challenge leaders and citizens alike to recommit to the hard work of nation building.

If Nigeria is to truly become a nation, remembrance must translate into reform. The blood of fallen heroes should not merely water the soil of endless conflict; it should nourish a renewed commitment to unity, equity, and peace. Anything less would render January 15 a ritual devoid of substance, and the sacrifices we honour, tragically in vain.

Breaking: Dr Alex Otti emerges FOSAD South-East Best Performing Governor 2025 with over 50 percent score

The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD), in furtherance of its mandate to promote good governance, accountability, and evidence-based public leadership in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone, has announced the outcome of its 2025 South-East Governors’ Performance Poll. The poll, conducted as part of FOSAD’s end-of-year activities for 2025, ranked Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, as the Best Performing Governor in the South-East for the year under review.

The poll was conducted online through Google Forms and was open exclusively to members of FOSAD, who are academic professionals and citizens of the five states that make up the South-East region of Nigeria. A total of 830 valid responses were recorded, reflecting a broad and informed assessment by respondents with deep knowledge of public policy, governance, and development issues in the region.

At the conclusion of the poll, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State emerged overall winner with 461 votes, representing 55.5 percent of the total responses. He was followed by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who came second with 292 votes, amounting to 35.2 percent. The third position was taken by Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, who recorded 65 votes, representing 7.8 percent. Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State received seven votes, equivalent to 0.8 percent, while Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State came last with five votes, representing 0.6 percent.

According to the leadership of FOSAD, the outcome of the poll reflects the collective perception of its members on the performance of South-East governors across clearly defined governance and development indicators. These indicators include security, peace and rule of law; economic development and job creation; infrastructure and urban development; education and human capital development; healthcare delivery and social welfare; agriculture and food security; governance, transparency and accountability; youth, women and social inclusion; diaspora engagement and regional integration; as well as environment, climate, and sustainability.

FOSAD noted that Governor Otti’s performance rating was driven by members’ assessment of reforms, policy direction, and visible governance outcomes in Abia State within the period under review. The Forum emphasized that the poll was not designed to disparage any governor, but rather to provide constructive feedback and encourage healthy competition, peer learning, and continuous improvement in governance across the region.

The Forum further stated that the 2025 poll was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, with no external influence or financial inducement. The process was entirely voluntary and reflected the independent views of participating members.

In recognition of his performance, Dr. Alex Otti will be formally presented with the FOSAD Best Performing South-East Governor 2025 Award at a ceremony scheduled to hold in January 2026. FOSAD expressed confidence that this recognition will further inspire governors in the region to deepen reforms and prioritize people-centered development.

The Forum also announced that the South-East Governors’ Performance Poll will henceforth become an annual exercise, aimed at tracking progress, strengthening accountability, and sustaining informed civic engagement in the governance of the South-East region.

Honourable Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has extended a New Year message to the people of Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency and Nigerians at large, calling for renewed hope, collective responsibility, and courageous action in the pursuit of a better society.

In his New Year address, OmoBarca described the beginning of the year as a moment of reflection and resolve, urging citizens to approach the future with confidence and determination. He noted that despite the many difficulties confronting the country, a better Nigeria remains achievable through unity, accountability, and active civic engagement.

According to him, Ajeromi Ifelodun and Nigeria as a whole have endured prolonged challenges ranging from economic hardship and political instability to infrastructural deficits and the persistent demand for justice and good governance. He stressed, however, that these challenges should no longer define the nation’s destiny.

OmoBarca stated that the New Year presents an opportunity for citizens to reject passivity and take ownership of the future they desire. He emphasised that progress would not be driven by rhetoric or empty assurances but by decisive action, shared responsibility, and leadership that is responsive to the people.

Addressing residents of Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency, he described the area as a symbol of resilience and strength, noting that its people possess the collective power to demand better governance and inclusive development. He encouraged constituents to use their voices and civic rights to insist on leadership that listens and policies that genuinely improve living conditions.

"Our community has the capacity to shape its future,” he said, adding that democratic participation remains a critical tool for transformation. He urged residents to remain engaged in the political process and to hold leaders accountable at all levels of governance.

Turning to Nigerians nationwide, OmoBarca called for a rejection of cynicism, corruption, and divisive politics. He appealed for a renewed commitment to national unity, fairness, and social justice, noting that sustainable development depends on shared values and collective effort.

He also highlighted the importance of education, innovation, and inclusivity as pillars for national renewal, stressing that the Nigeria envisioned by citizens must be one that works for all, regardless of background or status.

OmoBarca further reminded citizens that meaningful change does not occur through waiting or wishful thinking, but through deliberate action and unity across social, ethnic, and political divides. He maintained that every individual has a role to play in building a nation anchored on dignity, opportunity, and peace.

As the New Year unfolds, he expressed optimism that Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, possess the energy and vision needed to reshape the country’s future. He concluded by wishing all Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous New Year, with special goodwill to the people of Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency.

He ended the message with a call for divine guidance and national cohesion, expressing hope that the year ahead would bring the country closer to the future its citizens deserve.

OmoBarca also emphasised that the entry of Peter Obi into the ADC goes beyond personality politics, describing it as a convergence of vision, values, and purpose. He said the development sends a strong signal to Nigerians, especially young people and grassroots communities, that credible alternatives to the old political order are not only possible but already taking shape.

PoliticsFOSAD Urges Southeast Governors To Emulate Southwest Security Model And Establis by uzorathena(op): 11:28am On Nov 29, 2025
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) commends the visionary and coordinated security initiative unveiled by the South-West Governors during their recent meeting in Ibadan, where they jointly launched the South West Security Fund (SWSF) and a real-time digital security platform to enhance intelligence-sharing and collaboration across all six states of the region.

This decisive move marks a major milestone in subnational security innovation, demonstrating responsible leadership and a proactive commitment to safeguarding citizens.

The South-West has now set a national standard for regional security cooperation.

FOSAD believes this success story carries urgent lessons for the South-East.

For years, the South-East has faced worsening insecurity ranging from violent attacks, kidnapping, community clashes, to the breakdown of social and economic activities in some areas.

The absence of a unified regional security architecture has made the region vulnerable, weakened law enforcement operations, and allowed violent non-state actors to exploit existing gaps between states.

It is in this context that FOSAD strongly urges the five governors of the South-East; Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo to immediately emulate the South-West model by adopting the following:

1. Establish a South-East Joint Security Fund (SEJSF)
A dedicated and ring-fenced security fund, jointly managed by the Special Advisers on Security from each of the five states, will ensure:
• predictable financing for security operations
• coordinated deployment of security personnel
• improved equipment, surveillance tools, and logistics
• strategic planning and long-term crime prevention
Security must not depend on ad-hoc allocations or political discretion. A regional fund will guarantee stability, accountability, and faster response to emerging threats.

2. Launch a South-East Digital Security and Intelligence Platform
The South-West governors have shown that technology is central to modern security management. A regional digital hub for intelligence-sharing will help:
• track suspicious movement across state borders
• coordinate rescue operations
• monitor road corridors where kidnapping is rampant
• detect early-warning signals before violence escalates
• improve collaboration between state security outfits and federal agencies
Criminals exploit regional disunity. A digital platform will close those gaps.

3. Strengthen and harmonize the South-East security outfit (Ebubeagu/other models)
Regional security outfits in the South-East remain fragmented, underfunded, and poorly coordinated. A unified command structure backed by a joint fund can revitalize operational capacity and restore public confidence.

4. Demonstrate political will and regional unity
The South-West model works because the governors operate as one bloc—placing security above political differences.
The South-East deserves the same level of collective responsibility.
Regional insecurity has decimated businesses, weakened investor confidence, driven away industries, disrupted education, and inflicted deep psychological trauma on residents. The region cannot continue relying on fragmented state-level solutions to an increasingly regional problem.

The time for talk is over. The people of the South-East demand action, coordination, and innovation. If the South-West can unite to protect their region, the South-East must not remain an exception.
Our future economically, socially, and politically depends on the security of our people.

FOSAD stands ready to provide research support, policy advice, and technical expertise to assist in designing a robust regional security framework.
Security is a collective responsibility. The South-East must rise to the challenge.

Press Statement 28/11/2025

FOSAD condemns exclusion of South-East & South-South in President Tinubu’s US–Nigeria Security Working Group, demands immediate reconstitution

The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) expresses deep concern and strong dissatisfaction over the recent appointment of members of the US–Nigeria Security Working Group by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones were completely excluded.

The Working Group constituted to collaborate with the United States Government on developing joint strategies to tackle terrorism, banditry, and other complex security threats features the following eight members:

1. Nuhu Ribadu – Adamawa (North-East)
2. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar – Bauchi (North-East)
3. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar – Jigawa (North-West)
4. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo – Ondo (South-West)
5. Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro – Plateau (North-Central)
6. General Olufemi Oluyede – Ekiti (South-West)
7. Mohammed Mohammed – Kwara (North-Central)
8. Kayode Egbetokun – Ogun (South-West)

A security committee charged with shaping the future of national defence should reflect the diversity and plurality of Nigeria. Instead, this list South-East and South-South regions that have not only suffered from severe security challenges but also contain critical intellectual, professional, and institutional resources necessary for such a strategic body.

This lopsided appointment raises fundamental questions about equity, federal character, and President Tinubu’s commitment to national inclusiveness. Security is a collective challenge. It cannot and must not be addressed through a narrow regional lens or by sidelining whole sections of the nation.

At a time when Nigeria is confronted with terrorism, separatist agitations, oil-bunkering cartels, herder–farmer conflicts, kidnapping syndicates, and rising ethnic tensions, a security working group that excludes key stakeholders from half of the country undermines both national unity and operational effectiveness.

FOSAD insists that the composition of this Working Group must reflect all six geopolitical zones if the Federal Government is genuinely committed to partnering with the United States to resolve Nigeria’s intractable security problems.

Excluding the South-East and South-South from such a sensitive and consequential national platform is unacceptable, counterproductive, and dangerous. These regions face unique security challenges that require representation at the highest levels of security planning and international cooperation.

We therefore call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to:
1. Immediately reconstitute the US–Nigeria Security Working Group to include representatives from all geopolitical zones.
2. Ensure strict adherence to the Federal Character principle, especially in sensitive matters of national security.
3. Demonstrate commitment to national cohesion by avoiding appointments that could deepen regional distrust or reinforce perceptions of bias and exclusion.
4. Engage security experts, academics, and regional stakeholders in future appointments to ensure informed, balanced, and effective representation.

For a partnership as critical as the US–Nigeria Security Working Group, no geopolitical zone should be exempted not in composition, not in consultation, and not in participation.

Nigeria can only defeat insecurity through unity, not exclusion; through inclusiveness, not sectionalism; and through justice, not favoritism.

PoliticsOMOBARCA Community Cup: Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima Addresses Ajegunle Residen by uzorathena(op): 12:09am On Nov 26, 2025
The atmosphere in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, was electrifying on Sunday as the second week of the OmoBarca Community Cup kicked off, drawing hundreds of football lovers, youth groups, and community leaders. The tournament, initiated by Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, continues to strengthen grassroots sports development while promoting unity and youth engagement across the constituency.

Hon. Chima, who attended the opening match of Week Two, used the occasion to address the participating teams and their supporters. He emphasized the importance of discipline, fair play, and respect for tournament rules—qualities he described as essential not only in sports but in nation-building.

He noted that the organizers had introduced a new regulation aimed at curbing disruptions and ensuring a seamless tournament. Under this rule, supporters are strictly forbidden from invading the pitch when their team scores. Any goal celebrated with a pitch invasion will be automatically disallowed.

“I fully endorse and reaffirm this rule,” he told the crowd. “We must maintain order, discipline, and fairness. This competition is about talent, sportsmanship, and community spirit—not chaos.”

Hon. Chima also seized the opportunity to address a broader national issue: youth political participation. He urged young people in Ajegunle and beyond to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“With the same passion you bring to this tournament, I want all of you to commit to registering for your PVCs,” he said. “Your vote is your voice, and 2027 is fast approaching. Let us be ready, let us be involved, and let us shape the future we want.”

He expressed gratitude to all participating teams, supporters, and organizers for their dedication and enthusiasm, describing the ongoing competition as “truly exciting and inspiring.”

“Thank you for making this tournament a success,” he added. “I look forward to seeing everyone again next Sunday for another exclusive football experience that celebrates unity, talent, and community pride.”

The OmoBarca Community Cup, now in its second week, has become one of Ajegunle’s most anticipated grassroots sporting events, fostering peace, youth empowerment, and social cohesion in Lagos’ most vibrant district.

PoliticsSouth-east Academic Doctors Condemn Life Imprisonment Verdict, Demand Immediate by uzorathena(op): 9:54am On Nov 22, 2025
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has issued a strong condemnation of the life imprisonment sentence handed down to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement released on Friday, the group described the judgment as unjust, discriminatory, and a major setback for Nigeria’s democratic credentials, calling for Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release.

FOSAD, a body comprising scholars of Igbo extraction across various fields of academia, said the ruling delivered by the Federal High Court is inconsistent with democratic principles, fundamental human rights, and the nation’s obligation to justice and equity.

“Kanu Is an Agitator, Not a Terrorist” — FOSAD

According to the Forum, Kanu’s agitation for self-determination does not equate to terrorism. Rather, the group argues, his long-standing advocacy stems from real and legitimate grievances suffered by the Igbo people, including political marginalization, poor representation at the national level, economic disadvantages, infrastructural neglect, and systemic exclusion.

In their statement, FOSAD maintained that criminalizing peaceful agitation while ignoring the core issues underlying the agitation is dangerous for the nation’s unity.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is an agitator whose actions stem from the legitimate grievances of a section of the Nigerian population,” the group said. “His quest for justice and social fairness does not rise to the level of terrorism. Labeling him a terrorist while sidelining the underlying issues only deepens national disunity.”

Double Standards in Justice Administration

The statement highlighted what FOSAD describes as a troubling inconsistency in the Nigerian justice system, noting that several individuals accused of more serious offences have either been freed, pardoned, or reintegrated into society.

Nigerians recall, the Forum noted, the cases of:

Omoyele Sowore, who openly called for a revolution against the state.

Sunday Igboho, who advocated for the establishment of the Oduduwa Republic.

Asari Dokubo, who issued threats including the possibility of shooting down military aircraft.

Numerous former Boko Haram members, responsible for widespread killings and destruction, who have been granted amnesty and reabsorbed into civilian life.

FOSAD described it as a “grave contradiction” that while individuals linked to violence have been rehabilitated or released, Kanu — whose activities are largely political and expressive — faces life imprisonment.

“This double standard undermines public confidence in our justice system,” the statement added. “It raises questions about equality before the law and the politicization of justice.”

Marginalization of the Igbo Nation

FOSAD insisted that the grievances fueling agitations in the South-East are real and historically grounded. The group cited political exclusion, federal imbalance, infrastructural decay, and persistent insecurity in the region as factors that have contributed to heightened calls for self-determination.

According to the Forum, these issues require political solutions, not punitive measures.

“The marginalization of the Igbo nation is a lived reality,” FOSAD stated. “It must be addressed sincerely through political dialogue rather than through imprisonment, intimidation, or repression.”

The group warned that Kanu’s continued detention may further inflame tensions and undermine national cohesion.

Call for Political Solution and National Dialogue

FOSAD emphasized that Kanu’s case should not be treated as a mere criminal matter but as a political issue requiring negotiation, reconciliation, and constructive engagement.

“Dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusion are the tools of mature democracies,” the Forum stated. “The continued detention of a man whose followers number in millions is not only unjust but dangerous for our collective peace.”

The group noted that the right to self-determination is a globally recognized principle enshrined in international law and cannot be criminalized simply because it challenges existing political structures.

Demands by FOSAD

In the detailed statement, FOSAD made the following key demands:

The immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

A renewed national conversation on restructuring and equity, particularly in relation to the South-East.

A political resolution that prioritizes justice, peace, national unity, and democratic values over authoritarian responses.

The group further urged the Federal Government to adopt a more inclusive approach to governance, noting that Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads.

“Nigeria Must Choose Dialogue, Not Force”

FOSAD cautioned that the path Nigeria chooses now will determine whether the nation moves toward unity or deeper fragmentation.

“Nigeria stands at a crossroads,” the statement warned. “Choosing dialogue over force will determine whether we move forward as a united nation or continue down a path of avoidable tension and mistrust.”

The academic body urged political leaders, civil society organizations, and traditional institutions to lend their voices to the call for a peaceful resolution of the matter.

Background: A Prolonged Legal and Political Battle

Nnamdi Kanu has been at the centre of one of Nigeria’s most controversial and politically sensitive legal battles for more than a decade. Arrested multiple times on charges ranging from treasonable felony to terrorism, his trial has drawn global attention and sparked protests across the South-East and among the diaspora.

His 2021 arrest in Kenya and subsequent extradition to Nigeria — described by his lawyers as a violation of international law — remains a subject of legal dispute. Thursday’s judgment sentencing him to life imprisonment triggered immediate reactions across the South-East, with political leaders, civil society groups, and international observers calling for calm and urging the government to pursue reconciliation.

Conclusion

With FOSAD joining the widening chorus of voices demanding political dialogue and the release of Kanu, pressure continues to mount on the Federal Government to reconsider its approach. As Nigeria grapples with rising insecurity, ethnic tensions, and calls for restructuring, the handling of Kanu’s case is widely seen as a critical test of the nation’s commitment to justice, unity, and the rule of law.

FOSAD Congratulates Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Electoral Victory, Decries Vote Buying During Anambra Governorship Election

The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) extends its warm congratulations to Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, on his resounding victory in the recently concluded governorship election. The Forum commends Governor Soludo’s steadfast commitment to progressive governance, intellectual leadership, and people-centered development policies that continue to inspire confidence among Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large.

Governor Soludo’s re-election, in the view of FOSAD, represents a collective endorsement of his administration’s innovative reforms in education, infrastructure, digital governance, and fiscal discipline. His intellectual rigor and transparent approach to leadership remain exemplary, reflecting the values of competence, integrity, and accountability that our region and nation require for sustainable development.

However, while celebrating this democratic milestone, FOSAD expresses deep concern over reports of widespread vote buying and financial inducement witnessed during the electoral process. Such practices, the Forum notes, undermine the credibility of elections and erode public trust in democratic institutions. The commercialization of the ballot, if left unchecked, threatens to replace merit and genuine civic participation with corrupt patronage and transactional politics.

As an intellectual community, FOSAD emphasizes that democracy thrives not merely on the casting of ballots but on the sanctity of the process. Vote buying represents a direct assault on democratic values, disenfranchising citizens who lack financial power and weakening accountability mechanisms that ensure good governance. It is, therefore, imperative that both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant law enforcement agencies investigate these reported infractions and take decisive action to deter future occurrences.

The Forum also calls on political actors across Anambra State and the South-East to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, peace, and collective responsibility. Elections should never be a do-or-die affair but a democratic opportunity to renew the social contract between the government and the governed. The post-election period must therefore focus on healing divisions, fostering inclusivity, and consolidating gains for the socio-economic transformation of the state.

FOSAD further urges Governor Soludo to deepen his ongoing reforms in education, research-driven policymaking, and youth empowerment—areas that have significant potential to redefine governance in the South-East. The Forum reiterates its readiness to collaborate with his administration through knowledge exchange, policy research, and evidence-based recommendations that can strengthen institutional performance across the state.
In conclusion, while congratulating Governor Soludo on his electoral victory, FOSAD reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting democracy, good governance, and intellectual integrity in the South-East and Nigeria at large. The Forum stands firmly against the monetization of politics and urges all stakeholders to recommit to the ideals of a fair, credible, and transparent electoral process.

PoliticsOmobarca Felicitates Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituents On The New Month Of November by uzorathena(op): 11:08am On Nov 01, 2025
Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency as they usher in the new month of November, expressing optimism for progress, peace, and unity across the community.

In a goodwill message released on Friday, the philanthropist and stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) wished his constituents happiness and success in all their endeavours, while reaffirming his commitment to grassroots empowerment and community development.

“Dear good people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency,

As we step into this new month, I want to greet you all with warmth, love, and encouragement. May this month bring you happiness, progress, and countless blessings in every aspect of your lives,” OmoBarca said.

The ADC leader called on residents to remain united and steadfast in the collective pursuit of a better and more prosperous Ajeromi-Ifelodun, stressing that unity and perseverance are the cornerstones of sustainable development.

“Together, we have the power to shape a brighter future for our community. Let us stay united, focused, and resilient in the pursuit of development and peace. Your voices matter, and your aspirations are my mission,” he noted.

Hon. Chima, who has earned widespread recognition for his philanthropic outreach — particularly in youth empowerment, widow support, and community development — urged constituents to embrace hope and collective effort as the path to achieving lasting change.

“As we continue to work hand in hand, we will overcome challenges and achieve the change we desire. Let this new month be a reminder that in unity, there is strength; in perseverance, there is progress; and in love for our constituency, there is boundless potential,” he said.

OmoBarca reaffirmed his dedication to transparent and accountable leadership, assuring constituents that he remains deeply committed to representing them with honesty, integrity, and passion.

“I remain committed to representing you with honesty, dedication, and passion,” he said. “May God bless Ajeromi-Ifelodun and each of you abundantly.”

Over the years, OmoBarca has been at the forefront of several social initiatives in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, including free healthcare drives, youth skill acquisition programs, market women empowerment, and religious harmony efforts that unite residents across ethnic and faith lines.

As November begins, his message of unity and renewed hope resonates with many constituents who see in him a symbol of service-driven politics and community solidarity.

“With love and solidarity!” his message concluded, reinforcing his trademark emphasis on compassion and shared progress.

The people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, observers note, have come to identify OmoBarca’s leadership with practical compassion, grassroots engagement, and a consistent drive to make governance people-centered — qualities that continue to endear him to both young and old across the constituency.

PoliticsPolitics Is Not For Selfish Gain, It Is A Tool For Service, I Am In It Because O by uzorathena(op): 6:28pm On Oct 30, 2025
I am in politics to serve, not to enrich myself - OmoBarca

Philanthropist and ADC stalwart Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, speaks on his commitment to service, empowerment, and unity in Ajeromi-Ifelodun

For philanthropist and community leader Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, known across Lagos as OmoBarca, politics is not a means to personal wealth but a platform to serve humanity. In this exclusive interview, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stalwart discusses his record of empowering widows and youths, promoting religious harmony, and his vision for a united and prosperous Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

“My love for people is what drives everything I do. I was helping long before politics . Politics only gives me a wider platform to do more.”

Championing Widows and the Less Privileged

OmoBarca’s humanitarian work began long before he joined politics. Known for his consistent support for widows and the less privileged, he says helping others is his calling.

“Some people want to set up their own businesses but lack the funds, and God has used me to help some of them,” he said.
“The widows especially need help, and God is the husband of the widows. I do more charity work for them than for the youth. I give them food regularly and financial support to grow their businesses. The widows know that OmoBarca takes good care of them — you can ask them to confirm.”

A Political Journey Rooted in Faith

Speaking about his political path, OmoBarca said joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a divine direction.

“I am in ADC now because that is where God has directed me to be,” he stated.
“Our prayer is to be among those who will repair this country. Whatever God gives us the power to do, we will do it well.”

He added that his track record of youth empowerment will continue if given the opportunity to serve officially.
“I have done a lot for the youth, and if elected, I will do even more — and do it well,” he said.

Service to Ajeromi-Ifelodun

OmoBarca insists that his work for the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun predates his political ambition.

“The things I have done for my people were not because of politics. My love for people is what drives everything I do,” he explained.
“Now that I am in politics, it is an opportunity to do more. When I call the people to come out and vote, they respond because they know my record. That’s why my name is well known — OmoBarca.”

“If they ask who has done the most for Ajeromi-Ifelodun, I should be number one — not because I am proud, but because I have served faithfully.”

Inspiring the Youth

Beyond philanthropy, OmoBarca sees youth empowerment as the foundation of community development.

“I always tell the youth that if they don’t work, they won’t eat. They must be willing to work hard,” he said.
“There is nothing God cannot do, and He never forgets those who work diligently. I have been working, and so have they, and I believe God will remember Ifelodun.”

Preaching Unity Across Tribes and Faiths

Known for his inclusive style, OmoBarca says he does not believe in tribal or religious politics.

“I am not a tribalistic person. I bring everyone together — Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba — as long as you are a Nigerian,” he said.
“My politics is for the masses. Many people think all politicians are liars, but that’s not true. I have been serving people long before politics, and I continue to do so with humility.”

A Calling, Not a Career

When asked why he joined politics, OmoBarca said it was simply an extension of his humanitarian work.

“I joined politics to have a bigger platform to do what I’ve always done — serve people. I don’t want the youth and children of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to suffer what we suffered,” he said.
“I am not in politics for selfish reasons. Some politicians come into it for their own gain, but I am in it to serve.”

“Politics is not for selfish gain. It is a tool for service. I am in it because of my people.”

Overcoming Opposition

OmoBarca has faced resistance from political rivals, but he says his focus remains on service.

“I have faced opposition since joining this race, mostly from people who don’t like the good I’m doing,” he recounted.
“One serious incident had to be resolved by our leader, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. They tried to paint my name black because of their selfish interests, but God has been faithful. The same people who fought me know the good I’m doing.”

Promoting Religious Harmony

OmoBarca is well known for his generous support of all religious communities.

“I celebrate every religion — Islam, Christianity, and traditional faiths. I support all and do what God gives me the power to do,” he explained.
“During Ramadan, I slaughter one cow each day for 30 days so people can eat. From 2015 to 2023, I’ve sponsored between eight and seventeen people each year to Hajj — even when I was dragged to court, I still sponsored 17 pilgrims.”

He also supports Christian communities with food, donations, and sponsorship of church programmes.
“For Christians, I give out numerous bags of rice and support church programs. I also do things for traditional rulers and Obas quietly because I believe in unity and respect,” he said.

Empowering Traders and Supporting Health Initiatives

OmoBarca’s philanthropy extends to the health and business sectors.

“In the health sector, I’ve done a lot. There was a woman who lost her baby and was detained in the hospital because she couldn’t pay her bill — I paid it,” he said.

“For market people, I have empowered traders in Boundary Market — pepper sellers, palm oil sellers, and others. I’ve also helped with signage and billboards in the markets. I visit them personally because I believe in connecting with the people directly.”

A Final Message to the People

As the 2027 elections approach, OmoBarca urges residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to take their civic responsibility seriously.

“I am pleading with my people to go and get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) — everyone from 18 years and above — because their votes count,” he said.
“I can never deny my people. If they vote for me, I will not disappoint them. I am doing politics to help the masses. I love my people, and by God’s grace, we will continue to build Ajeromi-Ifelodun together.”

PoliticsTrump, Soyinka, Reagan, Márquez, And Clinton: When Nobel Laureates Collide With by uzorathena(op): 11:31am On Oct 30, 2025
By Dr Uzor Ngoladi

In a move that has drawn wide public attention, the United States, under the administration of President Donald Trump, revoked the visa of Nigeria’s literary giant and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. For many across the globe, this decision evoked both shock and irony, that a man whose voice has echoed for decades in defense of freedom, democracy, and human dignity would face such a restriction from a nation that prides itself as the bastion of liberty.

Yet, as history shows, this is not the first time that America has turned its back on intellectuals whose ideas challenge power.

At 91, Wole Soyinka’s name is synonymous with literary brilliance and fearless advocacy. The first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, Soyinka has been a global ambassador of truth, unafraid to speak against tyranny whether military or democratic. His works such as The Man Died, Kongi’s Harvest, and Death and the King’s Horseman are not just art; they are timeless indictments of oppression.

But Soyinka’s activism has often put him at odds with the powerful. During Nigeria’s military dictatorship, he was imprisoned for 22 months under General Yakubu Gowon for advocating dialogue during the Biafran War. In exile, he continued to speak against authoritarianism across Africa and the world.

That such a man — a teacher, thinker, and defender of justice — would have his U.S. visa revoked under Trump’s America is both symbolic and telling of the ideological tides that swept through Washington during that era.

The incident mirrors a historical precedent from the 1980s, during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Then, another Nobel Laureate, the Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez, famed author of One Hundred Years of Solitude, found himself banned from entering the United States.

Márquez’s “offense” was his political affiliation and friendship with revolutionary figures such as Fidel Castro of Cuba. The Reagan administration, steeped in Cold War paranoia, saw Márquez not as an artist, but as an ideological adversary.

Yet, history turned. When Bill Clinton became president in 1993, the U.S. government reversed its position. Márquez, once deemed a threat, was not only welcomed back but invited to the White House to dine with the president himself. The same writer who was ostracized under one administration became a guest of honor under another.

What these two episodes — Soyinka’s visa revocation and Márquez’s travel ban — reveal is a recurring tension between political power and intellectual independence. Writers and thinkers often stand at the crossroads of politics and morality. Their words transcend borders, their influence often unsettling to governments that view dissent as danger.

For Trump’s America, whose policies on immigration and international relations were defined by nationalism and populism, Soyinka’s intellectual cosmopolitanism and outspoken views may have seemed inconvenient. His criticisms of Trump’s politics particularly on racial issues and global leadership were public and pointed.

Yet, the irony is unmistakable. The United States, a nation that honors the likes of Mark Twain and Maya Angelou for their courage to speak truth to power, was silencing one of the world’s greatest literary voices — not through censorship, but by closing its doors.

Across history, governments democratic and autocratic alike have sought to suppress thinkers who challenge the status quo. In the 1950s, American playwright Arthur Miller faced persecution during the McCarthy era for his alleged communist sympathies. In apartheid South Africa, writers like Nadine Gordimer and Dennis Brutus were banned for their anti-regime writings.

In every age, the writer stands as society’s conscience, holding a mirror to power. Soyinka, like Márquez before him, belongs to this lineage of intellectuals whose moral courage transcends politics.

To revoke a visa is not merely to deny entry; it is to symbolically shut the door on dialogue, exchange, and understanding. Yet, as history has shown, such acts seldom diminish the power of ideas.

When Gabriel García Márquez was banned, his books continued to be read in universities across America. When Wole Soyinka was silenced by Nigeria’s military dictators, his words still found their way into the hands of readers and students who drew inspiration from his defiance.

Soyinka’s own response to adversity has always been one of calm resilience. “Even this,” he might say, “shall pass.” The winds of politics change, but truth endures.

Lessons from the Past
The Clinton-Márquez reconciliation holds a vital lesson. Political climates shift. What one government deems “undesirable,” another may celebrate. The same America that once blacklisted intellectuals like Charlie Chaplin and Paul Robeson later honored them posthumously.

Thus, Soyinka’s visa revocation, though regrettable, may someday be reversed perhaps under a future administration more tolerant of critical voices. Indeed, given Soyinka’s global stature, it is likely only a matter of time before America reopens its doors, if only to affirm its own democratic ideals.

Through all seasons of censorship and exile, Soyinka’s pen has never faltered. His essays, poems, and plays continue to confront the forces of corruption, bigotry, and injustice. Whether in Nigeria, the United States, or on the world stage, Soyinka remains a citizen of the world — bound not by passports, but by principles.

The revocation of his visa is therefore not a personal loss, but a moment of reflection for America — a reminder that democracy must be defended not only at home but in the spirit of global intellectual exchange.

For Soyinka, the struggle for human dignity transcends borders. His life’s journey from the dusty streets of Abeokuta to the world’s grandest literary stages is proof that ideas, once born, cannot be contained.

And so, just as Reagan’s ban on Márquez gave way to Clinton’s embrace, Trump’s America may have turned its back on Soyinka but history, as always, will turn forward.

For a nation that once welcomed Albert Einstein, Maya Angelou, and Chinua Achebe, it is unthinkable that Wole Soyinka teacher, poet, conscience of Africa should be unwelcome. But the tides of politics are transient. The arc of history bends, inevitably, toward justice and enlightenment.

In the end, Soyinka’s words, not his visa status, will endure. The classrooms, libraries, and minds he has shaped across continents stand as living testaments to a truth larger than any border control that ideas cannot be deported.

Yes, even this too shall pass.

FOSAD Commends National Assembly for Approving Additional State for the South-East, Urges Stakeholders to Unite Behind an Economically Viable Option

The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has commended the Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Constitutional Review and State Creation for its recent resolution approving the creation of an additional state for the South-East geopolitical zone.
In a statement signed by the, Dr Stephen Nwala, and Secretary General, Dr Uzor Ngoladi, FOSAD described the decision as “a bold and historic step toward correcting the long-standing structural imbalance in Nigeria’s federal system.”
According to the Forum, the South-East has, for decades, remained the only geopolitical zone in the federation with five states, placing the region at a disadvantage in federal representation, resource allocation, and infrastructural development.
“The decision of the National Assembly’s Joint Committee is a welcome development that restores a sense of fairness, justice, and equity to the people of the South-East. For too long, our region has borne the weight of marginalization in the structure of the Nigerian federation,”
the statement read.
FOSAD therefore called on all stakeholders including governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and socio-cultural groups to take full advantage of this national opportunity and speak with one united voice in recommending a single, economically viable and politically strategic 6th state for the South-East.
The Forum noted that several proposals have emerged over the years, including Aba State, Adada State, Anioma State, Etiti State, Njaba State, Orashi State, and Orlu State, each backed by strong historical and socio-economic justifications. FOSAD, however, emphasized that unity of purpose remains the most critical factor in ensuring the successful realization of this goal.
“This opportunity calls for collective reasoning, not competition. We must avoid unnecessary fragmentation and work together to present a consensus proposal that reflects the aspirations and economic potential of the South-East,”
FOSAD urged.
The Forum further highlighted the need for stakeholders to prioritise the economic viability, population strength, cultural cohesion, and infrastructural readiness of any proposed state. It maintained that a data-driven approach anchored on long-term sustainability should guide the selection process.
FOSAD also reiterated that the creation of a 6th state would not only strengthen Nigeria’s democracy but also deepen national unity and foster balanced development across the regions.
“A 6th state for the South-East is not just a regional demand; it is a national necessity. It symbolizes inclusivity and will ensure that no region feels left behind in the evolving Nigerian federation,”
the statement added.
The Forum expressed appreciation to the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly the Joint Committee on Constitutional Review and State Creation, for responding to the long-standing yearnings of the South-East people. It also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration to give speedy consideration and assent to the constitutional amendment process once it reaches the executive stage.
FOSAD concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting all lawful and constructive efforts that promote justice, unity, and development in the South-East and Nigeria at large.
“History beckons on us to act in unity and wisdom. The creation of a 6th state in the South-East will mark a new chapter of inclusion, opportunity, and progress for our people. FOSAD stands ready to work with all stakeholders to actualise this dream,” the statement concluded.

PoliticsFOSAD Condemns Assaults On Journalists During #freennamdikanunow Protest, Deman by uzorathena(op): 11:08am On Oct 23, 2025
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) condemns in the strongest terms the reported assaults on journalists who were covering the peaceful #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held recently in Abuja. The attack on members of the press, whose professional duty is to inform the public, represents a grave assault on press freedom, democracy, and fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

According to verified reports, several journalists from reputable media houses were harassed, beaten, and had their equipment confiscated by security operatives while performing their legitimate duties. Such actions are both unlawful and unacceptable in a democratic society that claims adherence to the rule of law and respect for the rights of citizens.

FOSAD views these incidents as symptomatic of the growing intolerance for dissenting voices in Nigeria and a dalngerous descent into authoritarian tendencies. Freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest are cornerstones of democracy, not privileges to be granted at the discretion of state security agencies.

We recall that the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest was organized by civil rights groups and concerned citizens demanding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in prolonged detention despite several court rulings ordering his release. Rather than address the legitimate grievances of the protesters, security agents reportedly responded with intimidation and violence — a development that has further dented Nigeria’s human rights record before the international community.

FOSAD is deeply concerned by reports that Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, and his lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, were arrested and are currently detained at Kuje Correctional Facility following the protest.

The Forum unequivocally demands their immediate and unconditional release, as there is no legal or moral justification for their continued incarceration. The arrest and detention of individuals for exercising their constitutional rights to free speech and peaceful assembly constitute a gross violation of human rights and an affront to the principles of justice.

We remind the Federal Government and security agencies that no democracy thrives on the suppression of legitimate dissent. The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu and the harassment of his associates, lawyers, and supporters only deepen feelings of alienation and resentment among citizens of the South-East, thereby aggravating tensions in an already fragile federation.

We also remind the Federal Government that the continuous disobedience to court orders on Nnamdi Kanu’s release undermines public confidence in the justice system and erodes the moral authority of the state. The rule of law cannot coexist with selective obedience or political interference. The government must demonstrate that no individual or institution is above the law.

The Forum expresses solidarity with members of the Nigerian press who remain committed to truth-telling despite threats and intimidation. We urge the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), civil society organizations, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to speak out strongly against these abuses and ensure that journalists are protected in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

The media must remain free to report events without fear of reprisal. Any attempt to silence journalists is an attempt to silence democracy itself. FOSAD reaffirms its unwavering belief that information and civic engagement are vital instruments of development, peace, and justice.

As scholars and advocates of equity, justice, and national transformation, FOSAD reminds the Federal Government that lasting peace in Nigeria cannot be achieved through force, intimidation, or suppression. It can only be built through dialogue, inclusion, and justice.

The case of Nnamdi Kanu has long transcended personal or political interests — it has become a test of Nigeria’s commitment to human rights and federal fairness. The persistent refusal to obey court orders and the brutalization of peaceful citizens send a disturbing message that justice is negotiable. This perception must be corrected immediately if national unity and trust are to be restored.

PoliticsHon Francis Barthlomew Chima (omobarca) Congratulates Ajeromi Ifelodun Constitue by uzorathena(op): 10:36am On Oct 01, 2025
As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, extends his heartfelt congratulations to the resilient people of Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency and Nigerians at large.

OmoBarca described the anniversary as a moment of sober reflection and renewed commitment to the ideals of unity, peace, and progress that the nation’s founding fathers envisioned. He praised the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian people, who despite daunting challenges, continue to strive for a brighter future.

“On this occasion of our 65th Independence Anniversary, I felicitate with my constituents and all Nigerians. Our journey has not been without trials, but the courage and perseverance of our people remain the bedrock of our nation. I urge us all to keep faith in Nigeria and work together towards building the country of our dreams,” OmoBarca said.

The House of Representatives hopeful further commended the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, for his recent visit to the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, where he sympathized with business owners affected by the recent wave of demolitions. OmoBarca noted that Obi’s action demonstrated empathy and leadership, qualities Nigeria needs at this critical period.

“Mr. Peter Obi’s visit to the Trade Fair Complex reflects genuine concern for the plight of ordinary Nigerians. At a time when many families and businesses are facing hardship, leaders must show solidarity with the people. His gesture is worthy of emulation,” OmoBarca stated.

He called on government authorities to balance urban development initiatives with the protection of citizens’ livelihoods, stressing that policies should prioritize human dignity, economic growth, and social justice.

PoliticsHon. Francis Barthlomew Chima (omobarca) Joins ADC, Declares House Of Reps Ambit by uzorathena(op): 1:01am On Sep 14, 2025
Lagos, September 13, 2025 – The political landscape of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency has taken a new turn with the formal defection of Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The event, which drew a large crowd of party faithful, community leaders, and supporters, was held in Ajeromi-Ifelodun on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

The ceremony was graced by prominent national figures, including the National Secretary of the ADC, Hon. Rauf Aregbesola, and Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate. Their presence underscored the significance of OmoBarca’s entry into the party and the party’s broader ambition to expand its influence in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, OmoBarca declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency. He emphasized that his political aspiration is driven by a deep commitment to empowering the people of his constituency, improving grassroots development, and ensuring that federal representation translates into tangible benefits for his constituents.

“I am stepping into this race with the sole aim of empowering my people in Ajeromi-Ifelodun,” he stated. “I want to see a constituency where youths have access to jobs and skills, women are supported in business, and children have better access to education. That is the kind of representation I intend to bring to Abuja.”

In a candid remark, OmoBarca also appealed to political opponents to allow the will of the people to prevail at the polls, rather than resorting to post-election litigations. He stressed that his ambition is rooted in service and urged for fair competition.

“I want to win this election on the strength of the people’s support. I don’t want any contestant to drag me to court if I emerge victorious. Let us respect the mandate of the electorate and focus on building our communities together,” he said.

Hon. Rauf Aregbesola, while welcoming OmoBarca into the ADC family, described him as a grassroots politician with proven philanthropy and a track record of community service. He assured party members that OmoBarca’s entry would strengthen the ADC’s chances in Lagos State, particularly in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, which has long been a political stronghold of other major parties.

On his part, Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour praised OmoBarca’s courage and consistency in advocating for community empowerment. He urged residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to rally behind the ADC candidate, adding that credible representation at the National Assembly is crucial for grassroots development.

The event also witnessed the formal inauguration of OmoBarca’s campaign team, with hundreds of supporters pledging loyalty to his candidacy. Party members described his move as a “game-changer” that could redefine electoral outcomes in the constituency.

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, political analysts suggest that OmoBarca’s entry into the ADC could introduce a fresh dimension to the political dynamics of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, where competition for the House of Representatives seat has traditionally been fierce.

With his popularity at the grassroots, combined with the backing of national party leaders, OmoBarca’s declaration sets the stage for an intriguing contest in one of Lagos State’s most politically vibrant constituencies.

PoliticsWAEC Certificate Forgery: Petitioner Decries Silence Over Former Rep Member Rita by uzorathena(op): 11:22pm On Sep 12, 2025
The lingering controversy surrounding the alleged forgery of a West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate by a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rita Odichinma Orji, has resurfaced following concerns raised by the petitioner, Mr. Uche David Esomonu, over the slow progress of investigations.

Hon. Orji, who represented Ajeromi–Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State between 2015 and 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arrested by the Nigeria Police on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Her arrest stemmed from allegations that she presented a forged WAEC certificate during her tenure in the Green Chamber. After making an initial statement, little has been heard of the matter, leading to speculation that the case may have been deliberately stalled.

Speaking on Thursday, Mr. Esomonu expressed shock that, despite what he described as “overwhelming evidence” against the former lawmaker, the case appears to have been swept under the carpet. He accused the police of selective justice and called for renewed action to restore public confidence in the institution.

“I wonder why this case has been swept aside despite clear evidence. The Nigerian Police must restore their dignity by reopening the case file and pursuing it to its logical conclusion. I will not relent until justice is served,” Esomonu stated.

It will be recalled that a High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, had earlier ruled that Hon. Orji has a case to answer. Delivering judgment, Justice Kawu Bello held that the Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate petitions brought before it, in line with Section 200 of the Constitution. The court consequently dismissed Orji’s attempt to halt police investigation and ordered her to make herself available for questioning.

The petitioner noted that, while the police had swiftly handled other cases involving certificate forgery and impersonation, the Orji matter had curiously stagnated. He cited the recent case of one Engineer Chukwubuike Azubuike, who allegedly paraded himself falsely as the “Obi of Lagos” while attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public of N1.5 billion under the guise of building a palace and hosting a new yam festival. Esomonu argued that if such cases could receive prompt attention, the matter against Hon. Orji should not be treated differently.

Court records indicate that Orji, upon being petitioned, initially resisted police invitations for interrogation. Instead, she approached the High Court seeking an order to restrain the police from investigating her, citing the need to protect her fundamental human rights. However, the court dismissed her suit and directed her to cooperate with law enforcement.

Despite these legal pronouncements, the petitioner insists that no meaningful progress has been made since her arrest. He warned that silence on the matter could encourage impunity and erode trust in Nigeria’s justice system.

As the controversy lingers, public interest in the case remains high, particularly within Ajeromi–Ifelodun, where Hon. Orji once wielded significant political influence and even contested again in the last general elections. Stakeholders are watching closely to see whether the police will revive the investigation or allow the matter to fade into obscurity.

PoliticsObi Of Lagos: FOSAD Supports Southeast Traditional Rulers, Calls For Arrest Of I by uzorathena(op): 8:43pm On Sep 12, 2025
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has expressed its full support for the recent position of Southeast traditional rulers condemning the unlawful practice of individuals styling themselves as “Eze Ndigbo” or “Obi” in cities outside Igbo land.

In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Stephen Nwala, President of FOSAD, and Dr. Uzor Ngoladi, Secretary General, the forum described the practice as a distortion of Igbo cultural heritage and a deliberate affront to the authority of legitimate traditional institutions in Igbo land.

According to the group, traditional rulership within the Igbo cultural space is deeply rooted in ancestral authority, community consent, and historical continuity. It therefore cannot be replicated or assumed arbitrarily by individuals in diaspora communities for personal gain, social status, or political influence.

“This trend of self-styled ‘Eze Ndigbo’ or ‘Obi of Ndigbo’ in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and other parts of Nigeria is a clear misrepresentation of Igbo tradition,” the statement read. “Such practices not only confuse the younger generation but also diminish the dignity of authentic royal institutions in the Southeast.”

FOSAD urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to enforce the resolutions of Igbo traditional rulers by arresting and prosecuting individuals who parade themselves under such false titles. It emphasized that respect for cultural institutions is essential for national harmony, and no ethnic group should permit distortions of its heritage outside its homeland.

The forum noted that while the Igbo community thrives in various parts of Nigeria and the world and contributes significantly to economic development, representation of Ndigbo in host communities should be through town unions, cultural associations, and duly constituted leadership structures, not through illegitimate coronations.

“True leadership among the Igbo in diaspora is earned through service, integrity, and accountability, not by purchasing titles or assuming crowns that do not exist outside Igbo land,” the forum stated.

FOSAD reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the cultural integrity of the Southeast and called on all Igbo sons and daughters to uphold the values of their forebears. It further appealed to state governments in the Southeast to continue working with royal fathers in preserving and promoting the dignity of authentic traditional institutions.

“The position of our revered traditional rulers is non-negotiable,” the statement concluded. “FOSAD stands firmly with them in preserving the sanctity of Igbo culture and calls on security agencies to put an immediate stop to this illegality.”
