airsaylongcome:It was a different era if I must say...recruitment has come a very long way and at the time , I reckon that was the best approach for large scale basic competence testing at the time. My first test was at the ICC in Abuja...there was almost a stampede at some point and if not for my sister, I would have just gone back home due to the size of the crowd. |
Larynxfc:During my time, the first stage was a paper-based WAEC exam. The second stage was another paper-based test, this time an SHL assessment with multiple sections, before candidates moved on to the Assessment Centre. |
JobsLever:Let me guess someone promised you 20% of their first salary ![]() |

Machiavelli27:Not every question needs to be answered literally. Sometimes, you are expected to fill in the gaps and draw a reasonable inference. It is the same logic as prompt engineering with generative AI: The clearer the context, the sharper the response. In this case, operators and technicians work shift-based schedules. The ongoing recruitment is for Graduate Trainees who will typically work normal office hours. Also, until late last year, there was no land route into Bonny Island. That context matters. So, for non-shift employees, the inference should not be difficult. ![]() |
Machiavelli27:The Corporate Head Office is situated in Port Harcourt, while the Plant is located on Bonny Island. The Head Office Annex is located in Abuja. |
Atomemmy:Probably the downside of herding folks into whatsapp groups...gatekeeping helps no one. Those that went ahead did a great service by documenting the process in the public domain. |
On some other platforms, you can be banned for redirecting users to continue the conversation on a different platform. Anyway join any whatsapp groups you want to join at your own peril... |
Abduleeda1:Congratulations....one more stage to go. All the best!! |
airsaylongcome:I never got to meet Kuwena in person, but I did run into Opoks during my first week - guy was working just nearby. Funny enough, a lot of us from that original “Which Way NLNG” thread are still solid till today. Real ones. |
Nabzi6:When people ask what I do for a living, I usually start with, “I work for a gas company.” Then I release information in phases, depending on how inquisitive they are. It is a simple survival strategy really. You limit information for your own good - security, black tax, and unnecessary overfamiliarity. At some point I started saying, “I work with models,” because, as an economist, that is technically true. Unfortunately, one day at a dinner party, an aspiring fashion model heard that and locked into a very enthusiastic conversation with me. Somewhere in the middle of it, I had to clarify that I meant economic models. The disappointment was immediate. |
Abduleeda1:I really like the way you are approaching the process. Wishing you all the very best. In my time, there was no previous recruitment process to reference, as my set was the first to document the experience publicly, specifically on Nairaland. |
Jobbernath:The 2007 GT recruitment was the first thread on Nairaland to cross 100 pages. |
Higherupgrade:There are times on public forums when the burden is on readers to read between the lines of the original post. Unfortunately, I can only respond based on information already in the public domain, particularly where you may not be aware of certain facts or may have been given inaccurate information. If you read my post again in that context, you may better understand the point being made. |
JobsLever:FOLLOW AT YOUR PERIL!!! |
cally10:Merit based recruitment....beware of any who say they can 'help' you with a 'connect' |
LincolnOnyeabor:I studied Economics...Economics is both an Art and a Science ![]() Two factor authentication ![]() |
Higherupgrade:There are more than a few dollarised statements here that are false. |
Every time I return to this thread, JobsLever somehow manages to lower the bar even further. Anyone serious about progressing beyond the next stage, if successful, should prepare independently rather than rely on the poor-quality spiegel he keeps peddling. I am here strictly for the comedy, so please DO NOT direct any questions at me. I will NOT be responding. I was just as green as anyone else when I showed up late to my assessment centre in 2007. I have shared that story before. Since then, one lesson has stayed with me: when preparation meets opportunity, results follow... #MeritOnly |
JobsLever:Where do you get your info from? You sound like you use generative AI to come up with responses to make yourself look smart or informed. Caveat: All I will say is that while this account has shared some helpful 'general' information, take anything that sounds company specific with a pinch of salt. |
If you join a private whatsapp group and get scammed, please don't come back here to cry....in my time Nairaland was all we had and it served a good purpose. |
Stargurl20:1. I came to tell of a story from 2007 2. I spoke of 3 stages [obviously I must have passed at least one to progress to two other stages] 3. I said what worked for me 4. I gave advice Make of this what you will. |
Stargurl20:What do you think? ![]() |
I don't there is a magic formula that works for everyone. Some people recommend long periods of preparation, while others swear by quick-thinking shortcuts. For me, what matters most is staying calm, relaxed, and clear-headed, so you can answer questions quickly and correctly without guessing or panicking as the clock starts to run down. On a lighter note, I remember my experience in 2007. I had flown into Abuja from Lagos late the previous night for the first test, where we literally had to fight our way into the ICC because of the sheer number of applicants. I was completely exhausted and actually fell asleep between sections since it was a paper-based test. A fellow test-taker could not believe his eyes and kept berating me for “wasting” a golden opportunity. I went in with zero preparation and carried the same attitude into the second test and, eventually, the assessment centre in Lagos. I even arrived late for the assessment centre after first forgetting to make copies of my documents and then getting lost in Lagos Island. I barely made it in time for accreditation ![]() One thing I will say is this: follow the rules and do your best. 🙂 |
Jeboy:My first application was January 2022 with Visa Approved in April 2023. I was issued with a 9 month visa due to my passport nearing expiry. I reapplied in February this year after visiting Canada last year and I was issued a visa in July 2024 to expire February 2032 which is when the biometrics from my previous visa application expires. |
Richdiamond000:Booking of appointments is very straightforward...you're beter off doing it and you can be in and out in under 20 minutes. I only submitted consent letter the first time I did biometrics...if your biometrics are still valid no need for consent letter. Just come with two copies of your passport, your appointment letter, and your passport request letter. |
Submission Confirmation - February 13, 2024 Final decision - July 18, 2024 Original Passport Request - July 19, 2024 Passport Submission - July 31, 2024 Passport Returned via DHL - August 2nd, 2024 Biometrics were previously captured in February 2022 as this is a renewal on a new passport. Previous application was submitted in January 2022 with visa issued in April 2023 for 9 months ![]() |
Please can someone remind me where to drop the passport for VISA stamp after recieving a the original passport request. I can't remember where I submitted for my last visa whether it was at the VFS or at a Courier. THanks |

Good luck to all those going to the assessment centre...you're the cream of the crop! |
