Politics › The Language Of Oza-nogogo by valirex(op): 10:38am On May 18, 2020 |
Today, the people of Oza-nogogo speak a language called “Oza”. Oza-nogogo is one of the communities in Agbor in Ika South Local Government Areaof Delta State in Nigeria. The origin of the language “Oza” is more recent than the history of the Oza-nogogo people. Earlier in history, the people of Oza-nogogo spoke Edo –the language of the Benin people. As they continued to interact with other neighbouring communities in the Agbor Kingdom, certain serious linguistic changes took place. The language”Oza” emerged. Oza is a hybrid of two languages –Edo and Ika. Edo is the language of the Benin people, while Ika is the language of Agbor and Ika people. Sometimes, people refer to Oza as a dialect of Edo. Although there is no gainsaying the fact that Oza is “Edoic”, it is also true that it is “Ikaic”. See for example, the word “person”. The Oza word for “person” is a hybridof Edo and Ika. English- person Edo- ovwan Ika- ihian Oza- ovwan-ihian(now rendered avwinhian) From the above, it becomes very clear that Oza is a hybrid of two languages, andnot a dialect of any language. To enrich its vocabulary, however, it draws from Edo and Ika languages. For example, Oza-nogogo peoplebear Edo names like: Otabor, Aigboje, Aigbogun, Edobor and so on. They also bear Ika names like: Uche, Ebonka,Dumbiri, Chukwuma, to mention but a few. |

babestella: So what’s your point? You reject them and want them to be landlocked, but you are telling them air cargo as an alternative is way too expensive. You have continued to dance to the tune of those who don’t want south to unite, but till date, is south better off? Let’s agree that Igbos would be landlocked, if everyone eventually be on their own, won’t you grant the Igbos access to the seaport? Don’t you know it would also be a source of revenue to SS? Or will you chose to remain under one Nigeria that'll pillage your land to build the north and continue to share money to their people. What you saw in this covid19 wahala, is it not enough message to you? How many people on the south got any substantial help or palliative from FG?
My brother, it will be good if south unite Andy form a commonly front, Terms could be discussed, we will don’t do that, we will remain a conquered region to Fulani Herdsmen.
I might not love Biafra o, but I think every region can discuss how we can divide this country and let’s all have peace. Nigeria is not definitely a place where any sane man would love to live, trust me, it’s absolutely chaotic here both at citizen Andy Federal Government level. I agree with you, I have been clamouring for this too but you need to see Igbos marginalizing my people with Yorubas and saying trash about ijaws taking lands from my state which only makes us antagonize them everywhere. |

Igbosmoker: i completely understand all what you said.. but you know politics changes people!
Many of the areas you called Edo, even though they were once Edo but they are now saying the need to be left alone, so I'm not bothering myself about them.
As for Edo north and esan creating their own state, do you know that was the original plan they had before Edo state was created? They changed their mind at the last minute.
I know many ipob are using esan anti benin stance and it's working. I joined their Facebook group and most believe they are "superior" to Benin, they are even spreading that Benin people including oba originated from esan.
I'm completely fine with just Edo south to stand alone if needs be.

davidnazee: Well said.. No need to talk too much.. Edo will NEVER be part of Yoruba or any other entity.. Delta can join Biafra if they wish to, Edo is strong and good on its own. All we probably need is an access to the sea and we can take a part of Delta for that.. So Edo may end up sharing Delta with Biafra.. Yeah right but we won't force the itesekiri to come with us because we want see access, that would make us like ipobs. We already have access to sea through Gelele and Ughoton |

OgboAto: Interesting. I should also add that the Yoruba leaders of thoughts, particularly in the traditional circles, are mostly done with the Bini and want nothing to do with them. As it stands, Igbo land is in Edo state and that will be taken by the Igbo; Ijaw land is in Edo and must be taken by the Ijaw. Whatever is left of the Bini can either form a sovereign state or hop into the sea at Ughoton port. Come take am we dey wait you |

Malawian: This one dey try grab Edo people to join him Oduduwa republic. Like i have said before, Yorubas will not have the Hausa-Fulani to hide behind to do shit. It really makes me laugh realizing the Yorubas think they can or will subjugate the Bini. Same Bini people who ran a recognizable empire for centuries? this is the people who you think will be politically under you? Ok na. You will just manage to hand them another empire on a platter, one which they will never reliquish. Ever wonder why they are claiming Igbanke people or Anioma people who obviously, even to the blind, are Igbos? They still have designs for an empire. Take a good look at the Fulani modus operandi and look again at that of the Bini. Bro you know us too well , I can't deny that . Leave those Yorubas to deceive themselves. We can't be made or forced into their Oduduwa. But as for the anioma people they are free to go |

Koyo. Well even among a family some are still different. Edos are already clamouring to leave Nigeria so I guess you should support it but if you rather support biafra I can't force you for it's your choice. Eberejesus111: Good, but if peradevnture they do secede. Look at the balance, do you want to secede and secede again, and continue seceding till nothing.
If you're seceding based on the ego that "we are the best, and we can handle ourselves" it's foolish. But if you're seceding, only for the reason to make a good change for your citizens, then that's good.
Ego is good as deemed fit, but have you weighed the pros and cons. Weigh them with all the suggestions I gave above and tell me what you think? I have weighed the pro and cons and the pros out weighs the cons. There won't be more seceding if we go with just homogeneous Edos |

But on the issue of ethnic warfare, Nigeria is to be blamed for this. Every kid that is born in this country is first loyal to his tribe before his country. Yeah true |

Eberejesus111: Now do you know US isn't literally a country per say. US... Look at it U-United S-States A-America
Now the words we would be using here is United and States. US is a combination of different countries or states coming together to form a nation, a country (all made in agreement).
In the US, there are poor states, like I mean poor states and there are rich states. Each complements each other. For example, California has majority of the resources and is the tech capital of the country, New York is the financial capital, Pennsylvania and a majority of the Yankee north are the industrial places, Louisiana, and most southern states are farming places and it goes on and on. Ohio is a state or country that is poor, so the government supports it with other poor states.
United states is almost similar to the now United Nations.
Europe saw this and copied the united states, this is why they made European Union, even starting off with their own currency to tighten the bond and make them a full-blown state or country. Europe where the first to think about such union, although United states practiced theirs, but it was spontaneous for the United States.
Now even in Europe they still complement each other, in a very healthy way.
If some states leave, there is a great tendency some would become quite poor, and depend on internationalal help. This is the reason I made the suggestion of a confederate southern state as above. We don't need to call it Biafra or Oduduwa republic, or even Niger-delta republic. We can all come together and make a name that speaks prosperity. Bro you should never decide for a people, Biafra and Edo are tired of this contraption. It's only logical you let them go. Telling us stories just to hinder us is selfish . The European Union you talk about hasn't Britain left it? |

You guys need need to undastand lostz point of view. Fact is Lostz is speaking from an isoko perpective of the supposed marginalization and relegation of the isoko people by the then midwest region cum bendel state which benefited the benins and urhobos the most because of their population. So whenever you make reference to urhobo, itsekiri or anioma people for instance which dominated the politics of bendel state and try to lump isokos and urhobos together to buttress your point you wont get anywhere with the arguement because isokos dont see themselves as urhobos. I also understand that as Benin Sons you guys are having a had time deciphering the rationalism for the divorce between isokos and urhobos because you feel as people who migrated from benin and settled in delta state it makes sense to you for us to live together in peace and harmony. This is daylight dreaming, the fact on ground is isoko is a different ethnic group on its own & urhobos have accepted dat reality Another point proven, we will never try to marginalize anyone. Most of us from Edo even want an Homogeneous nation of just Edos |

Like i said before, if it were within my power, let everyone go their own way but i know the so-called SS will be divided cos some will surely want to be part of biafra due to their true origin and history. All this talks online are just bants, the true players don't have time for this. I like your reasoning, but you need to see Igbos marginalizing us with Yorubas.
