I lived in Russia half of my life and every TV station dedicates at least 2 hours to mock how dilapidated US infrastructures are. Russians think of America as a corrupt shit hole. It's clear you have never interacted with a Russian in real life.

I do read a bit of English translations of German texts, and can not fail to see how so much more developed German thought is than English. Just being able to read Kant and Heidegger and Jung in German would have immensely pleased me, but I'm left reading English translations. It would have been worse however, if I were monoglotted to read only my mother tongue, as that would definitely have left me with not so much knowledge since no one has bothered translating Jung and Kant and Heidegger into Yoruba yet.

If I were to start all over, German is a language I'd have learnt, along with the three you mention plus Igbo and Hausa too, and Latin. Unfortunately, as it is, I'm just far too lazy to bother now.

in my college, student with English background were forced to study German communication in our first year and likewise student with German or french background were forced to learn English communication, despite this , I still perform terribly poor. I think to be good in German you have to learn it early enough , maybe from age four precisely. Learning at older age takes a lot of mental strength.


I will consider myself a polyglot anyway. I speak Yoruba , Hausa , Twi (A popular language in Ghana) fluently. Likewise a bit above average in English language . I am not raised in the UK like you .

Despite my strong criticism of USA for trying to be the police of the world, I think Russia really needs to be checkmate thoroughly if you understand the terrain there and their global activities. The inhumane treatment and a very nauseating attitude towards humanity. Russia needs to be checked. Excessive power is never good for them, they will misused it and run everyone down , Soviet union is a great case study.

I don't see why English should be discouraged, and actually think it is silly to try. Here in UK, students are encouraged to learn multiple languages instead, which is much more beneficial than learning only one language.

I had my nieces over for Christmas and was teaching the youngest to read in English, and had to teach her Yoruba ABD to help with her pronunciation.

Yes being a polyglot speaks intelligence. Particularly when is about learning viable languages ( English, mandarin and Arabic. This three language are currently feasible and can work out in practice.

English is indeed our next mother tongue

Get me right , in about the next fifty years , the majority of Nigerians will have English has their first language. It will be their mother tongue, why ? Because that is what their mother thought them.

If you decide to attract a global audience, write it in your native language and see who will read it.

All the African country that speaks other languages apart from English , have you read or heard about them. For example, do you know the current news trend in cape Verde or Angola that speaks Portuguese ? But we can easily talk about south Africa , Ghana since we can access information from their end because they speak a language that attract global audience.

Woe betide you if you are colonized by the Portuguese, which audience will you attract . We are safe , we inherited a global language . English.. that enables us access to great information and we can think big ideas and talk big talks.


That is what enables scholar like wole Soyinka or business guru like alhaji Dangote etc to be well centered on a global stage .

In real practical sense , most of us do not read history or care about it.

Do you know the biggest or the most prominent language 2000 years back ? It is actually Latin. That was a language of the Roman empire, the Roman empire rules everywhere, everybody spoke latin,if it was your mother tongue , you will be happy but now latin is dead , I mean it is dead. The natural cause of human history is languages dies when there is no enough human to speak it . A language must have commercial power to survived.

Some of our local language will die because they are not viable , Do you know the kind of your local language your ancestors spoke a thousand years ago? Even if you think it is the same Yoruba , Igbo or Hausa , do you think it sounds exactly the same as that of your ancestors a thousand years back? Languages are very dynamic in nature .

We end up speaking all kinds of things , the important things is, we should speak the language that makes us think clearly and exposed us to all kind of rich resources that will expand our knowledge. When will says English is a foreign language, it is inconsistent, because the same English is our official language. So how can a foreign language be an official language? It simply means we are officially forieng. That is illogical.

We have spoke English for nearly more than 100 years now, all of our textbooks , our legislature, our laws, our newspaper are writing with English and still we still maintain is a foreign language, when will it become native? When ? Even the British people , the English they are speaking now is not their language, it is Germanic, the British has their own anglo language . Infact only few words are left . The rest of the English now is a mixture of Saxon, french and German. If you go a thousand years now , the people of England, if they speak English you won't understand.
