I have not seen any Nigerian PhD. student given a Visa valid for more than 2 years. So, I think that is the norm for Nigerians. However, my friends from Ghana pursuing their PhDs have their Visas valid for four years.

If you want to get a Yellow card so that you can feel you're not missing anything as you travel, go get it at public health centre close to you. It is N2500 or so, and I took one early this year at Health Centre Ikeja, not so far from the international airport. Just get it if you can.

It is not advised to go to the embassy without full funding for PhD to cover almost everything or everything.

Because the cost is always huge.

Your main issue is the fund.

What if the PhD programme is 6 years, should the funding cover the 6-year duration or just the first year for a start?
