This is one sad news I hate breaking. Stage 4 Ovarian cancer patient Mayowa Ahmed has passed on this afternoon August 21st in a South African hospital . Mayowa’s plight came to light when actress Toyin Aimakhu pleaded with Nigerians to raise money for her treatment and over N100million was raised in a few days.

Controversy later trailed the money raised and after the case was investigated by the Police, she was flown to South Africa on the 11th of August.

When the news first broke on social media, it was greeted with disbelief until her brother, tweeting from @Asiwaju_foye, confirmed it in a series of tweets.

He wrote, “By Allah in whose hands our lives are, Mayowa Ahmed has left us in this world. We pray that jannat becomes her home. She tried but God’s will prevailed.”

Already, hours after news of her death filtered in, a hashtag #RIPMayowa started trending on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, all social media platforms.

I don’t know about you but i am pretty excited about this year’s Toronto International Film Festival especially as TIFF chose Lagos for its “City To City” spotlight. What this means is that 8 movies – The Wedding Party, 93 days, The Arbitration, Okafor’s Law, 76, Green White Green, Just Not Marriedand Taxi Driver – will premiere at the international film festival.



The lineup showcases gutsy new works by contemporary directors living and working in one of the world’s biggest film industries. It’s a huge opportunity for Nollywood to showcase the Nigerian movie industry as a fast-growing sector in the economy and The 41st annual Toronto Int’l Film Festival runs Sept. 8 to 18, 2016.

Nollywood veteran actress and youth advocate, Hilda Dokubo, is popular for her soft and usually sorrowful roles in movies but not many people know that she is a mother to 53 children even though not all of them are her biological children.

Hilda revealed this recently during an interview which Punch newspaper where she spoke on many topics regarding her life including her lover for acting, teaching, holding a political post, her childhood, marriage and more.

When asked how she gives back to the society, she said: “I do this through trainings. I have 50 kids who are not my biological children. I have three biological children, but I’ve adopted 50 others.

Pretty Nollywood actress cum producer, Chioma Okoye was attacked at her home on Saturday, August 13, by four ladies led by a woman who alleged the movie producer made a movie out of her life. The women allegedly threatened Chioma’s life and promised to be back if she did not take down contents from her popular drama series “Lagos Men” currently making waves on her recently launched online platform. The drama series is said to be partly fictional and partly true life stories.

The woman and Chioma Okoye met three years ago through a mutual friend. The woman had been invited to Chioma Okoye’s house for drinks and after a couple of shots opened up about the chaos in her marriage. Exposing how her husband constantly sexually harasses her underaged daughter to the point of getting her pregnant at some point. The woman sought Chioma’s help as an entertainer to expose her unrepentant husband’s evil deeds as she was tired of fighting him over it.
Chioma had advised her to seek help from Child Protection Services but that as an entertainer would use her voice as an artiste to expose the deed. This happened in 2014.

The Nollywood Living legend revealed the number of instances where misinformed and malicious statements were attributed to him, including rumours that his son died on a movie set.

The actor disclosed this in an interview published by Punch News on Saturday, August 13, 2016, where he mentioned that he has numerous Facebook and Twitter accounts to his name.



“Right now, I’m watching football in my house, but as I speak to you, some people are posting on Facebook or Twitter, using my name and picture.”

“It’s either they are talking about politics, state of the nation, ascribing series of proverbs to me or using my name to counsel people about marriage.”
