(PDP leadership said on)Sunday that it was disappointed with the outcome of the governorship election in Edo State.

The party said it thought its candidate, Gen. Charles Airhiavebre(retd.) would be able to defeat the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Comrade Adams Oshiomole in the election,which was conducted on Saturday.

It said it received the result of the election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which declared Oshiomhole the winner, with mixed feelings.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, nevertheless called on supporters of the PDP to accept the outcome of the election.

He said, “While we await the reports of our monitors in different locations in the state in order to determine our next course of action, we commend the people of Edo State for their enthusiastic participation in the exercise.”

The statement said the PDP in the course of its campaigns told the people that its entry into the race was not a do-or-die affair.

It said it did its best to provide a credible alternative to the people of the state.

Metuh said the PDP shared their (the people of Edo) hope for a re-entry into the main stream of Nigerian politics.

He said, “However, to our disappointment, the results as declared by INEC did not go our way.

“As a party that respects the institutions of democracy, and in demonstration of the spirit of sportsmanship which is the acclaimed principle of the PDP under the leadership of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, we call on all our supporters to accept this results as declared by INEC.

“We congratulate the winner for this victory.

“This is however, without prejudice to our right to seek redress if we observe from our field reports any foul play.

“We therefore urge our supporters to remain calm,law abiding and resist any temptation to take the law into their hands.”

jude33084: Oredo is where INEC HQ (EDO) is located and some wards didn't start their accreditation on time (UBTH ward started at abt 11 am) meanwhile Edo centre(Anenih's) zone started on time and Adams was in Edo north and he got the report at abt 12:30pm and you expect him nt to raise alarm?

New Era college ward got fake accreditation voters register without pictures; that I saw with my eyes and it was iNEC chairman Edo state that came to resolve it.

Some of my friends didn't vote because their name didn't tally with the one on their card bt voted in last presidential election

After several hours of silence, the Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Major General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd) on Sunday said he would not congratulate Governor Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on his re-election.

Airhiavbere who polled 144,235 votes said Oshiomhole had earlier faulted the electoral process before his declaration by the same body on Sunday.

In a chat with journalists on Sunday night at his Benin residence, Airhiavbere who thanked the people for their support during the election said it could have been easy for him to congratulate Oshiomhole but that Oshiomhole pre-empted the system that brought him.

He said, “I won’t fully comment on the election because the acclaimed winner had earlier in the day about 1pm condemned the electoral system. He condemned the chairman of INEC for the process that has not ended”.

“That process at the end of the day declared him the winner. I will observe in the next few days before I make my comment.

“The election of yesterday (Saturday) has come and gone. I want to seize this opportunity to thank all the people of Edo State for coming out en masse to make yesterday’s exercise the most peaceful election ever experienced in Edo State. I also want to thank them for keeping faith with me. I want to seize this opportunity to PDP faithful for coming to support me.” Airhiavbere stated

Gbawe: My brother, we hope so. Let them do it early and many of us will work for them for free - and even commit our personal resources to deposing the PDP. This is not about money because it is only the vacuous and shallow fellow who sees money which will be ultimately worthless in a failed Nation.

Gbawe: Oshiomhole deserves the iconic support he enjoys. How many like him do we have in Nigeria? I.e brave men who challenged murderous dictators for the greater good of society ? Oshiomhole is not perfect but he loves his people and is committed to doing the best for his State. Edo politics will truly be about progress when the likes of Anenih pass on and stop frustrating the efforts of leaders who have rejected their redundant politics of elitism and lootocracy.

This speaks exactly my mind. As a Nation, we do not require perfection in leadership but a commitment to positively alter d course present quality of governance. That's what Tinubu did and passed on to Fashola, that's what Aregbesola is doing in Osun, that's what fayemi, Ajumobi and Amosu are poised to do and that's what is playing out in Edo under Oshiomole.

The "politics of elitism and lootocracy" was responsible for d PDP Clan shoving d deception that dev. was imposible in Edo, down d throat of d people. They were going to ensure d status quo subsist but a man "committed" to turning the negative tide arrived and he's making all d difference not only in governance but also in goodwill. Just look @ d result so far......... PDP will have to write an entirely diff result to rig this election successfully
