Romance / Do Guys Still Toast? by vernalsage(m): 9:10pm On Jan 13, 2009
Come to think of it, the whole idea of toasting (roasting, or propositioning) ladies has taken a downward trend. I mean gone r the days of love letters, thinking up newer exotic lines to woo ladies etc. These days people tend to just make friends and take it to the next level. Or maybe its just me. Guys what do you think? Ladies, what have you noticed?

INTERNET SECURITY
With the advent if fbt, zainab, em em s and the like guys, you have to watch your back on the internet.
Here are some of the tips i can think of for now:
1. Dont download files you don't need (simply because you're browsing free)
2. Don't click ok if a pop-up window tells you your system is infected and that you should download so and so cleaner or scanner, na adware, backdoor or trojan dem wan install for your system.
3. You can read jokes and the like on webpages if a pop-up window offers you a joke download, RUN.
4. Avoid (or at least be careful) around porn sites or crackers sites
5 Be very careful when downloading a program's crack, google the name of the file before downloading, if possible find out what other people say about the site(using google)
6. Avoid free offers (NIgerians!!!) You are the 1000000th visitor and the like
7. If you are not sure about a file, google it
8. Owo ti n ro mi (yor)

4. How do i know its a virus?
a. Ask me again, na me and you dey use the system?
b. If the file is not yours and its not your girlfriend's what's it doing there? (caveat: this does not apply to internet folders that attach to saved webpages o, hmn hmnn
c. If it has a strange extension for example a 'folder' having a .exe extension or being described as an application
d. Be wary of strange filename like 'lovesms' 'date' 'beauty' and so on especially if you're sure you did not put it there
e. Be wary of files with exe or vbs extension or txt files named 'autorun' , if you like you can open the autorun.txt file and see information about how the virus will behave
f. A very useful program is usb disk security. Try to download it

THE FLASH: YOUR SAVIOUR AND YOUR SYSTEM'S NEMESIS
In campus (or some workplace) environments internet use is kinda minimal, so the main culprit in the transmitting of 'viruses' is the vector called flash 'drive'. Since it is indispensable no matter how 'evil', the following tips should come in handy.
1. NEVER- I REPEAT- NEVER DOUBLE-CLICK ON A FLASH TO OPEN IT. If there is a virus there it will be launched and therefore infect your system, Instead, right-click on the flash and click open or better still explore or even better, click the pull-down button on the right hand of your address bar in the My Computer window, when you see your flash name, clickon it (you might have to scroll down)
2. Go to Tools> Folder Options>View,
a. click on the bullet-Show Hidden files
b. UNCHECK 'Hide Protected Operating System Files'
3. Step 2 will enable you to see all files in the flash including viruses. Simply delete the virus manually and you're good to go
4. How do i know its a virus?
2 be cont.
Computers / Re: Virus 101: Your online Antivirus Manual by vernalsage(m): 11:31pm On Jan 06, 2009
c. In most cases you'll see the file and all you have to do is delete it (caveat: be sure of what you're doing, if you delete a system file, )
d. After deleting the file, Using Tune-Up Optimizer's startup manager or Windows defender (vista users) block the virus from starting up with the system (remember, you already know the name)
e. Using your system (or tune-up's) registry editor, search for the filename of the virus. Delete it anywhere it occurs (caveat: registry editing should be left for the gurus and the adventurous ones)
f. Restart your system and you should be good to go
g. Always make sure you have a restore point in case of problems
h. Restore points are also invaluable in dealing with some types of 'virus'. In short restoring to an earliar date when your system was healthy could be the solution to your pc's present problem
i. Guys its your turn,

I am going to kick it off by giving some tips about manually removing virus from your system. This could be a bit lengthy and windy but please bear with me as i'm typing directly from memory.thanks.

>BENCHMARKING
1. From time to time, when your p.c. is in perfect working condition, get familiar with the processes running under your username in (the processes tab of) task manager.
2. Anytime you suspect a virus attack, simply check your running processes (if you can't access task manager as is often the case, download tune-up optimizer), if there is any unusual process, google it, if google says its a virus, write down the name of the process.(If one process appears more than once eg if you have EXPLORER.exe and explorer.exe running at the same time, USUALLY, the capitalized one is a virus)
a. End the process in task manager
b. Using advanced seach options to enable searching of HIDDEN FILES and SYSTEM FILES, search for the filename of the virus
2 be continued,

Romance / Re: Beyonce's If I Was A Boy Does It Say What Women Really Are? Or What Men Are ? by vernalsage(m): 9:28pm On Jan 06, 2009
Beyonce is simply telling guys to see things from ladies' perspective. Society makes a hero-a don juan- out of a guy that's hugely successful with ladies while a lady exhibiting the same behaviour is called a SLUT, LovePeddler or is simply regarded as CHEAP. This mentality has embedded itself into our psyche. Beyonce's song simply brings us back to earth. This is one song we really ought to think about while doing our thing. Of course ladies are no saints either.

Guys, I've been using the MTN fbt but now with Zainab, my phone browser works, opera doesn't. I've tried 2.06, 3.10, mopera all 2 no avail. What should i do?
Phones / Re: >>Opera Mini<<< by vernalsage(m): 1:12pm On Jan 04, 2009
@ ricard. Are u sure you have the MTN settings? Check whether your phone browser can connect using the internet button on the keypad. If it can't download mtnproxy from sharemobile(check this thread) and install it on your phone.its a jar file. As per the java settings, it should be under internet settings under connectivity. All the best.

Computers / Re: Your First Day With The Computer: What Happened? by vernalsage(m): 10:01pm On Dec 25, 2008
Oh. It was my neighbour's computer and we had been warned that computer viruses are carried by dirty feet and all(i was like 11) so naturally i went but only after the neighbors had gone 2 church(i was entrusted with their keys)
I switched d system on and proceeded 2 toy with the mouse. My favourite activity was dragging and droppin desktop icons(win 95 i think) By the time i was done marveling @ this magic my neighbor's car was back. Alas i did not know how 2 shut d pc down. I was so scared. I eventually went with d time honoured tradition of pulling d plug. I then bolted out through d kitchen door @ d back cos by this time i could hear d key in d lock. It was a helluva adventure.
