EducationTinubu, Tetfund Power FUT Ilaro With 1.6MW Solar Project, Enhanced Campus Securi by VeronExtra(op): 2:04pm On Jul 06
The Federal Government, under the leadership of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has taken another bold step in strengthening technological education with the commencement of a project site for the procurement and construction of a 1.6MWp/1.5MWh solar mini-grid at the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The infrastructure development comes alongside a major security upgrade on campus, as the university management simultaneously commissioned and donated a newly constructed Police Post to the Nigeria Police Force to secure the academic environment and its host community.

The landmark solar project, which will occupy approximately three acres of land, is designed to provide stable electricity for teaching, research, innovation, and other academic activities.

The sustainable energy upgrade will further accelerate the institution's ongoing transition into a premier University of Technology while drastically reducing its dependence on the national grid.

As part of the commencement process, officials from TETFund—Arc. Ekpenyong Nsa Ayi, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim, and Arc. Zaharadeen Ahmed Sale—formally introduced the project consultants and contractors from Zango Corporate Innovation Limited to the institution's management team.

Among those introduced were Engr. Omofuma O., Bamigbose M. A., and Kolaru Oluwatosin E., who will be responsible for the successful execution of the mini-grid.

Speaking during the presentation, the Rector and Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA, FCTI, ACS, described an uninterrupted power supply as the backbone of technological advancement.

He emphasized that modern research and student innovations cannot thrive without reliable electricity.

Dr. Akinde expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, and all other key stakeholders.

FUTI's Director of Physical Planning, TPL Femi Ajayi, and the Chairman of the TETFund Energy Audit Committee, Engr. Omolola S.E., assured the incoming contractors of maximum cooperation, promising a peaceful and enabling environment throughout the installation phase.

Recognizing that academic excellence and stable infrastructure require an absolute atmosphere of safety, FUT Ilaro paired its green energy drive with the launch of a newly constructed Police Post.

The facility was officially commissioned on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Asade Agunloye IV, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, represented by the Secretary of the Olu-in-Council, Chief Ayo Dawotola.

Chief Dawotola commended the university's management for the impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, noting that the post will deepen the cordial relationship between the institution and Yewaland.

Dr. Akinde reaffirmed the university's unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and properties, stating that the Governing Council regards campus security as a priceless investment.

According to the Rector, parents and guardians entrust the university with their children, making the provision of robust security infrastructure a fundamental institutional responsibility.

The Rector extended his appreciation to the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, for his pivotal role in facilitating the project, while acknowledging the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for approving the establishment of a Squadron Command within the institution to further reinforce campus safety.

The newly commissioned Police Post is expected to improve rapid emergency response and strengthen collaboration between national security agencies and the school.

Senior police officers, including Area Commander ASP Bamidele Job and Squadron Commander Biliamin Katibi, formally received the facility on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force.

In her vote of thanks, the Registrar of the University, Mrs. A. F. Babatola, conveyed the institution's sincere appreciation to President Tinubu, TETFund Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono, and the university community.

She reaffirmed the institution's determination to protect the new assets, describing the dual achievements as a major milestone in FUTI's journey toward becoming a leading global University of Technology.

Christianity EtcPrimate Ayodele Gives Out Fully Furnished House, Seven Vehicles To Church Member by VeronExtra(op): 10:21am On Jun 29
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has gifted a fully furnished house, seven vehicles, and several other items to members of the church as part of activities marking the church's 2026 mid-year thanksgiving programme.

The unprecedented event took place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, leaving many of the beneficiaries in shock, as they had no idea they would receive such life-changing gifts from the renowned prophet. Although Primate Ayodele is known for his generosity and philanthropic acts, the scale of the gifts presented during the programme surpassed the expectations of everyone in attendance.

One of the beneficiaries attended the service with his wife in a modest salon car, never imagining that he would return home with a brand-new Toyota SUV. Before presenting the vehicle, Primate Ayodele tested the couple by asking them to make a small donation to the church. After they complied, he returned the money to them, added more to it, and then surprised them with the keys to the SUV. The couple was left speechless, overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.

Another recipient was not a full member of the church but had maintained a close relationship with Primate Ayodele and had consistently supported the ministry. Interestingly, he had previously received a car from the prophet years ago.

During the programme, Primate Ayodele called him out from the congregation and asked for the keys to his car. Without hesitation, he handed them over. The prophet immediately instructed that the vehicle be given out as an empowerment gift to another member of the congregation.

While the young man was still trying to process what had just happened, Primate Ayodele presented him with the keys to a newer Toyota vehicle. He had arrived at the programme in an old car but returned home in a newer one—a surprise that left both him and the congregation in awe.

In addition to the church members, two pastors were also rewarded with vehicles. One received a Mercedes-Benz, while the other was presented with a Lexus SUV.

Beyond the outright gifts, Primate Ayodele also introduced an empowerment raffle. Anyone who had N1 million was entered into a draw to win a vehicle worth about N7 million. Four participants emerged as winners, and each went home with a different vehicle.

The biggest surprise of the day, however, was reserved for the church's second-in-command.

To the amazement of the congregation, Primate Ayodele presented him with the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of a fully furnished house in Lagos. The announcement stunned the entire congregation, with many left visibly speechless by the magnitude of the gift.

The prophet's generosity extended far beyond vehicles and houses. As part of his popular subsidy market initiative, essential food items were sold at heavily discounted prices to ease the burden on members and residents. A bag of rice sold for as low as N30,000, cartons of Indomie noodles were sold for N4,000, while loaves of bread went for just N1,500, among several other subsidised items.

Students from schools across Lagos State also benefited from the programme. Widows, elderly people, traders, church workers, and many others received various forms of financial support and empowerment, further reflecting Primate Ayodele's commitment to humanitarian service.

Indeed, June 28, 2026, will remain an unforgettable day for the beneficiaries, many of whom described the occasion as the day God remembered them through the ministry of Primate Elijah Ayodele.

PoliticsInside Npa's ₦256bn Spending Plan: Dredging, Consultancy Costs Raise Fresh Accou by VeronExtra(op): 2:11pm On Jun 23
Fresh questions are being raised over the spending priorities of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) following the emergence of a document circulating in the public domain that calls for closer scrutiny of several budgetary allocations under the agency’s management.

The document, obtained by SecretReporters, makes a series of allegations concerning the administration of the NPA under its Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and urges anti-corruption agencies as well as the National Assembly to examine a number of high-value expenditure items contained in the Authority’s budget. An analysis of the document highlights concerns over hundreds of billions of naira earmarked for dredging operations, environmental sanitation, consultancy services, vessel waste management, hotel accommodation, conferences and media-related activities. The allegations raise questions about whether the scale of the proposed expenditures reflects value for money and whether sufficient public documentation exists to justify the allocations.

Among the figures cited are proposed allocations of more than ₦115 billion for the Lagos Channel dredging project, over ₦119 billion for Bonny Channel dredging, and more than ₦22 billion for vessel waste reception and management. The document also questions consultancy fees running into hundreds of millions of naira for projects relating to access roads, leased land administration and information technology upgrades. Budget and maritime sector experts note that agencies such as the NPA routinely oversee capital-intensive projects requiring significant funding. Dredging, channel maintenance and navigational safety operations often involve specialized equipment, technical expertise and international contractors, making them among the most expensive components of maritime infrastructure management. However, transparency advocates argue that the magnitude of the expenditures warrants an equally high level of public disclosure.

According to governance experts, Nigerians have a right to know the procurement methods adopted, the identities of contractors engaged, project milestones achieved, independent valuation reports obtained and the measurable economic benefits expected from each expenditure. They contend that proactive disclosure of such information would not only strengthen public confidence but also reduce speculation surrounding the management of public funds.

The Nigerian Ports Authority has, however, firmly rejected allegations of wrongdoing linked to its budgetary and procurement activities. In an official statement issued in May 2025, the Authority described allegations of corruption surrounding its operations as false, misleading and lacking credibility.

The NPA maintained that its budgets and expenditures are subject to multiple layers of oversight, including reviews by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Budget Office of the Federation and the National Assembly. The Authority further stated that its procurement processes, including dredging contracts and marine equipment acquisitions, comply with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act and are designed to enhance navigational safety, improve port efficiency and support national economic growth. Despite the agency’s rebuttal, governance analysts believe the controversy reflects a broader challenge confronting public institutions across Nigeria — the need for greater transparency in the management of public resources.

They argue that the routine publication of procurement records, contract awards, project performance reports, payment schedules, completion certificates and independent audit findings would help address public concerns before they evolve into larger controversies. Whether the allegations ultimately withstand scrutiny or not, the debate has once again drawn attention to the critical importance of transparency, accountability and timely disclosure in the administration of public funds.

As calls for greater openness intensify, attention is likely to remain focused on how public institutions justify major expenditures and demonstrate value for money to Nigerian taxpayers.

PoliticsLagos Seals I-fitness Gym Over Illegal Sewage Discharge In Lekki by VeronExtra(op): 12:52pm On Jun 23
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed I-Fitness Gym, located at Jakande Roundabout, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drains, an act the state government described as a serious environmental and public health violation.

The enforcement action was carried out on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, following the discovery that the fitness centre was channeling raw sewage through pipes into public drainage systems, thereby constituting a public nuisance, polluting the environment, and posing significant health risks to residents.

The development was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on his official social media page.
According to the commissioner, the state government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring compliance with proper wastewater management practices across Lagos.

He reiterated that individuals, corporate organisations, and business premises must strictly adhere to approved wastewater disposal regulations, warning that anyone found violating environmental laws would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution, in line with the state's enabling laws.

The Lagos State Government also urged residents and business owners to embrace responsible environmental practices to safeguard public health and maintain a clean and sustainable environment.

BusinessStorm Over Sterling As Experts Query Share Reconstruction, Warn Of Potential Sha by VeronExtra(op): 1:44pm On Jun 18
Stakeholders in the nation’s capital market have queried the Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc’s share reconstruction exercise, which is on a 10 for 1 basis as they fear values may be eroded in this process, if not well managed.
Share reconstruction, sometimes referred to as share consolidation, does not alter the total value of an investor’s holdings immediately after implementation.

On his part, the founder of Okwudili Ijezie & Co. (Chartered Accountants), Chief Blakey Okwudili Ijezie said, the reconstruction raises concerns about long-term shareholder value..

“Any day I hear a company is reconstructing shares, I become cautious. The share price may initially rise after reconstruction, but it will eventually return to where performance justifies it, ” he pointed out.

Ijezie argued that, reducing the number of shares does not automatically create value for investors. “If the financial performance does not improve significantly, the market will eventually adjust the price accordingly, ” he stressed.

He added that, investors with large holdings would see their share counts reduced substantially while relying on market performance to preserve value.

Similarly, pioneer Registrar of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR), Dr. David Walker Ogogo said, boards typically evaluate numerous strategic considerations before approving such major corporate actions.

‘For any board to come up with such a decision, they must have looked at the pros and cons thoroughly, ‘ he noted. He suggested the reconstruction may be tied to broader strategic objectives that are not yet fully disclosed to shareholders. To him, “it may not look attractive from the outside, but the board may be considering factors that investors are not privy to.”

While Ogogo acknowledged that the move may not immediately align with shareholder interests, he added that, “It is definitely against the immediate interests of shareholders because shareholders naturally want returns as quickly as possible.”

However, he cautioned investors against panic selling, emphasizing that experienced boards generally act with long-term institutional objectives in mind.

Another expert, Dr. Ebo Ayodeji also observed that previous reconstruction exercises have often been followed by short-term price declines In most cases, there is usually a pullback after reconstruction, he said.

He explained that, reducing shares outstanding may improve per-share metrics and help stabilize volatility over time. To him, ‘ehat eventually drives the stock higher is not the reconstruction itself but strong financial performance and improved dividends. ‘

Recall that, this move, approved by shareholders at the firn’s 3rd Annual General Meeting(AGM) held on June 9, 2026, will see Sterling reduce its issued shares from 68.5 billion units to 6.85 billion units through a share reconstruction exercise, subject to regulatory approvals and confirmation by the Federal High Court.

Experts believe the reconstruction represents one of the most significant capital structure adjustments by a Nigerian banking group in recent years.

The development comes at such a time when Sterling is simultaneously seeking approval to raise up to $400 million through various debt and equity instruments, prompting questions about the timing and broader implications of the exercise.

Leveraging on precedence, market history suggests that post-reconstruction share prices often struggle to sustain the higher valuation levels.

Analysts say the success of such exercises depends largely on earnings growth, dividend capacity, and investor confidence rather than the reconstruction itself.

Foreign AffairsPrimate Ayodele Responds To Liberia’s President, Joseph Boakai Over Letter To FG by VeronExtra(op): 5:05pm On Jun 09
Founder and Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has reacted to reports that the Liberian government raised concerns with Nigerian authorities over his prophecies concerning Liberia and its leadership.

The cleric insisted that Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai should focus on addressing the challenges facing his country rather than criticising prophetic messages. He also declared that the President would not secure a second term in office.

Primate Ayodele's response followed reports that the Government of Liberia allegedly sent a letter to the Nigerian government expressing dissatisfaction with what it described as recurring negative prophecies about President Boakai, his administration, and the Liberian people.

According to the reported complaint, the prophecies, circulated through publications and videos, allegedly fuel anti-Nigerian sentiments among some Liberians and could threaten peace and stability in the country.

The Liberian government also reportedly accused the cleric of involving himself in the country's political affairs during the 2023 presidential election by publicly supporting one of the candidates.

While acknowledging Nigeria's commitment to freedom of expression and religious liberty, Liberia reportedly urged Nigerian authorities to exercise caution regarding statements made about friendly nations and to take appropriate action where necessary.

However, reports indicated that Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs distanced itself from the matter. The ministry reportedly maintained that the issue falls outside its constitutional and diplomatic responsibilities.

The ministry also emphasised that the Nigerian government does not censor citizens' views provided such expressions do not violate the law.

Furthermore, it reportedly described the complaint as a private matter and reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to its longstanding bilateral relationship with Liberia.

Reacting to the development, Ayodele defended his prophetic record and recalled his prediction of the defeat of former Liberian President George Weah during the 2023 election.

"I warned George Weah and told him that if the election went into a second round, he would lose. That prophecy came to pass," he said.

The cleric argued that his prophecies are not politically motivated. Instead, he described them as divine messages intended to guide leaders and nations.

Ayodele also questioned President Boakai's decision to focus attention on his prophecies rather than on governance and national development.

"You are talking when your country has serious issues to deal with. Instead of concentrating on Liberia's problems, you are analysing my prophecies," he stated.

Despite the controversy, the cleric maintained that he would continue to speak on developments concerning Liberia whenever he receives divine revealations from the throne of God.

He also issued a fresh prediction regarding President Boakai's political future.

"Don't worry yourself about a second term because you have already lost it," Ayodele declared.

The cleric reiterated that his prophecies serve as warnings and guidance. According to him, leaders who pay attention to divine counsel often avoid looming challenges, while those who ignore such warnings risk facing the consequences.

PoliticsEgunjobi's Petition Lacks Merit, Violates Due Process, Should Be Dismissed — Agb by VeronExtra(op): 2:12pm On Jun 05
Ahead of the 2027 election, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Agege Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly, Oluwagbenga Abiola, has urged party to throw out a petition by his contender, Kola Egunjobi for lack of merit and violation of due process.

He said Egunjobi's petition was a desperate and meritless attempt to mislead party leaders and distort the facts surrounding the recently concluded primary election of the party.

Abiola, in a statement on Friday, maintained that the claims contained in the petition by Egunjobi "are fictional, false, inaccurate, misleading, unsubstantiated, and amount to nothing more than the rantings of a sponsored political loser unwilling to accept the outcome of the party's internal processes.

"The so-called petition lacks compliance with basic institutional due process and fails to satisfy the minimum requirements expected of any serious complaint brought before the party," he said.

Egunjobi, a former council chairman, had claimed that he won the primary election.

However, Abiola, popularly called Agbelebu, argued that the petition violated the party's nomination guidelines governing House of Assembly primary elections and is equally inconsistent with relevant provisions of the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act.

"The petition does not meet the threshold of a complaint deserving of consideration by any serious institution. It lacks substance, lacks merit, and should be thrown out in its entirety," Abiola stated.

He maintained that the APC remains a party founded on rules, due process, and internal democracy, and therefore should not be allowed to be distracted by petitions that fail to comply with established procedures and legal requirements.

Abiola expressed confidence that the National Working Committee would carefully examine the issues around the primary election before arriving at a decision guided by the party's constitution, its guidelines, and principles of fairness and justice.

"This stunt will never work. Truth has prevailed, and no amount of misinformation or propaganda can change that fact," he said.

The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has reaffirmed that the Corps occupies a distinct and indispensable role within the nation’s security architecture.

Professor Audi stated this while declaring open a two-day strategic training workshop on the implementation of operational deliverables and research methodology. According to the CG, the NSCDC’s core mandates including the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, disaster management, intelligence gathering and community engagement, place it in a unique position that no other security agency can replicate.

“This programme is designed to drive the adoption of research methodology and digitalisation as critical enablers for achieving our operational deliverables, fully aligned with the Presidential Priorities,” Professor Audi explained.

He noted that the initiative underscores management’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity through innovation, technology, and evidence-based decision-making. The CG further stressed that contemporary security challenges demand analytical solutions, urging personnel to look beyond field competence and acquire the skills needed to identify problems, conduct research, and develop practical solutions.

“The knowledge gained must translate into visible, measurable improvements in service delivery across all formations of the Corps,” he added.

Earlier in the event, the Commandant in charge of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Commandant Peter Okloho, reminded participants that the Federal Government assesses the NSCDC strictly on its statutory deliverables. He charged officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their reporting following the training.

Similarly, the Head of the Critical Thinking, Research, and Innovation Unit (CTRIU), Dr. Ogunshola Folashade, observed that navigating today’s dynamic security environment requires a blend of field competence and critical thinking. She outlined the training’s scope to include implementation strategies for operational deliverables, research methodology, strategic communication, advanced report writing, and institutional best practices.

A major highlight of the workshop was the formal induction and administration of the Oath of Allegiance to newly appointed CTRI desk officers, conducted by the NSCDC Head of Legal Services, Commandant Bamiyo Akomolafe.

The two-day intensive training drew participants from all 36 state commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as representatives from all directorates, departments, and units at the National Headquarters.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by ACC Gever Victor.

BusinessCourt Slams Access Bank Over Unlawful Account Restrictions, Awards N16 Million D by VeronExtra(op): 8:36am On Jun 02
By Adeyemi Obadimu

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on the 1st of June 2026 awarded 16 million naira damages against Access Bank Plc for unlawfully placing post-no-debit restrictions on the accounts of some of its customers without sufficient legal justification in a suit marked FHC/L/CS/878/2023.

In a judgment delivered by Honourable Justice Chukwujekwu Joseph Aneke after considering the arguments of the plaintiffs and the defence presented by Access Bank, the court made several findings regarding the legality of restrictions placed on the accounts of the plaintiffs over alleged cryptocurrency-related transactions.

The judge held that the first plaintiff had no contractual relationship whatsoever with Access Bank and therefore could not maintain an action against the bank. Consequently, the bank was found not liable to the first plaintiff.

However, the court found that the second and third plaintiffs did not engage in cryptocurrency trading in Nigeria and that there was no valid basis for placing restrictions on their accounts merely because they had received funds linked to the first plaintiff.

Justice Aneke noted that the evidence before it showed that the first plaintiff conducted cryptocurrency-related business outside Nigeria, particularly in the Benin Republic, where such transactions were not shown to be illegal.

The court further held that funds transferred to the second, third, fourth and fifth plaintiffs were made for valuable consideration and that there was no evidence establishing their involvement in any unlawful cryptocurrency activities.

While reviewing the restrictions placed on the accounts, the court emphasized that banks are regulated by law in imposing post-no-debit restrictions and cannot arbitrarily freeze customers' accounts without proper legal authority. The court agreed that where there is a valid court order, financial institutions are obligated to obey such orders until they are set aside by a competent court.

In the case of the second plaintiff, the court found that Access Bank wrongfully maintained restrictions on his account despite the absence of any evidence linking him to cryptocurrency trading. The court consequently awarded 5 million naira as damages in her favour and ordered the immediate removal of all restrictions on the account.

The court also examined the circumstances surrounding the fourth plaintiff and described his situation as particularly unfortunate. According to the judgment, funds were mistakenly transferred into his account, and there was no allegation that he fraudulently obtained or utilized the money.

Although a customary court had merely ordered a reversal of the erroneous payment, Access Bank proceeded to place a post-no-debit restriction on the account without any court order authorizing such action.
Honourable Justice Aneke ruled that the restriction imposed on the fourth plaintiff's account was unlawful and awarded him N10 million in damages, while directing the bank to immediately lift the restriction.

Regarding the third plaintiff, the court acknowledged that an earlier court order had justified the initial restriction on the account. However, the judge observed that no evidence was presented showing that the plaintiff was being prosecuted for any criminal offence. Relying on the constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence, the court held that the continued restriction could no longer be justified.
The judge also noted that the fifth plaintiff was not involved in cryptocurrency trading and took judicial notice of the fact that the restriction on his account had already been removed.

In its final observations, the judge stated that no evidence was presented to show that Access Bank restricted the accounts of the affected customers based on suspicious transaction volumes. Rather, the restrictions were imposed solely because of alleged links to cryptocurrency transactions and purported court orders.

The judge subsequently awarded damages in favour of the affected plaintiffs and further ordered Access Bank to pay N500,000 each as costs to the second and fourth plaintiffs.

The judgment reinforces the principle that banks must act strictly within the confines of the law when restricting customers' access to their funds and that citizens cannot be punished through indefinite account restrictions without proper legal backing or proof of wrongdoing.

PoliticsFamilies Seek FG Intervention Over Alleged FRCN Land Encroachment In Ikorodu by VeronExtra(op): 3:17pm On May 25
Three families namely Adegbose, Oluodo, and Sekumade Royal Families have called on the federal government to intervene in a landed property scuffle involving about 106 acres in Ikorodu.

The families, accused FRCN of invading their properties with thugs and security operatives despite a court ruling that confirmed them as the rightful owners of the properties.

While speaking to journalists, Baale Taiwo Idowu from Adegbose Family explained that some families, who don’t have any share in the landed properties informed FRCN wrongly that they are selling government properties, which led to the government agency taking the matter to court.

Baale Taiwo narrated that they had already donated landed properties to the government years ago and there is an official government gazette that confirms the number of properties the government acquired among their properties.

He noted that at some point, the government agencies tried to possess some of the properties that were not part of the original acquisition but when the families approached the court, they ruled in their favour and asked the agencies to remain on the original acquired properties.

“Government collect 151.583 acres from three families but later, we discovered they were using other portion of the properties which wasn’t part of the acquisition and that’s why we went to court. When we went to court, the judge asked for the documents and asked them to remain on the original acquition while we were allowed to take over our over 106 acres. When we were given the judgment, we took the government gazette to surveyor general’s office. They did pillar on the government properties and it was differentiated.”

The traditional chief mentioned the families that informed the FRCN wrongly, explaining that they are doing that out of spite because they refused to join them in a suit some years back.

“Some police officers and some individuals named Asajan, Ajako, in conjunction with Wasiu Esinlokun, Seun Kalejaiye, Wale Shokunbi alleged have been disturbing us on our landed property.

“They don’t have landed property there, and we know they are involved because they have been in court for years about a landed property acquired by the government. They wrote to the court that they want our families to join them in the suit but we declined because it’s the government property. The court gave us ruling that our land is different from what they are fighting for.”

“After they gave us the ruling and freed us, they looked for what to do to ensure that the community that hosts our landed properties don’t know peace. They lied that we are selling government properties; they have written to several police divisions, and they even arrested some of those that we sold landed properties to and took them to Abuja. They couldn’t nail them for any crime and had to release them.”

The families further requested that the government enforces the court judgment so that those they sold land to will be able to work on them.

“What we want is the enforcement of the court judgement so that those we sold lands to can be able to use it. We want the government not to allow these miscreants have their way. We have gone to Abuja and the police have made us know that it is not their jurisdiction. We want the government to help us stop them.”

Reacting to the allegations, FRCN, in a statement signed by its Assistant Director, Legal, Hindu J. Abashiya, dismissed the allegations as “baseless, clearly false and totally unfounded.”

"The allegations, if truly made, by Sekumade, Adegbose and Oluodo families are completely baseless, clearly false and totally unfounded.
The Land in question was acquired by the Federal Government of Nigeria for FRCN Transmitting Station. The land, measuring 151.6 acres of land, was acquired in 1962, for Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, which took possession, fenced the Land and erected communication masts thereon. Some of the masts are still there till date".

"In 1974, the Federal Government acquired additional land for NBC in the same location and all the land were fenced together".

"The three families were duly compensated for this acquisition, based on the size of land acquired from each family".

CrimeNSCDC Shut Inner Galaxy Steel Factory After Infrastructure Theft Burst by VeronExtra(op): 11:35am On May 25
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has read a riot act to economic saboteurs and vandals across the country, stating unequivocally that there is no hiding place for vandals who prey on the nation's commonwealth and national critical assets. While addressing the media in his Abuja office, the NSCDC boss disclosed that; his leadership will smoke them out of their hiding spots and make them face the full wrath of the law.

He further disclosed that; the NSCDC has secured a sweeping court order and have sealed all operational branches of Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd nationwide for railway materials vandalism and other grave infractions. Issuing a strict directive to the Commandant in charge of the Special Intelligence Squad, Appollos Dandaura, the CG ensured that operatives maintain absolute diligence and professionalism throughout this high-impact operation, declaring that every single suspect found culpable in this bleeding of the nation’s commonwealth will face the full wrath of the law.

This landmark action follows the recent exposure of a highly sophisticated syndicate allegedly responsible for the systematic vandalism and theft of Nigeria’s critical public infrastructure, including railway lines, power transmission equipment and telecommunications assets, with authorities now linking the stolen materials to an industrial-scale recycling operation run by the steel companies and proceeds suspected of financing terrorist activities.

Armed with valid search warrants and the newly secured court order, operatives from the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad stormed the Birnin Yero facility in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where they recovered large quantities of railway sleepers, steel tracks and other vandalized infrastructure components, all of which have been officially secured and transferred to the Nigerian Railway Corporation to be preserved as vital exhibits for the impending prosecution.

According to confessions extracted from arrested staff, the syndicate operated a well-coordinated logistics network, routinely transporting vandalized national infrastructure from various attack sites to the company’s headquarters in Aba, Abia State, as well as to other branches, where the stolen steel was melted down in industrial furnaces and recycled into commercial products including nails, roofing sheets, and reinforcement bars sold to unsuspecting members of the public.

Suspects linked to the syndicate are now facing a raft of severe criminal allegations, including conspiracy to commit felony and theft, intentional endangering of the safety of persons traveling by railway, obstruction, injury, and damage to railway infrastructure, failure to give notice or information to a public officer, dishonestly receiving and assisting in the concealment of stolen property, and giving support and financing to terrorist groups for the commission of acts of terrorism.

Consequent upon the discoveries in Kaduna and further intelligence gathering, the closure and investigation orders have been extended to cover the headquarters of Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd in Ahala Ukwa Village, Umuahala Community, Obuzor Ukwu, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, as well as the northern hub in Tasha Rawayyah, Gusau, Zamfara State, along with all other branches and subsidiaries nationwide.

The NSCDC has formally summoned the Chinese nationals involved in the management of the industrial complex; however, they are yet to appear before investigators, raising potential diplomatic and legal complexities, though the CG reaffirmed that the NSCDC remains fiercely committed to reducing infrastructure vandalism to the absolute minimum.

The Corps expressed profound gratitude to the judiciary for the swift granting of these legal instruments, which prevented further interference with crucial evidence, and also commended the press for their vital partnership in shining a bright light on these economic crimes, ensuring transparency and public accountability. Members of the public are strongly urged to continue collaborating with the Corps by sharing credible, timely information to help bring an end to infrastructure theft across Nigeria.

…Foundation Touches Over 8,000 Women, Widows, and Youth in Ondo State…..

…Collaborates with International Partners for Free Skill Acquisition in Canada…

For Chief Mrs. Olajumoke Abegunde, the act of touching lives positively and contributing meaningfully to societal development is not merely a pastime but a deeply ingrained existential mandate. With unwavering gusto, she has remained faithful to this noble vision, championing the esoteric principle that cheerful giving and advocacy for the downtrodden are responsibilities too sacred to be left exclusively in the hands of the government.

This resolute philosophy has not only engendered transformative impact within her immediate locality but has also catapulted her onto the global stage. Recently, her passionate charitable exertions—executed both within and outside the shores of Nigeria—earned her prestigious international recognition.

A Legacy of Grassroots Transformation

As the visionary founder of the Jummy I Care Foundation, Chief Mrs. Abegunde has systematically dismantled barriers of vulnerability across Ondo State. Through sustained philanthropic gestures, she has disbursed extensive humanitarian relief and social assistance to over 3,000 indigent widows and elderly persons. In parallel, her foundation has galvanized robust support for orphaned and vulnerable children while orchestrating an ambitious women’s empowerment programme. To date, over 5,000 women have benefited from skills acquisition and income-generating activities designed to cultivate self-reliance and entrepreneurial audacity. Many of these beneficiaries have also received start-up seed capital to establish their own enterprises.

A proud alumna of Criminology and Security Studies from the National Open University of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Abegunde has also distinguished herself as a patron of youth development. She has sponsored numerous essay writing and entrepreneurship competitions across Ondo State, in addition to funding medical outreaches, orphanage interventions, Iftar and Easter entrepreneurship programmes, and sustained feeding initiatives for the less privileged.

Her core philosophy remains immutable: when those who are well-to-do invest strategically in their immediate society, the collective becomes safer, more stable, and poised for greater heights.

International Collaboration and Brampton Honour

In a decisive move to intensify her developmental footprint, the Jummy I Care Foundation recently entered into a strategic tripartite collaboration with the Habeeb Okunola Foundation and the MakeMee Elegant Foundation. Together, they delivered a gratuitous, high-impact skill acquisition training programme to residents of Brampton, Canada.

Participants were immersed in an array of artisan crafts, including the production of resin bags, photo books, picture otters, resin key holders and frame holders, ornamental flower vases, rhinestone embellishment, and the advanced technique of printing images on fabrics.

In a ceremonial recognition of her sustained benevolence, the Mayor of Brampton formally hosted Chief Mrs. Abegunde and her delegation at the mayor’s office. The mayor personally expressed profound gratitude for her unwavering support of community development and entrepreneurship. As a tangible emblem of this appreciation, she was presented with a personally signed certificate of appreciation and commendation.

Unwavering Commitment to the Future

While accepting the honour, Chief Mrs. Olajumoke Abegunde reaffirmed her immutable resolve. She declared that her commitment to touching lives remains absolute and non-negotiable. According to her, she will not relent in ensuring that more lives are touched, more support is channeled to the people, and greater stability is secured for communities. She further emphasized her dedication to cultivating the spirit of entrepreneurship among women and youths as a cornerstone for sustainable development.

With over 8,000 direct beneficiaries in Nigeria alone and an expanding international footprint, Chief Mrs. Abegunde stands as a formidable testament to the profound change one determined philanthropist can effectuate when passion meets purpose.

PoliticsLagos Majority Leader Alleges Plans To Manipulate Primary Election Results by VeronExtra(op): 6:29pm On May 22
The majority leader of the Lagos House of Assembly, Noheem Adams, on Friday raised alarm over alleged plans by some people to manipulate the result of the primary election that produced him as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adams reportedly won the primary election of the party to produce a candidate for the House of Assembly in Eti-Osa Constituency 1 on Wednesday after polling 7,638 against his opponent's 1225 votes.

Speaking to thousands of APC supporters during a Victory March, Adams said accused a top monarch (name withheld) in Eti-Osa of being behind the plan to doctor the result in favour of Saheed Adesegun Bankole, who was defeated in the election.

"I want you all very much for the love and passion you have for me and APC. Today is what we call victory walk. We started from VGC with over 4000 APC members. Even inside the rain you stood your ground and you are here to protect your mandate.

"Thank you very much for voting for me. I won the election throughout our wards and the INEC officials, DSS and police personnel were there and even the agents of our opponent were there as well.

"Let me put it on record that his agents and the police signed that the election was free and fair and they took all the results to the local government collation centre.

"When they got there, they presented all the results to the DSS, INEC officials and also to the returning officer and he collected everything and announced that Adams was the winner of the election.

"We believe in this party. The only crime I have committed was during the impeachment of the Speaker; that I did not follow them and did not stand against the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly," he alleged.

He said being a politician, he understood "loyalty and how to always be loyal. That is the only crime I committed and today, I’m calling on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to caution the Oba.

"The Oba is the reason why we lost the presidential election in 2023 in the constituency and he is the reason why we lost the House of Representatives seat. He lost in his own kingdom and the results are there at the INEC for all to see.

"I’m calling on the Inspector General of Police that if anything happens to me, he should hold the Oba responsible. And in 2027, if we lose the presidential election in the local government, the President should hold him responsible. We have assured the President that we are going to vote for him and he will win."

He urged his loyalists and supporters to remain calm as he trusts the party enough to resolve the issue.

President of the Lekki Residents and Stakeholders Association, Sulyman Bello, also thanked the supporters for having faith in Adams.

"On behalf of all of all the estates from 1004 and across the entire Lekki peninsula, we thank all the APC members for standing by our friend, brother, father Hon. Noheem Adams.

"If all the estates in Eti -Osa Osa, call on him at the same time, he will respond. We also thank God that he got over 7,000 votes and his opponent a little above 1,000 votes. The winning margin is above 90%.

"We thank all those of you that voted and also thank President Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership. We extend our gratitude to the APC leaders in Lagos state. If it is not Noheem, it is not Noheem," he said.

PoliticsZamfara State Approves Enhanced Pension Payouts For Retired Public Workers by VeronExtra(op): 8:15pm On May 19
In a decisive move aimed at alleviating the economic burdens of retired public servants, Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has officially approved increased monthly pension payments for all former workers from both state and local government offices. The approval follows an extensive financial review of retirees' living conditions, with particular attention to those in lower-income brackets who have been disproportionately affected by the prevailing cost-of-living crisis.

The decision was precipitated by the findings and recommendations of a special committee empaneled to evaluate the welfare situation of pensioners across the state. The committee's report highlighted acute financial distress among aging retirees and called for immediate remedial action. In response, the state government has authorized a substantive upward adjustment in monthly pension stipends.

This increment aligns seamlessly with the Federal Government's Minimum Wage Act of 2024, which explicitly recommended an additional monthly sum of at least N32,000 for pensioners. Governor Lawal has opted for full implementation of this advisory for all retired state and local government employees a policy intervention expected to benefit thousands of households across Zamfara. The state government has subsequently issued binding directives to all relevant agencies to ensure the expeditious and seamless disbursement of the enhanced payments without procedural delays.

Speaking on the development, the Honorable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, characterized the policy as a tangible demonstration of Governor Lawal's unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for both active and former government workers. According to the Commissioner, the administration operates on the principle that dignified retirement includes access to basic necessities and financial comfort. Beneficiaries across all local government areas have been assured of prompt payment once implementation commences.

By Adeyemi Obadimu Veron

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Monday, May 18, 2026, sealed off BON Hotel located on Sule Olusesi Street, Conservation Area, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment and public drainage channels.

The Commissioner disclosed this development via his official social media handle, reiterating the commitment of the Lagos State Government to environmental sustainability and strict enforcement of sanitation regulations across the state.

He warned that individuals, organisations, and business premises engaging in acts capable of endangering the environment or public health would be sanctioned in line with existing environmental laws of Lagos State.

PoliticsOpinion: Kwara 2027: One Ticket, Too Many “anointed” Candidates by VeronExtra(op): 4:07pm On May 15
By Abdulakeem Abubakar

As the 2027 governorship race in the All Progressives Congress heats up in Kwara State, some aspirants have turned politics into a game of propaganda and self glorification.

Instead of waiting for delegates and party leaders to decide, certain contenders are already parading themselves as “anointed” or “consensus” candidates before the primary election.

Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi’s recent comments after screening in Abuja further fueled speculations, while supporters of Amb. Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari continue flooding the media with claims of inevitability.

But political noise is not victory. Sponsored headlines, media hype and staged endorsements cannot replace genuine grassroots acceptance.

There is only one APC ticket not multiple self declared endorsements.

Kwara people are watching closely as some aspirants desperately try to package themselves as unavoidable choices. Unfortunately, history has shown that propaganda does not win primaries.

By next week, reality will separate genuine political strength from empty noise.

CrimeNSCDC Busts Syndicate Vandalizing Railway Tracks, NNPC Pipelines; 12 Suspects Ar by VeronExtra(op): 6:32pm On May 14
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a syndicate involved in the vandalism, theft and recycling of critical national infrastructure, including railway tracks, NNPC pipelines and water board installations, with no fewer than 12 suspects arrested. The National Public Relations Officer of the corps, ACC Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this during a briefing on Wednesday in Kaduna. Afolabi, represented by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, SC Terzungwe Orndiir, said the operation followed a viral video showing massive vandalisation of newly laid Kaduna-Kano rail tracks and existing railway infrastructure in the northern part of the country. He said the Commandant General of the corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directed the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) and the Kaduna State Command to identify and apprehend those behind the act.

According to Afolabi, the breakthrough was achieved through intelligence-led operations supervised by the Commander of the CG’s SIS, Commandant Apollos Dandaura, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Command. He said operatives on May 12 dismantled what he described as an international and local syndicate operating under a sophisticated criminal cover. The suspects allegedly used the premises of Inner Galaxy Steel Company at Birnin Yero in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State as a front for their activities. According to the NSCDC spokesperson, the company allegedly compressed vandalised railway materials into scrap at its Kaduna facility before transporting them to Aba, Abia State, where they were melted and recycled into nails and iron rods. Afolabi said this criminal cycle had caused the Federal Government monumental economic losses, adding that the suspects allegedly conspired with vandals to purchase stolen railway tracks, slippers, NNPC pipes and water board infrastructure.

The NSCDC spokesman said seven suspects had been arrested in connection with the case, identifying them as Usman Hassan, company manager; Bilyaminu Usman, weighbridge operator; Choji Pam, weighbridge officer; Jamilu Jaafar, scrap collector; Chukwuemeka Udonwoke, supervisor; Chikwodilli Ezema, company manager; and Isaac Etim, scrap leader. According to him, the suspects are being processed for criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of vandalised property and receiving stolen property. He listed items recovered from the scene to include large quantities of vandalised railway tracks and slippers, suspected NNPC and water board pipes, as well as specialised machinery allegedly used for compressing and concealing stolen infrastructure.

Afolabi further disclosed that the CG’s SIS and Kaduna State Command also arrested five suspects over alleged vandalism of rail tracks along the Kaduna-Abuja corridor at Gwagwada community in Chikun Local Government Area. He said exhibits recovered from them included railway tracks, slippers and gas cylinders allegedly used in destroying the infrastructure. The NSCDC spokesman quoted the Commandant General as commending the CG’s SIS and Kaduna State Command for their gallantry and professionalism. He said the corps was concerned that registered companies were allegedly acting as saboteurs, adding, "Under this leadership, the NSCDC will not treat economic sabotage with kid gloves. We are going after the sponsors. This operation marks the beginning of a new phase in our crackdown on syndicates supporting vandalism under any disguise." Afolabi thanked members of the public for providing intelligence through social media and urged continued collaboration with security agencies.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa, commended the NSCDC for recovering large quantities of railway materials allegedly vandalised and concealed in Kaduna State. Opeifa, represented by the Chief Technical Officer (Track), Zaria, Mr Paul Doche, said the NRC team was invited by the NSCDC to identify railway materials recovered during the intelligence-led operation. He said the recovered items included heaps of railway sleepers and rail tracks allegedly hidden beneath scrap metal debris, adding, "We have gone round and identified some of our materials there. These are national assets." Doche praised the NSCDC for what he described as a successful intelligence-driven operation. He noted, however, that it would be difficult to immediately quantify the recovered materials because many of the railway components were buried under heaps of metal scraps. "Before we can quantify, we have to remove all the debris and count the materials one after the other," he said. Doche reiterated that the Nigerian Railway Corporation had zero tolerance for vandalism and destruction of railway infrastructure. According to him, the matter would be handed back to the NSCDC for further investigation and prosecution of those involved in accordance with the law.
