Happy sunday FireRain.. Man from st Petersburg, very make sense old school spy story. Enjoy the ride. The century trilogy goes through three generations of families in America and Europe. It tells their individual stories and triumphs. It vividly describes behind the scenes stories of both world wars and the cold war. The second book in the series is actually my favourite World war2 book. You will not regret reading the series, this i promise.

I am like done reading legal thrillers. John grisham initiated me, Victor Methos ended the ride with some other authors in-between.The legal thrillers was a nice ride i must say.So yesterday i googled greatest books ever written, i found a site that listed 30.I have read like 10 of them, on a quest to read the other 20.I am currently reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Will rate it once i am done.

Some people dey look things from just one perspective.. dem no dey listen to reason. British and American soldiers captured by the japs were treated less than animals. The japs believed any soldier should commit suicide instead of being captured. But the japs that were captured by american and other allied armies were treated fairly based on the Geneva treaty on POWs. One mad man will now come here and spew trash. Russians were part of the allied army but breached treaty terms,. They occupied east germany and the polish territories leaving the western armies no choice but to occupy the west. So anybody wey wan talk here make him read him history books well.. Rubbish.

Sorry oo
What about the hundreds of thousands of Chinese the Japs killed for sports sir?
What are the rules of engagement of the era?
I doubt if the US broke any rules using that bomb.
.

Compared with all the atrocities committed by nations that engaged in the second world, the USA is a saint.
.
In fact, Karl Donitz admonished soldiers to avoid Russian troops but rather surrender to Western and American troops. Know why?
Baba you are saying the perfect truth. The japs treated their POWs wore than other combatants. Nothing can ever justify the bombing of Nanking and Shanghai by the japanese.

I have the book for your info and nowhere in the book did he say he will slaughter all the Jews. Unless you can highlight where he said it. When it comes to Hitler, it is so unfortunate that even the so called intellectuals throw away their reason and start using nonsense feelings.
baba hitle wrote that book before he even became the fuhrer.. In that book he laid the outlines for the systemic extermination of jews. E be like say na only summary u read oohh.. Your matter sef tire me.

It didn't become widespread anything, it was a demon living in your average German back then. Read about Friedrich Nietzsche, he was a philosopher who condemned antisemitism with all his heart. His sister, the man she married, his friends and a lot of people he met were antisemitic bastards. His sister in particular is part of the cause of the Nazi's rise to power.
Oga you are diverting the topic. Anti semitism has always been part of european history for centuries.Even Williams Shakespeare described shylock the jew in a bad light. Jews have always been persecuted.. fine.. i agree. But hitler took his to the extreme. He whipped up anti jew sentiments to new heights. How else could he inspire an already defeated people. A people still reeling under the throes of economic depression of the weimer republic. Then came hitler with his oratory skills, his charisma and brilliance. He made the german people see the good in his sick schemes. Hitler lead germany and was the the mastermind behind the holocaust. You cant tell me otherwise.

Yes we know he hated jews but he could have enslaved him couldn't he. Haven't you heard of THE JEWISH QUESTION read up about it. There's even a British historian that has reminded people time and again that Hitler was just a dumb paranoid figurehead. I have read mein kampf and I can tell you that he never said anything about killing all the Jew's or people of other races, he simply hated them. And by the way, antisemitism and racism was a widespread disease back then in Germany. Take note.
Anti semitism became widespread after Hitler and his Minions looked for a scapegoat to blame for Germany's woes and their loss at the world war1. Anti semitism was the force that propelled the Nazi party to power.

Where did I say that it is a lie? There is no proof that Hitler directly commanded the killing of the jews (the holocaust), it was Eichmann who engineered the whole thing, why did the Jew's then go after him? Hitler's crime was simply sitting quiet and watching such atrocities happen without so much as a word. Let me present evidence that Hitler was just a figurehead, now around the end of the World War Hitler became more paranoid and started having issues with his generals, when he took the reins Germany started losing terribly, till the Allies finally raided Germany.
Oga Hitler had always hated always hated jews. Go through his speeches, you will see.He always had the vision of a racially pure Germany. A Germany of pure Aryan blood(a figment of his imagination). He eliminated any other race he deemed impure.. jews, gypsies, slavs, poles and some russians. Dont tell me he was mute and eichmann was the main man. Hitler was the conductor of the whole orchestra.

If it is mein kampf you are talking about then know this, he wrote Mein Kampf while in prison and never talked about killing Jew's, I have the book self. As for Stalin's case, the nonsense you hear about him was either false or exaggerated he was crazy, yes but the fact remains that because of the cold war it wouldn't be sensible to believe every nonsense America spread about him. I am not trying to present him as an angel (hell he was the one that made this gulags and all not to add how he killed Leon Trotsky) I am simply trying to say that America and the UK can demonise others while making themselves appear like saints.
Why are you trying to paint hitler as a saint?? He was Germany's defacto leader during that period. His word was law,or are you telling us the Holocaust is a fiction manufactured by western media??

its a lie bombing of nagasaki and horoshima is not veageance its terrorism ... japan was already on the verge of surrender ... it was very very unnecessary.... us was just trying to send a message to the soviets... japan was use as the sacred cow
Baba it was necessary.. After America captured Okinawa. Gen Mac Arthur waved the white flag, Japan no gree. They were ready to fight to the last man. The Japanese in the second world war were suicide warriors. Them for no gree. America was left with no choice but to make a bold statement. It was the Japanese emperor that sued for peace after Nagasaki. Japanese samurai generals were still ready to fight to the bitter end. I will suggest you read The Battle of Okinawa by Colonel Hiromichi Yahara. This was a a true account of the world war 2 from a Japanese angle. Towards the end if the war, the writer became disillusioned by the stupidity and stubbornness of japanese generals.

Idi Amin was terrible but the west overbloated it just like Stalin's case.
I beg to disagree on this sir. Hitler was a terrible person. Himmler, Goering and the other Nazis were his underlinings and puppets. Go and read his book and you will realize how evil he was. He single handedly masterminded the holocaust. Jews around the world still bear the pain. Stalin was another sick bastard, he killed for for fun. He initiated the soviet purges that eliminated most russian intellectuals of that era. If you did not subscribe to his mad gorm of soviet socialism, you are done for. His main rival, Leob Trotsky was assasinated in Mexico.

Ben Okri's "The Famished Road" is a must read. Tells the tale of a spirit child(Abiku) that refuses to be reincarnated. Azaro:the child, falls in love with living. He decises to shun the endless cycle of rebirth despite the sinister efforts of his spirit companions. It weaves through extreme poverty, undying parental love and sadness. Set in the ghetto of a west African city during pre independence times. I rate the book 10/10.Ben okri is a Nigerian fantasy writer.
