INEC will hold the supplementary elections on March 9, the same day as the earlier scheduled governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections. Gistvic Reports.

Festus Okoye, INEC’s national commissioner for information and voter education, said the supplementary polls will be conducted in areas where the poll was cancelled last Saturday, alongside the governorship and state houses of assembly elections.

He said the decision was reached during the commission’s meeting with resident electoral commissioners (RECs) on Thursday in Abuja.

INEC had cancelled the presidential elections in some areas as a result of violence in River state as well as other parts of Lagos and Anambra states. Gistvic Reports.

A tricycle operator has been arrested after knocking down an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), while driving against traffic. Gistvic Reports.

The incident occurred, today, around Ajayi Farms, Ikeja. The LASTMA official, identified as Oladimeji, sustained injuries in the incident.

The driver, however, tried to evade arrest by speeding off, but was eventually arrested after a hot chase. Gistvic Reports.

One Afolabi Ojo has been jailed after being convicted on a one-count amended charge bordering on false representation and obtaining money under false pretense. Gistvic Reports.

The convict was falsely representing himself on a Instagram page “Beat Classic Store” as a shoe and bag seller.

He had initially pleaded “not guilty” but later changed his plea to “guilty” on the amended one-count charge.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, thereafter convicted him and sentenced him to six months in prison from the date of conviction having opted for a plea bargain. .

Afolabi Ojo (a.k.a. Kemisola) had also undertaken to restitute the total sum of N45,000 falsely obtained from his victim.

The journey to the prison began for Afolabi, following a petition sometimes in June 2017, alleging that he engaged in internet fraud. .

He created a “Best Classic Store” on Instagram with the name Kemisola on which he advertised shoes and bags for online sales through which he collects money for services not rendered. Gistvic Reports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on January 24, 2019 secured the conviction of one Ibrahim Suleiman who defrauded then First Inland Bank of N400, 700,000 (Four Hundred Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) only. Gistvic Reports.


Suleiman was first arraigned in 2007 at a Federal High Court, sitting in Jos, Plateau State. He was re-arraigned on amended charges in 2011.

Presiding judge, Justice Ayo Emmanuel, found him guilty of all the eight charges preferred against him by the EFCC, ruling that the prosecution, led by Comos Ugwu, proved its case beyond every reasonable doubt after calling eight witnesses.

Taking into consideration provisions of Section 311 and Section 416 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, and the allocutus of the defence pleading for “leniency”, the trial judge, sentenced him to five years on counts one, two, four, six and eight; three years on count three, and two years on counts five and seven, to run concurrently. Oyetola Damilola, an Electrical Engineering lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University has died.

The 34-year-old reportedly died on Monday, the 14th of January, 2017, shortly after complaining about chest pain and has since been buried.
