No fewer than 30 people were killed after Boko Haram members attacked Warwara, Mangari and Bura-Shika villages in Borno state over the weekend. Mustapha Karimbe, a member of the state vigilante group said many of the injured persons had machete cuts on them and they lost most of thier body parts.

“Most of the victims were slaughtered and most of the wounded (had suffered) machete cuts,”he told AFP

Worst hit in the attack is ‎Warwara village where 20 people were killed. Six people were reportedly killed in Bura-Shika while four were killed in Mangari.

D’banj is set to release a new single with Don Jazzy, the singer claims.

At the private viewing of his much-anticipated visual EP yesterday, D’banj shocked fans and members of the press when he announced that he will be dropping new singles with his former producer and business partner.
The ‘Confidential’ singer held back the title of the forthcoming single, but stated that they have been working on the duet for a while. The new single will be their first collaboration since the breakup of Mo’Hits Records in 2011.

“I and Don Jazzy have worked together. The songs will soon be ready,” D’banj declared.
This year has seen D;’banj and Don Jazzy publicly resume their friendship, with the Kokomaster dedicating his MAMA Evolution Award to the Mavin Boss, leading to a series of hangouts, and event appearances.

Don Jazzy had earlier revealed his willingness to work with D’banj, stating that their various personal projects and a lack of a fixed time have been the major preventive factor.

“It is possible.” The Mavin Record boss told Naijakit. “When we both settle down to want to do it, we will do it. He is in Yankee, he’s in London, me I’m busy with m Korede (Bello), my Reekado (Banks). By the time we sit down, and come to Lekki, we are in the same vicinity, we can work on something.”

During a Periscope session with fans in October, Don Jazzy also said he was not in any fight with D’banj, saying the supposed feud between them was only sold to folks by the press. He said he visits and hangs out with D’banj and they are ‘brothers’, concluding with a statement that at their next concert, they may be performing some of D’banj’s classics.

The new single with Don Jazzy will be one of the many planned projects by D’banj, as the singer is also speculating on making a movie centred around his rise from grass to fame.

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday visited Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to fulfill all campaign promises made to the people during the campaigns.

The elder statesman however, explained that his visit to Benue State was propelled by the development initiatives of the Ortom administration geared towards ensuring industrialisation of the state.

Obasanjo stated this at a dinner organised for him by Governor Ortom at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples’ House, Makurdi. In keeping with her commitment to the wellbeing of indigent women, widowsand orphans in Anambra state, the wife of the governor of Anambra state, Chief (Mrs.) EbelechukwuObianohascommenced distribution of rice and money for soup condiments to beneficiaries across the 177 communities in the state as part of her community tour which kicked-off at Ayamelum and Anambra East on Monday and Oyi and Dunukofia Local Government Areas on Tuesday.

Addressing the crowd at St Joseph Field, Anaku, Ayamelum and Otuocha, Anambra East comprising beneficiaries from the various communities, and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the respective LGAs, Chief (Mrs.)Obiano said that she came to make sure that indigent women, widows, orphans in the communities do not have a bleak Christmas by supporting them with bags of rice, bags of fertilizer, school bags and money for soup condiments to indigent women, widows, orphans.

The Christmas gestureinclude numerous bags of fertilizer and cassava stocks, hundreds of bags of rice plus N3,000 each to 20 women and widows, school bags containing all the writing materials and cash of N2,000 to each of the 10 orphaned pupils and cash of N3,000 to some physically challenged from each community in the 21 LGAs.

Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the rice, fertilizer and cash to the needy at Anaku, Ayamelum Council headquarters, Chief Mrs. Obiano thanked the women and members of the community for turning out en-masse to welcome her, assuring that she would continue to train and empower their people in order to be self-reliant.The wife of the governor disclosed that the visit was to enable her reach out and assist less privileged people ahead of Christmas to ensure that the many in the communities are assisted to be part of the celebration.

The founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ) challenged those who want to be empowered to identify and register with her NGO in order to benefit from the empowerment and training programmes organized from time to time.

She noted that the gesture was made possible through the support and donation of philanthropists and well-meaning persons to her pet project, CAFE, stressing that her efforts were targeted at supporting the good governance of her husband, Chief Willie Obiano.

Describing her husband as an action governor, Chief Mrs.Obiano informed the people that old people of the state are being paid stipends monthly, stressing that in the face of mean financial resources from the Federal Government, the State government has increased internally generated revenue of the State from N500 million to N1.3 billion in nineteen months as well as attracted investments to the tune of USD 2.6 billion.

Chief Mrs.Obiano further announced that over eight hundred physically challenged have received artificial limbs, while many children have received free surgery to correct cleft lip and cleft palate deformity.

In a message of welcome, the former local government chairman of the Council and State Secretary APGA, Barrister. He appreciated the ongoing construction of bridges and roads by the governor across the state, and urged people of Ayamelum to continue to support governor Obiano and his wife in order to keep enjoying the dividend of democracy.

The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, have closed down the school after 48 hours of students unrest.

The institution was shut down on Tuesday after an emergency meeting of Senate.

The students started the protest on Monday over epileptic power supply, unavailability of portable water supply in their halls of residence and alleged poor funding of education in Nigeria.

The protest prevented free flow of traffic into and out of the campus.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Biodun Olanrewaju, who confirmed the closure of the university in an interview, said that the date of resumption would be announced as and when due.

He however said that the convocation slated for next week would still hold

ENUGU—Students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, yesterday, urged the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu to quickly intervene over the compulsory laptop fee foisted on them by the university authority.

New students of the university, who spoke to newsmen in separate interviews, described the N75,000 compulsory laptop levy as arbitrary.

It was gathered that the university administration had recently introduced a mandatory policy, wherein all the students are being forced to own a laptop.

One of the new students described the policy as inhuman, noting that, “it is so sad that they are making education so difficult for the poor.

“With this policy, we would now be paying close to N200,000 in a federal university per session. This is wickedness.

“As I speak to you, I’m helpless because my parents don’t have that kind of money. It is wrong for anyone to make computer ownership compulsory. It should be a matter of choice. The management should not use us to make money.”

Also speaking another student called on the education minister to call the vice chancellor to order.

“We are begging the minister to urgently intervene because they are turning this university to a market place.

“If the vice chancellor is interested in doing laptop business, he should find a market for it, not placing such burden on poor students.

“Some of our parents are leaving on N18,000 minimum wage; now they want them to pay N200,000 as school fees for one session. This is wickedness of the highest order. This computer ownership should be by choice,” he stated.

South Africa is now believed to be the most corrupt country on the continent, according to a new survey.

The latest report by Transparency International sees South Africa top the list of countries where citizens believe the problem has got worse in the last year.

Over 80% of South Africans who were interviewed thought that corruption had increased over the last year. Ghana and Nigeria are some of the other worst-affected nations.

79% of South Africans surveyed also believe that not enough is being done to curb corruption. On the continent‚ the majority of Africans (58%) say that corruption has increased over the past year.

If there is one shining light to the survey it’s that 56% of South Africans surveyed believe that ordinary people can make a difference in the fight against corruption.

The survey found that 25% of respondents in SA believe that the most effective way for ordinary citizens to combat corruption is by reporting their experiences‚ followed by a further 22% who identified the refusal to pay bribes as an effective means to fight corruption.

With 43‚143 respondents, across 28 countries surveyed, people feel the police, business executives, government officials and the courts were all perceived as corrupt, with 75 million people estimated to have paid a bribe in the past year, AFP reports.

Between JZ pouring money into his Nkandla digs, Prasa’s dodgy trainsand countless of other scandals, South Africans aren’t exactly stoked about the state of affairs.

“People are outraged, they see this huge spending as part of government corruption,” David Lewis, director of Corruption Watch, a local anti-graft organisation, told AFP.

Chelsea’s planning application for a new 60,000-seat ground, on the site of Stamford Bridge, has revealed the full scale of what will be the country’s most ambitious stadium build yet.

On Tuesday, 160 documents were published featuring images of the Blues’ planned new home, with work on the £600million-plus, three-year project expected to be signed off in the summer.

Provided they get the necessary backing in the now-launched consultation period, Chelsea could begin life at a revamped Stamford Bridge on the first day of the 2020-2021 season.

However, the new design hasn’t gone down well with all football fans, with some claiming the stadium will look like a colander, a Slinky toy or an egg slicer.

Roman Abramovich’s design team, spearheaded by Herzog & de Meuron – most famous for their work on Bayern Munich’s incredible Allianz Arena and the beautiful Beijing Bird’s Nest – have produced a new 60,000-capacity ground that draws Westminster Abbey among its influences.

As revealed by Sportsmail’s Charles Sale earlier this week, the stands will have the same names so fans can stay in their favoured place. The President said his attention was drawn to the resultant discomfort the implementation of TSA has caused in the academic and administrative activities in tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking through the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Julius Okogie, he explained that the TSA policy was introduced in order to enthrone financial discipline and curb corruption in the country.

The TSA was “introduced for a good cause and the issues involved in its implementation as it affects tertiary institutions are being addressed.”

The President reiterated the ‘zero-tolerance for corruption’ by his administration, saying he was determined to lead by example.

“We shall obey our laws and shall be transparent, accountable, just, fair and demonstrate integrity in all our undertakings.

“The leadership of this university should therefore, continue to be prudent, transparent and accountable in the management of both human and materials resources.

“Government is determined to fight corruption at all levels including corruption in academics in our tertiary institutions.

“We cannot speak of effective and efficient funding of the education sector if our universities are mired in crises, confusion, fraud and lack of institutional vision.

“I must at this point call on universities to be at the vanguard of the fight against corruption and eroded ethics, which constitute a major component of our societal ills.

“We must all endeavour as citizens and members of the academic community to enthrone the spirit of hardwork, honesty and inspirational leadership which are the hallmark of any citadel of learning.”

The President said the need for the diversification of the economy is ripe now considering the dwindling fortune of oil in the international market and charged universities to join hands with Federal Government in the onerous task.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Adebiyi Daramola in his address said 4,435 students graduated with various degrees from the university with 28 of them having first class

PRESIDENT Muhamadu Buhari has assured that the problems being encountered in the tertiary education sub-sector as regards the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) will soon be addressed.

He gave the assurance during the 27th convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State.

APC Picks Yahaya Bello for Kogi State Supplementary Election

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Alhaji Yahaya Bello (Fair Plus) as the party’s new candidate for Kogi State governorship supplementary election slated for next week Saturday
The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Alhaji Yahaya Bello (Fair Plus) as the party’s new candidate for Kogi State governorship supplementary election slated for next week Saturday.
Bello, who came second in the August 29, 2015 party primaries, will replace the late Prince Abubakar Audu on the APC ticket after the demise of the latter on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the peak of the collation of the election results.
Just two days ago, the late Audu’s running mate in the inconclusive poll, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, wrote both INEC and his party, the APC, telling them why he ought to be declared the governor-elect after the death of Audu, having jointly secured votes substantially required by the Const!tution to win an election.
At about the same time, some leaders of the Kogi State branch of the party also presented the first son of the deceased politician, Mohammed Audu, to the national leadership of the APC in order to step into his late father’s shoes as the governorship candidate.

But the party hierarchy apparently ignored all these submissions and settled for Bello from Kogi Central in order not to run too much foul of the law

A very senior party official confirmed Bello’s choice to LEADERSHIP Weekend last night.

While the late Audu polled 1,109 votes to defeat 26 other aspirants who contested with him, Bello polled 702 votes to become Audu’s closest challenger in the keenly contested governorship primary election which was adjudged free and fair.
