@OP.

That's true!. Not only China, but all developed countries like USA, Japan, Korean, Germany, UK, France, e.t.c.

You said you're unemployed, but in these countries you can't be unemployed after studying science, cause their economy run on science, not theoretical but practical science. You're unemployed because you've studied theories all the while in our school and can't create your own job.

The one of the school is to develop independent and gear students towards self reliance.

The school develops the natural skills in students with Practical oriented science approach.

I believe they have a vision of bringing science practical down to grassroot. It is never too late.

we have up to 7 unity FSTC in the country. But from JSS makes them exceptional.

You are right Sir, the JSS and most possibly the packaging makes them exceptional.

While I was on the tour, he explained that the automobile workshop for instance will have a full functional vehicle where the JSS1 students will begin by identifying car parts to knowing the various car issues and problems.

similar things also applies for the other labs/workshop which are practical based.

I wish all this happened during my school days, why I go dey find work?

Very funny....Govt Sci Tech college, Farfaru-sokoto was founded in 1954 as Arts & Crafts College, later renamed Govt sec Tech Sch before its present name

OP do u mean to say 1st private science and technology sch ?

Do they study only science and Technology with Practicals from JSS1? Thats why i think the school is different.

Alternatively, it can be said to be the First Private Science and Technology Scondary School in Nigeria.

A Nairalander's Visit To The 1st Science And Technology College In Nigeria

I was on my usual research on the internet facebook to be precised when I discovered a school named Shalom Science and Technology Academy (SSTAC), acclaimed to be the first Science and Technology Academy in Nigeria. On further enquiry, it was discovered that the school is starting in September 2016 and situated at Enugu, and since I stay close to Enugu I decided to embark on this discovery journey.
The Journey was motivated by the following;

1. Is there a possibility of having a pure science and technology Academy in a country like ours after the good old days of Government Technical Colleges (GTC)?

2. If such school exist, what are the structures on ground to prove that they are equal to the task and what equipment if any differentiates them from the usual mainstream schools?

3. Due to the fact that I studied science and am yet to be gainfully employed, what plans is the so called First Science and Technology Academy making to gear these children towards self reliance?

4. Finally, do they have any plans for people that might not be able to afford the college but have what it takes apart from the financial aspect?
Having taken note of all these things, I contacted the school through their website www.sstac.sch.ng and notified them of my intention to visit the school on a personal accreditation and fact finding mission. The school approved my request and subsequently reverted back to me with an availability date.

On the set day, I was at Enugu by 9am and located the said school. The school structures were in the last phase of completion, the pictures and the prototypes are below;
I met with the International Brand Ambassador and board member by name Tochukwu, and he cleared some of my initial questions.

1. He took me round the laboratories and workshops that the students will be taught with. He explained to me that the first thing they intend to do, from the entrance examination is to identify the talent of the individual and then recommend science, computer or technology based club to the individual to encourage and further develop such natural gift . After classes which have lots of practical attached the student visits the laboratories or workshop for personal skill development under the careful watch of the workshop and laboratory supervisor. I was most amazed with the large space for the Lab and workshops especially the physics lab and Automobile/Mechanical workshop.

2. The school has a well-equipped ensuite accommodation to take care of the students. Has a two story block for female and another 2 story block for male accommodation.
Also the school has an ultra-modern ICT hub although it has not been equipped as they open in September 2016, they also have spacious laboratories and workshops. I was blown off when he showed me 2 rooms that he said are solely for research and development. I asked him Research kwa in secondary school? To which he said of cause, China has one of the largest manufacturing populace and industry because it grooms these experts from young.

3. He further explained that the main purpose of the school is to make the students self reliant before they finish their senior secondary school, he quickly drew my attention to those rooms he showed me as spaces for product research and development? That students should by their SS2 identify needs in the market, speak with their tutors and research and develop prototypes for the products. He told me that this idea of science, computer and technology colleges are not new in developed societies, that infact in the U.K. and U.S. such colleges are called U.T.C’s. He emphasized that the curriculum of the school is not only enquiry based using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) methodologies, but also based on about 60% Practical and 40% theoretical. The implication of this is that even from JSS1 the students will start visiting and making use of the computer room, laboratories and workshops.
He also assured me that the students of the school will pay routine and agreed visits to industries that cover the Science, Computer and Technology sectors.

4. On the issue of people who could not afford the school by those who are probably developed science wise and does not have the capability to afford the school. He said that the school provides ranges of scholarship opportunities.
He also told me that this soon to start secondary school has a sister college called Shalom Academy Nsukka (SAN) that has even represented Nigeria in international Olympiad completions in India and Japan 2007 and 2008 respectively. He said that Shalom Schools believe in developing the youth, through qualitative education.
The only thing such students should do is to register for the entrance exam after which further follow ups would be done.
It was a very fulfilling trip and adventure as I got more than what I expected. Infact if we are beginning to have schools like this, then soon this society will be great again. However in the summary I believe that better soup, na good money make am.

Thanks.

good morning.pls I need answers on this questions .I missed batch C because my skul dint see my dob on jamb portal so dey sed and so my name wuz omitted dis mistake has been rectified by my skul cos we were asked 2 fill a mobilization form .A lecturer tld me dat nysc nw confirms our info from jamb because dey noticed skuls collect money 4rm pple dat are not stds and send deir names as students.my questions goes thus:
1)wat is d implication of ones dob not dere by default and u jes type it in urself during online reg
2)wat if dob is sent 2 nysc by skul and nysc tries 2 confirm on jamb portal but its missing wat is d fate of such person.

am sorry for the delay in replying ur question, thiz was caused by some issues with my blog nairaland (ournewspoint) .
1. the implication of no dob, its that the person Will not be mobilized, but NYSC will send the error list to your school for updates and correction before u will finally be mobilised. moreso, if u type ur date of birth NYSC will still reconcile the record with Jamb.

2. don't worry urself too much, if during NYSC registration u can still add ur date pf birth through WAEC verification. we will help u out when the time reaches.
thanks a lot.

Politics / APC Orders Presidential Aspirants To Sign Undertaking by vickjoeobi(m): 5:24pm On Dec 03, 2014
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday directed
the five presidential aspirants contesting on its platform to
sign an undertaking ahead of its primary on Dec. 10.
This was disclosed during the presentation of certificates to
all the aspirants who scaled through the party’s screening on
Dec. 2.
Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, while explaining the reason for the
decision, said “we want our aspirants to sign letters of
commitment to the party to assure the party that they’re
running to offer service.
”To improve the well being of Nigerians; to improve security
and for the others to support the winner by collapsing their
structures into the party so that the party can move into the
elections united.
Before presenting the certificates, Onu said he was
impressed by the scores of the aspirants who, he testified,
were thoroughly grilled to ascertain their competence for the
nation’s top job.
”Yesterday we met for hours with the aspirants, during that
exercise we found these men are so distinguished that
there’s not one that won’t make great difference for the
country.
”During the screening, we took the members through a very
rigorous path, we tested their understanding of the nation’s
problems and I’m happy, satisfied with the quality of people
running for president on the APC platform.
”I want to also reveal to you that the scores were very
narrow and very high, the least scored 62 per cent and while
the highest scored 78 per cent.
“The second even scored 77 and the third 75, it was a close
call,” Onu said.
Responding on behalf of the aspirants, Gen. Muhammad
Buhari commended the party for putting together a
competent screening committee.
”We are very grateful to our great party for organising such
a competent team to interview us. We went through the mill
yesterday on foreign affairs, security, economy and the
impact of what our personal decisions are to the polity.
”Its a very trying times for the five of us, and we’re
grateful that they’ve been very generous in their award of
marks and that we all made it and the rest of the decision
now is left largely to the delegates.
”The secretary has read the letter which we were made to
sign yesterday so that the loyalty to the party will be
supreme,” Buhari said.
The general alongside Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Sam Nda-
Isaiah and Governors Rochas Okorocha and Rabiu
Kwankwaso passed through the screening on Tuesday and
were successful.
