How We Met

Ope and I went to the same university and attended the same fellowship. We met in 2008 during my first year, at the end of year fellowship dinner. We both came with our own dates; Ope was with his girlfriend at that time. While greeting my date who happened to be his very good friend, he made a comment about me being the assistant Holy Spirit seeing as his friend was Pastor of our fellowship. I’d thought “What a Joker”. I hadn’t even gotten his name.

Sometime later on in the semester, after one of the weekday fellowship services, we got talking and then he walked me to my hostel. From there, one thing led to another and we became really good friends. We didn’t start dating until about three years later.

Proposal Story

It finally happened on April 1st of this year. It was also Easter Sunday and we had decided to have a barbeque at Ope’s place. Although I’d been expecting the proposal to happen for ages (hello, we had been dating for over 7 years by then! Lol). I had absolutely no clue the proposal was going to happen that day. For one, Ope sucks at surprises so it rarely ever happens. Also considering that he’s not a crowd person, inviting a group of friends over with the aim of popping the question was something I would never have thought of. Like that’s so Un-Ope.

So, I was flipping burgers when Ope took the floor to give a thank you speech. He’s “The Funny Guy” so of course, he had to be comical about it. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. As I flipped a burger which one of our friends had been trying hard to relieve me of, Ope called me to his side. Even then, I wasn’t even thinking along the lines of a proposal. I thought maybe he was just…in his feelings. Not until the speech turned to a review of our years together and our relationship. I figured he must have been extremely nervous because boy, the speech was LONG. Eventually, he went on one knee and brought out the most beautiful ring, most perfect ring… Of course, it was YES!

Aviation Unions on Wednesday left travelers stranded at the local section of the Murtal Muhammed airport after shutting down the wing in protest of the sack of some of their members.

According to Premium Times, the unions which include The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), had on Tuesday issued a notice informing airlines and other relevant authorities of the impending protest.

By this notice, all aviation workers connected with MMA2, including the employees of BASL, are hereby directed to withdraw their services as above notified and join other members in the organised protest activities at the terminal on that date as from 6a.m.

By this notice also, all business enterprises, including airlines are hereby advised to note this development and make alternative arrangements as may be feasible.

In similar manner, the traveling public are equally advised to seek alternative traveling points, or dates,” the unions said.

The notice collectively signed by General Secretaries of the Unions, revealed that the protest which was to begin on Wednesday at 6:00 am was in a bid to ensure the operators of MM2, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) reinstates members of their staff who were allegedly sacked in May, 2018.

And on whether Pastor Chris could have barred her from attending the ceremony, the source authoritatively said; “Its not possible for the man of God to have done that. He is a peace-loving person and even if such happened, Anita, who is known to have been vocal since the divorce took place, must have taken to social media to express herself. I think she just didn’t feel up to handling what would have happened at the event.”

The divorce case between Pastor Chris and Anita was filed in 2014 in the United Kingdom on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour”, adultery and several other allegations.

Months after the divorce, the estranged couple reportedly shared their two kids. While Sharon, the eldest, preferred her dad, Charlene stayed with her mum.

Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has accused her own Aide De Camp, Sani Baba-Inna, of defrauding her and has ordered his arrest. According to Premium Times, Baba-Inna, a chief superintendent of police, was accused of receiving huge donations from politicians and business people on her behalf and then kept the cash to himself.
As a result, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has been ordered by the wife of Buhari to arrest and compel Mr. Baba-Inna to refund the money, put at over N2.5billion.
However, Premium Times reports that Baba-Inna, who was arrested Friday and has remained in detention ever since, with relatives having no access to him, family members , strongly denied the accusation.
“The IG said the matter must be investigated immediately and the house of the ADC was raided,” one of our sources said. “Shockingly, investigators only found N1,200 cash in the House. His bank account was also investigated and had only a balance of N30,000 while the transaction records showed that most credits to the account were his salaries and allowances.”
The police, it was gathered, concluded that Mrs Buhari must have been wrongly informed as there was nothing to show or prove that such huge sums of money was in the custody of Mr Baba-Inna.
“For instance, one of those named was the IG of Police himself,” the source said. “But the IG said he has never passed any money through Baba-Inna.”
When Mrs Buhari was informed of the outcome of police investigation, the source said the first lady flared up and accused the police of colluding “to protect one of their own”.
She then reportedly asked the State Security Service (SSS) to take over the case and get her money back”.

While we celebrate the inflow of foreign capital into local technology businesses, it is critical to consider both the long-term and short-term impact of this capital inflow.

In the short-term, there is the supply of capital and the badly needed expertise/ non-financial support for technology businesses to thrive. This is critical especially in a market with poor infrastructure and a number challenges facing these businesses. Strategic counsel and expertise that comes with foreign capital are vital and necessary for the development of the local ecosystem.
The potential of Nigeria’s Digital Economy
Nigeria is Africa’s largest digital market and the 8th largest country in the world regarding internet users. More internet users than the UK, South Africa, Egypt, Portugal, Spain and Italy, obviously due to mobile penetration and the country’s population.

This is both good and bad news. The good news is the size of the population/market with access to the internet while the bad is millions of unskilled/semi-skilled internet users with abysmally low purchasing power. Nigeria was recently crowned country with the world’s poorest overtaking India.
What does this mean? It’s simple when you look at the literacy & unemployment rate and the average age of our population; millions of poor uneducated people with access to mobile internet from Nigeria will be potential nuisance to a connected world…..this is a Medium publication for another day.
Let’s look at how the Nigerian digital economy is evolving.

From the above chart, Nigeria straddles Break out (Countries held back by infrastructure deficit though with huge potential to join the Standouts) and Watch out (Countries facing significant digitisation challenges). Nigeria has vast digital possibilities and with the right policies and infrastructure, the balance could tilt significantly raising millions out of poverty while moving Nigeria to the standout league.
The size of our digital economy or knowledge economy is enormous and potentially could be twice its current size within the next decade. The Nigerian economy of the future (a knowledge economy) should not be built with foreign capital alone; there must be a healthy mix of local and international capital.
Foreign Capital is building the Nigerian Tech Ecosystem.
Let’s look at the news headlines over the last seven days.
Last Tuesday, Paystack raised $8m from some investors including Stripe and Visa, on Thursday UK Government announced 70 million pounds fund for tech and innovative start-ups in Nigeria during Theresa May’s visit. Yesterday our president signed a $328m facility for ICT development from the Chinese EXIM Bank. Funding this digital evolution shouldn’t be with foreign capital alone, there is need for a hybrid of local capital from private investors, crowdfunding sources, local banks, government grants and foreign capital. The much bigger technology companies could get listed on the stock exchange reflecting the maturity of the industry and strengthening investors’ confidence.
While I do celebrate the good news received these past seven days, my favourite being Paystack (for obvious reasons), I cannot get past the fact that in one week over $406m in capital pledge is going into the technology sector from foreign sources.
Downside of building Tech Ecosystem exclusively from external capital.
Is there any potential downside to this?

Kathryn Mayorga had accused Ronaldo of raping her in 2009, and although an out-of-court settlement had been reached, she has opened a civil suit against him, seeking to have the settlement voided.

Pat Utomi has emerged the representative of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Delta state gubernatorial election.

Punch reports that Utomi was declared the representative after winning the party primaries organized by the Cyril Ogodo-led factional State Working Committee of the party in Asaba.

Utomi, who had declared his intention to rule the state in September, ran against 3 others, polling 2,486 votes compared to the closest aspirant Victor Ochei‘s 801 votes.

Dr. Cairo Ojougboh polled 368 votes while Great Ogboru came fourth with 106 votes.

The party’s other faction, led by Prophet Jones Erue is, as as the time of this report, collating results of the primary election.

Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Bruce, has decided not to run for a second term as senator.

According to The Cable, Ben Bruce revealed this in a letter addressed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.

A different person from the constituency should be given a chance to run for the seat, he said in the letter.

I thank God and the good people of Brass, Bayelsa East Senatorial District who offered me the golden opportunity four years ago to represent them and the state in the Senate, Nigeria’s highest lawmaking chamber,” the letter read.

It is without doubt that I have tried to discharge my duties as a legislator and representative of my people creditably to the best of my ability so far.

My voice has been very loud on the issues that matter to our people and our country at all time. My support to our party, my people and state government is unquestionable. I am humbled that the national leadership of my party supported by the State chapter in appreciation of my efforts offered to support my reelection to the senate to continue my service.

I have also intensified consultations in the last couple of week in the course of which I have come to realize an existing local rotational arrangement of over 20 years beginning with the late Great Chief Melford Okilo, by which arrangement the Senatorial seat rotates per local government area among the three councils for four years in the Senatorial District.

Even with the support of my party at the National and state levels with the full backing of my state government and leadership, as a man of honour interested in the well-being of my people, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the Senatorial race.

I do not want whatever reason to appear to have used my privileged position and influence to do anything other than the well-being and the stability and the good of the people. I am in all of these for the people, not for myself.

Once again, I thank the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, my colleagues in the Senate and Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson for their support and encouragement.

I also thank the leadership of my Senatorial District and state, for being there for me.

I thank specially the people of my constituency for their trust and confidence in me to serve and represent them in the Senate. By trusting me with this mandate, I have come to know them and our people even better, an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life.

As voters in Osun state turned out in large numbers on Saturday, there was a moment of panic for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, as the card reader did not initially work.

Adeleke voted in Ward 2 Unit 9 at Sagba-Abogunde in Ede north at about 8:01 am after an initial hitch with the card reader.

” The card reader took a lot of processes before it started working and I hope it is not the same in other polling units,’’ he said.

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) covering the election reported a high turnout at many of the polling units visited across the three senatorial districts of the state.

A heavy security cordon was also thrown on the state with the massive deployment of policemen as well as other security agencies while soldiers were sighted on the outskirts of the state capital.

NAN reports that there are 3,010 Polling Units and 755 Polling Points spread across the three senatorial districts and 30 local governments areas of the state.

Although INEC registered a total of 1,682,495 voters, some 400,000 Permanent Voters Cards remained uncollected at at Friday.

NAN also reports that although 48 parties are participating in the election, the frontline candidates are Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic (SDP).

NAN also reports that accreditation and voting commenced about 8 am simultaneously across many polling units

In Osogbo, the state capital, many of the residents had trooped to their polling units as early as 6.am.

NAN reports that at Osunbukola Ward 10 Unit 003 Polling Unit in Egbedore, more than 300 voters were sighted on the queue while accreditation and voting commenced about 8.10am.

There were also some policemen and NSCDC personnel at the polling unit.

The Accreditation Officer at the unit, Mashood Samson, told NAN that the exercise has been hitch-free with the card readers working perfectly.

An official of the Transition Monitoring Group, Dr Abiola Afolabi, told NAN the exercise in the units visited so far has been orderly.

At the Ward 5 Unit 1 Polling Unit in Osogbo Local Government, more than 300 voters were on the queue for accreditation and voting which started at 8.10.am.

An international observer from the National Democratic Institute who simply identified herself as Miss Courtney said the exercise so far has been transparent, an assessment corroborated by Busayo Soyebi of the Centre for Transparent Advocacy.

At the Osogbo Polling Unit 2 Ward 5 inside Osogbo Grammar School, no fewer than 200 voters were sighted waiting to be accredited.

NAN also reports that the exercise was orderly while five policemen and one NSCDC official were sighted keeping vigil.

In Iragbiji, the hometown of the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, there was also a massive turnout.

At the polling units in LA primary School Popo, Ward 1, Oja Oba Town Hall, Ward 2, Osolo Hall, Ward 1 and Oke-Osun, Ward 1B, many of the voters arrived as early as 7:00 am to check their names on the voters’ list.

At exactly 8:24, accreditation and voting started at Polling Unit 2, LA Primary School Popo.

Some voters, however, complained that they could not find their names on the voters’ register.

The INEC Presiding Officer, Mr Lawal Adewale, said they had no challenges at the voting unit as materials arrived early.

He said those complaining they could not find their names on the voters’ register were not at the polling unit to vote

More than 200 voters were at the polling unit made up three voting points to cast their vote.

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Friday in Ibadan, announced his intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement at the maiden Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar Foundation Peace Lecture held at the Trenchard Hall of University of Ibadan.

“You know I am running for the Senate. So, I went to Abuja for the screening exercise of our party and just returned yesterday,’’ Ajimobi said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyo South Senatorial District comprises nine local governments namely: Ibadan South-West, Ibadan North, Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-East.

Others are Ibadan North-East, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa East and Ibarapa North.
NAN reports that Ajimobi, a two-term governor of the state had from 2003 to 2007 represented the same senatorial district in the National Assembly on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The governor is expected to contest the ticket with Dr Fola Akinosun, while the other contender and incumbent, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, was reported to have dumped the APC for African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ajimobi at the event, described the former Head of State, Retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, as a man of peace, integrity and honour, saying he handed over peacefully.

The governor described Oyo State as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, adding that the foundation of his administration was based on peace and security.

Ajimobi also used the opportunity to highlight the tremendous achievements of his administration in the last seven years.

He described the University of Ibadan as the best in Africa, saying the institution had graduated reputable and renowned Africans.

“Unarguably, University of Ibadan remains the best in Africa. It is a world class training institute for postgraduate studies. It has graduated reputable and renowned Africans.

“It is known for human capital development and has above all, been supportive to Oyo State Government in our educational programmes, ’’ he said.

According to The Blast, Thompson claims that she uses magic on her to hold her success for seven years, with her “dark magic” and “magic spells of sexual molestation.”

She also alleges that Queen Bey killed her kitten.


According to Page Six, a judge denied Thompson’s request for a restraining order.

Thompson believes Beyoncé has been taping her phones and controlling her finances. It’s unclear why Thompson believes the singer is allegedly doing all this to her, but she is adamant it all stems from Bey.
