In celebration of women who take their relationships into their own hands, The Huffington Post puts the spotlight on 8 famous women who proposed to their men. In theory, there is no stigma against women proposing to their men. However, the trend is yet to catch on in Nigeria, as ladies still wait for that old-fashioned get-on-one-knee proposal. Only a handful of women have been bold and courageous enough to take the lead and pop the question. In celebration of women who take their relationships into their own hands, The Huffington Post puts the spotlight on 8 famous women who proposed to their men: 1: Judge Judy: Asking the question is a man's job? Let Judy Sheindlin be the judge of that! Television's favorite courtroom personality popped the question to her second husband, Jerry Sheindlin, in 1978. In an interview with DuJour, Judy says, "[H]e tried to weasel out of it... I told him to pick a date. He picked Flag Day." https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/origs3418472/2115565095-w644-h429/Judge-Judy-cbsdrama.jpg 2: Zsa Zsa Gabor: The socialite and actress claimed to have proposed to all nine of her husbands. She started her run early, proposing to her first husband, a Turkish diplomat, when she was only 15. Much later in life, she told her biographer, "I pay all my own bills... I want to choose the man. I do not permit men to choose me." 3: Queen Victoria: The Queen proposed to her cousin, Prince Albert, in 1839. In her diary, she describes how she invited him to her room, where she popped the question. Of that day, she wrote, "I really felt it was the happiest brightest moment in my life." 4: Diane Von Furstenberg: In an interview published in O Magazine in December 2014, Furstenberg told Oprah that she proposed to her current husband, Barry Diller. On his birthday, she called him and said, 'You know, if you want, for your birthday, I'll marry you." The happy couple wed a week later, and have spent 13 happy years together. 5: Elizabeth Taylor: Elizabeth Taylor, who was married a total of eight times to seven husbands, took it upon herself to propose to her second husband, British actor Michael Wilding. According to the Guardian, the two were married in a London registry office in 1952, and had two children before their eventual divorce. Taylor later described the marriage as a calm one: "We had a lovely, easy life, very simple, very quiet." 6: Pink: You wouldn't expect less from pop's most badass chick. According to People Magazine, Pink proposed to her hubby, motocross champion Carey Hart, back in June 2005 -- while he was mid-race! As Hart began his third lap, Pink showed him a sign that read, "Will You Marry Me?" She followed up with a "I'm Serious" sign. Needless to say, he took her seriously and the two tied the knot the following year. 7: Kristen Bell: Kristen Bell proposed to hubby Dax Shepard on Twitter as soon as the Defense Of Marriage Act was struck down in 2013. The couple, who welcomed their first child earlier that year, had decided to hold off on tying the knot until their gay and lesbian friends could do so too. 8: Jennifer Hudson: Boyfriend David Otunga popped the question first, on Hudson's birthday in 2009. So Hudson surprised him on his birthday five months later by proposing right back! She presented him with a one-of-a-kind five-carat engagement ring. The two remain engaged, and have a child, David Jr. http://naijafussion..com |
The death is the second to hit Taiwan in just a fortnight after another man died on New Years' Day after three days of gaming https://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article4996284.ece/alternates/s615/Man-dies-after-three-day-gambling-binge-MAIN.jpg A man was found dead in an internet cafe after a spending three days straight on a marathon gaming binge. It is the second time a man has died from excessive gaming in just over a fortnight in Taiwan The man, known only by his surname Hsieh, was found slumped in his chair in front of a computer having spent around 72 hours playing ‘combat’ computer games at the cafe in Taiwan. The 32-year-old had been spotted by staff and other customers lying motionless in his chair, but they all thought he was sleeping. When a worker went to check on him, they were stunned to discover he was not breathing and immediately called emergency services to the cafe in Greater Kaohsiung. He was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. The worker who found him told the Tapei Times: "Hsieh was a regular customer here and always played for consecutive days. "When tired, he would sleep face-down on the table or doze off slumped in his chair. That is why we were not aware of his condition in the beginning." Doctors who studied his body confirmed that Hsieh died from heart failure and ruled the incident was a “sudden death” brought on from “prolonged computer gaming”. Police chief Weng Chun-neng told the Tapei Times that cold temperatures and over-exhaustion from intense game-playing likely contributed to Hsieh’s demise. GHe said: "We advise people to get up and move around after every two hours of computer gaming. More patrols will be conducted to remind residents about the dangers of prolonged sitting and game-playing.” The death comes just over a fortnight after a 38-year-old man was found dead at an Internet cafe in New Taipei City on New Year’s Day. He died after FIVE days straight gaming and police have revealed their frustration at other customers’ lack of interest in fellow patrons’ wellbeing. A police spokesman said: "We went inside to cordon off the tables and had investigators there to gather evidence. "Only then did the other patrons realise that someone had died, but they still showed no concern and kept playing their games. We were amazed at their nonchalant attitude." http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/man-dies-after-playing-online-games-for.html |
https://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Mercedes-Benz-F015-17-1280x853.jpg Cars are a big part of the CES experience, and this year there’s a bigger push than ever. Mercedes-Benz on Monday unveiled an amazing new concept, the F015, which is an electric/hydrogen hybrid of the autonomous variety—and it looks cool as hell. I think I saw something like this in the awful Total Recall reboot. During the concept’s unveil, Daimler AG chairman, Dieter Zetsche, described that car as a “mobile living space.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPA8yzj6_wc “Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society,” Zetsche explained. Instead of something that merely gets you from Point A to Point B, Zetsche said the F015 is meant to be “exclusive cocoons on wheels,” something that’s more of a mobile living space than simple transportation. And it looks pretty stinking cool. The windshield essentially extends halfway of the length of the car and into the sunroof. It’s more of a silver bullet than something you’d see cruising around the city. Inside, passengers will sit in pedestal-style seats that will automatically rotate 30-degrees when the doors open. There’s also six high-resolution touchscreen display panels, which passengers can easily interact with to stay connected to the outside world. That sounds like a terrible distraction, but Mercedes says these screens can be controlled with gestures, eye movements and touch. http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/mercedes-benzs-f015-looks-like-alien.html |

According to Amnesty International, the Nigerians, 38-year-old Daniel Enemuo, alias Diarrssouba, and Namaona Denis, were convicted of the crimes in 2004 and 2001 respectively, and they are among 5 other condemned convicts who would be executed on the same day. Enemuo was sentenced to death by the Tangerang District Court in September, 2004, for attempting to smuggle 1.150 grams of heroin into the country from Pakistan in January 2004, while the 49-years-old Denis, who was reportedly born in Nigeria but travelled to Indonesia with a Malawian passport, was sentenced by the Bandung High court in 2001 after being convicted of smuggling 940 grams of heroin at the Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta. According to his lawyers, Denis did not understand his trial proceedings as he was not provided with adequate interpretation. Amnesty International reported that the 5 convicts are reportedly going to be executed on Nusakambangan Island while 1 of them is to be executed in Boloyali district, both in Central Java. "Death sentences in Indonesia are carried out by firing squad. The prisoner has the choice of standing or sitting and whether to have their eyes covered, by a blindfold or hood. Firing squads are made up of 12 people, three of whose rifles are loaded with live ammunition, while the other nine are loaded with blanks." This will be the first execution under new, President Joko Widodo, who had pledged during his election campaign that there would be no clemency for drug offenders, despite pleas from the European Union, the Brazilian government and Amnesty International. http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/2-nigerians-face-death-for-drug.html |

The role of the social media in building relationships and businesses cannot be overemphasised. But the negative aspects seem to be growing with mixed reactions after the death of Cynthia Osokogu who was killed by friends she met on social media. https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/0465e26bd35823f662d97d60796e4a4d_XL-600x409.jpg Since the case of Cynthia went viral, ladies who were before now ashamed to share their experiences in the hands of bad guys have started talking. Below is the near-death experience a young lady had with a man who was her BBM friend: I am a girl who has fears, beliefs, reservations and just your regular typical Nigerian girl. This past few weeks has been one hell of a game for me. I have really been unsettled and I thought I share this story with you. When Cynthia (the lady killed in the hotel room in Festac, Lagos) surfaced on the internet and various news media, I was scared and it brought back a whole lot of memories to me and also served as and eye opener. Many people castigated and criticised Cynthia (may her gentle soul rest in peace), but my point is, it could have been anybody, anybody at all. We have met people through various social media. Some have ended up well, some have not but with painful memories. To cut the long story short, let me kindly share with you my encounter with social media especially the very popular Blackberry Messenger (BBM). I am a graduate and currently serving in Kaduna. I could have runced it, but I needed somewhere to clear my head and forget about my ugly encounter. Here is my story. I happened to have a married man as a contact on my BBM. He had been asking me out for over six months and I refused to date him. As time went on, he invited me clubbing with him when his wife was outside the country, and I went with him all night. We spent most of the night at Swe bar, Lagos. I also met his clique of friends, married as well with their various mistresses. We had ‘mad’ fun. After all the clubbing and drinking, he lodged me in a hotel somewhere in Obalende. I felt sort of safe with him. We did not have s e’x, but he made sweet love to me and touched me in places I had never ever imagined. He kissed me passionately but guess what? He did not have s e’x with me. We did all sorts but there was no penetration. So, to an extent, I trusted he was a good person to be around with. I did not know that it was all part of the plan. He gave me N10,000 and put me in a cab to go home the next morning. We kept talking and chatting and sending na k’ed pictures to each other and he told me naughty things of how he wanted to whisper things in my ear, I blushed. We didn’t see for two weeks and that was because his wife just came back from Turkey. One faithful evening, he pinged me that he was organising a beach party/boat cruise and that he would love for me to be his date and that he wanted to open a BBM chat, as a medium for his friends and my friends to interact. I was excited about it, I just wanted to have fun. I was able to get five of my very hot friends. The BBM group opened and we got chatting. I also realise that majority of them were married and working in reputable firms. It was fun and we didn’t mind if they were married, we just wanted to have fun, as well as some other girls apart from my friends in the group. We chatted exclusively, sent pictures to the BBM group to introduce ourselves, and we had opened group conversations pending the beach party. And as excited as we were, we went shopping for nice s e’xy beach wears. The D-day finally came, we all assembled at the Lagos Island Boat Club. I was wowed because it was a high class party. We were cruising in a boat loaded with goodies drinks and hot babes, and as well ‘MARRIED MEN’. I did not care, I just said in my mind that I would not roll with married men anymore after this, that for now, all I wanted to do was to catch some fun. After all, I wasn’t paying bills. We got there, it was a private beach resort. Most of the beach facilities I got to see there were owned by multinational companies. We got out of the boat, and went to where we were partying. It was a duplex made with wood. It was a very nice setting. I felt comfortable because it even had a fence around it separating it from other beach houses around. So, there was privacy and of course bouncers (heavy looking guys) guarding the place. I said to myself, this must be heaven, I must be dreaming. Anyways, we felt free with each other because we had been chatting. It was 5:30pm and the party just started. We had drinks flowing from the private bar tender which happens to be owned by one of the men in the group. Reality struck when I realised that I was feeling dizzy and feeling really funny and light headed. Not only me, but other girls around me too noticed there was something strange about it. I was also feeling Hot as hell! I had been drugged. They monitored us and when they knew the drug had really gone deep into our system, they moved us up into the main beach house. I could still see faces, but was too weak and Hot to react. Mr B, the man who took me clubbing, carried me in his hands like a sacrifice and put me down on the floor just as other men also did with their girls. We were eight in numbers; 8 girls, 8 guys, and they all stri*ped us down and had s e’x with us. I enjoyed it a bit because I was Hot. It was a mixed feeling because I cried, I moaned, but I did not know how many times he came into me. He pounded me hard. I was dizzy, but he grabbed me with force. All I could notice was the wedding ring on his finger. I thought of how wicked and miserable some married can be. How inhuman and heartless they could be. All of them took turns in switching partners and slept with all of us. I passed out. That was the last thing I could remember. I felt water poured on me. I noticed all the other girls around me too were half na k’ed and some stark na k’ed. We spent the night at the beach, but the men were no where to be found. I looked round me and all I could see was packs of used condoms. I ran to pick my cloths and possibly raise an alarm. I got dressed, found my phone with an envelope. It contained N16,000 and a note asking us to take N2000 each for transport. Tears of anger and rage filled my eyes and the girls around me as well. “We were drugged and used like tissue paper. I grabbed my phone and noticed a ping came in. I checked my phone and I noticed the BBM group had been deleted, and a message via BBM from MR B came in. He threatened me that if I say a word to anyone, I would regret it. I told him he was a bastard, and he said try it. A picture came in, several pictures. In fact, they were pictures of us being naked on the floor. Pictures of the humiliating us but they blurred the faces of the men. In total, I got 20 pictures. I was not myself for a month. I went back to school, I had no one to talk to. The rest of the semester was hell for me. My CGPA dropped drastically. It was the worst out of the worst result I ever had. Till today, my friends and I have not discussed this with anyone, but all I could do when I heard of Cynthia’s story was to narrate my own ordeal anonymously and spread the news, the word, and pray they (ladies who do runs) see it and changed their ways. I am now born again. I have given my life to Christ. I fear men so much that I cannot even move close to them. I still have nightmares, but with time, God will strengthen me and I will move on. My advice to single ladies out there is, do not be desperate for fun. Pray to God to open your eyes of understanding, and pray hard. He who kneels before God will stand before kings and queens. To all married women, pray hard to God to intervene in your marriages and turn your husbands from bad habits and bad friends. As for me, I do not think I ever want to get married or date a man again. That chapter has been closed for good in my life. Please, do not ignore my mail. Please post it. There are a lot of things we ladies need to learn. Please post it on your blog and save a soul. It could be your friend, sister, cousin, neighbour. God bless you as you pass it on. To all readers, I do not care if you insult me or rain abuses at me. My job is to share this encounter with you and save you from any mishap. God bless you all. Amen. Source:http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/how-married-man-i-met-on-bbm-almost.html |
APC leader, Bola Tinubu stated this during the campaign for the Lagos-West senatorial district on Wednesday, January 14. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3410452/8302781338-chorizontal-w644/tinubu.jpg Former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has said that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Jimi Agbaje will lose the upcoming elections. Tinubu stated this during the campaign for the Lagos-West senatorial district on Wednesday, January 14. The APC leader also recalled Agbaje’s loss in 2007 saying that he is not a sellable candidate and as such is no match for the party’s choice, Akinwunmi Ambode. “In 2007, we had governorship primary and Fashola won but he (Agbaje) failed and refused to accept the result. I told him to accept the fact that Fashola was more diligent and experienced than him but we told him to remain in the party and we would teach him the way but he refused,” Tinubu said. “You see, when a toddler is trying to run when he cannot even walk properly, his mother has to guide him so that he will not fall and break his teeth. He left and joined the Democratic Peoples Alliance. The DPA presented him as its candidate but he failed, we beat him mercilessly,” he added. Tinubu also spoke on Agbaje’s membership of the PDP describing it as an “Ebola party”. “Later, he wanted to return to the party and we asked him if he would become a commissioner but we knew it was unlikely because he had even refused to be the deputy governor. Before we knew it, he had gone to join the Ebola party. God forbid that Ebola takes over Lagos,” he said. “See where we are coming from and where we are going. They say they want to replace us in Lagos. Someone who cannot take care of himself wants to take care of Lagos. Don’t experiment with Lagos,” Tinubu added. Tinubu also accused Agbaje of lacking political experience adding that he would be unable to manage the economy of Lagos State. These movies stood out in 2014. They created resounding blurbs and buzz in Nollywood. Most of them garnered countless nominations and awards in diverse categories. They metamorphosed movie making in Nollywood into pure cinematic expressions complete with globally accepted standards for full length movies. I found my self taking a second watch at these creative works that kept both offline and online community vibrating with excellent output. Without sounding immodest, these game changer flicks are highly recommended for technical viewership for film makers in Nigeria who need to hone their skills further. Let's look at what made these blockbusters a global hit. 1. Half of a Yellow Sun - Biyi Bandele Half of a Yellow Sun - Drama, action, explosion, cinematic dexterity, excellent role interpretation, method acting etc. I could go on and on. Despite the initial hitch encountered by the producers before releasing this controversial film in Nigeria, it came out pure and true. The wait was worth it. This historical fiction that portrays civil war love affair will remain the film to beat for a long time in Hollywood, sorry Nollywood. Actually, the film was not made for Nollywood quality, just that the director happens to be a Nigerian. Any objection? Speak up with something better or forever remain silent forever. 2. Accident - Teco Benson Accident - The only film director in Nigeria with a national award sure understands the twists and turns of movie making. Teco Benson is adored as a thorough-bred professional whose works speak to creativity enthusiasts in volumes. The release of Accident in 2014 instantly established some actors as headliners in Nollywood. The reason it won the best Nigerian movie award in African Movie Academy Awards is obvious. Please grab a copy of this Thriller of the Year and watch at least thrice. 3. Lagos Cougars - Desmond Elliot Lagos Cougars - This is one of such movies that keep you glued to the screen till the end. The next day, you still want to see it. The untold drama reminds you of those black American feel at home films. The producers dwelt on controversial theme that got the viewing public salivating and asking for more. Complicated seems the perfect description here. Yes, women are a complicated lot. Watch Lagos Cougars again to confirm the cosmopolitan and complicated story produced by Emem Isong. 4. Invasion 1897 - Lancelot Odua Imasuen Invasion 1897 - A historical epic that captures the humiliation of the ancient Bini kingdom is not what you watch on a regular. The premiere of this movie in cinemas across the world evoked a catharsis in the psyche of the British and Binis. Who haven't heard the story of how the British overpowered the Bini Palace with superior arms, forced the king on exile and carted away precious artifacts? Imasuen, a renowned film director from the Bini kingdom has relived this historical account in motion picture for the benefit of generations to come. The globe has since seen the injustice as it is through the lens of Lancelot Odua Imaseun. 5. Onye Ozi - Obi Emelonye Onye Ozi (The Messenger) - With two award winning movies, Obi Emelonye has established himself as a breaker from the norm producer. Onye Ozi, as a classic, flashes a fire of hope in stemming the touted extinction of Igbo language. This Igbo language comedy stars Okey Bakassi as a psycho who bends but won't break. The excitement lies in watching a language movie subtitled in English with all the indices of cinematography. If you chance upon the recently released DVD, do yourself a favour and watch it without delay. The messenger's duty stops at delivering the message. NB: The list can still be increased if you find a movie similar to the quality and acceptance of the above. Welcome to a new movie year. A police corporal who threatened to deal with a prostitute is in hot soup after the lady was found dead the following day. https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/crop3407177/0832789367-chorizontal-w644/Prostitute-Lagos.jpg For not being able to curb his utterances, a police officer attached to the Iponri Police State, Corporal Ahonsi Matthew, is in hot waters after a prostitute he threatened to deal with, Joy Okoye, was found dead a day later with her vital organs cut off, raising suspicions that he may have been responsible for her death. Presently, he is in detention at the Lagos State Police Command and is undergoing questions over the death of the lady. Information from a police source has it that Corporal Matthew had threatened Okoye after she got into with another prostitute who is Matthew's girlfriend, in their brothel at the Adeniji area of Lagos, and being the girlfriend of an officer of the law, the lady had put a call to Matthew who is said to be married with children. Promptly, he left his duty post and went down to the brothel to see the 'ashawo', (harlot), who had the effrontery to fight with an officer's girlfriend. On getting to the brothel, Matthew was said to have flown into a rage and promised to make the place uncomfortable to Okoye though he was restrained from laying a finger on her by other patrons. But trouble was lurking in the wait for him when, the very next day, Okoye's corpse was discovered by other prostitutes in her room with her private organs like breasts, eyes, vagina, tongue and other parts missing from her body. Promptly, they pointed accusing fingers at Corporal Matthew who was arrested and detained, though he denied killing the lady. He is still trying to exonerate himself from the murder rap hanging on his head. Source:http://naijafussion..com/2015/01/mystery-as-prostitute-dies-after-threat.html |

Ijeoma Ugwumba’s euphoric mood over the date she had just shattered when she waltzed into her Lekki apartment one sultry Sunday evening. https://www.informationng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/136776f4fca789462bdf491611b4faec_L-600x450.jpg Speaking with our correspondent, the mid-level federal civil servant says: “I saw a note from my house help, Oluchi (Muoghalu), saying that she had left. Her (mobile phone) number was not going, I called her parents (in Anambara State) and they said they did not see her. I was rushing to keep an appointment with my date, so I gave her N30,000 to pay into the bank for me. When I came back, Oluchi had disappeared with her bags and my money.” “Not only that; she left with my DVD (player), my manicure kit, and even had the audacity to take some of my underwear,” she added. Ms Ugwumba’s four days of an extensive manhunt eventually unearthed Ms Muoghalu in the far away Delta State. She had aborted a pregnancy, unknown to her employee, and eloped with a boyfriend to Asaba. She had also, to Ms Ugwumba’s chagrin, borrowed N10,000 from a neighbour on her employer’s behalf. Ms Ugwumba’s plight represents what a growing number of Lagos residents pass through at the hands of domestic servants. The rapidly growing number of working women and the demands of living in an over populated mega city like Lagos have necessitated the need for hired help to take care of homes and children, in some cases. In downtown Surulere, another resident, Bernadene Ihekweme, got a recent scare when she got home from work, around10pm one night, to find her maid and three children missing. “Apart from my first son, (Jude), the rest are normally in bed by that time. I nearly had a heart attack. I panicked and started calling every neighbour to know where they were,” she said. Her fears were assuaged when it turned out her husband, who works and resides in Abuja, had paid a surprise visit and played a prank on her by whisking the family away. “Normally I shouldn’t have panicked like that, but in this era of maids and houseboys conniving with kidnappers, my brother do you blame me?” added Ms Ihekweme. Her suspicions are equally mirrored by majority of respondents; even in cases where domestic servants have been with their employers for long periods. A few bad eggs spoil the whole basket. Having served her employer for a “loyal” eight years, Kikelomo Olarenwaju, is indignant at the suggestion that her trustworthiness could be suspect. “That one can never happen,” she declared. “My madam (Abisola John-Martins) can never try to suspect me for anything. I have been here for so long that I can’t mess up. In short, I am now a part of the family. My madam has already registered for my JAMB; that is because she now wants me to go to university just like her children.” Emilia Ike is an Economics graduate, and manages a cyber cafe at Aguda, Surulere. She has served as a house help to Cyprain and Geraldine Okwara since 2006. “There was a time I had a problem with madam, but since then I have a very good relationship with them,” she said. “I am very grateful to them; oga sponsored my education from secondary to polytechnic, and even opened this cyber cafe for me to manage. I will stay with them until I marry.” The experts’ advice. Dave Uko, a legal practitioner, believes that some of these house helps that misbehave do so as a reaction to the unfair conditions of labour they might be subjected to. “Some of these people that complain about their maid or house boy did this and that are the cause of their woes,” he said. “What do you expect from a maid who is over laboured and under paid? There are bound to be feelings of resentment in such cases. How many people know that their domestic servants, who are not relatives, are entitled to workmen’s compensation insurance under the Workmen Compensation Act? Domestic servants are human, and should be treated with the utmost respect.” Ms Ugwumba is adamant that she treated her erstwhile maid well, and believes she has been unfairly rewarded. “Now, her ungrateful parents are accusing me of all sorts of rubbish and even threatened my father when he went to their house to explain what happened,” she said.
