Islamic state militants have reportedly executed a man by blindfolding and throwing him off a tower block in Syria for 'being gay'.

The man was said to have been beaten to death with sticks and stones by people who were waiting on the ground floor after he survived the fall.
Daily Mail reports that new images have emerged appearing to show ISIS militants hurling the man off the seven-storey building in the town of Tal Abyad in Raqqa.
The man, who was supposedly being punished for having a 'homosexual affair', apparently survived the fall, but was stoned to death by a waiting crowd at the foot of the tower block.
According to London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of activists on the ground, claims the man was thrown from the building before being beaten to death.
Photographs of the incident appear to show the man - who is thought to be in his 50s - sat on a white, plastic chair while blindfolded.
He is surrounded by at least two masked militants, who are dressed in black clothing and army fatigues.
The man is then thrown from the top of the tower block and one photograph shows him falling towards the ground, head first.
It is believed a 'judgement' was read aloud before he was thrown, which condemned his sexuality and claimed he should be thrown from the highest point of the city as punishment.

The referee at the centre of the controversial penalty decision that helped hosts Equatorial Guinea to reach the Nations Cup semi-finals has been banned for six months, CAF said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rajindraparsad Seechurn of Mauritius has also been excluded from the list of top African officials, effectively ending his international career, the Confederation of African Football added.


The Tunisian team, some of whom attempted to attack the referee after Saturday's 2-1 quarter-final loss after the extra time in Bata, were handed a US$ 50,000 fine but no individual sanctions were announced.

Opponents Equatorial Guinea were also sanctioned for poor security at the match.
CAF's REPORT:

At its extraordinary meeting held at the CAF headquarters In Bata, Equatorial Guinea on the 2ndFebruary, 2015, the CAF Referees Committee reviewed the performance of the referee Seechurn Rajindrapasard (Mauritius) during Match No. 26, Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea played on 31 January 2015 in Bata in the final tournament of the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.

The Referees Committee noted with regret the poor performance of the referee during the match, including an unacceptable failure to maintain calm and ensure proper control of the players during the match.

Hence the Referees Committee decided:
- To end the mission of Seechurn Rajindrapasard as a referee for the Orange AFCON 2015
- To suspend him for a period of six (6) months for poor performance
- To delist him from the CAF “A” Elite Referees panel.

At its meeting at CAF Headquarters in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, on the 3rd February 2015, the Disciplinary Board considered all the incidents and reports of the various officials relating to the match no. 26 Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea played on 31 January 2015.

The incidents noted in the meeting, included a pitch invasion by fans, the aggressive attitude of some supporters in the stands, invading of the pitch after the final whistle by players and substitutes of the Tunisian team - insulting the referee of the match and trying to physically assault him - the regrettable behavior of the president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), Mr. Wadie Jary, entering the field of play and strongly criticizing the referee and CAF; and vandalism by some Tunisian players which included breaking of a door in the locker room area and a fridge.

The disciplinary board also studied two letters sent by the Tunisian Federation dated the 2ndFebruary 2015; the first letter concerning the explanation of the FTF in connection with the above incidents, the second correspondence requesting an investigation.

The second letter clearly suggested that CAF and its officials were questionable and biased against Tunisia in general and that CAF, its officials and committees were devoid of sporting ethics, causing in a premeditated manner the elimination of Tunisia from the Orange AFCON 2015.

The following decisions were taken against the respective parties, Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea:

Tunisian Football Federation
Based on Articles 82, 83, 125 and 133 of the Disciplinary Code of CAF, the Disciplinary Jury of CAF:

- Asked the Equatorial Guinean party to estimate the cost of repairing the damage caused by the Tunisian party at the stadium in Bata and CAF will provide this amount to the Tunisian Federation to cover it.

- Condemned the conduct of Mr. Wadie Jary, president of the Tunisian Football Federation and member of the Organising Committee of the AFCON.

- Imposed on the Tunisian Federation a fine of US$ 50,000 (Fifty Thousand United States Dollars) for the insolent, aggressive and unacceptable behavior of the players and officials of the Tunisian team during the aforementioned game.

- Instructed the Tunisian Federation to send to CAF before February 5th at midnight, a letter of apology for the insinuations of bias and lack of ethics against CAF and its officials, or to present irrefutable evidence to substantiate the accusations of the FTF.

Should the Federation not send this letter of apology or required evidence before the stated deadline, the disciplinary panel would suggest to the Executive Committee of CAF additional sanctions, including the possibility not to accept the participation of the national team of Tunisia in the next edition of Cup of Nations, AFCON, 2017.

Equatorial Guinean Football Federation
Considering the pitch invasion by some Equatoguinean fans and the lack of security measures observed, and based on Article 151 para 2 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, the Disciplinary Jury of CAF imposed a financial penalty of US$5,000 (Five Thousand US Dollars) on FEGUIFUT, and asked them to ensure that all security arrangements are taken to ensure the smooth running of the matches of the semifinals and finals of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.

A new report has listed First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Zenith Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank and Access Bank Plc among the top 500 banks in the world.
The United Kingdom-based magazine owned by the Financial Times, The Banker,and Brand Finance in London, in their annual 2015 top 500 banking brands, also ranked First Bank of Nigeria as the number one banking brand in the country for the fourth consecutive time.

According to a statement by the Country Representative of the magazine in Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ogedengbe, First Bank moves from being number 382 in 2014 to 336 this year.
Zenith Bank moved from 453 in 2014 to 388th position; Guaranty Trust Bank from 422 to 417; while Access Bank made its first entry into the ranking.
The brand value of First Bank has increased to $300m this year from $228 in 2014. According to the Economics Editor of the magazine, Silvia Pavoni, the brand value is “the licensing rate that a third-party would need to pay to use that company’s brand.”
Pavoni also commented on the methodology of the ranking, noting the Brand Finance obtained brand-specific financial and revenue data; modelled the market to identify the demand and the position of individual bank in the context of all other market competitors; established the royalty rate for each bank; calculated the discount rate specific to each bank, taking account of its size, geographical presence, reputation, gearing and brand rating and discounted future royalty stream (explicit forecast and perpetuity periods) to a net present value which is the brand value.
This approach, the Economics Editor said, “is used for two reasons: it is favoured by tax authorities and the courts because it calculates brand values by reference to documented third-party transactions and it can be done based on publicly available financial information.”
Wells Fargo of the United States, the report stated, retained the number one banking brand in the world for the third consecutive year and was followed by banks in China, the United Kingdom and Spain in the first 10. Wells Fargo’s brand value for 2015 was put at $34.9bn as against $30.2bn in 2014, whach showed an increase of $4.7bn.

Raging controversy over the educational qualification of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to contest this month’s Presidential election has been described as a dent on Nigeria and not the former Head of State.
A former Minister of Science and Technology, Gen. Sam Momah, who made the call in an interview with Vanguard yesterday, warned those questioning Buhari’s qualification to bury their heads in shame for trying to denigrate Nigeria before the world.

Momah, who had worked in several formations in the Nigerian Army and as a Principal Staff Officer to Buhari when he was the General Officer Commanding 4th Division in Lagos, described as despicable the current attempt to disparage the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate.
The former minister said it was wrong for some politicians to demonise Buhari, who had undergone several strategic military and educational trainings at home and abroad, including the prestigeous United States War College obtaining a Higher Diploma.
Describing the controversy over Buhari’s certificate as ridiculous, Momah said the action of the promoters of the matter was clearly aimed at distracting Nigerians from the main issues at stake, which they should explain to Nigerians.

Momah said: “Those accusing Buhari of not having the qualification to contest election are simply doing so to distract him. Buhari is one of Nigeria’s best Generals who has trained up to the American War College, graduating with a post graduate diploma.
“I, therefore, find it very petty and offensive for some elements to begin to make noise about Buhari’s qualifications. The people behind this very shameful act should note that they are ignorantly denigrating Nigeria and not Buhari.”

According to Punch, the actor who is still battling with an undefined heart disease, memory and sight loss, has been served an eviction notice by his landlord, ordering him to vacate his residence at 45, Yetunde Brown Street, Gbagada, Lagos.
In a chat with a Punch correspondent who paid him a visit, the'Lost Kingdom' actor recounted the beginning of his ailment.
"something struck me on the left side of my face about eight years ago, when I was heading for the burial ceremony of Pete Edochie’s mother at Nteje in Anambra State.
“I got to the venue of the ceremony and stayed in the town for two days. On the third day, I suddenly found that I could no longer move my body freely. Although I barely managed to get up on my feet, I could not climb up the staircase.
“I had to wait till the following Sunday before deciding to leave for Lagos. But my friend, Edoche, persuaded me to follow him to Enugu where he lived at the time. I slept in Enugu on that day. In the morning I went for treatment in a hospital.
“After the doctor had finished examining me, he stared at me with his mouth half open in shock for a long time.
"When I asked what was wrong, he said I should have been dead. He took my pulse again and then, sweating, said my blood pressure was abnormally high. He said it had risen up to 300 and it was a miracle that I was still alive.”
James now spends most of his time in the premises of a Catholic church near his residence.

FORMER Niger Delta militants seem unrepentant on their widely condemned stand that there will be trouble should President Goodluck Jonathan lose the February 14 election.

Among those who condemned the former militants’ stand is one time Defence Minister Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, who said war mongers should be arrested.
But yesterday, former Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) leader Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) restated the threat he issued along with other ex-militant leaders in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The threat, said to have been issued in the presence of Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson and the Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta, Mr Kingsley Kuku, has been widely condemned.

Tompolo attacked Gen. Danjuma, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and all perceived enemies of President Jonathan, who he insisted must win to avert a crisis.
He said: “Gen. Danjuma and his cohorts should know that I remain resolute on my position in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, that President Goodluck Jonathan must win this election for Nigeria to continue to stay together.”
Besides, Tompolo, in the statement signed by his Media Adviser, Mr Paul Bebenimibo, in Warri yesterday, accused the former Army chief of being behind the stoning of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina and Bauchi states.
Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members were behind the stoning of the President’s convoy in Bauchi.
Tompolo warned that Nigeria was already on the brink of disintegration in the wake of the expiration of the 1914 amalgamation treaty, hinting that the defeat of President Jonathan could be the final nail on the coffin.
Said he: “Gen. Danjuma should be reminded that the devilish treaty that brought the Southern and Northern Protectorates together in 1914 expired last year. Danjuma and his likes, such as Gen. Buhari, Gen. Obasanjo and Mr. Bola Tinubu, should be grateful to President Jonathan who has been keeping this country together.
”If not for President Jonathan, Nigeria would not have been any more. Danjuma and his cohorts should be reminded of the saying that ‘those who live in glass house should not throw stones’.
”The call by Gen. T.Y Danjuma (rtd) to arrest me and other agitators for a better living for the people of the Niger Delta region is an indication that he is behind terrorism in the North eastern part of the country as well as the stoning of President Jonathan’s convoy in Kastina and Bauchi states, because he has never condemned those acts, even though Boko Haram attacked churches and mosques in his home town.
”Is Gen. Danjuma not aware of the peaceful atmosphere when Gen. Buhari visited Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa (home state of the President) states for campaign? Why is it that President Jonathan’s convoy was attacked in Kastina and Bauchi states without any provocation?
“Who is Gen. Danjuma if not for the oil wealth he is enjoying from the Niger Delta? He should be rather arrested for being behind terrorism in the North.
“Where was Danjuma when Mallam Ciroma Adamu threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable, if President Jonathan defeated the All Progressive Congress Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammedu Buhari? Where was this so called statesman when the APC campaign Director General (DG), Mr. Rotimi Ameachi threatened to form a parallel government if President Jonathan wins the 2015 elections? Where was this hypocrite when Dr. Junaid Muhammed, Muhammedu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar all said in separate interviews that the nation will boil if Jonathan won the election in 2011?
“Is it the interest of Nigeria Gen. Danjuma is protecting or his oil bloc in the Niger Delta? Is it the interest of Nigeria Danjuma is protecting or his 50 million dollars donation to Gen. Buhari for his campaign?
”Let Gen. Danjuma and his cohorts know that they will not see any Ijaw man, the Igbos and others to fight on their side if the war that they are planning broke up,” he added.
The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), in a statement circulated by its spokesman, Eric Omare, said the former defense chief’s call fell short of such expected from a statesman, expedition viewed against the background of the fact that he failed to comment while President Jonathan’s campaign train was consistently attacked in some northern states.
The IYC, which claimed to be in the meeting in the Bayelsa state’s Government House where the threats were allegedly issued, also described the reports of threat as misleading as such was never part of the meeting’s resolutions.
The group however called on security agencies in the country to ignore the calls from General Danjuma and the opposition All Progressives’ Congress (APC) for the arrest of the former militant leaders as they were borne out of misleading reports.
“We are surprised that General Danjuma swiftly called for the arrest of Tompolo, Asari and other Niger-Deltans, whereas he has neither condemned nor called for the arrest of those who have been consistently attacking the convoy of President Jonathan in the northern part of the country. General Danjuma’s call is not deserving of an elder statesman who is supposed to be unbiased rather than his obvious bias against the Niger-Delta people. Only yesterday, in Gombe State a supporter of President Jonathan who was pasting his posters was attacked and seriously brutalised. Why has General Danjuma not condemned this dastardly act if he is really an elder statement?
“There was no time at the meeting the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson, with youth leaders and ex-Niger Delta freedom fighters where it was resolved that Niger Delta people would destabilise Nigeria, if President Jonathan fails the February 14, 2015 presidential election. This did not form part of the resolutions of the meeting, which were read out by Hon. Kingsley Kuku for Governor Dickson to transmit to Mr. President.
“The meeting was called by the Governor of Bayelsa State, to solicit support for President Jonathan from Niger-Delta youths and ex-freedom fighters. However, the meeting frowned at and its dissatisfaction with the persistent attack on the campaign convoy of President Jonathan in some northern states when General Buhari, his main opponent, was protected and campaigned freely in the south during his campaign tour. Hence, the meeting condemned in the strongest terms the attack on President Jonathan and resolved that nobody can intimidate President Jonathan out of the presidential race. At the meeting, all the youth leaders and ex-Niger Delta freedom fighters resolved to put their grievances aside and agree to work for the re-election of President Jonathan.
“Therefore, the report on ex-militants threatening to destabilise Nigeria in the event of President Jonathan losing the 2015 election is not part of the resolution of the meeting. The meeting could not have discussed that as we are confident that President Jonathan would win the February 14, 2015 presidential election.
“We, therefore, call on Nigerians and the security agencies to disregard the call for arrest of Tompolo, Asari and others, which is based on a misleading report. The accusation levelled against President Jonathan by the APC is also unfounded,” the statement said.
A former Minister of Defence (State), Dr Rowland Oritsejafor, called for caution over threats on the outcome of next month’s election, stressing that President Jonathan does not support violence.
Oritsejafor, who spoke to reporters in Warri, Delta State, remarked that that the initial threat was reportedly issued at the Bayelsa State Government House does not mean that it was the position of the Governor Seriake Dickson, or that of the PDP.
He said, “I can be invited to Aso Rock and then I make a statement; does that mean that the president supported what I said? Let us be very clear, PDP is a peaceful government with well-respected and responsible people. There is no way the PDP would support violence.
“Some people are making statements. I cannot come and defend those statements because I don’t know from where they are coming and I wasn’t there. However, as far as PDP is concerned, we will pursue peace and it is in our interest to pursue peace.
“So why would we want to invest in violence when we have opportunity to show what we can do? You can hear the President going round, it is all about what he has done and he keeps rolling them out.”
Pressed for reaction on the failure of security agencies and the Federal Government to take action on the threat, Oritsejafor conceded that he “would be worried if nothing is being done about it, but I don’t have the information and you have to be very careful when it comes to security.”
“You don’t know what they are doing, except you have done your investigation. If nothing is being done, that is unfortunate and I need to find out,” Oritsejafor added.
The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, also yesterday, replied Gen. Danjuma in an abusive manner calling for his and other ex-militant leaders’ arrest for making provocative and inflammatory statements on Jonathan’s re-election.
Dokubo-Asari, an indigene of Buguma, the headquarters of the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State and a former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), spoke yesterday by the telephone, said: “Danjuma is a big…

In Dokubo-Asari’s view with the “impressive” performance of President Jonathan, there is nothing to worry about.

Responding to attack on President Goodluck Jonathan by Soludo that he should stop campaigning as he has no testimonial to parade, Director, Media and Publicity of PDP Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode in a statement to Vanguard, Monday noted that the former head of the nation’s apex bank may no longer understand what were on ground having spent much time with those in the camp of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Fani-Kayode said, “I read Charles Soludu’s contribution to the debate with amusement. I will be gentle with him because I have a soft spot for him. He has criticised the President, his government and his handling of the economy.

Michael Wagner’s 3-year-old twin girls, Binh and Phuoc, are both suffering from a rare Alagille syndrome, a disease which affects the function of their livers, meaning they both require a liver transplant.
The Metro UK reports that there is only one match for the two girls who were adopted from Vietnam by Michael and his wife, Johanne, when they were 18-months-old, the donor being Michael himself.
Because of this handicap, he will be only to donate to only one of the twin as there has not been any other donor.

A 70-year-old man in North Carolina, United States of America, Joseph Sledge has been released from jail after he was wrongly convicted of a murder in 1976.
Joseph Sledge was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 74-year-old Josephine Davis and her 57-year-old daughter, Aileen.

After serving nearly four decades in jail, Joseph Sledge was on Friday, January 23 found innocent by a three-judge panel in Whileville, North Carolina.
The three-judge panel was set by the Supreme Court after North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission found there was enough doubt to review Sledge's case.

rigadier-General Ayodele Ojo (rtd), former Director of Procurement in the DHQ said the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki's call for postponement will move the country towards military rule.


He said, “It is a backward step to the dark days of military rule when anti-democratic forces, on the eve of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, were able to secure a dubious injunction from an Abuja High Court restricting the National Electoral Commission from conducting the election.

“This singular act was instrumental to the annulment of the election. It is worrisome that the call, this time around, is coming from a highly placed security official of the Nigerian government. Moreover, the reason given for the postponement is untenable, to say the least.”

Ojo added, “What I think is required is for the Federal Government to declare Friday, February 6, 2015 as a work-free day to enable affected voters the last opportunity to collect their PVCs.

“INEC could also use that weekend before the presidential election as a dress rehearsal. This will require INEC to deploy its entire staff on that Friday and Saturday for the voters to collect their PVCs from the polling units, where they are expected to vote the following Saturday of the presidential election.

“This, I believe, will take care of this problem without resort to postponing the election, thereby creating unnecessary and avoidable crises. This suggestion by the NSA is uncalled for and must be resisted by all Nigerians in order to avoid plunging the country into self-inflicted crisis.”

Police have issued CCTV footage of an armed robbery at a petrol station in Denny in a bid to catch the culprit.
The video shows a masked person brandishing what appears to be a gun before taking cash from the till at the Gulf filling station on Glasgow Road.
Police said the lone female staff attendant was "terrified" by the incident, which occurred at about 21:30 on 21 January.

Officers continue to investigate and have appealed for witnesses.

The suspect, thought to be a man, was about 6ft tall, between 16 and 30 years of age, was of slim or medium build and was wearing dark clothing including a black hoodie with the hood up.
Det Insp Graeme Hendry said officers had been making "extensive" inquiries.
He said: "The response from people in Denny has been magnificent and I am grateful to them, however we have still to identify the person.
"I am sure that someone knows the identity of the person and that they too will be alarmed by the trauma this crime caused the staff at the garage."

Police in Mukono have arrested a woman who gave birth to a baby girl and dumped it in the pit latrine.

Christine Nansimbe a resident of Seeta-Ggwaffu in Goma division, Mukono Municipality was arrested on Tuesday.

Mukono district Police commander Jerome Mwesigwa said that Police was tipped off by Nansimbe’s neighbors who heard the baby crying down in the pit latrine on Monday.

“She dumped her in a 60 feet pit latrine. By God’s grace she was still alive,” he said.

When asked why she dumped the baby in the pit latrine, Nansimbe said that she did not know who the biological father of the baby was after the one she thought was the right father disowned her.

Nansimbe was paraded in a village meeting conducted by the State Minister for the youth Ronald Kibuule who condemned the act and asked Police to charge her accordingly.

Nansimbe’s boyfriend Ronald Ssekitto who was in the meeting said that he left home for some time to work, only to return when Nansimbe was pregnant.
