1. Minimum Wage: FG Gives Labour Fresh Offer to Avert Strike

The Federal Government in a meeting on Wednesday, which lasted till Thursday morning made a new offer to the organised labour to avert industrial action by the workers.

The government had on Tuesday changed position on its proposal for minimum wage consequential adjustment from 11 per cent to 17 per cent for workers on grade levels 7 to 14, and from 6.5 per cent to 12 per cent for those on grade levels 15 to 17.

But Labour, who had insisted on 29 per cent wage increase for workers on grade levels 7 to14 and 24 per cent for those on grade levels 15 to 17, did not accept the offer. However, the Unions shifted ground from 29 per cent to 25 per cent for levels 7 to 14 and from 24 per cent to 20 per cent for levels 15 to 17. FIRST REPORTS gathered that during the meeting that ended this morning, the government further raised its offer to 20 per cent for workers on grade level 7 to 14 and 13.5 per cent for level 15 to 17....

The National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Uyo has dismissed the case filed by the APC and its candidate, Emmanuel Akpan against the election of Mr Nsikak Ekong as member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency.

In a majority judgement read by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice W. O. Akanbi, he agreed that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was justified in cancellation of the ‘illegal wards.’

Senator Godswill Akpabio’s bid to return to the senate has been jeopardized as National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, September 11, upheld the victory of Senator Christopher Ekpenyong.

In what appeared to be the climax of all the Judgements given by the Tribunal, the judges declared Ekpenyong as winner of the February 23 election as pronounced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, describing it as provocative, barefaced subversion of justice.
