I got one today and was required to meet someone on google hangout for an interview and I was being asked some questions though am still on it don't know where it will end. My question now is are they for real or just scammers trying to do some cunny stuffs? Thanks

There are SCAM with a Capital Letter! Flag their job post as inappropriate and immediately report to Upwork support. No serious employer will does that. No serious employer take you out of Upwork except the relationship had been built already - It's against Upwork policy. Those guys want to use your details, they are just scammers trying to do some cunny stuffs. They'll always tell you that they've employed you after an arranged interview on a gmail chat then ask you for further personal details. There are time wasters, seize further communication with them and block them from contacting you either on Upwork or your email.

No, it is not compulsory. I'll suggest that you instead build your portfolio/profile and refer client to them. Attaching your work sample related to a job post may throw more light on your capacity to tackle the task, but it is not vitally important. Getting picked for an interview reflect more on your relevant skill to the job post, reviews from past work, work history, education, and a befitting proposal tailored to the job post (not generic). I think if all these are intact, attaching your work sample will just be an icing on the cake.

Why did you go to Upwork community to comment knowing that your English grammar isn't good and use of the word (I) calls for questions. You are suppose to be a writer, right? (My brother Upwork isn't for a mediocre person). The person that advised you was right. Think about it... Put yourself in the shoes of an employer, will you hire a freelancer who writes these?

Upwork have a team that examines all new profiles, before the profile goes live on the platform, most especially if you're a freelancer from this part of the world.

Your first mistake was to register a profile with faulty use of the English language as a "Writer". The second mistake was to comment on Upwork Community - Those mods must have examined your complaint and seeing you're not an ideal writer, ensured your profile doesn't get approved.

Now my advice: Register to less English tasking skills like Data Entry etc. If you still want to do writing, please do some studies, google is your friend. Ensure you know how to us the Capital Letter "I", don't abbreviate words like because, use apostrophes in words like " I'm", "don't", I've . However, ensure you're using your true identity as a Nigerian, as one of my diagnosis was that you tried to use a foreign IP that when wrong.

As an advice to others, please if you're commenting on Upwork Community, make sure you have no skeleton in your cupboard. Upwork officials are not jokers.

@toch1997 please install grammarly on your browser or subscribe for a paid version on their website, if you want to be a writer- after you've undergone self studies. I hope you'll not take my comment the wrong way. I think the truth is more sour, than bitter. I'll help you if you'll first help your self.

What do I need to do? When you make adverts for jobs like this, you need to be very specific in your posts. You should have stated exactly what is to be done with the email address you posted. Is is to send a CV? Or just to send a message like: "I'm interested:? Or just to send a mail with our contact details? All these could be part of what it means to send applications, depending on the nature of the job. That is how it works, brother. And there is nothing wrong in responding to the pm sent to you. Nice day.

Tell him to kindly approve payment, end the contract and then leave a good recommendation to Upwork about your work and 5 star review on your profile. Explain to the client that you're new to Upwork and you're trying to build a credible profile on Upwork community. Some client understands and will follow suit. Just pacify them - Tell the client that you'll reciprocate with an excellent review to their profile, however, a good job speak for itself, most client will give you a 5 star without you asking. Nonetheless, from my experience, is wise to politely ask them if they are willing to proceed with the contract (especially if it is a onetime project). If their response is "no", then ask that they end the contract and leave a good recommendation both to Upwork and a 5 star review on your profile.
