...Says Gombe will Continue to Work with Varsity to Provide Quality Education to the People

...Warns Agents of Doom to Desist from Fanning Embers of Disunity

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says his administration will continue to work in partnership with the Federal University of Kashere, FUK in a manner that the varsity can keep providing quality education to the people of the State.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this when he granted audience to the joint delegation of FUK management and the Presidential Visitation Panel to the university led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Umar Pate at the Council Chamber of the Government House.

The Governor assured that Gombe State Government under his leadership will continue to support the University based on the fact that the institution does not only provide tertiary education to the people of the State but also employment to its citizens.

He said the presence of the Federal University of Kashere in Gombe has helped greatly in reducing the risk attached to distant travels in search of tertiary education and has ultimately provided less financial obligations on parents who will rather patronize the institution than send their children very far to acquire university education.

On some of the challenges confronting the University, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya assured the management of the institution that his administration will do everything necessary to ensure that the varsity is allocated additional land for expansion.

On request by the University to have a link with the Leventis Foundation in Tumu for its sugar research programme, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the initiative was in line with his administration's Agricultural Entrepreneurship Training Centre, saying his administration will look at the best way possible to collaborate for optimal results.

He said despite the paucity of funds being experienced by the State, in the midst of multitude of demands, his administration will remain resolute towards supporting the University, as according to the Governor what goes into the Federal University of Kashere will eventually trickle down to the people of the State.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya used the forum to advise secessionists and agents of doom to desist from fanning embers of disunity in the country, describing the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria as non-negotiable.

He said what Nigerians want is an improvement on what God has endowed the country with so that everybody can have a sense of belonging and ownership in the affairs of the country

Earlier speaking, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Kashere, Professor Umaru Pate said they were at the Government House to officially introduce the new management of the University and to intimate the Governor on the vision of the new team going forward.

This vision as explained by Professor Pate is to develop the University and to consolidate on past achievements in the institution, saying anything less will not be accepted by his leadership.

Professor Pate said as a young institution, the Federal University of Kashere is desirous of development where its certificate can be respected, research work noted and its scholars acknowledged any where in the world.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Presidential Visitation Panel to the Federal University of Kashere, Dr. Mac John Nwobiala said the 6- man panel will appraise the performance of the institution in terms of leadership qualities of the Vice Chancellor, principal officers and governing councils with a view to ascertaining the extent to which they have fulfilled their mandate for public good during the period under review spanning ten years.

May Day: Gombe Governor Salutes Nigerian workers,Tasks them to Show More Commitment, Dedication to Duty

...Says Government Working Hard Towards Repositioning Civil Service for Efficiency, Improved Service Delivery

...As NLC Lauds Governor Inuwa for Prompt Payment of Salaries, Pensions

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has charged workers in the state to exhibit commitment and dedication to duty even as he assured that his administration will continue working hard towards repositioning civil service for better efficiency, improved service delivery

Governor Inuwa Yahaya gave this indication while addressing workers in the State to mark this year's International Workers' Day Celebration at the Pantami Township Stadium.

The Governor described the theme for this year's workers day celebration, “COVID – 19 Pandemic, Social and Economic Crisis: Challenges for Jobs, Social Protection and Peoples Welfare” as apt and timely because of the significant labour, economic and social disruptions caused by the pandemic.

He noted that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and associated measures such as lockdown have led to loss of jobs, transition to remote work and productivity losses, saying governments all over the world are experiencing economic downturn, and are struggling to pay salaries and meet the welfare needs of their workers.

He however said, "In Gombe State, we have been able to continue the payment of salaries to workers and monthly pension to retirees as at when due. Moreover, we are also able to pay billions of naira to settle outstanding pensions and gratuities inherited from previous administration, our intention is to clear all outstanding pensions and gratuities because we believe that our civil servants deserve to live in comfort and dignity after retirement".

Governor Inuwa Yahaya used the occasion to commend the leadership of the organized labour for their resillence as well as support and cooperation on issues affecting workers and the general progress of the State.

He assured them of his administration's unwavering commitment to provide socio-economic development to improve the well-being of people.

"As we are all aware, the Civil Service is the engine room for the implementation of Government policies and programmes. It is in consideration of this that our administration is working hard towards repositioning the civil service for better efficiency and improved service delivery. To this end, we have established the Bureau of Public Service Reforms to spearhead the transformation of our civil service. We are also embarking on ambitious housing projects to cater for the welfare needs of our civil servants".

The Governor said he is fully aware of the challenges affecting workers in the State, noting that since assumption of office, his administration has been working with the NLC leadership on how to better improve the welfare and working condition of the state's civil servants.

He explained that Gombe State is among the first States that implemented the 30,000-minimum wage, though it had to suspend it due to the pandemic and eventually bring it back as promised, immediately after the economic situation had stabilized.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya called on civil servants to demonstrate commitment and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities, saying Government will not condone the culture of laziness and ineptitude that characterized the service over the years.

Earlier in his address, chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Gombe state chapter, Comrade Muhammad Adamu Musa explained that workers day celebration is to commemorate the struggles of workers around the world for the advancement of their rights to humane condition of work and enhanced welfare.

The Gombe NLC chairman lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the prompt payment of workers salaries and pensions as well as the restoration of the 30,000 minimum wage to workers in the State which was earlier suspended due to a dip in the economy occasioned by the covid-19 Pandemic.

Comrade Adamu Musa also praised the Governor for the release of 1.5 billion naira and the 775 million naira respectively for the payment of first and second tranches of gratuities arrears to retired civil servants in the State.

He appealed to the Governor to consider the extension of the 30,000 minimum wage to local Government workers in the State.

On his part the controller of labour in the State, comrade Magaji Lamido said the rights of Trade Union is guaranteed under a democratic environment and therefore want to pursue their demands within the confines of the law.

Highlights of the occasion include march pass by the industrial unions and cultural performance.

It will be recalled that the state Commissioner of Finance, Muhammad Gambo Magaji had earlier announced that no fewer than 668 workers in Gombe State have been suspended from the payroll following the commencement of the implementation of biometrics.

He said the affected workers did not show up for verification after the commencement of the enrollment, hence their suspension from the payroll.

The commissioner said 431 workers from the 84 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the state were affected.

He said the biometrics had been piloted in two local governments – Gombe and Akko – and also in the Local Education Authority (LEA) of both local governments.
According to him, in Gombe LG, a total of 103 staff didn’t show up for the biometrics comprising 44 LG staff and 59 LEA staff.

....As SEC Approves Recapitalisation of Bubayero Micro Finance Bank, Payment of Compensation for Property Owners Earmarked for Some Road Projects

...Govt Spent over 4. 3bn for Operations, Maintenance of Water Supply Process Since Inception in May 2019; SEC reveals

The Gombe State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya also approved the recapitalisation of the Bubayero Micro Finance Bank to a shareholding capital of 500 million Naira by April ending of 2021 and subsequently to 1 billion Naira ordinary shares by April next year.

Speaking in specifics, the Commissioner of finance and economic development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji stressed that the recapitalisation of the Bubayero Micro Finance Bank was in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN's policy and directive to all Micro Finance Banks in the country to recapitalize or risk being shutdown.

He said the Bubayero Micro Finance Bank, which is jointly owned by the State and Local Governments in the State, provides a financial life line to citizens of the State who cannot approach conventional banks for credit facility and other financial services, saying it is in view of this that the State Executive Council deemed it fit to swiftly act in the interest of the people and in accordance with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's disposition.

Also shading light on matters discussed under the purview of his Ministry, the Commissioner of lands and survey, Usman Jafun Biri said Council approved over 200 million naira for payment of compensation to individuals and companies who's property will be affected by the 3.39 kilometres London Maidorawa-Alkahira-Arawa and Layin Shehun Brema- Bolari- Izala to State New Lodge roads.

He said considering the humongous amount being spent by the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya in the provision of water to the people of the State and the paltry sum of 18 million generated as revenue, the Gombe State Government will soon come up with a technologically driven method of pay as you consume while expanding the supply of water networks across the state.

PoliticsGov Yahaya Meets NASS Committee On Aviation, Seeks Support For Gombe Airport by vigopress(op): 9:30am On Apr 27, 2021
26th April, 2021

Gombe Governor Hosts National Assembly Joint Committee on Aviation

...Says his Administration will Work with NASS towards Upgrade of Gombe Airport to International Standard

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says his administration will work with the National Assembly and relevant authorities to ensure the take over and standardization of the Gombe Airport by the Federal Government such that the state can leverage on what it generates to provide more services to the people.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this when he granted audience to members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Aviation led by Senator Smart Adeyemi and Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, Chairmen of Senate and House of Representatives committees on Aviation respectively.

The Governor described the services rendered by the Gombe Airport as National and International and therefore aligned with standardization of the airport through its complete take over by the Federal Government since the State does not have enough resources to do so.

He said any improvement on the Gombe Airport is not only to the State economy and social wellbeing but that of the North East sub-region and the country as a whole.

"We shall go to any length to see that we get reprieve with this Airport and to see that there is an improvement on it for the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria".

The Governor described the mission of the National Assembly Joint committee on Aviation to Gombe as a milestone for the people of the State and by extension the entire country, saying of all the previous efforts by successive administrations that changed the fortunes of Gombe and brought the state to limelight, the Airport stands out as one undisputed asset.

He however observed that despite the development the Gombe Airport brought to the State, the facility has placed huge financial burden on the state because Government has consistently supported and funded it since establishment.

"We financed the establishement of the Airport and we are equally financing its operations and is becoming very cumbersome on the State Government, especially in view of the current financial squeeze occasioned by covid-19 and the downturn of the economy that affect Gombe State".

He said the Gombe Airport, which is very strategic in view of our location, has continuously served the people of the State and Nigerians in different capacities, noting that the last of such services was the movement of the covid-19 vaccine to the State.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said his earlier interface with the Chairmen of the Aviation committees of the Senate and House of Representatives was aimed at pushing for take over of the facility by the Federal Government in order to standardize the facility and remove its burden on the state Government.

He noted that being the second to the last on the Federation allocation table, Gombe needs all the support it can get to relief itself from its financial burden and leverage on the resources therein to provide services to the people.

"We are very proud of what we are doing, this is a government of change, it is a government of reform and whatever we are doing is touching on the lives of the people, so if the Federal Government takes this Airport we shall leverage on whatever we get to do more for the people and the Airport in particular and the aviation sector in general will do better".

The Governor told his guests that only recently the Nigerian Airforce embarked on setting up of a forward operational base in Gombe, known as combat reconnaissance group, owing to the centrality of the State in the North East and the advantages the State has in military operations especially in a region plagued by insurgency.

Earlier speaking, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi said they were in the State to inspect the Gombe Airport and to have a true picture of its challenges because as legislators they have the mandate to look at the budget and call the attention of the Federal Government on areas of needs.

He said the Aviation industry plays a key role in the socio-economic development of any nation, hence the need for the NASS members to embark on facility tours across the country with a view to coming up with legislative interventions that will see to improving and securing airports across the country.

Senator Adeyemi commended the progressive disposition of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya which he said is evident in the well built roads network and layouts as well as cleanliness of the state capital among other developmental strides by his administration.

Also speaking, the Chairman, House committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji described the presence of the Airport in Gombe as very important and strategic considering the centrality of the State in the North East subregion.

He said the National Assembly Joint committee will spare no effort towards ensuring that the Federal Government takes over the Airport so that it can be improved upon to have a cargo terminal.

The National Assembly members were later led on a facility tour of the local and international wings of the Airport by Gombe state Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau.

Governor Inuwa Says Efforts by his Administration to Set up Robust Health System Yields Positive Results

...As Governor Hosts Governing Board of GSPHDA

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa says the establishment of the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Agency and the State Hospital Services Management Board by his administration was for the two bodies to compliment each and every aspect of the health sector to give the people of the State a robust health system they so desire.

The Gombe State Governor stated this when he played host to the Governing Council of the Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (GSPHDA) led by its Chairman, Dr. Ya'u Ahmed Kashere at the Council Chamber of the Government House.

He noted that the resolve by his administration to reposition the health sector in the State is premise on its importance to human survival, growth and development, adding that the efforts, through Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency have started yielding results.

" The efforts we are making with regards to the improving on the health sector is because primarily healthcare comes first, without good health nothing moves forward ".

" So we are happy that what we are doing has started yielding results. Going by what we met on ground or what we indicated we will do for the people based on our manifestos, we have achieved a lot. We can now boast of having at least one functional primary healthcare centre in each of the 114 wards of Gombe State. These are solely the efforts of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and all of us here so we jointly congratulate each other".

He disclosed that he has approved the commencement of housemanship in the state Specialist Hospital to train young medical Doctors, thereby boosting the manpower needs in hospitals across the State.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the challenge at hand which equally needs the support of the board members to address, was that of personnel who before now were randomly recruited, especially at the local government level without recourse to their academic background but for the benefits in the form of salary and allowances in the health sector.

The Governor however said current efforts by his administration to digitize attendance of civil servants in the state will bring to an end the inherent anomalies and open the window for recruitment, saying without the correct manpower it is going to be difficult to achieve meaningful results.

He said until these steps are taken towards putting square pegs in the square holes, Gombe cannot move fast to catch up with other advanced states across the country.

The Governor commended the board members for their dedication and commitment to duty, assuring them of his administration's support to take the health sector to the next level.

Earlier, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (GSPHDA) Dr. Ya'u Ahmed Kashere said they were at the Government House to commend the Governor for his unprecedented intervention in the health and other sectors across the State and to bring him up to speed with some of the efforts they are making to complement his giant strides.

He said the renovation and upgrade of the Specialist Hospital Gombe and construction of others as well as the establishment of the State Contributory Management Agency and that of Hospital Services Management Board are clear testimonies of the Governor's undying commitment to revamping the health sector.

Dr. Kashere noted that aside from the massive infrastructural development in the health sector, the Governor has equally done exceptionally well in his transformation agenda of social reconstruction, economic revitalization and infrastructural development for the overall benefit of the people of the State.

He informed the Governor that the board has since inaugurated committees on Policy/Advocacy, Welfare/Training and Infrastructure aimed at addressing challenges uncovered in their meetings with relevant stakeholders across the state.

Gombe Governor Parleys Reps' Ad-hoc Committee on Tank Farm Relocation

...Says Gombe Will Work with NASS to Ensure Safety of Lives, Property of Citizenry

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says the many needless confrontations within the country could have been avoided if there were deliberate efforts to build strong institutions that will ensure enforcement and compliance in access, layouts as well as law and order.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya was speaking when he received in audience, members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee on Tank Farms Relocation and Gas/Filling Stations Compliance led by its Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha Aliyu.

The Governor regretted how people abandon their responsibilities and allow lack of planning to take precedence through the citing of highly inflammable depots within neighbourhoods despite its maximum risk to lives and property.

"The need for us to comply with development planning and control is key, whatever this committee will do I think emphasis has to be made in adopting the concept of layouts instead of carve out"

He told the Reps members that development control currently being championed by his administration will not allow the flagrant abuse of or citing of tank farms or any other establishment that could be injurious to the survival of the people and their property.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the establishment of the Gombe State Geographic Information System (GOGIS) and the restructuring of the Urban Development Board into an Authority were done to entrench development control and compliance in the interest of the people of the State.

He added that as a reformatory Government, the issuance of Order no 4 was another proactive step taken by his administration to ensure compliance in the area of urban centre demarcation.

The Governor observed that the LPG depots that sprang up in Gombe metropolis are sandwiched between houses or business areas making them a danger to lives and properties as can be seen in other states across the country where inferno resulting from tanks farms and LPG depots led to loss of many lives and property.

He noted that successive governments placed emphasis on carve outs instead of layouts, a situation the Governor said is not only dangerous to the tenets of development but also infringes on the rights of way and those of the people which often lead to conflicts.

He blamed the insecurity bedeviling on lack of proper planning and control, saying the encroachment of cattle routes to felling off of grazing and forests reserves as factors responsible for farmers/ herders conflicts degenerating into banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling.

"So this committee is very important and we welcome you to Gombe because you found us on our reformatory kits, we are embarking on these reforms because we believe that is the key for a sustainable development and the key for peaceful coexistence within our people in the state and within the country".

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said his administration has no option than to right the wrongs of distorted development plan in the State which is the hallmark of any responsible and responsive government, adding that the State will collaborate and cooperate with the committee towards adoption and subsequent implementation of its report.

Earlier, the Chairman, House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Tank Farms Relocation, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha Aliyu said the 38 member committee was set up by the House following complaints by Nigerians that the indiscriminate setting up of highly inflammable depots is posing danger to the lives and property of the people.

He said the committee has been mandated to investigate the compliance level of these facilities in relation to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) guidelines and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) right of way in some pilot states in which Gombe is one.

Hon. Ibrahim Aliyu thanked the Gombe State Government for the hospitality accorded to his committee and praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for the uncommon transformation of the State through his road network eleven hundred project, the Gombe Goes Green and massive control of monstrous gullies within and outside the State capital among others.

Gombe Governor Inaugurates Commission of Inquiry on Billiri Violent Protest

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has inaugurated a commission of inquiry to investigate the root cause of the Billiri violence which erupted between the 17th and 20th February 2021 over the appointment of Mai Tangle.

In his address at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Yahaya said the commission of inquiry was constituted following the violent protests that resulted in deaths of innocent persons, damage and destruction of valuable property including residential houses, business premises and Mosques thereby causing the displacement of families and Commercial activities.

He explained that, "You may recall that following the death of his Royal highness the Mai Tangle, Abdu Buba Maisheru, the state government directed the Kingmakers of the Tangale Traditional Council to commence the selection process of the successor, however before the government could finalise and make pronouncement on the new Mai Tangle, some unpatriotic elements began an Endsars-type protest (codenamed #LockdownBilliri) by blocking the Gombe-Yola federal highway and other entry points into Billiri local government and thereafter some unscrupulous elements hijacked the protest and turned it to a violent one with the support of unpatriotic purveyors of fake news via social media"

He said the protests erupted even before government took decision on who to appoint but stressed that one undeniable fact is that spread of fake news contributed immensely in the escalation of the violence.

"Some people may be tempted to conclude that the crisis emanated from the choice of a new Mai Tangle even though the protests erupted even before the government took a decision on who to appoint. Some may be tempted to give the crisis a religious or political coloration or both.”

He said it is in light of this that the Gombe state government strongly believes that determining the causes of the crisis is needed in order to sanction those involved and take necessary measures to prevent future occurrence.

Therefore, the Governor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him as Governor by section 2 of the Commission of inquiry law, constituted the Commission of inquiry into Billiri violent protests with the following terms of reference: to find out the remote and immediate causes of the violent protests; identify person or group of persons who sponsored, procured, instigated or encouraged the violent protests and to recommend sanctions or remedial measures against such person or group of persons; receive and investigate complaints from victims or the families of victims.

“Make appropriate recommendations to government on measures and means of preventing the future occurrence of violent protests and how to make perpetrators account for their acts,” among others.

Governor Yahaya urged members of the commission to be thorough and fair in discharging their assigned responsibilities while calling on the people to assist the commission with honest, useful and genuine information.

He noted that in order to cushion the effects of the violent protests, the state government recently distributed a “considerable quantity of palliatives to the people directly and indirectly affected by the crisis”.

He added that the Commission of inquiry is comprised of people of impeccable character drawn from diverse professional backgrounds with Retired Justice Mahmud Gurama as Chairman.

Members are: Retired AIG of Police Zubairu Mu'azu, Barr Mahmud Bappa Aliyu, Sharon Faliya Cham and Rev Bitrus Urbanus Thaba.

Others are : Abdulhamid Salisu Bello, Victoria Mamuda Usman, Barr Robert Wabida as Member, Abdullahi Jalo (Castic), Dr Ya'u Ahmed Kashere while Barr Musa Sa'idu Secretary and H.N Nwoye ESQ will serve as Secretary and Counsel to the Commission respectively.

Earlier in his welcome address, Secretary to the state government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi reminisced over some of the measures earlier taken by the state government, including imposition of curfew, stakeholders' engagements and other steps in stabilizing the situation in Billiri. While congratulating the members, the SSG called on them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the Governor.

The commission has sixty days to submit its report.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya Presides over State Executive Council Meeting

....As SEC approves 1.4 bn for Procurement, Installation of Biometric Equipment

The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the sum of 1.499 billion naira for the procurement and installation of biometric equipment for the State Integrated Payment Gateway and Human Resource Management System aimed at checkmating absenteeism in the civil service with a view to ascertaining the precise number of civil servants working and also to know the required workforce for fresh recruitment.

The meeting, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya also considered and approved over six hundred million naira for the renovation and remodelling of Bajoga General hospital in Funakaye local government area.

Briefing newsmen on other details of the meeting, the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Julius Ishaya Lapes said the Council equally deliberated and condemned in strong terms the communal clash between the Waja and Lunguda tribes of Balanga Local Government Area in which Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya wasted no time in visiting the affected communities and taking measures to forestall further escalation of violence.

The Commissioner of finance and economic development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji had while giving more insight on the procurement and installation of Biometric equipment for the State Integrated Payment Gateway and Human Resource Management System, said the measure was to check the excesses of civil servants who do not report to duties in their places of work.

He said it is common knowledge that some civil servants stay in other towns and cities across the country but receive monthly salaries of the Gombe State Government without justification, explaining that the Biometric system will put a stop to such practices and give Government value for its spendings.

The Commissioner said when fully installed, the system will eliminate imaginary workers and save a substantial amount of money for the State government to use in other areas of needs.

"The biometric system was piloted in Gombe LGA and about 23 million naira was realized as left over, the same way the biometric assisted in uncovering nearly 700 ghost pensioners on the state payroll over the years. These 2 factors encouraged state government to opt for the biometric system".

Also Speaking in specific terms on a matter discussed at Council which falls under the purview of his Ministry, the Commissioner of Water Resources, Mijinyawa Yahaya said the State Government has carried out a feasibility study with a view to expanding the supply of water to areas that have not been covered with taps.

He said the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will soon come up with taskforce that will not only encourage the citizens of the State to pay for services they enjoy, but also compel those who are in the habit of evading the payment of utilities to comply.

He said in view of the present economic crunch, the State Government can no longer afford to spend about 1 billion in annual budget for the provision of water without a commensurate payment of water bills by the consumers.

"Plans are also underway to install meters so as to gauge the water consumption of our clients in a way that each client pays what he consumes"

The Commissioner of Housing had equally told newsmen that Council approved over six hundred million naira for the renovation and remodelling of Bajoga General hospital and subsequently general Hospitals in Kaltungo and Kumo in Akko LGA may have similar Council's approval in the next sitting.

He said it is the intention of the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reposition the health sector for better and effective service delivery.

Gombe Governor Flags-off Statewide Distribution of Palliatives to Poor, Vulnerable Families

...Targets over 60, 000 Households Across Gombe State

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says his administration will continue to champion policies that give citizens in the State the opportunity to have access to good governance through the provision of life supporting interventions especially in times of need.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this at the flag-off ceremony of phase two of the Statewide distribution of palliatives to poor and vulnerable households in Dukku Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor said the distribution of the relief materials is a tradition of his administration aimed at addressing the hardships faced by the people during the current covid-19 Pandemic and also individuals affected by flood disaster and the over 2000 victims of the recent Billiri crisis.

He said the State Government under his leadership had before the flag-off of the phase ll of the Statewide distribution of palliatives, expended the sum of 775 million on the procurement and distribution of palliatives to the people of the State to cushion their sufferings.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya who reiterated his administration's commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of the people, said his Government will continue to work within available resources to address the needs and concerns of the people to which he swore to serve irrespective of social, religious or political affiliations.

He said to ensure justice and fairness in the distribution of the palliatives, his administration has put machinery in motion so that the materials get to the intended beneficiaries at the local, ward and polling unit levels.

The Governor revealed that in the year 2020, his administration was able to reach out to over 65 thousand poor and vulnerable households across the State with not less than 6 persons in each of the targeted households, adding that the phase ll of the distribution exercise also targets same number.

He said his administration will always insist on meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people and not stay aloof and watch materials meant for the citizens being siphoned by the previledge in the society.

"My administration is for the masses and we are here to work and better their lives. We shall also come up with realistic plans that can boost their economic status so that they can in turn help the government and those still struggling at the rungs of the ladder".

On some of the request made by the Chairman of Dukku Local Government Area, the Governor said his administration is not unmindful of water scarcity in the area hence his collaboration with the Federal Government's PWASH programme and the resuscitation of RUWASSA by his government to address the challenges of water in Dukku, Kwami, Furnakaye and Balanga Local Governments of the State which he observed are the worst hit areas.

He expressed the hope that with these interventions by his administration, the challenges of water scarcity will in no distant time be a thing of the past in the worst hit Local Government Areas of the State.

The Governor equally assured the people of Dukku Local Government Area of his administration's commitment to ensure that the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve is pursued to its logical conclusion for the benefit of the people of the State, saying a road to link Gombe Abba to Alkaleri in Bauchi State will also be constructed to create easy access.

"Let me assure the people of Gombe that the State Government under my leadership will ensure that every locality gets road network, schools, water and health care facilities. All we seek is the cooperation and understanding of the people".

Earlier speaking the chairman, Gombe State Palliative Distribution Committee, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau said to ensure equity, justice and fairness in the exercise, the State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya constituted his committee which subsequently birthed the local, ward and polling unit committees.

These committees as explained by Dr. Daniel Jatau, who is also the State Deputy Governor of the state, were so constituted to ensure that the relief materials get to the intended beneficiaries without any form of diversion.

He said each of the beneficiaries will go home with 10kg of rice, 2kg of sugar and one carton of either indomie or spaghetti, saying this same package is to be given to each beneficiaries across the State.

The Chairman, Dukku Local Government Council, Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for not only choosing Dukku for the symbolic exercise, but his compassion for the poor and vulnerable in the society as well as passion towards repositioning the State to be a beacon in the north East.

Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulkadir Rashid II said the flag-off of the phase ll of the Statewide distribution of palliatives to the poor and vulnerable households in the State is not only timely, but an indication that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is a leader that has the people at heart.

He called on the people not to relent in supporting the policies and programmes of the Inuwa Yahaya- led administration for the good of the Dukku Local Government Area and by extension the entire state.

Gombe Rice Pyramid: Buhari Flags-off North East Rice Cultivation Programme

...Commends Governor Inuwa for Keying into FG's Agricultural Revolution, Reviving Cotton Production

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the revolution in rice production across the country as a product of his administration's clear sighted policy and the deligent execution of it by institutions of state such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The President gave this indication at the Commemoration of the national rice festival and the flag-off of the North East 2021 and 2nd cycle 2021 dry season rice cultivation programme and 2020 wet season harvest aggregation and sales of paddy to millers held in Gombe.

Represented by the Kebbi State Governor, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, the President expressed gratitude to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN for solving the problems of financing in Agriculture and State Governors for championing the cause of rice production and other agricultural commodities, singling out Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for special commendation for reviving the cotton value chain for which the State was once known for.

The President said despite limited resources his administration has achieved monumental results in the Agricultural production and its value chain, saying a lot of infrastrastural projects that will galvanize economic activities are being undertaken across the country for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya said but for the policy direction of the President and the sound support of the CBN, the heaps of rice pyramids on display would not have been possible.

"The pyramids are back and we are happy to see this and let me recall that only in January the Management of Central Bank with the National Cotton Association were here in Gombe and they kick-started the aggregation process of cotton farmers who equally paid the facilities they took in kind to signal the return of cotton production".

He said Gombe state is a shining example in the anchor borrower programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria owing to the fact that farmers in the State are poised on taking advantage of the programme to boost agricultural production and eventually pay in kind facilities obtained to maintain sustainability.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said Gombe State has a favourable climatic condition for the production of sorghum, sesame seeds, and other Agricultural commodities, making it a perfect destination for Agriculture revolution in the North East sub-region.

"Gombe is an agrarian State, with 85% of our people engaged in farming activities. Agriculture is therefore an important source of livelihood to our people and the bedrock of our economy"

"Gombe has tremendous potentials in rice production. We have three major Dams in Dadin Kowa, Balanga and Cham. We are working with UNIDO to tap into those potentials for both irrigation agriculture and hydropower generation. Our Government is working on the Gombe State Industrial Park in Dadin Kowa. The park has a huge Agricultural Industrial Park section that’s geared towards commercial production and processing of agricultural products".

He said the support farmers in the State got from the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN enabled them to produce en mass, leading to the realization of the rice pyramid on display at the tanker bay along Gombe/Bauchi road.

The Gombe State Governor, said the State is open and ready to key into any initiative that will assist farmers have access to facilities and inputs that will improve their capacity to engage in the production of Agricultural commodities.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for displaying leadership in the nation's march towards food sufficiency, as the nation can now boast of eating what it produces and produces what she eats.

The Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar said the rice pyramid on display is an indication of the commitment and steadfastness of President Muhammadu Buhari through the Central Bank Nigeria CBN to revolutionise Agriculture in the country and guarantee food security.

He said before the coming of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, farmers in the country used to get between 1.7 to 2.5 tons per hectare but that at the moment farmers are getting 6 tons per hectare on the average owing to the Federal Government's extension services, financial support and provision of farm inputs to small holder farmers among others.

The Governor of the Central Bank Nigeria CBN, Godwin Emefiele said since the anchor borrower programme was launched by president Muhammadu Buhari some five years ago, it has become a game changer in Nigeria and will ultimately help in achieving some of the goals of the Government's economic sustainability plan.

He said under the wet season farming, CBN/RIFAN Partnership will finance 221 thousand farmers to cultivate two hundred and twenty one thousand hectres in 22 States, saying of this number, the North East sub-region will have forty four thousand eight hundred and seven farmers to cultivate over forty four hectres representing over 20 percent of the total number of farmers and hectres respectively.

The President of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, RIFAN Mohammed Aminu Goronyo said Nigeria has come of age in rice production to conveniently feed its growing population, attributing the feat to President Muhammadu Buhari's vision in that direction.
