Kwara NUJ leadership presented the award to Governor Abdulrazaq and other awardees during Press Week dinner held at Banquet Hall, Ilorin. Mr Ajakaye in a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the spokesman of the Governor said the duo committed the offence through their WhatsApp posts on September 30, 2022. The two brothers accused Ajakaye of facilitating over N15m of public funds to prosecute the last chairmanship election of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He said the allegations amounted to injurious falsehood and criminal defamation of his character, as the claims were false and a figment of the imaginations of the two of them, adding that the allegations were another way of inciting the public against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other members of his government.

10th September, 2022 Gombe Governor In Audience With President Muhammadu Buhari ...Commends FG's Take Over Of Gombe Airport ...Appreciates FEC's Approval of Five Significant Roads in North-East ...Lauds FG's Partnership With Gombe On Regional Water Expansion Project Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he expressed appreciation of the Government and people of Gombe State over some interventions his State got from the Federal government and also brought the Nigerian leader up to speed with developments in his State. Speaking to State House Correspondents shortly after a closed door meeting with the Commander in Chief, the Governor listed three major decisions taken by the Federal government in favour of the State, including the takeover of Gombe airport by the federal government, the partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for the expansion of Gombe Regional Water Scheme and the construction of a road linking Gombe with Bauchi and Yobe States among others. On the takeover of the Gombe Airport by the Federal Government, Governor Inuwa said: "Above all, the most important development is the take over of Gombe Airport by the Federal Government which Mr. President has approved". He explained further that already the Nigerian Air Force is building an Air Force Base there and with the take over it means there will be more resources to maintain the facility throughout the lifespan of its operation. The Governor told the Journalists that his administration shall see to the fact that the airport premises is expanded so that economic activities are enhanced. On the road projects, he said: "You may recall that recently the Federal Executive Council approved five roads, very significant roads within the North-East Sub-Region through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. For Gombe specifically, there's a road that leads to Bauchi from Gombe. But that road equally leads to Yobe and terminates in Borno. So that means we have a thorough fare in all our states; and especially in Gombe State there's the Wawa- Zange Grazing Reserve,a very vast expanse of land about 144000 hectares of land". He continued, " the grazing reserve is about the largest grazing reserve in the country that has not been developed properly. Being a grazing reserve means there's a big expanse of forest there that may be attracting bandits and insurgents..So part of that contract will help in providing access for the security agencies, even the people that are living within the fringes of the area, to enhance their socio-economic activities and therefore have more security which means more prosperity to the people". Governor Inuwa Yahaya also commended the Federal Government for its approval, of partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Gombe State Government to expand the Gombe Regional water project which is the single source of drinking water to people in Gombe Metropolis and its surroundings including about 15 villages. This, he said will bring more relief to his people as well as improve their well-being. Under the arrangement, the federal government will contribute thirty percent and Gombe State will pay the remaining balance. Still reeling out the thrust of his talking points with Mr. President, Inuwa Yahaya said the issue of the 1st Gombe Investment Summit ( GoInvest) was also brought to the fore, disclosing that the proposed Summit would be held in October this year. "our desire to stage the first Investment summit in Gombe is premised on the 10-year development plan that I unveiled two years ago. "We believe that the first Gombe investment summit will help us market Gombe State as a top investment location, and facilitate interactions between potential investors and the state, attracting both local and international investors". He said Gombe State, which is centrally located in the North East and acting as a logistical centre and a gateway to Northern Nigeria, Nigeria, Africa, and the global markets, is an attractive investment destination with a favourable investment environment, especially with its ranking as the Number 1 in the ease of doing business in Nigeria. On Education, the Governor said "we have taken a cursory look at the education sector in Gombe from the sordid and pitiable position we met it when we took over the mantle of leadership to where it is presently and I feel that there's no need to extend the state of emergency earlier declared in the sector beyond December this year. "This is because we have now moved away from the state of total collapse I met in 2019 that prompted us to declare a state of emergency in the education sector to a state of great competitiveness", he said. "From an academic pass ratio in Secondary School Certificate of 26% in 2019, Gombe State's Students have recorded an 87% success rate in 2021" , Governor Inuwa asserted. "We were very particular about the education sector. Recall that in September 2019, UNICEF reported that Gombe had over 500,000 out of school children. That time I even said it could be much higher. However we have now reversed this ugly situation with more 350,000 of those numbers of students now back to school with better facilities". We are also establishing Mega schools across the senatorial zones that will be cosmopolitan in nature with State of the art facilities to make teaching and learning more conducive and effective with qualified and well trained teachers employed for optimal performance. Governor Inuwa also talked about the efforts of his administration in tackling desertification and other environmental challenges, saying the Gombe Goes Green ( 3G) project, which is a flagship programme designed to plant one million trees yearly, has achieved significant results with about 4 million trees already planted and still counting. This, he said, is in addition to other measures put in place in partnership with NEWMAP and now ACReSAL among others. The governor also hinted that he equally discussed the political development in his state with the President. Inuwa also presented the 3rd year scorecard and progress report document to Mr. President who was seen visibly elated with the giant strides recorded by the Governor within the 3 years of his stewardship. By Bayo Adenekan Periodic elections and opportunity to make a choice of leaders are some of the basic ideals of democracy and good democratic governance. This has been over the years, at the core of development or otherwise of any nation or State. Integrity of elections before the inception of this current administration has been an object of doubt, the evolvement of an electoral process that many could be proud of were at the front burner of expectations from Nigerians who hitherto have had to cope with the effects of poor governance as a result of wrong choice of leadership. As Buhari administration committed to bringing about changes in line with its campaign mantra on reforms, President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government have taken the issue of a credible and transparent electoral process that will result in a free elections representing the wish of the people beyond mere promises had put in place mercenaries to help achieve this. The process began with the appointment of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission with the mandate of sanitising the commission, improving its activities and adopting the best global practices and standards to help in the future conduct of credible elections. Professor Yakubu immediately hit the ground running by bringing his wide range of experience to bear and improving on the use of technology to aid the electoral process continuously over past years and had recently resulted in the introduction of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, electronic transmission of results and deliberate expansion of voting system with the creation of more polling units across the country. Registered voters have also hit 100 million with young population of over 65% which is crucial to electoral reforms success indeed. Electoral reform bills were taken to the national assembly to provide legal framework for the improved electoral system and remove all bottlenecks militating against the conduct of credible and transparent elections in the past, which had all been signed by Mr. President. For youth participation and in ascending to the clamour by civil society organisations, the president passed not too young to run bill into law to give opportunity for the youths population to participate in the electoral process is another big win. Election results can now be monitored by Nigerians anywhere in the country with the passage of the provision for electronic transmission of results into law and this was largely put to test in Ekiti and Osun state elections. This yielding positive results beginning from the Anambra elections as the people went out and elected the candidate of their choice as the Governor of the state. Never was instrumentality of the State been deployed to influence outcome of this elections as it was in the past prior 2015. The election was won by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA professor Charles Soludo and the election was adjudged transparent and credible resulting little or no contention in the law court. The Ekiti election was another litmus test for electoral body and even though the candidate of the ruling party emerged victorious, it was unanimously agreed that the choice of the people was represented by the outcome of the election. Lastly, the Osun election was the last to portray the readiness of the President to bequeath an electoral system on our nation as a legacy that we could all be proud of even several years after he leaves office. The election was won by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and the people were highly delighted to make their choice in a transparent and credible electoral system. As against what used to obtain in the past, the ruling party has lost two out of the three off season elections conducted and this goes to show that it will no longer be business as usual in the nation's electoral system and solid foundation is no doubt now being laid for the development of the nation's democracy. This is big win for President Buhari which we are proud of within APC, this achievements will be on the ballot come 2023 as a point of reference by Nigerians. As the 2023 election draw by,, the President has still not hiden his resolve to conduct an election that will be the representation of the wish of the people with the latest confirmation in his recent message during a meeting with Governors of his party, APC in Aso rock. According to the President, “I want Nigerians to know that we respect them, and for us to show that we will allow them to vote who they want. “We all witnessed what happened in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States. What happened in those States had given me a lot of hope that we are succeeding,” Posterity will judge Mr. Buhari indeed many years to come for this bold stride in Nigeria and the nation will no doubt have a reason to celebrate the President post 2023 elections. Big 'WIN', Bravo President Buhari & APC!!! |

13th June, 2022 Education: As Governor Inuwa Yahaya Opens New Vista In Gombe State ...Commissions Alabura Model Primary and Junior Secondary School Kumbiya Kumbiya ...Says Education Remains His Administration's Priority Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has commissioned the Alabura Model Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, Kumbiya- Kumbiya in the state capital, conceived and executed by the present administration in the state. The inauguration of the magnificent twin complex, named after a famous educationist, Malam Alabura S. Kudi, brought to an end the unpleasant history of the Kumbiya-Kumbiya Community as the only ward without Government learning facility in the entire state. The Alabura Model School is an edifice of 2 blocks of 18 classrooms each, totalling 36 classrooms, two offices, 2 staff rooms and 2 Computer rooms (e-Library) fully furnished and well equipped with modern facilities. In addition, the School has sporting facilities, water supply and good access roads to enhance total learning for the pupils and students. Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the commissioning of the school, on the day of the 2022 edition of democracy day celebration as part of the dividends of democracy to the people. He recalled that "By providence, the foundation of this School was laid on 12th June 2021 and it is being commissioned in exactly a year to commemorate the 3rd year of our administration". Governor Inuwa Yahaya recalled that since coming into office his administration was confronted with the problems of high number of out of school children, dilapidated structures and facilities in primary and secondary schools. It was for this reason, the Governor said, his administration wasted no time in declaring a state of emergency in the education sector which has since led to the total overhauling of the system. "We were able to improve on enrolment figures significantly, renovated more than 400 classrooms and constructed over 200 new ones. We also ensured the provision of learning and teaching materials and recently approved the engagement of 1,000 teachers through the state teachers service commission to boost the human resource capacity in our schools". He remarked that his administration is currently constructing 5 Mega Senior Secondary Schools as well as improving the standard of other Junior Model Schools in the State. He observed that the provision of quality education is a task that must not be left in the hands of Government alone and therefore called on the citizens of the State to rededicate themselves to nation building by remaining united to confront the problems confronting the State and the country with total commitment. "We must always remember that the task of nation-building is a collective responsibility. Government is always ready to partner with organizations and individuals who are prepared to assist in providing quality education to our citizens. In this regards, prominent sons of kumbiya Kumbiya have in consultation with government have constituted a special committee that would collaborate with the relevant authorities in proving necessary oversight to the school". Governor Inuwa Yahaya explained that the 9 Man committee to be headed by Professor A.B Ismail and is expected to serve as a watchdog of the school to ensure that the standard and quality of teaching and learning is not compromised. On the country's democracy day celebration, Governor Inuwa Yahaya praised the 23 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria which he described as the longest period of civilian rule since independence. "It is a clear testimony that Nigerian democracy has come of age in-spite of our numerous challenges. We have proven to be adept at managing our disagreements without resorting to military aberration. It further demonstrates our political maturity and resilience in spite of our regional, ethnic and religious diversities. There is no doubt that the restoration of democracy in 1999 has brought governance closer to the people thereby addressing the yearnings and aspirations of various interest groups in the country". He noted that in Gombe State, there is no denying the fact that democracy has ushered in a period of sustainable development to the State. "So far, three successive civilian administrations have come and gone, paving the way for our own administration which is three years old now. Over this period, we worked hard to consolidate on the achievements of previous administrations and correct the lapses we found. We introduced innovative ideas, policies and programmes aimed at making lives better for our people. The past three years were indeed years of commitment to delivering on our ambitious campaign promises. Our Third-year Scorecard and Progress Report indicates that we have recorded 90% overall achievement in fulfilling the promises we made to the good people of this State. It is indeed an uphill task to be able to fulfil the promises we made to our people in this period of global economic meltdown and uncertainty. However, given our determination, hard work, perseverance, prudent and efficient management of scarce resources, we have been able to wither the storm and deliver on our mandate. Our achievements are glaring and self-evident that even our political opponents have acknowledged". The Governor said as his administration marks three years in office, he will continue to remain focused and committed towards improving the wellbeing of the people through equitable provision of socio-economic infrastructure, ensuring peace and security, law and justice as well as providing equal opportunities for the citizens of the State. He expressed the belief that it is only through the provision of dividends of democracy that the State can continue to address the needs of the people and justify their confidence and trust in the State Government under his leadership. Governor Inuwa Yahaya used the occasion to commend the vision, courage and patriotism of Kumbiya Kumbiya ward who sacrificed their homes and environment to enable Government establish the School assuring them of Government’s continued goodwill, support and assistance. He also commended SUBEB, the Consultants and Contractors who worked hard to make the dream a reality, appealing to the school management, teachers and pupils to ensure that the School and its facilities are well maintained at all times. Earlier speaking, the State Commissioner of Education, Dauda Batari Zambuk described the Commissioning of the Alabura Model Primary and Junior Secondary School as undying desire and steadfastness of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to revamp the education sector for the greater good of the people. He said the quality of renovation, remodeling, construction and reconstruction of classrooms blocks across the State by the Inuwa Yahaya's administration signal a departure from the substandard nature of structures being built in the past. The Executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Babaji Babadidi said the construction of the Alabura model Primary and Junior Secondary School is a promise fulfilled to the people of Kumbiya Kumbiya community which was the only ward in the State without any form of Government learning institution. Dr Ahmed Adamu Yarma, Chairman of Kumbiya Kumbiya Community Development Association pledged adequate support to protect the facility at community level by taking ownership. Officer In Charge Of Kuje Correctional Center Allegedly Turns Facility Center To aBusiness Center ...Allegedly Extorts Over N1.8M from Suspended DCP Abba Kyari, Others The Kuje Correctional Centre that should serve as a safe space for convicts and awaiting trial detainees, has over time become a place for nefarious business activities. Allegations of corruption, extortion and cover-ups have continued to trail the custodial facility. Inmates or detainees who have had reasons to stay in Kuje prison have recounted tales of woes and bad experiences due to poor welfare. Kuje correctional Centre was established in the year 1989 with a minimum and maximum holding cell where inmates are incarcerated. The custodial centre is famous for holding high profile offenders, including former governors and ministers. The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Kalu, and former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, had their time in the facility. Speaking under the condition of anonymity, an ex inmate in a two minute audio recording fingered the Deputy Comptroller, Corrections In-Charge of Kuje, custodial centre, Ibrahim Shehu as the Chief Executive Officer of the Alleged corrupt business empire. The ex inmate said the officer has the penchant for extorting both the high and low class inmates in the custodial facility. He explained that the Officer In Charge of the facility uses the Chief Warder, Mr. Awiza and two of his close office staff Allegedly to collect monthly dues from inmates under the guise that he would take same to the Comptroller-General of the Correctional Service. Just very recently, a suspended Police Chief, DCP Abba Kyari, alleged he was forced to pay for cable TV for other inmates as a form of protection. Kyari’s lawyer, Nureini Jimoh, who filed for a review of his client’s bail application, said his client was being subjected to harsh conditions. “In a bid to mitigate the threats to kill the defendants/applicants, the chief warder advised DCP Abba Kyari and other defendants to advance some goodwill to the inmates by funding renewal of the DSTV subscription in all the cells for two months and make some cash donations to all the inmate’s group leaders as well as the church and mosque. The defendants/applicants Allegedly complied on 29/03/2022,” Kyari’s affidavit read in part. Meanwhile, the ex inmate stated that it was the Officer In Charge of the facility that instigated the inmates to go after Kyari simply because he (Kyari) Allegedly refused to release more money to him and his boys after he had parted with over N1.8M. He added that the former governor of Taraba State, Reverend Jolly Nyame is also in the long list of VIPs who suffered ill treatments in the hands of the corrupt prison officials. He said others could not speak up like Kyari for fear of victimization. Recall also that in 2017, the son of a former minister in the FCT was also alleged to have paid about N500,000 to officers of the NCS to secure a suitable withholding cell. A report by a rights organisation in 2008 highlighted some of the corrupt practices in the facility. Amnesty International had in a report noted that there were no adequate medical and welfare provisions for inmates. Reacting to the development, an Abuja based lawyer, Mr. Emmanuel Ekwe described the incident as “unfortunate, disheartening and totally unacceptable.” “This criminal acts have been reported as common and recurring phenomenon in the Nigerian Correctional Centres. It simply shows the despicable level of moral decadence of the officers who are paid to take charge of prison inmates. “It is my considered opinion that such criminal and immoral acts should not be tolerated or condoned in anyway. “I hereby call on the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service to use his good office to urgently investigate the foregoing complaints and effect appropriate sanctions on the culprits, including their dismissal from Service forthwith,” Mr. Ekwe added. All efforts to reach out to correctional center in Kuje prove abortive as at the time of filling this report. |

13th April, 2022 Inuwa's Spectacular Empowerment Strategy In Gombe By Ismaila Uba Misilli The spectacle was indeed spectacular! It is no longer news that 1,000 Tricycles, popularly known as Keke-NAPEP were distributed to youths in Gombe irrespective of political, religious or tribal affiliations. That is one of the enviable emblems of the all-inclusive administrative style of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe State. That is not all. A week later Governor Inuwa Yahaya granted approval for the recruitment of 1000 fresh teachers by Gombe State Teachers' Service Commission, TSC as part of efforts towards consolidating on the objectives and gains of his declaration of a ‘state of emergency’ on education and boosting the human capital development in Gombe State. Not done yet, the Governor also looked towards the physically challenged and disabled citizens and empowered them. For the teachers, Governor Inuwa Yahaya also approved the transfer of 288 staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) who had applied for transfer of service from the board for placement into the State Ministry of Education’s secondary schools and technical colleges. This development is one of the steps the Governor has taken to turn around the fortunes of education in the state. He had earlier in January this year, consented to kick starting the teachers' recruitment process at the TSC. I will come back to this story and others. But first the youths empowerment. Back to the 'Keke Inuwa'' story which many people watched with a huge admiration recently as 1,000 youths were empowered with Keke-NAPEP to boost the already revamped transport sector of Gombe State. The empowerment is part of Inuwa Yahaya's grand industrial policy to catalyse all the sectors that will aid agriculture and commerce in the State, besides caring for the youths of Gombe. And part of the big picture envisioned by Gombe State’s 10-year Development Plan. The 1,000 Tricycles To Keke-NAPEP Riders is an unprecedented gesture in the history of Gombe State. It is a demonstration of the APC government's commitment to improving the living conditions and providing opportunities for all citizens in Gombe. The beneficiaries of the empowerment programme were nominated from the 11 local government areas of the state through their umbrella association, Keke-NAPEP Riders Association of Nigeria (Gombe State Chapter) regardless of their political affiliation, religion or tribe. Governor Inuwa Yahaya said of the gesture: "This further affirms our determination to support every citizen of the state without bias. "By this discounted revolving rider-owner arrangement, it is envisaged that these beneficiaries will earn a living for themselves and their families through this partnership and subsequently give a window for another batch of beneficiaries to be selected in due course,". He expressed the hope that the distribution of 1,000 tricycles would ease transportation challenges and help reduce accidents and security threats associated with motorcycles popularly known as “achaba”, especially within the Gombe metropolis. The Governor believes that economic development and progress do not just happen without realistic vision, careful choices as well as resolute commitment of leaders and followers to doing the right thing. His administration had created a conducive environment for private businesses to thrive which had led to the state's rating as the number one in the ease of doing business in the country. Under Governor Inuwa, Gombe State had been recognised as the most peaceful, secure and socially cohesive state in the country. He has created an environment where all citizens and residents could pursue their livelihoods and realise their God-given potentials without fear of harassment, discrimination or violence. Governor Inuwa is always proud of the fact that he runs a cohesive administration where all are treated as equal stakeholders. "What gladdens my heart and of course every well-meaning citizen of the state is the consensus reached by the people, regardless of political affiliation, that we have delivered on the vast majority of the promises we made in 2019 and have done a lot more! The evidence is clear for anyone to see", he said. He is a man that appreciates people and commitments. At any opportunity, he thanks the entire people of the state for their individual and collective support, assuring that his administration would continue to work harder in order to provide good governance and bring economic prosperity to the cizenry. During the Keke-NAPEP distribution ceremony, the Chairman, Gombe State's branch of the Tricycles Riders Association of Nigeria, Mohammed Abdullahi Sarki, said the gesture by Governor Inuwa marked a turning point in the history of the association. "This is the mother of all empowerment programmes since the creation of Gombe State more than 25 years ago. As a matter of fact, this will go a long way in the annal of history and we, as an association, shall continue to cherish this gesture for a long time to come," he stated. In his characteristics display of compassion, Governor Inuwa Yahaya also looked towards the direction of People With Disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerables in the state and put smiles on their faces and brought relief to their lives. This was the response Inuwa got from them "You are the first Governor in the history of Gombe State to stand for good two hours under scorching sun to receive the community of persons with disability. "We can also remember during covid 19 pandemic, you gave special treatment to our members, Your Excellency, we say thank you". Governor Inuwa has launched many initiatives for jobs and skills acquisition targeting mostly youths, women and other vulnerable groups with the vision to empower not less than 10,000 individuals this year alone. To accomplish the vision, many programmes capable of improving human capital in the state were launched, data base for teeming unemployed youths created;1,000 persons were already trained on various trades and skills through ARC-P; more than 3000 Development Facilitators employed; while Gombe State Security Traffic and Environmental Corps targeting 2,000 youths has already kicked off; which is a justification for this administration's commitment towards human capital development. As a result of these initiatives, most youths are now having something doing which means more engagement in productive processes, less crimes, less political thuggery and other social vices. Gombe no doubt is progressing geometrically and astronomically with Dan Maje on the saddle. The submission was made on Friday in Lagos by Team Nigeria For Change in a press release signed by its national president, Chief Bestman Nze Jumbo, describing the former Governor of Lagos state as "a credible, reliable, dependable and a unifier,"who will be acceptable in all the six geo- political zones of the country. He further posited that with the adoption mode adopted at the national convention of the APC,if such should be replicated for the presidential primary,it should be done with the mindset of producing a credible and acceptable candidate that will be popular across the country. According to him" it's crystal that the 2023 elections are approaching,it's for us as a group committed to good governance, that we will continue to talk about the Aspirants parading the political landscape. While we appreciate the jostling for the presidency by so many politicians, however,we want to say we must make our position known at this point in time." " With the recent conclusion of the national convention of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) and the timetable by INEC on the conduct of primary elections by parties,we will want the party, APC ,to look critically into the Aspirants running under it's banners and scrutinize properly, look at their antecedent, acceptability across the zones, the pedigree and above all, their commitment to good governance. From our intense and widespread consultations,we have found out that only Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a towering influence and acceptable conduct across the country,so we will admonish the party to consider him ,for his efforts in the birthing of this democracy..."
