I don't think you should mention your relative in NY since you don't plan to stay with them. Don't know if any other person has a different opinion.

Good day NLers,

I have come again o. Sorry. smiley While applying for my visa, I entered the address where I will staying to have my baby as an extended hotel place I booked close to my hospital. I have gotten to a page on my visa application that asks for US contact info asking if I have a relative in the US. I said yes because my mum inlaw stays in New York. However I won't be staying with her because I cannot afford to pay the high hosp bills in NY. Do you think it is ok for me to use a hotel as my address when I have a relative who I honestly do not intend visiting.
Please advise. I need this info to complete my application.

NB: I might end up staying in one of these private apartments where the owners rent out rooms to expectant mums if I am able to get a good bargain. Will this affect anything? Or should I put the details of my doc or the hospital i am using?
cc: @PrinceAdeAde grin

Thanks.

I had my baby through Obama health care programme, with the help of a friend that works in the hospital though I went earlier to usa enough, it cost nothing, it's free though Africans on ground find it difficult helping others out

Can't stop thinking about the mistake you have made. Pls try to make enquires n see if there is a possibility to clear the bill no matter what it will cost you.

I don't think you are allowed to use the Obama health care program Ooo. But good luck on your next VISA renewal.

Hello mummys/daddys,

Has anyone here used Pampered Stay accommodation in Houston? Have searched & searched through this thread and have not seen the name mentioned anywhere.
Kindly respond if you have. I just need to know someone has actually dealt with them and if they are good. Thank you.

Am happy someone else shares my view about dr Fagbohun, I think I will have to tell him my mind. The truth is he doesn't spend enuff time with his patience, the dr I used in NY for my first baby had lots of pple too like dr Fagbohun but he spends sufficient time with each person . I still don't feel any patient - dr connection with dr Fagbohun after like 6 appointment. Plan to tell him this on my next visit. Am kind of disappointed cos pple have said lots of nice stuff about him.

Hi house. I have been a silent follower of this forum for a while and have learnt a lot. However, I am curious about the POE experiences of mamas who traveled shortly after renewing their visas using the dropbox service. Since there is nowhere in the DS160 form where you can state you are traveling for childbirth, i am curious to know how CBP officials have been reacting to such mamas.

Will be happy to learn from your experiences as my visa will be expiring before my EDD. House gurus please help out

I don't think you will have any problem with that, I also renewed via drop box n they didn't have problem with it. But don't know if any other person has had problem. Just pray n say the truth hold all required doc , you will be fine.

To clear the confusion about maiden name or not on baby's BC, I believe it DIFFERS from State to State. Different States have different laws in the US. So let's slow down in confusing people by saying "in the US". Just speak about the State u birthed in. kiss

Thanks for the clarification.

Hello,m currently in the US and still waiting for baby to pop out. My passport has my maiden name on it but i have my marriage certificate with me. Will they still insist my baby's BC n Passports bear my maiden name as his surname? If yes, how do i change it later? I never knew about this from Nig,i would ve processed the change of name on my passport. Thanks

Just called a friend that just had her baby n her passport has her new last name, her name on the BC was still her maiden name. So I guess you don't have a problem with that. But just incase your hubby will not be leaving US with you when you are going back to Nija make sure your baby's BC n wedding certificate is close by in case they want to verify if you actually have a connection to the baby. Though in my case my hubby travelled back with me so they didn't ask for anything.

the father's name will be on the birth cert, so the child pp will bear the father name. My passport still bears my maiden name and I didn't fill it on the form given to me in the hospital, I used my new name and it was accepted nobody questioned it. There is a part for maiden name.

Like I said my own expirence was in Newyork n it was 3yrs ago. But one thing am certain about is if you are traveling alone with that child n your passport still carries your maiden name you will have to hold the baby's birth certificate n your marriage certificate before they will allow you leave Nija international airport. Had the same problem in UK too had to show her birth certificate n marriage certificate.
It's posible tins have changed now as per filling the birth certificate form. But I made sure I changed my passport to reflect my new last name before coming for this baby.

I disagree o, it depends on what you fill in the hospital, the name on your passport will only be used when the passport guys are filling out their portion on the application form. I used my current name on my baby BC n they didn't ask for any supporting doc.

In your case was it your maiden name on your passport or your current name. Cos I was asked for a form of ID when I filled the birth certificate form. I had other ID's with my current last name but they said my international passport is the only ID they will accept. In all will advice you change your passport name to your current last name to be on a safe side.

This is the first time am hearing that ooo, normally they tell you to fill the name on your passport. Well may be hospitals have different methods sha. But in my case they said I have to use the name on my passport.

Hi house,Please who has recently had a new international Passport with change of name done?learnt it can only be done in Abuja, pls need info on how many days it takes to get done, and the cost. Not sure i'll want to stay in Abj for more than 2-3 working days. Thanks in advance kissAbeg no chop groundnut Pass my post o grin

Another disadvantage of not changing your passport name to your new last name is that: anytime you are traveling with the baby without the father you have to go with the baby's birth certificate to proof that you are the mother.

I think it depends on the long leg you are using ooo, I got mine the following day, would have gotten it same day but I wanted to get something from someone in Abuja town so I could not wait. If you decide not to change your last name from your maiden name before you travel, your name on your baby's birth certificate will be your maiden name. If your hubby doesn't mind that sha, that was what happened to me for my first baby.

The vital records office sed it would take 14 bussiness days but we decided to check earlier and realised it had been ready 5 days after my delivery. These 5 days include 2 days of weekend which means it took 3 bussiness days. Yet to go for the passport on the 9th cuz was fully booked. My advice is to book an appointment for the passport as early as possible. Will update u as I obtain the documents.

From my experience once you get the birth cert, n you have a flight itenary showing that you are traveling like in a weeks time( if you booked your flight through an agent they have a way they do it.) you don't have to call passport office for appointment. You can do a walk in n expedite the passport. But it all depends on how much time you have to spend after you have your baby.

@ Istttimemom, thanks for the info, I appreciate. Meanwhile is it that that other preggy woman didnt send the letter of intent to Lagos NIV before her trip or those officers at Houston didn't just reckon with it?

It's just grace of God when it comes to this officers at houston. I renewed my VISA before I came in for this baby but I was delayed at Houston because my hubby said No when they asked if I was pregnant in 2012 when we went for interview to get the VISA for my first baby. I had all my proof of payment for her delivery but they still had issue with the fact that we didn't say the trust about bin pregnant during the interview.
But I know that change of intent later works, cos my friend that just left did not declare she was pregnant during her interview. She did the change of intent letter tin n convince them at POE that she was not planning to come n have the baby when she did her interview. It's just grace of God. Just pray.

You don't need to sun dry the ogi. Carry it Frozen put it inside ziploc n you are good. Once you get to US put it in the freezer immediately. You can do same for your iru too.

Hi all,

Am currently in Houston n using dr Fagbohun. I have an affordable apartment available n it's 7mins drive to west houston medical center. My flat mate had her baby n left Houston on 2nd Jan.it's a 2 bedroom, each room has its toilet. Let me know if you are interested or if you know any1 interested. I also have a ride so moving around is not stress provided we are going towards the same direction.
