Visa Approved today at the Abuja Embassy.
Here's an abridged version of my transcriot to K.I.S.S.
VO: Hello Me: Oh Hi! VO: I can see you're going for your Doctorate in aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Me: Thats correct. VO: Are you married? Me: Nope, I am single. VO: Why the Univerisity of Cincinnati? Me: My choice of schools was based on the Carnegie Classification of Institutes of Higher Education in which UC falls under the Schools with Very High Research activity(R1). I had emailed many profs with similar research interests who work in schools within the R1 list and received interesting replys from the Profs at UC. Also, they have a really strong faculty. Particularly, the first man to land on the moon surface, Neil Armstrong, was a one-time member of the aerospace engineering faculty and helped develop it. The above helped to shape my decision.
VO: **cute smile** Whats your research field about? Me: oh I am interested in the aerodynamics of airfoils as well as the development of miniaturized satellites--CubeSats in particular.
VO: *smiles* and asks, whats your highest degree qualification? Me: I currently hold a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of xxxx where i finished with a first class.
VO: hmm, i can see from your I-20 that you've been offered full scholarships.
Me: That's Correct.
VO: I will be approving your Visa. Please keep your I-20 very safe as you will be needing it at the POE.
I am grateful to God for his grace. |

DreManuel: Dear "PTDF Staff"
Whose fault @bolded?
What am only happy about is that you agree that the selection process was flawed ab initio and integrity of the system may have been compromised. That means when the list is out, those of us that will be successful should not think that we were simply the best.
You are saying "some scholars chose to write {sic} discipline they didn't put in for due to information", what about those that were forced by FlexiSaf to write for the discipline they didn't put in for because the questions on what they put in for didn't display. What do you have to say about this? Won't the system you devised be unfair to such people? Maybe you should educate us on this occult strategy of yours.
The situation is just in a complete mess, unfortunately. No matter what method you adopt, some people will still be shortchanged except you scrap the subject based aspect and focus on English alone, yet it was alleged that people saw the questions before hand. And if that is true, again, whose fault?
My suggestion, get a tested and trusted contractor next year to conduct the exams and avoid giving contracts to your cronies. Many of us on this thread know at least two top-notch IT companies that conduct aptitude tests for the multinationals and progressive domestic companies - and with them, only the bests are chosen. In addition, I also feel personally that over six months is enough for one to improve seriously in one area of study, that is entirely different from what was initially stated in application. This is one of the demerits of having over 6months between application period and test date. Also, some courses/specialization are quite related and one can actually feel a hunch to change on test date given one's improvement in an area over a specific period. I mean, I for one initially put in for design of rotating machines but after then I got a job that made me seriously improve in the area of fluid mechanics and Computational Fluid dynamics, infact I am on my way to obtaining a certificate in CFD simulations using ANSYS; therefore I felt much more confident to answer questions in the area of Fluid mechanics and energetics. I really pray God's will be done. I did my best. I trust God |

BasDost: Based upon informal "unverified" conversations with sources close to the PTDF management, it is very much unlikely that the list be released today. The expectations are that names of successful scholars will be published before the Sallah break and then induction to follow after the break. But you know surprises do happen, and we may see the list today based upon what some people here have posted. It is very very much unlikely though. A lot of people are just voicing their thoughts based on mere expectations. Gets more interesting each day |

I see your points and they make sense to me, except that it would be rather hash to make people suddenly start making impromptu plans to travel to abuja before Monday. Some people have jobs already and it ain't that easy to just travel like that without prior notice. DreManuel: Here is my theory:
Technically, if truly "PTDF is not unmindful of the fact that resumption is fast approaching" and indeed they "are taking necessary steps to ensure the list is released early enough for successful scholars to embark on their studies", today makes perfect sense for the list to be released. Then they would conduct the orientation next week, 21st-25th August. Then Scholars would pursue their Visas and make preparations the following week, 28th Aug - 1st Sept, and remember that that weekend is Salah so orientation may not be feasible the following week cos of public holidays. In a nutshell, if PTDF doesn't release the list today, the whole thing might spill over till the 3rd week of September barring any expedited plans by them, and then PTDF would be indubitably unmindful and oblivious of the fact that many OSS Scholars would miss the boat this summer.
Personally, I would defer my admissions till Spring which starts in January, 2018. Even if the list comes out now, and I'm successful as God wills, I would take my time to prepare adequately for the journey ahead and not rush into anything.
And I suggest to other indefatigable and unrelenting prospective OSS scholars especially PhDs who can cut the mustard to consider other options such as US Schools. Many of them provide full-funding for PhD students.
My only regret is that I put all of my eggs in the basket of PTDF and did not pursue other viable options for this fall. At any rate, I'm no longer perturbed as all things work together for my good - it's intentional. |

U of Washington, Seattle also asked for $250 as acceptance fee. Me I jejely pause the thing till I'm certain of funding. Already deffered sef, hopefully all this will end in success. |
