The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has urged Nigerian youths to seek demonstrable skills as a means of survival, warning that very soon university degrees will no longer be the sole guarantors of jobs. Oloyede said this on Thursday at Kwara State University, Malete, while delivering the convocation lecture, titled “Learning, Unlearning, and Relearning -Prerequisites of the Digital Age.” According to him, “new opportunities will emerge in the high-tech sector, and many skills that were not otherwise taught in conventional schools would be needed. Degrees would no longer be the sole guarantee of jobs, but demonstrable skills would. “In this regard, there won’t be meaningful difference between the literates and the illiterates without the cutting-edge skills that are associated with the triad – learning, unlearning, and relearning.” He also said that the imperative of the triad in life cannot be overemphasized as the tonic that gives vitality to successful living in today’s information age. He explained: “Those who can learn, unlearn, and relearn are the successful ones, and those without the mindset that accommodates the triad are bound to perpetually lament.” He also said that the world of today is different from the stone age, stressing that “one of the factors responsible for this change is the totality of what makes the information age, which is still evolving as technology develops rapidly.” He further said that the dynamism of the world provides new opportunities and threats, adding that while there are new opportunities in information technology, the existing jobs as typists, receptionists, traditional printers, telephone booth operators, computer operators, factory workers, cashiers, travel agents, and fuel attendants, among others, are on the verge of extinction. https://www.visblog.ng/2023/12/learn-skill-certificates-no-longer.html

Nigerian entertainer, Afeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, has taken legal action against actress, Iyabo Ojo, alleging the dissemination of false and defamatory content on her Instagram account. In a letter sent to Ojo, Naira Marley's lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, outlined the accusations made in a September 2023 post, stating that the actress accused Naira Marley of engaging in spiritual and physical dealings with the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. The lawyer further asserted that Ojo accused Naira Marley of causing mental harm to Mohbad, whom he referred to as a brother. Naira Marley's attorney is seeking a redress of N500 million from Ojo and a public apology. The counsel asked that the apology be posted on Ojo's official Instagram account and published in a national daily. According to Naira Marley’s lawyer, failure to adhere to the condition placed before her would force them to file a lawsuit against her. The letter in part reads, “We are Solicitors to Azeez Fashola (a.k.a. Naira Marley) an internationally renowned British and Nigerian Singer/Artist with over seven million followers hereinafter referred to as our client pursuant to whose instruction we write concerning the aboveheaded subject matter. “It is necessary to preface this letter by stating that in recognition of the iconic status of our client, the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) engaged him to use his skills and platforms to put out content that will discourage millions of his followers and Nigerian youths from substance abuse. “It is our instruction that sometimes in September, 2023, you maliciously and falsely published of and concerning our client on your official instagram handle 'iyaboojofespris' the following words: and destroying their lives and leaving them without a kobo to get help.......you go still explain taya because evidence dey, that your interview you go still re do am again.......make we get justice for Mohbad first". “It is unarguably clear that the above quoted words are in their ordinary and natural meanings meant or were understood to mean by ordinary right thinking members of the public that have read the post that our Client is a drug addict and that he laced the food and drinks which our Client gave to the boys staying with him with drugs with the resultant effect of occasioning monumental destruction of their lives. “Your publication of the above words on the internet which is readily accessible to users of the system constituted a very serious libel and has caused our client colossal damage to his reputation. “It is incontestably clear that the above quoted publication which has been read by countless internet users globally is defamatory of our Client and has brought him to public ridicule and or contempt with the resultant damage to our Client's reputation. “It is our further instruction that since the publication our Client has been inundated with calls from his followers, colleagues, friends and fans all over the world who had read the post expressing their disgust and dismay at the defamatory and libelous publication you had maliciously and falsely posted on your official instagram handle "iyaboojofespris" of and concerning our Client.”

Former Congo dictator Mobutu Seseseko’s mansion is now home to rats, bats, snakes and birds. Lesson to greedy rulers This is the House of the former Zaire [now DRC] dictator, Field Marshal Mobutu Sese Seko Kukungbendu Wazabanga. The magnificent structure constructed on a large expanse of land [equivalent to a minimal game park] was built in his home village called Gbadolite at the cost £100m. It was considered the "epitome of decor and elegance" in Zaire and beyond. The super structure was decorated with Italian marble, Katangese high-karate gold plated doors and windows, Spanish floor tiles, automatic American air conditioning, Isreali state-of-the-art communication systems, king-size swimming pool, a private airport control tower, 3-4 inch bullet-proof glassware, 5 presidential suites, 6 Jacuzzis and surrounded by a mini game park full of all kinds of wildlife, including Indian tigers. The structure, which at the time of Mobutu's death was ranked one of the most magnificent private castles ever owned by a sitting Head of State, is now home to wild rats, tropical snakes, gecko lizards, mega snails, scorpions, birds and thousands of wild insects. People should learn from this. Where are Mobutu’s kids to take over their father’s estate? www.visblog.ng

Nine Israeli soldiers have been killed in a series of ambushes and a double bombing in the single biggest loss of life for the country’s armed forces since the start of the ground invasion of Gaza. The soldiers were killed in what appeared to be a well-coordinated surprise attack in the Shujaiyah neighbourhood in the north of the Gaza Strip. The troops there were in an “advance stage” of sweeping up the area and dismantling Hamas capabilities, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The deaths late on Tuesday night included the most senior Israeli commander killed so far, and come as Israel faces intense international and domestic pressure to wind down its military campaign, which has killed some 15,000 people. Patience is running thin among key allies, such as the US, while families of hostages held in Gaza are also demanding a ceasefire. The death toll of Israeli soldiers passed 100 this week. www.visblog.ng

The attention of Abia PDP has been drawn to comments made by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi on his verified X, formerly Twitter handle wherein he berated the APC-led federal government of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike - CON, GSSRS for earmarking the sum of N20b for the renovation and construction of official residences of Vice President Kashim Shettima Not done, Mr. Peter Obi also called out the federal government for having a large contingent to the ongoing COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai and described it as a waste of scarce resources among many other criticisms he always makes on the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since he assumed office on May 29, 2023. Abia PDP understands that it is within the right of Mr. Peter Obi toffer criticism as a citizen and stakeholder in Project Nigeria, just like any other Nigerian, but we are taken aback at his selective approach to issues he chooses to weigh in on. We are shocked that the poster child of the Labour Party and a former governor of Anambra State who rose to political fame and popularity on account of his financial prudence in the conduct of government business while serving as a governor would keep mute in the face of the financial recklessness of the only Labour Party governor in Nigeria, Alex C. Otti of Abia State. For over a month, Alex C. Ottir Party and his government in Abia State have been in the news for the wrong reasons following his shocking revelations of how he spent humongous amounts of money on himself even in the midst of the grinding poverty that has enveloped Abia State. In the midst of the excruciating poverty which he claims he wanted to alleviate, he spent 32% of Abia’s Quarter 3 (July-September 2023) budget on himself alone. At last count, Alex Otti told Nigerians that he spent N5.3b to run his office from his personal residence, having not moved into any of the three government Houses in the State, spent N233m on his personal feeding after sacking more than 15,000 workers from Abia Civil Service arising from the huge wage bill according to him, N2.8b as security vote even when he had said he would not take security votes as governor during the campaigns because it was a secure pipe to fritter the State’s money, spent N552m on information dissemination through his Ministry of Information and propaganda, spent N30b for the construction of a 5.6-kilometre Port Harcourt Road without following the provisions of the State’s Procurement Act among many other infractions on the law of the State. In all he spent 41% of the Q3 budget on himself, his deputy and House of Assembly and that is N10.22b of the total receivables of N25b that came into Abia State in Q3, 2023. Yet, in all of these, the Abia PDP has not heard or seen Mr. Peter Obi caution or call Alex Otti to order even when many national political commentators and analysts have stepped into the matter to censure Alex Otti’s spendthrift behaviour and financial recklessness. Rather Mr. Peter Obi is quick to reel out figures that show how the former PDP and APC governments and the present government of President Bola Ahmed Bola Tinubu have run Nigeria aground. The loud silence of Mr. Peter Obi is disturbing, unsettling and speaks to the hypocrisy of our ruling elites and indeed Nigerians who do not hate bad leaders generally but hate only those who are not from their political parties. Mr. Peter Obi’s quietude suggests that he is in tacit support of what Alex Otti is doing and it also shows how he would have managed the affairs of Nigeria, perhaps if he won the presidential election. The Abia PDP advises that the next time Mr. Peter Obi wants to call out the President and the federal government of Nigeria, he should first remove the log of wood in his eyes in Abia State where his Labour Party is in charge and running the State like a personal estate before looking to remove the speck from President Bola Tinubu’s eyes. Abia PDP calls on all lovers of democracy to prevail upon Alex Otti and the Labour Party to be mindful of how they spend Abia money on frivolous and unnecessary expenditures. [www.visblog.ng]
