Business / Visa To Kenya Now Free For Nigerian Businessmen - Vivian Gist by viviangist2: 5:31pm On Jan 29, 2016
During President Buhari's 3-day Visit to Kenya , Nigeria and Kenya Government have both agreed on visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders in a bid to bolster bilateral ties as well as spruce up business opportunities between the two countries.

As a result there will be free entry for businessmen from both states as opposed to paying a visa fee on arrival.

This agreement was reached during the Kenya-Nigeria Business Forum in the East African country attended by heads of state of both countries.

Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta thereafter called on Nigerian investors to tap into the countries nascent oil sector which was discovered recently.

‘‘Given the economic importance of the sector and the Nigerian experience in this sector, we invite Nigerian investors to consider investing in Kenya by going into joint ventures with Kenyan companies or through Public Private Partnerships. I want to assure you that Kenya is open and safe for business and investment,’‘ Kenyatta said.

If he was not cuffed the first time does it not send a message? Did you bother to look at the pictures of when he was first in court?

Perhaps you should think of writting a petition to the Prison Service and ask for an explanation before you churn out speculative and sensational articles/posts.

Ciao

Thanks.

Dasuki and others, including Shuaibu Salisu, a director of finance and administration at the office of the national security adviser, and Abinu Baba-Kusa appeared 2 twice in court without been Cuffed.

Politics / Re: Kogi: APC May Pick Simon Achuka As Bello’s Deputy — Leadership Newspaper by viviangist2: 5:11pm On Jan 19, 2016
Failure of the All Progressive Congress in kogi state to compel Hon James Faleke to accept the deputy governor’s slot to the governor-elect, Yahaya Bello and the speed at which the handing over ceremony is drawing near, the APC in kogi state have picked Simon Achuba from Aguleri, in Anambra state as Yahaya’s deputy.

A leading Civil Society Organization and Election Monitoring Group, Conscience Nigeria, has raised the alarm over a Surreptitious plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to assist Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the December 5, 2015 Supplementary Governorship election in Kogi Sate smuggle in the name of a running mate.

Hon. James Faleke, who is Deputy Governorship Candidate to the late APC Candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, had since declined been a running mate to Yahaya Bello during the December 5th supplementary election.

But the electoral umpire is under a strong allegation of smuggling in another politician from the eastern part of Kogi state, into INEC official documents and backdate same in order prove to the Election Petition Tribunal Sitting in Lokoja that Bello actually fulfilled constitutional provisions by running the Supplementary election with a deputy.

However, Section 187 sub-section 1 of the Nigerian Constitution is very emphatic and states in unequivocal terms that any Governorship candidate for an election will not be deemed to be duly elected if he fails to run the election with a Deputy. With Hon. Faleke’s letter to APC and INEC refusing to be Bello’s Deputy and opting out of the Supplementary election, political observers and legal pundits had wondered how Bello would beat the trap of section 187 of the constitution since he actually ran the election without a Deputy.

In a statement, the Executive Director of Conscience Nigeria, Tosin Adeyanju said his group is disturbed with reports from very credible sources establishing the fact that a former member of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Simon Achuba from the Igala speaking part of the state (Kogi East) has been picked as the Deputy Governorship Candidate who purportedly ran the supplementary election of December 5, 2015 with Bello!

“We are terribly shocked with this development. This is corruption of the highest order and must not be allowed to stand”, Adeyanju said.

According to him, the confusing signal emanating from INEC’s position at the Tribunal point irresistibly to the fact that the commission is up to something sinister in its quest to rationalize the inclusion of Yahaya Bello as replacement for the deceased APC candidate, Prince Audu in the 2015 election. "Even legal pundits are at loss as to the evasive and inherently conflicting averments in the processes so far filed on INEC’s behalf before the Tribunal especially as it has to do with the deputy governorship candidate of the APC that ran with Yahaya Bello in the Supplementary election of December 5, 2015."

While INEC had maintained prior to the Supplementary election that Hon. Faleke was Bello’s Deputy, a position disputed by Faleke, facts distilled from INEC’s response to the petitions filed by the PDP and Faleke suggest rather curiously that APC and Bello had nominated another Deputy Governorship Candidate in the Supplementary election without naming who that candidate is.
Impeccable sources within Yahaya Bello’s camp confirm that INEC’s position at the Tribunal was indeed a smokescreen or a scaffolding upon which a new name could be smuggled in, aided by backdated documents to support the case of Yahaya Bello.

Adeyanju illustrated his group’s stance with the scenario that occurred during the collation of the December 5, 2015 Supplementary Election at the State collation centre, Lokoja when an agent of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the nomination of Bello as Governorship candidate by the APC since he had no deputy as Faleke had withdrawn but the INEC National Commissioner from North Central, Amina Zakari responded that Faleke remained Bello’s deputy because his party, APC, had not withdrawn his nomination despite the fact that he had written to the electoral umpire informing it of his intention to pull out of the race.

“Unless the Party withdraws a candidate, his letter is not enough, and unless the proper channel is followed, which is through the party, he remains the running mate”, she said. So from where did a running mate suddenly emerge from when Bello had not been sworn in?

Section 187 sub-section 1 of the Nigerian Constitution states interalia.
“In any election to which the foregoing provisions of this part of this chapter relate, a candidate for the office of Governor of a state shall not be deemed to have been validly nominated for such office unless he nominates another candidate as his associate for his running for the office of Governor, who is to occupy the office of Deputy Governor." Adeyanju added.

Adeyanju called on the leadership of INEC to as a matter of urgency investigate this corrupt plan within its fold with a view to bringing culprits to book.

According to him, the whole world is watching the political scenario in Kogi with keen interest and that nothing short of fairness and justice by the electoral agency would be acceptable.

Politics / Kogi: APC May Pick Simon Achuka As Bello’s Deputy — Leadership Newspaper by viviangist2: 5:11pm On Jan 19, 2016
The dust over who becomes the deputy to the Kogi State governor-elect, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, seems to have settled as Hon Simon Achuba may have been picked for the position.

It would be recalled that the nomination of Hon James Faleke after the demise of his principal, Prince Abubakar Audu, to be deputy to Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has been subject of litigation.

According to sources the final decision to pick Hon Simon Achuba, from among three other favoured people, Hon Benjamin Ikani, Hon Aisha Abubakar and Hon Tim Idiche, was influenced by the fact that Achuba had been two time member of the House of Assembly in Kogi State which gave him the edge.

Investigation also revealed that as a sign of readiness for the onerous task of deputy governor some security operatives have been detailed to the incoming deputy-governor’s house to keep vigil.

Meanwhile, all is set for January 27, 2016, inauguaration of Governor-elect Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Politics / Respite, As Ajimobi Announces No Retrenchment In Oyo - Pictured by viviangist2: 8:50am On Jan 18, 2016
Civil servants in Oyo State on Monday burst into wild jubilation as Governor Abiola Ajimobi declared that none of them would be retrenched in spite of the daunting economic challenges currently being faced by the state.

The civil servants, who had gathered for the annual inter-religious service to formally herald the 2016 working year at the Governor’s Office Car Park in Ibadan, could not hide their joy as they openly hailed the governor for his magnanimity.

The occasion was attended by the Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo; the state Chief Judge, Justice Ladipo Abimbola; the governor’s wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi; members of the state House of Assembly, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Akin Oke; party members, as well as Christian and Islamic clerics.

The governor said that instead of retrenching workers, he would introduce strict economic re-engineering such as the restructuring of ministries, departments and agencies as well as the Board of Internal Revenue to shore up the internally generated revenue.

Besides, he said that since the sharp drop in the federal allocation to the state began, he had taken palliative measures which included signing a memorandum of understanding with labour that 90 per cent of the monthly allocation be devoted to the payment of salaries.

Before the current economic doldrums, Ajimobi said that workers had enjoyed one of the best welfare packages in the South-West which he said had stood his administration out as worker-friendly.

He reeled out such programmes to include payment of salaries on 25th of every month, training and re-training of workers both within and outside the country, payment of 13th month salary for three consecutive years as well as the payment of 2014 and 2015 outstanding leave bonus which, he said, had commenced.

While calling for the continued understanding and cooperation of the civil servants in his quest at repositioning the state, he, however, said that government would do everything possible to fish out ghost workers, truants and absentees and deal with them in accordance with the law.

Although he said that the present economic reality would further task the managerial ability of his government, Ajimobi pointed out that the simple lesson the situation had taught everyone was that it was no longer business as usual.

The governor commended the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Waheed Olojede and other labour leaders in the state for their support, understanding and maturity in the handling of labour matters, especially on salary payment.

On the recent defection of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to APC, Governor Ajimobi hailed his decision to team up with the progressives in the state, describing the former governor as a great sportsman.

He said that Akala’s coming to APC had shown that he had seen the light which the ruling party had brought to Nigeria.

He said, ``We are happy to receive him into our house of light. After all, the Holy Books are replete with the need to love and accommodate one another and help one another to fulfill our destinies. Akala is a respected leader in his own right and we are happy to have him on board.

``In politics, there is no permanent friend or permanent enemy but permanent interest. Our permanent interest is the general good of our people and anyone who is committed to that interest is always welcome,’’ he said.
In his address, the state Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade, commended the governor for the laudable measures which he had taken to bring succor to the civil servants, stressing that the kind gesture must be reciprocated by hard work, diligence, commitment and loyalty.

He warned that workers who violated government rules and regulations and were unethical in their conduct would be shown the way out of the service and that those found guilty of any act of misconduct that were criminal in nature would be prosecuted.

The HOS also appreciated labour leaders for their maturity, understanding and cooperation exhibited in 2015, expressing the hope that it would continue in 2016 for the sustenance of industrial peace and harmony.

Words of exhortation were given by the Chaplain of Government House Chapel, Rev. Fr. Francis Omolade and the Chief Imam of Government House Mosque, Alhaji Bello Rufai.
