The national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu paid a condolence visit to the Ibadan private residence of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, on Sunday, January 24.
The APC chieftain accompanied by the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Adeyemo, former interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, National Vice Chairman, South-West of the party, Chief Pius Akinyelure, State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, among others.

The team was received by the Olubadan-in council, led by the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun, and Otun Balogun, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin as well as the children of the late foremost traditional ruler, led by Prof. Femi Lana.

The Lagos State Government on Sunday said the state police command had arrested seven suspected cult members, who engaged in a supremacy battle in the Bariga area of the state.

The clash, which occurred on Saturday, led to the killing of a 65-year-old woman.

The deceased, Adejoke Adefuye, was burnt to death after her house on 19, Oshinfolarin Street, Bariga, was set ablaze by the rampaging cults.
It was gathered that trouble started when members of Eiye Confraternity, led by one Ibrahim Balogun, engaged another rival cult, Aiye Confraternity, led by a man identified simply as Gideon, in a supremacy fight in the area.

The two grougs were said to have vandalised some vehicles parked by the roadside in the area, while two members of the Aiye Confraternity — Abiye and Daniel — lost their lives in the clash.

A statement on Sunday quoted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Dolapo Badmus, as confirming the arrest of the cultists, as well as the seizure of some of the weapons used during the bloody clash.

The statement read in part, “Badmus said the second in command of one of the groups was among those arrested, while three power bikes, live and expended cartridges, and a tricycle, popularly known as keke Marwa, used to get to the scene, were confiscated.

“The PPRO said the cult members have been terrorising the area for some days, adding that the police were able to make some arrests due to the quick response to distress calls received concerning the clash.

“Those arrested, according to Badmus, are Afees Fagunwa, Nurudeen Lateef, Richard Ewa, Richard Abayomi, Mohammed Musa, Kayode Dada and Adams Adelakun.”

The statement said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Gbagada General Hospital for autopsy by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, while other occupants of the burnt building who sustained minor injuries were treated by the Lagos State Ambulance Services.

Badmus was quoted as stating that further investigation into the matter had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

Sometime in the third quarter of last year my father fell seriously ill and was rushed to General Hospital Oturkpo, the heartland of Idoma land. We asked that he be taken to Abuja or Jos immediately but we were told that he could not travel. So I rushed home to Oturkpo.

The first thing that hit me when I entered the Oturkpo General hospital where my dad was admitted was the stench. My sister who was there several days before we arrived was seriously mad. I know her being hygiene freak complains about little things but her hysteria told me this must be serious. When she showed me why she had insisted father be taken to Abuja or Jos, I understood immediately. How can a hospital be this unkept and you expect anything serious there? I was devastated but father could not travel, he was frail and weak doctors advised us that he couldn't make it. About a month after I reported this story and it went viral my dad died in a private hospital in Oturkpo, Benue State.

This is the circumstances that took me to General Hospital Oturkpo, if not I wouldn't have gone there and this story would have never been reported. Anyway, somehow someone posted my story on Twitter and I saw it on Linda Ikeji. The story went viral immediately I punched the sent button on my phone.

As my dad laid in the morgue, I went back to look up the pit toilet in Oturkpo General hospital and found out that instead of fix them they locked three of them up and one was being in use. I reported the story again.

Since then what have the Idoma people done about this? Nothing. I EXPECT they would bring it to the attention of their politicians and wealthy Idoma people and let them take the message to the governor of Benue State but they didn't. The fact is that in Idoma land everybody is on their own, fighting for their own interests instead of the interests of the generality of the people. What have we as individual done about the Oturkpo General Hospital story? I expect Idomas to take the streets of Oturkpo and Makurdi and protest against the State Government. What happened? Nothing.

Now you people are looking for someone to blame. I didn't report the story to blame anyone, I reported the story to draw the attention of government to it, to draw Idoma attention to it so that they pile up pressure on the government to fix it.

As enlightened as we are in Idoma land we allow the state government to do whatever the state government wants and get away with it. We just stay and whine about marginalization. We are not even united at all. Our leaders are bunch of greedy people who are all for their interests, we too are like them. That we are the way we are and what we are is our making. We shouldn't go about looking for who to blame.

And please stop blaming Senator David Mark for this and that. After this story was reported, did any of you bring it to his attention? Ok, what about the other very rich Idoma men and women? Did you bring it to their attention? You wouldn't see them in Oturkpo General Hospital because they can afford the best of treatments anywhere in the world. If not that my dad wasn't about to travel you and ended up there you would not definitely see me at General Hospital Oturkpo.

If Idomas want something done, we have to stand and tell the government to do it. We must be united. We must take our problem to people who matter and not just cowardly keep quiet when it matters and whine because whining is easy.

The Nigeria army says it has rescued 370 hostages from Boko Haram. Hassan Umaru, theatre commander of operation lafiya dole, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Maiduguri on Friday, also revealed that troops killed 63 Boko Haram insurgents and foiled some suicide bomb attacks within the week. Speaking through Lucky Irabor, the deputy commander, Umaru said that the troops recovered many “AK47 rifles, ammunition, anti-aircraft gun, RPG, GMPG, IEDs, vehicles and motorcycles among other items from the terrorists”. “Our troops conducted a fighting patrol at Afe, Kudiye, Souma, Dikwa Mijigeta, Mida villages of Borno state. During the operation our troops came in contact with Boko Haram terrorists at Kudiye and Mijigete where 370 hostages were rescued and brought to the IDP camp in Dikwa and three rifles and 41 motorcycles were destroyed,” he said. “The troops also cleared some Boko Haram hideouts in Wala, Tirkopytir and Durubajuwe in Gwoza local government area, where they recovered GMPG, locally made Dane gun and a grinding machine. “In Huyum in Askira/Uba local government area, the terrorists sighting troops abandoned their families behind which include five women and 12 children and were currently undergoing interrogation. “The troops also intercepted three suspected suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Maiduguri, along Maiduguri-Mafa checkpoint of Borno state.” He explained that two female suicide bombers blew themselves up while a male suicide bomber was immediately gunned down while trying to run into the troops at a checkpoint.

Member of the House of Representatives, representing Idah Federal Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Makoji Egwu has been praised for sponsoring the training of over eighty women and youths in his constituency in different forms of skill and entrepreneurial trainings. The training programme was organised in conjunction with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) as well as Golden Gate Integrated Services Limited and sponsored by Hon. (Dr) Emmanuel Makoji Egwu.

Declaring the programme open, Hon. Egwu who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aid, Mr. Alih Jegede described the event as a dawn of a new era of purposeful, committed, visionary and people oriented legislation in Idah Federal Constituency. He noted that the entrepreneurial training, donation of cash and requisite machinery to participants will go a long way in empowering no fewer than 80 women and youths as well as provide the enabling environment for beneficiaries to lift themselves and others above the poverty line.

Addressing participants, an entrepreneurship training consultant, Mrs. Grace Adah urged the participants to always allow their passion for success to override their fear of failure. She called on them to also set realistic goals and work towards achieving the goals. She also stressed the need for self determination and discipline. She further advised them to humble themselves and learn their trades vividly. She further urged the participants to be steadfast when faced with challenges and to avoid placing profit above values.

In his remark, the chairman of Idah Local Government Area, Hon. Paul Ukwenya, described the event as a manifestation of Hon. Egwu's comittement to the delivery of his electioneering campaign promises to the people off Idah Federal Constituency. He also praised him for sponsoring the entrepreneurship training scheme, which he described as highly commendable. He called on the federal lawmaker to sustain the tempo.
Hon Ukwenya also called on the people of the constituency to intensify their support for the PDP; stressing that the party was fully committed to meeting up with the people's yearnings and aspirations. Hon. Ukwenya further called on the participants to make judicious use of the training materials and cash donations to move themselves above the poverty line.

Over eighty participants spread across the four local governments of the constituency which comprises Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela/Odolu, and Ofu.
