COEASU HOLDS NATIONAL CONFERENCE,
SEEKS GOOD FUTURE FOR TEACHING, TEACHERS

@VONNEWS

The 11th annual national conference of the Southwest Zone of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, held on Thursday at the prestigious Adediran Ogusanya College of Education, Oto, Ijanikin, Lagos, inside the expansive Oluremi Tinubu Hall.

With the theme, "The Future of Teacher Education in a Sustainable World", the conference was well attended by COEASU members, national executives , students and sundry education stakeholders. Select participants took turns to appreciate the local organising committee for doing a great job in packaging the programme and adopting a very good theme that tends to address the urgency of now when the education system of Nigeria needs revival.

The Southwest Zonal Coordinator and National Secretary- General, Comrade Taiwo Olayanju, on behalf of the Zonal Executive Council during an opening speech, thanked the management of the college under the leadership of the Provost, Prof.B.B.Lafiaji Okuneye for ensuring an enabling environment for the academic discourse, eulogising her for her commitment to meeting the yearnings of COEASU members despite other needs of the college.

Olayanju however urged the provost to continue the good works and pledged the support of the Union in facilitating her managerial duties.

Comrade Ige Ajayi took to the podium and described AOCOED as a model institution where teachers and caregivers of basic education are quite professional.

He appreciated everyone who is contributing their quota in the forum which will help promote the interests of press service teachers in the College of Education system, expressing hope that the Lead Paper Presenter and Conferees would discuss the theme and sub- themes of this year's conference adequately for the union to come up with a well- articulated communique for presentation to the government and other stakeholders on suggestions for improving teacher education in Nigeria.

Prof. Yemi Ambrose Akinkiotu of the Lagos State University the keynote speaker while presenting his address paid special tribute to AOCOED- COEASU for successfully putting together a conference with a very relevant theme at this point when teacher education is adversely affected by an avalanche of crisis, stressing that this millennium poses challenges to teacher education and teaching as a profession.

Continuing he emphasised " Good education is the product of good teaching and and theInstruction a classroom depends largely on the quality of teacher and his professional competence.
"A well taught teacher is a viable tool for effective education delivery. A continual education of the teachers should be emphasised in educational planning and its development.
There should be a deliberate attempt by the teacher education sector to establish quality and foster a culture of quality in teacher education.
" Students should be encouraged to use information provided by technology. They should be exposed to school practices such as micro teaching, video taped classroom interaction and so on".

Similarly, Prof. Yemi noted, "In a sustainable world, the development of human resources for sustainable development through teaching , counseling, designing and implementing educational policies and objectives that could ensure sustainability.

' Graduates of colleges of education should be awarded B.ED Degrees considering the qualities of some academic members of staff of some colleges of education, the number of candidates seeking admission into the universities and even private universities also supports the arguments to allow colleges of education award B.ED degrees ".
As part of his contribution, Dr. Victor Akinola of the Dept of Curriculum and Instruction, AOCOED, stressed," Education and instruction follow a progressive teaching transmission which makes a typical teacher to be curious forward- thinking and flexible.
"A teacher must be a learner, learning new ways of teaching and learning alongside the students.

As such, teaching parades a lot of preconception that guides an aspiring teacher, beginning teacher and a typo - teacher.

The act of educating people to become teachers is of vital importance to National Development.

The purpose of teacher education according to the National Policy on Education(NPE, 2013) are; to produce highly motivated, conscientious and efficient classroom teacher for all levels of our educational system;to further encourage the spirit of enquiry a and creativity in teachers;to help teachers fit into the social life of the community and society at large, and to enhance their commitment to national objectives, etc"

Dr.Victor Akinola proceeded to suggest more ways through which the teaching profession can be concurrently improved with the education system of Nigeria.

The well attended conference had different segments, the highlight being the presentation of awards of excellence to deserving tutors for their colossal contributions to nation
building through the strategic development of the nation's human resources.

Nairaland / General / State Of The Nation: Nigerian Leaders Behind Suffering, Insecurity- Dr.olasegun by VONN50: 10:34am On Apr 24, 2021
State Of The Nation:

NIGERIAN LEADERS BEHIND SUFFERING, INSECURITY- Dr.Olasegun

@VONNEWS

One time All Nigerian Democratic Party (ANDP) gubernatorial aspirant, Dr.Olusegun Musa, who remains a security professional, in analysing the devastating state of insecurity in Nigeria during a chat with VOICEOUT Nigeria News, attributed the bizarre trend to prolonged mal governance and
inflicting of hardship upon the civil populace.

According to him, those in leadership in Nigeria do not possess the requisite knowledge essential for leadership, stating that such ignorant leaders who do not have have the wherewithal end up creating atmospheres that impose hardship and its adjunct, insecurity.

Emphasizing the fundamental basis of knowledge - base leadership, he affirmed the essentiality of a community or people - based security policies or strategies, stressing that to achieve security, a knowledgeable leader must consider the welfare or wellbeing of the people over and above the amassing of deadly weapons.

Olusegun thought that when you build an angry populace who are grossly impoverished, the society turns a breeding ground for criminality, such that Nigeria is.

Speaking, he asserted, "if we invest in buying arms and gadget s for the police and armed forces, without minding the socio- economic wellbeing of citizens, we consciously breed criminals and those who will connive with them to earn living or stay safe".

On a global perspective, Olusegun viewed that the spate of insecurity is also closely knitted with failed promises made to certain political clients or goons who became dissatisfied.

He also said that leadership elites may just be playing the Ostrich while the kidnapping empires of their acolytes grow to the disadvantage of the economy and citizens, citing when American soldiers successfully invaded the kidnappers den to technically free their citizens held hostage, situation he said that a complacent and conniving leadership can never achieve.
Also blaming our founding fathers for the wrong structure of Nigeria, he pointed that rather than pursue a near egalitarian society, so united, our past leaders sowed this divisive seed along ethnic and religion lines.

Olusegun said it is regrettable that the selfish late leaders are still worshiped today as though they learnt good foundations.

Speaking on the future of the Nigerian child, he expressed confidence that the high level of political consciousness and the clamour for change in the polity show that prosperity awaits tomorrow's people who will sooner or later discard Nigeria's odd culture of corruption and segregation.
He also condemned the continued incarceration of Leah , one of the kidnapped Chibok Girls, in the kidnappers' den, years after.

On the way forward, Olusegun said that only a leadership with knowledge can champion a security system that works.

Urging Nigerians to shun agitations and temptations for disintegration, he averred that a united Nigeria will prosper by and by, but that separation will further break Nigeria into micro powerless nations, sharing that if Nigerians can disregard religious and tribal differences, while instituting a knowledge - based leadership, even citizenship, all will blossom soon, despite the fact that the scar of this present vicious economy will linger long.

Olusegun warned against associating religion with governance, stressing that no one is whether God recognises any of these religions.

He proffered humanitarian works which pleases God more than religious practices in the midst of wickedness.

CRIME: LAGOS LAND GRABBERS WHO OPERATE WITH SOLDIERS, POLICEMEN ARRESTED

@VONNEWS

Operatives from the Area F Police Command, Lagos, yesterday, bursted a team of labourers working for Lagos' serial land grabbers,Femi Ogundare and Festus Rashidi, at the controversial Monkey Village, Ikeja.

According to the family lawyer, Barr. Monye Monye of the Meados and Amures,the bonafide owners of the 12.75 acres of land since 1912 known as Monkey Village, the labourers, an excavator driver, Fagbenro Ogundana and others were nabbed by the police who arrived on invitation of the Meados at the point when they have completed demolition of structures built by the real owners.

Barr Monye stressed that their illegal operations were ordered by Femi and his cohorts who, despite High Court, Appeal Court and Supreme Court injunctions and rulings, have persisted to intrude,invade and destroy things in this expanse of land
that earned its name monkey village nomenclature due to its occupants, which includes the mechanics and miscreants as overgrown weeds is seen to cover the vast land sequel to years of prolonged abandonment. To substantiate Barr's assertion, one of the arrested labourers , Fagbenro confessed to the police that they have acted on Mr. Femi's Ogundare's order, he assumed ownership of a portion of the land after buying illegally from Festus Rashidi.

Reacted to the development, the spokesman for the Meados family, Mr.Tosin Olanrewaju Meados,described Mr.Festus as an impostor about whom the Meados and Amures have published a disclaimer which warned members of the public to avoid any deal with him on behalf of their family as he remains an impostor of the highest degree.

In same vein, Chief Boleja Amure referred to Festus Rashidi as great impostor who remains a great land grabber. He therefore called on the relevant govt agencies and authorities to intervene in this matter which he said has assumed a dangerous dimension with the land grabbers using soldiers and policemen, some of who declared recently to have been drafted from the SCID, Panti, Lagos.

MEDIA AND RIGHTSGROUP PETITIONS PRESIDENT BUHARI ,CALL FOR REMOVAL OF NIRSAL MD, ALIYU ABDULHAMEED ABBATI

@VONNEWS

Civil Rights Groups and Corruption Reporter Communications Ltd, publishers of www.corruptionrepoter.com, an investigative media platform, have called for the removal of Mr. Aliyu Abbatti Abdulhameed, from office as NIRSAL Managing Director/CEO, over the Misappropriations of Farmers Money.

In a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari, Corruption Reporter had alleged that Mr. Abdulhameed had persisted in office without going through the norm of handing over, after his tenure expired on 23rd of December, 2020, having been appointed on December 23rd 2015.

The petition, which was made available to the media, alleged series of acts of impunity against the former MD of NIRSAL and called for his removal as he illegally continues to occupy the office despite the expiration of his tenure.

The petitioners further alleged that, "NIRSAL enjoys all the privileges of being a public institutions (having been created with tax payers’ funds) with zero responsibility to the public as though it were a private institution, yet NIRSAL is not subject to the regulations that guide private organizations”.

The Groups also alleged that Mr Abdulhameed had converted NIRSAL, which was established with a take off grant of 500million US Dollars from the CBN, into a personal fiefdom under his control.

They went on to allege that several investigations had revealed NIRSAL to be corrupt and that its MD had gone to great lengths to suppress such investigations, including a a Board Audit Committee chaired by CBN's Deputy Governor Edward Adamu.

The petition similarly alleged that the company didn’t follow due process in the award of contracts while funds running into billions of Naira were allegedly diverted by Mr Abdulhameed and his son, who the petitioners alleged was arrested in Dubai, UAE, for money laundering.

The petitioners called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up an independent panel of investigation over NIRSAL and its activities under Mr. Aliu Abdulhameed.This they said will restore flagging public confidence in the institution and will ensure that NIRSAL doesn’t discredit the President’s anti-corruption war.

Religion / Religion:pastor Easy Onyeanwu And The Vineyard Of God by VONN50: 5:20pm On Mar 04, 2021
RELIGION:PASTOR EASY ONYEANWU AND THE VINEYARD OF GOD

@Vonnews

Many a preacher of the word will rather go by big names and ostentatious ways, but this humane and down-to-earth yet easy going disseminator of the gospel goes low.

Yes, Pastor Prophet Easy Onyeanwu, Shephered and Chief Custodian of the Christ Battle Solution Assembly,aka battle winners chapel, situated at Ijegun-Ikotun area of Lagos, is a simplistic labourer in God's vineyard.

His entrant into the service and worship of God can be traced to his birth era when his mother dedicated him to God owing to the mystery that surrounded his birth.

It is on record that his fetus would have been aborted by the evil fetish or poison his mother was struck with during pregnancy but for the merciful intervention of God, situation which made his family enrol him for a seminary training requisite for becoming a reverend father, a mission which was truncated by certain factors

Though he was nicknamed reverend father, he opted to develop himself as a servant of God. His foray into the ministry was a divine design to keep him on track as a child of destiny.

And since the end of his service year as a graduate, he only had a few experiences of secular businesses before finally retiring to what is from all indications, his eternal endeavour where he is tied to a vigorous prophetic and deliverance work that became full fledged in 2009.

And for over a decade now, this firebrand prophet of the Most High God has powerfully been behind the christianity brand called, "Christ Battle Solution Assembly", a ministry that has enviably remained a model amongst its likes in the religion hemisphere of Ijegun and its environs.

Little wonder people travel from far and wide to seek spiritual SOLUTIONS to their BATTLES at this torchbearing place of worship and divine solace.

Prophet Easy(call him Pastor if you like) has not only maintained a clean sheet in his ecclesiastical calling, he has also ensured that he runs a charity ministry which tends to continually provide timely succour to any needy in sight, and this philanthropic gesture made him a darling of the people during the torteous pandemic lockdown in Nigeria.

Apart from donations organised in the church premises, his home was also thronged by people who came for one need or the other.He was never spared by those who accosted him on his way to church for same, reasons.Interestingly, him and his amiable wife saw the donations and supports as a labour of love.It will interest you to know that he never consulted his church committee for support during this largesse.

This Imo state born prophetic and deliverance preacher has built a standard which mandates his followers to always and ever expect solutions from Jesus Christ the ultimate mediator and saviour, not from him.

His quiet dispositions provide a facade for his thunderous prophetic pronouncements which continue to astound and astonish!

Bothered about the decline in faith in Nigeria, he remains of the view that pastors and all fathers of faith should let biblical truth lead the way instead of vain promises.

He also condemned disgusting and misleading display of wealth and unnecessary love for materialism by all christians.

MILITARY MADNESS:Army Major Dirisu Ahmed Invades Automobile Shop With Men,Beats Up Dealers,Customers,Seizes 2 Vehicles At Gunpoint

@VONNEWS

At a time when the Nigerian military is poised to reposition for global best practices, one of its own, Dirisu Ahmed, a Major, had recently tarnished the good name of the Nigerian Army by barbarically and lawlessly behaving untrained in Lagos.

 The unruly major had on 18 January,2021 ordered some Military Police men to go to a car port along the popular Lagos Badagry expressway, belonging to one Mr.Uzezi Ephraim, to go get a Toyota bus worth 4.5 million naira with the guise that their boss wanted to purchase it.

As instructed, the Military Police men in uniforms arrived the auto place and tricked Uzezi's boys to test-drive the bus while they also jumped into the vehicle.

While testing, the military officers directed them to head towards the Ojo Barracks , surprised, the auto dealers asked why and the officers retorted saying that their boss was to confirm the vehicle's efficiency.

 At a point of the road, the vehicle developed a mechanical fault and the officers angrily alighted and left, situation which forced the driver and colleague to reverse.

According to Uzezi,CEO of the car port, later that day, Major Dirisu stormed the car port with over six uniformed and unniformed officers, brandishing a pistol, threatened,beat up customers and workers, and eventually commanded his men to seize 2 camry cars of different models.
The lawless officers also forced Uzezi's workers, even customers into these cars and zoomed off.

VONN reporter gathered that the army officers also carted away vehicles' documents and keys belonging to other vehicles, Dirisu and his men also drove their captors to the Ojo barracks, precisely to the office of the provost.

 At the provost office, they were told that the action was due to a debt of 1.5 million naira owed Dirisu by one Festus who was his old schoolmate, whom he gave the sum to buy him a car, which he never did.
Mr.Uzezi and others were told that the vehicles will remain their until Dirisu gets his money from Festus. According to Uzezi, Major Dirisu merely paid a punitive expedition to his company and punished innocent people.

Speaking, Uzezi said, "Festus is a mere hustler who occasionally brought buyers to the car stand, he is not a staff or partner of mine . From all indications, he had a transaction with Dirisu a year before we ever met him."The debt has nothing to with Ephraim Motors"

Mr. Uzezi said that sequel to this development he had arrested Festus and taken him to two different police stations(Okoko and Isashi divisions), from where he was released after Dirisu refused to appear for Festus despite police invitations.
Further, Uzezi confessed to the debt and revealed that he has 500,000 naira to deposit to Dirisu as an instalment to repay his debt.
However, Uzezi said he has reported the matter to the MP office in Apapa and had sent a petition to Zone 2 police command, without Major Dirisu responding.
He therefore calls on relevant authorities to intervene to save him from the problem created by the continual seizure of the vehicles that belong to people who are already pressing for their vehicles.
 Uzezi stressed that Major Dirisu Ahmed serves in PortHarcourt according to disclossures from Festus.

COVID-19:
Nigerians Must Take Safety Measures Seriously

@Vonnews

Against the background of the health threats posed by the second wave of Corona virus, a renowned medical practitioner and Medical Director of Olidec Hospital in Lagos, Dr.Diogui Oliver has urged Nigerians to be mindful of the safety protocols of govt in order to escape the deadly scourge of covid 19.

Dr.Oliver who spoke during a crucial interraction with Voiceout Nigeria News yesterday stressed that the spate of the spread of the disease is intimidating, stressing that the rate of casualty in Nigeria compared to that of foreign lands is small.

He attributed the reduced number of victims to the temperate climate which is not conducive for the free spread of the virus and the possibility of a very strong immune system in some people.

Highlighting some of the symptoms of the virus as fever, sorethroat etc, Dr.Oliver pleaded with Nigerians to embrace the use of facemask and the regular use of sanitizers, warning that the dreaded virus can be transmitted through droplets of fluids from the mouth and nose, amongst others.

Moreso, he said that part of the reasons why people are proving fearless and careless is due to the fact that over the years, diseases like Malaria, chicken pox and others have ravaged Nigerians who lived under a poor healthcare system till their immune system became resistant to any of such ailments.

However he noted that the victims who had other sicknesses such as diabetis and kidney complications are not so lucky. On why the people are doubtful of the entire phenomenon, he asserted the non transparent activities of the govt and their agencies especially during the first wave, which is the major factor why people disbelieve and distrust the intentions of the govt towards combating covid 19.

Dr.Oliver also lamented about the situation where palliatives were hidden rather than shared.

He therefore called for improved education and the equipping of private facilities to expand the healthcare space for the needed attention for victims, urging that not all suspected or confirmed cases should be rushed to isolation centres where serious attention should be paid to people with complicated covid 19 cases.

Finally he advised stakeholders to stop spreading unnecessary panic, stating that the people should be made to know that there are deadlier diseases people should also be conscious of.

Talking about the present Nigerian leadership, Agbonifo emphasised with pain that everything has gone haywire from top to the base, creating an atmosphere so vicious and unsupportive of living and businesses.

She therefore blamed the successive leaderships for consciously allowing things to go from bad to worse, until Nigeria has become a circle of doom.
Agbonifo Proceeded that the task to rebuild Nigeria is everybody's responsibility, but that the political will for such changes must be made available by the present leaders in the face of the rising insecurity and hardship confronting Nigerians.

Ending, she said, that the issue of instituting true federalism for a holistic socio - economic development of Nigeria is sacrosanct and non negotiable, thus that no one person or group should work against any process that could bring it to fruition; now that Nigeria is at a swim or sink era; warning that if the government fails to address the fundamental questions raised during the EndSARS Protest staged by the Nigerian Youth, then, a big palava awaits the nation in the shortest time to come.

DEMOCRACY GETS BETTER IN ALIMOSHO AS YOUTHS CAMPAIGN AGAINST GOD FATHERISM, PRINCE IDRIS BALOGUN SUPPORTS..

@VONNEWS

Following the ongoing campaign against misgovernance, bad leadership and injustice in Nigeria necessitated by the #Endsars and police brutality protest, the youths of Alimosho who have been having issues with some of the political leaders in the area, recently thronged the premises of a leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Alh. Abdullahi Enilolobo, who convened a peace meeting.

The meeting resulted in a fiasco when a war of words ensued between Enilolobo who attempted to cajole the youths and the youth leaders who boldly resisted all attempts to be coaxed into remaining complacent in the face of what they called gang up by a selfish few.

Finding further, VONNEWS reporter revealed how Hon. Kehinde Joseph, a member of the Lagos House of Assembly who was also at the meeting had quickly driven off the venue perhaps for fear of receiving verbal assaults from the youths who declared them unfit and calous.

Some of the youths used the medium to declare that the prince of Isheri Olofin Land and MD/CEO, White Royale Hotel, Idris Balogun, also known as Oluomo is their House of Reps candidate for the 2023 race our reporter also gathered that youths also resisted monetary inducement offered by Enilolobo and told him outrightly that the game of those who hijacked leadership selfishly in Alimosho is up.

All attempts to reach Alh. Enilolobo for comments before filling this report proved abortive.

Nairaland / General / Plank Dealers Were Illegal Occupiers - HRM Wahab Ayinde Balogun by VONN50: 2:23pm On Sep 24, 2020
OJA OBA PROTEST:

PLANK DEALERS WERE ILLEGAL OCCUPIERS - HRM Wahab Ayinde Balogun

@VONNEWS.

Prince of Isheri-Olofin Land and Managing Director, White Royal Hotel, Idris Balogun, has described the protest staged by some traders who recently evacuated the Oja Oba Market after exhausting the period of grace granted by the Legitimate developer, as unlawful and totally misleading, describing the accompanying press reports that attempted to legalise their illegality as unfortunate.

He noted that the Oja Oba Market positioned Very close to the royal seat of Isheri Olofin Kingdom in Egbe-Idimu local council Development Area , Alimosho LGA ,Lagos State had been for years occupied by the plank dealers without any Major official authorisation, and that the Isheri Olofin people through the traditional Leadership had always prayed and planned for a time modern standard; prayer and plan he said gathered momentum since 2016 and become a reality when a developer, Inimitable Integrated Services doughy and got authorisation from the community and the Lagos State authorities for its development.

Condemning the protest further, Prince Balogun stressed that it was shocking to find the traders who evacuated their wares or property peaceful after exhausting the days offered them as ultimatum protesting and drawing unnecessary attention.

He pointed that given the grounds that they occupied the place unlawfully constituted nuisance by emitting quantum dust as pollution to embarrass the royal palace, making the environment an eyesore, when it was supposed to be a beautiful scenery, the traders are supposed to be happy that the traditional Leadership and the royal family have taken appropriate steps to develop the market for the good for all.

Prince Idris Balogun therefore called for understanding and calm in the land, assuring that law abiding plank dealers are already entitled to a place already provided for their business by the Isheri Olofin community.

Wondering, why plank dealers leader raised the alarm all the due process maintained by the community, he asked, " why would a people who occupied a commercial ground for years without paying royalty to any legitimate community or government organ summon the audacity to stage a misleading protest, even when they know they were merely usurping the land ?

"Why should they shed crocodile tears after years of illicit occupation and exploitation of the local family or community?

"Why should they make efforts to truncate the development strides of the Isheri Olofin people derived by exploring authorised channels that has now provided the relevant office or government documents and endorsement ?"

He however urged the public to disregard the actions of the trader and their cohort which was targeted at sabotaging the process to actualising the agelong development agenda of the great people of Isheri Olofin land, who are yearning for more modern structure and infrastructure in a world that continue to evolve.on behalf of the Isheri Olofin people, he tendered the relevant authorisations that warranted the developers legitimate developmental action; affirming that neither the developer nor the community applied force or unlawfulness in the entire process.
