COURT FREEZES ACTIVITIES IN RIVER PARK ESTATE AS POLICE LETTER STIRS CONTROVERSY ABUJA — The ownership tussle over the multi-billion-naira River Park Estate along Airport Road, Abuja, has taken a fresh turn after a High Court order halted all activities on the disputed property, with a controversial police letter now raising questions of interference. On August 21, 2025, Justice C. O. Agashieze of the Abuja High Court, sitting in Suit No. CV/2902/2025 between Jonah Capital Nigeria Limited and Paulo Homes Nigeria Limited, directed parties to maintain the status quo pending determination of the substantive suit. The order also restrained all actors from interfering with the developments in contention, including Paulo Boulevard and Aazik Homes. The ruling suspends construction and property sales within the estate, which has long attracted high-net-worth Nigerians and diaspora investors seeking premium housing. Dispute and Overlapping Claims The River Park conflict began as a contest over land titles but has expanded into a wider institutional test, with allegations of forged incorporation records, multiple pending lawsuits, and administrative decisions under scrutiny. A ministerial committee set up by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is already investigating the crisis, but the latest courtroom development has shifted attention to the role of the police. Commissioner’s Letter in Focus The controversy stems from a letter dated August 7, 2025, authored by Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede. The letter, tendered in court by Paulo Homes’ lawyers, instructed that all government dealings concerning River Park Estate be routed through Paulo Homes. Addressed to the Director of Land Administration and copied to the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) and Development Control, the letter effectively recognized Paul Odili, CEO of Paulo Homes, as the estate’s sole owner despite ongoing litigation. Legal experts say such recognition risks prejudging the matter and may influence administrative agencies that rely on police correspondence in land enforcement processes. Contradicting AGF and IGP Orders The letter has attracted attention because it appears to defy earlier directives from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). In June 2025, the AGF instructed the police to withdraw criminal proceedings in Charge No. CR/402/25 and submit the case file for independent review. On July 2, the IGP also directed Fakorede to widen investigations into alleged forged CAC records linked to River Park. According to sources, these directives were not implemented. Instead, Fakorede issued letters to land-related agencies reinforcing Paulo Homes’ claim. Concerns of Collusion Civil society groups monitoring land administration in the FCT have expressed concerns that the selective circulation of Fakorede’s letter to AGIS and Development Control suggests an attempt to shape official records and approvals. “This is not just about land ownership; it raises questions about whether agencies can be influenced outside of due process,” a senior lawyer said. Investors in Uncertainty The development has unsettled investors and homeowners. River Park, marketed as a secure residential hub, now has billions of naira worth of properties under judicial freeze. Analysts warn that continued instability could discourage real estate investment in Abuja, a sector critical to the FCT’s revenue. Call for Accountability Civil society groups have called for a forensic audit of AGIS and Development Control records relating to River Park, alongside an independent probe into police correspondence on the matter. Some groups have urged that Commissioner Fakorede be excused from further handling of the case pending investigations. Next Steps Attention now turns to the ministerial committee set up by the FCT Minister, which is expected to review title records and administrative decisions relating to River Park. Until then, activities within the estate remain suspended under the court’s order, while questions persist over institutional integrity in Nigeria’s land governance system. Loveline Agbonifo @Vonnews

CP AKIN FAKOREDE ACCUSED OF UNDERMINING WIKE’S RIVER PARK COMMITTEE Abuja, Nigeria — Fresh controversy has erupted over the disputed River Park Estate in Abuja as Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, Head of the IGP Monitoring Team, has been accused of undermining the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister. Fakorede, who was recently promoted, reportedly issued a letter on August 7, 2025, to the Director of Land Administration, directing that all official dealings concerning River Park Estate be handled through Paulo Homes Nigeria Limited, owned by Dr. Sampson Uche Odili. The letter was also copied to the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), the Development Control Department, and Odili. The move comes despite an earlier directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who on July 2, 2025, ordered a fresh investigation into the long-running dispute during a meeting with stakeholders. The IGP had clarified that the police do not have the authority to adjudicate on land ownership issues, which are matters for the courts. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, is also still reviewing the case and had instructed the police to suspend actions on the matter pending the outcome of his review. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had only recently inaugurated a ministerial committee to resolve the dispute and had publicly warned against interference from vested interests. Fakorede’s letter, issued before the committee’s first sitting, has therefore been described by sources as an attempt to influence the process. Police sources said the matter may now force the authorities to suspend Fakorede from further involvement in the case. The River Park Estate dispute has been ongoing for years and continues to attract public attention as government agencies, private developers, and residents await a final resolution. ⸻ Loveline Agbonifo @ Vonnews

PROPERTY BATTLE TURNS CHAOTIC IN LAGOS: WAREHOUSE TENANTS, LEGAL PROPERTY OWNER, ACCUSE WOMAN OF ILLEGAL TAKEOVER, DEMAND JUSTICE A serious property conflict is unfolding at Plot 60, Chief T.A. Doherty Layout, Morison Crescent, Oregun, Ikeja, where warehouse occupants and legal landowners have accused Mrs. Otti Funke Olayinka, the Managing Director of C.T.S.R. Properties Limited, of masterminding a fraudulent lease and orchestrating violent eviction efforts. During a detailed media briefing, those affected recounted how their tenancy, which began in 2021 under what they believed was a valid agreement, has turned into a prolonged ordeal involving police, the EFCC, and multiple alleged illegal attempts to eject them from the property. The tenants, who had relocated from Isolo, signed a two-year lease for ₦25 million annually, complete with postdated cheques for the second year. However, their peace was short-lived. Just a few months into occupying the premises, they were served with a legal notice from a separate lawyer claiming the lease was invalid and that C.T.S.R. Properties had no ownership rights. Attempts to clarify ownership and meet with Mrs. Olayinka were rebuffed, with the agent claiming she “doesn’t meet tenants.” Legal threats followed, and staff members were detained by police—despite no wrongdoing on their part. Matters escalated when the EFCC stepped in but failed to make meaningful progress after initial statements were taken. Mr. Babajide Debayo Doherty, one of the recognized beneficiaries of the estate, spoke at the briefing, clarifying that the land in question was part of the estate of Chief T.A. Doherty. In 2014, a 50-year sublease was issued to CTSR Properties at an unusually low rate of ₦250,000 per acre per year for the first decade—amounting to only ₦445,750 for the first year. The arrangement, he explained, was executed under questionable family dynamics and has since become the center of multiple breaches of contract. Despite occupying the land, Mrs. Olayinka reportedly paid only ₦250,000 to date and went on to sublease the property to others without seeking approval from the actual landlords—a clear violation of her lease terms. More alarming is her alleged false claim of ownership in contracts issued to tenants. The conflict intensified when a group of policemen, bailiffs, and thugs—accompanied by bulldozers—stormed the property, forcibly ejecting tenants, dismantling parts of the warehouse, and locking out security staff. The order presented was discovered to have originated from a suspicious court judgment involving unfamiliar names, raising questions about its legitimacy. In response, a petition was filed by Country Hill Attorneys & Solicitors on behalf of Mr. Babajide Debayo Doherty, Mrs. Abimbola Biobaku, and Mrs. Funmilayo Jawando against Mrs. Olayinka, Mr. Babatunde Wusu, and C.T.S.R. Properties Limited. The petition—submitted to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon—lists serious allegations, including fraud, impersonation, breach of trust, conspiracy, and criminal damage. While a police team from Alagbon was eventually deployed to regain control of the property, the accused party allegedly returned days later—this time with a larger bulldozer and a fresh group of enforcers. Several area boys were arrested, but Mrs. Olayinka remains at large and is said to coordinate her actions under the cover of night. In a high-level meeting at AIG Zone 2, Mrs. Olayinka failed to produce any proof of family notification before reselling or subletting her lease and could not present documentation of payments received. Meanwhile, tenants say she continues to ignore an ongoing court case seeking to terminate her lease. “This is not just a civil matter anymore,” one tenant said. “It’s a calculated attempt to use force to hijack private property.” Authorities have ordered all parties to maintain status quo while investigations proceed. The property remains under police surveillance. Repeated attempts to contact Mrs. Otti Funke Olayinka were unsuccessful, as her phone number remains unreachable. Reporting: Loveline Agbonifo

"We urge the public to verify any claims of affiliation through CAC records before engaging in any business with these individuals," the spokesperson said. FRESH TWIST IN RIVER PARK DISPUTE AS POLICE REOPEN INVESTIGATION In a dramatic turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force has reopened the investigation into the River Park Estate controversy, following a direct intervention by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun. The development has nullified key assertions made during a June 27 press briefing, in which Deputy Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede had declared the investigation "concluded" and described businessman Paul Odili as "Owner of River Park". The police authorities have confirmed that the charges initially filed on June 26, 2025, against Sir Samuel Jonah, Kojo Ansah Mensah, Victor Quainoo, and legal practitioner Abu Arome will now be subject to review. A senior police source said: "The charges are expected to be formally withdrawn pending completion of the fresh investigations ordered by the IGP." The IGP's directive has clarified that the police investigation is strictly focused on allegations of forgery, not land ownership disputes. During a July 2 meeting with parties involved, the IGP reportedly stated: "The NPF's investigation is strictly focused on allegations of forgery – not land matters or ownership… only courts can vest or divest land rights." This position is anchored in Section 32(2) of the Police Act 2020. The police authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains open and ongoing, in line with the IGP's directive. In a WhatsApp exchange dated July 20 between legal representatives and the FPRO, police authorities confirmed: "The police are carrying out more investigations on the matter as directed by the IGP." The River Park Estate dispute has been ongoing for some time, with multiple parties claiming ownership of the estate. The dispute has led to tensions between the parties involved and has also affected the residents of the estate. The implications of the IGP's intervention are significant. The police's earlier conclusion that the investigation was concluded and the subsequent press briefing had sparked controversy and raised questions about the role of the police in the dispute. "The IGP's directive is a welcome development," a lawyer said. "It shows that the police are committed to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served." The reaction to the development has been mixed, with some stakeholders welcoming the IGP's intervention and others expressing concerns about the potential impact on the dispute. "The IGP's directive is a positive step towards resolving the dispute," a stakeholder said. "However, it remains to be seen how the investigation will be conducted and what the outcome will be." IGP's intervention in the River Park Estate dispute has brought a fresh twist to the controversy. The police's decision to reopen the investigation and focus strictly on allegations of forgery is a significant development that could potentially impact the outcome of the dispute. As the investigation continues, stakeholders await the outcome and the judiciary's decision on rightful ownership. *FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS* The dispute remains entangled in at least ten active lawsuits, reinforcing the IGP's stance that the courts – not the police – are constitutionally empowered to determine ownership. The outcome of the renewed investigation and the judiciary's decision will likely determine the next steps in the dispute resolution process. "The ball is now in the court of the police and the judiciary," a lawyer said. "We await the outcome of the investigation and the court's decision on rightful ownership." Residents of the estate continue to bear the brunt of the legal and administrative confusion. Documents reportedly show RERA advising homeowners against "payments that may compromise legal rights," while the NNPC Staff Club condemned what it described as the "denial of essential services" to legitimate occupants. Facilities designated for community use – including schools and clinics – reportedly remain blocked by private security operatives. "The situation is becoming increasingly unbearable," a resident said. "We just want the dispute to be resolved so that we can live in peace." The police's role in the dispute has been under scrutiny, with some questioning their jurisdiction in the matter. The IGP's directive has clarified that the police's investigation is strictly focused on allegations of forgery, not land ownership disputes. "The police's decision to reopen the investigation is a positive step," a lawyer said. "It shows that they are committed to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served." The next steps in the dispute resolution process will likely depend on the outcome of the renewed investigation and the judiciary's decision on rightful ownership. Stakeholders await the outcome of the investigation and the court's decision. "We are hopeful that the dispute will be resolved in a fair and just manner," a stakeholder said. "We await the outcome of the investigation and the court's decision." @Vonnews Agbonifo loveline

*LAWYER CRIES OUT OVER LAND GRABBERS' USE OF POLICE TO INTIMIDATE, DISPOSSESS CLIENTS* Abuja, Nigeria - A legal practitioner, Abu Arome, has raised the alarm over the alleged use of the Nigeria Police Force by land grabbers to intimidate and dispossess his non-Nigerian clients of their property. In a piece titled "My Odyssey: Battling Land Grabbers in the Pursuit of Justice," Arome revealed how his clients, after approaching the courts in September 2024 to challenge an "unlawful encroachment," were suddenly targeted with criminal allegations. According to Arome, his clients have been subjected to a vicious campaign of harassment and intimidation by a "notorious land predator" determined to dispossess them of their property. "For over 13 years, no one ever accused my clients of forgery," Arome said. "That changed immediately after they dared to protect what was lawfully theirs." Arome lamented that routine corporate documents "became 'forgeries'," and that even he had been accused "for events allegedly committed in 2009 and 2013, years during which I was still a university student." He decried what he called "the deeper, more systemic rot," stressing that "I have seen how society, our media, our public institutions, and even many of our colleagues accept these injustices without scrutiny." The lawyer called for reforms, urging that "The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) should, by law, be required to review ALL criminal investigations before any trial is initiated." He warned that "our justice system cannot be great if the innocent must suffer to prove their innocence, or if lawyers are punished for standing on the side of truth." Concluding, Arome declared: "The fight for justice, in this case, is no longer just about land. It is about the soul of our legal system... May truth prevail: May Nigeria be great again." Arome's allegations raise serious concerns about the role of the Nigeria Police Force in the dispute. According to him, the police have been used to intimidate and harass his clients, and to advance the interests of the land grabbers. "The police have been used to file false charges against my clients," Arome said. "This is a clear case of police bias and abuse of power." Arome's call for reforms highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in the justice system. By requiring the Office of the AGF to review all criminal investigations before trial, Arome believes that the system can be made more just and fair. "This is a necessary step towards ensuring that justice is served," Arome said. "We need to ensure that our justice system is not used to intimidate and harass innocent people." The implications of Arome's allegations are far-reaching. If true, they suggest a deep-seated problem of corruption and abuse of power in the justice system. "The allegations made by Arome are serious and disturbing," a human rights activist said. "If true, they highlight the need for greater accountability and transparency in the justice system." Arome's allegations raise serious concerns about the role of the Nigeria Police Force in the dispute. His call for reforms highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in the justice system. The implications of his allegations are far-reaching, and it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond. It is not clear whether an investigation is currently underway into Arome's allegations. However, given the seriousness of the allegations, it is imperative that a thorough investigation is conducted to get to the bottom of the matter. "The authorities must take these allegations seriously and conduct a thorough investigation," a lawyer said. "If true, the allegations highlight a deep-seated problem of corruption and abuse of power in the justice system." Ultimately, justice must be served in this case. If Arome's allegations are true, then his clients have been subjected to a grave injustice. The authorities must take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served and that the rule of law is upheld. "Justice must be served in this case," Arome said. "My clients have been subjected to a vicious campaign of harassment and intimidation, and it is imperative that the authorities take action to stop this.” @VONNEWS Loveline Agbonifo

CONTROVERSIAL MEETING AT RIVER PARK ESTATE RAISES EYEBROWS OVER ALLEGED EXTORTION AND DOCUMENT FORGERY Abuja, June 28, 2025- A meeting held on Saturday at Perseverance Towers in River Park Estate has sparked controversy among residents and stakeholders following allegations of extortion, forged documentation, and misinformation. The meeting, convened by Paul Odili and supported by Adrian Ogunmuyiwa and South African national John Townley Johnson, was reportedly organized to celebrate a so-called “victory” over Ghanaian investors following a press conference earlier held by police officer Akin Fakorede. However, testimonies from residents who attended the meeting suggest a more troubling agenda. According to attendees, Mr. Odili made several questionable claims and demands. He allegedly informed residents that he would block waste disposal trucks from entering the estate unless they paid service charges directly to him, asserting that he alone would now be responsible for providing such services. Odili reportedly presented a document which he claimed was forged by the Ghanaian investors, stating that this was the basis for ongoing police investigations. He further accused Kojo Ansah and Mr. Victor of evading invitations from the EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force. Residents were told to make payments to Mr. Odili within a week in exchange for the processing of their Rights of Occupancy and Certificates of Occupancy, raising concerns about the legality of such directives. A subsequent investigation into the documents presented at the meeting tells a different story. A search conducted at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) revealed that the filings in question were not submitted by the Ghanaian investors, but by lawyers acting on behalf of Jonah Capital. CAC records show that the filing was done by LD Sharkwarku through Hassan Hussein, a registered legal practitioner whose contact details and NBA registration are clearly documented. Further developments show that a forthcoming report by the Special Investigation Panel contains a sworn statement from Mr. Hussein and his associates. In their statement, they affirm they had no direct dealings with the Ghanaian investors and were instead contracted by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Ogunmuyiwa to prepare the corporate filings for Jonah Capital. In fact, CAC filings indicate that Ghanaian businessman Sir Samuel Jonah was allocated 7.5 million out of 8 million shares in Houses for Africa Holdings. The filings were signed by Mr. Adeniran Ogunmuyiwa, who was present at the aforementioned press conference organized by Mr. Fakorede. In a revealing twist, an email dated July 4, 2012, from one Kehinde Yinka (copied to Mr. Ogunmuyiwa) shows a share certificate, signed by Barrister Wilson (also present at the press conference), being transmitted to Kojo Ansah. This casts serious doubt on claims of forgery and suggests that the narrative being pushed may be part of a coordinated effort to discredit and dispossess the Ghanaian stakeholders. Observers now question whether Mr. Fakorede, in his role as Head of Monitoring, thoroughly vetted the documents or interviewed their authors before publicly implicating the Ghanaians. The available evidence raises the possibility of a deliberate attempt by the Fakorede-led team to mislead the Nigerian public and the office of the Inspector General of Police. When contacted, representatives of the Ghanaian investors stated that they are awaiting an invitation from the Attorney General’s office, where they intend to present documents and evidence that they believe will fully exonerate them from the allegations leveled by the Police. The River Park Estate dispute has been ongoing for several months, with multiple petitions filed by both parties. The Ghanaian investors have accused the Nigerian police of bias and harassment, while the police have claimed that the Ghanaians are involved in forgery and other illicit activities. The Special Investigation Panel, led by DCP Usman Ahmed Imam, was established to investigate the matter. However, the panel's findings have been called into question, with some alleging that the report was tampered with or manipulated. The controversy surrounding the River Park Estate dispute has significant implications for the Nigerian business environment and the rule of law. If the allegations of extortion and document forgery are proven true, it could lead to serious consequences for those involved. Moreover, the case highlights the need for transparency and accountability in business dealings and law enforcement. The Nigerian government must take steps to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that the rights of all parties are protected. The controversy surrounding the River Park Estate dispute is a complex and multifaceted issue. While the allegations of extortion and document forgery are serious, it is essential to allow the legal process to run its course and for all parties to present their evidence. FEDERAL HIGH COURT STOPS NIGERIA POLICE OTHERS FROM ARRESTING OBSTRUCTING GHANAIAN INVESTORS IN RIVER PARK ESTATE CASE The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a significant ruling in a case involving Ghanaian investors and Nigerian law enforcement officials. The court has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other respondents not to harass, arrest, or obstruct the Ghanaian businessmen who filed a suit alleging violation of their fundamental human rights. The suit, filed under number FHC/ABJ/CS/1130/2025, was initiated by directors of JonahCapital Nigeria Limited and their Ghanaian partners under the investment consortium Houses for Africa. The plaintiffs include renowned Ghanaian businessman Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Kojo Ansah Mensah, Victor Quainoo, and their legal counsel, Abu Arome. The defendants in the suit include the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale; the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, DCP Akin Fakorede; EFCC Zonal Commander Michael Wetkas; EFCC investigator Eunice Vou Dalyop; and one Kabiru Baba. The plaintiffs are demanding N200 million in exemplary damages, citing repeated instances of harassment, arbitrary arrests, and abuse of state power by top law enforcement officials. The court's ruling includes an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants from further inviting, intimidating, harassing, or detaining the plaintiffs, their privies, agents, and officers. The court also ordered the defendants to refrain from interfering with, obstructing, or restricting the plaintiffs' access, use, quiet, and peaceful enjoyment of their property, specifically Plot No 4, Cadastral Zone E30, Lugbe West, otherwise known as River Park Estate, Lugbe, Abuja. The dispute at the center of the case involves a contested ownership claim over portions of River Park Estate, an upscale residential development in Abuja. The Inspector-General of Police had launched a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) led by DCP Usman Ahmed Imam to investigate multiple petitions related to the dispute. However, the plaintiffs allege that the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, DCP Akin Fakorede, launched a new investigation intended to override or suppress the findings of the SIP. The Ghanaian investors claim they have faced continuous intimidation, including repeated police invitations under duress, surveillance, and physical manhandling. They argue that the actions of Nigerian law enforcement officials have escalated what began as a civil property dispute into an international diplomatic crisis. The case has sparked concerns over Nigeria's rule of law, the integrity of its law enforcement institutions, and the safety of foreign investments. The controversy comes at a time when Nigeria is aggressively courting foreign direct investment (FDI), with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration claiming to have secured over $30 billion in international commitments in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology. Critics warn that high-profile incidents like the River Park dispute may undermine investor confidence if not handled transparently and justly. The plaintiffs have petitioned the Police Service Commission to investigate the conduct of senior officers involved, accusing them of professional misconduct and misuse of law enforcement apparatus for private interest. The court's ruling is a significant development in the case, and it remains to be seen how the defendants will respond to the allegations and the court's orders. The case highlights the need for transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in Nigeria's law enforcement institutions, particularly in cases involving foreign investments and diplomatic relations. In conclusion, the Federal High Court's ruling is a crucial step towards resolving the dispute and ensuring that the rights of the Ghanaian investors are protected. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their nationality or investment interests. @Vonnews Princess Agbonifo

Akin Fakorede brings SHAME to Nigeria police DCP Akin Fakorede the Head of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, Abuja, is currently under fire over his alleged role in frustrating justice and stopping work at the River Park Estate in a dispute involving some Ghanaian investors. News reporters learnt that DCP Fakorede was accused of bias against the Ghanaian businessmen including Kojo Ansah Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of Houses For Africa. The IGP Monitoring Unit Head was also accused of failing to act on the investigation report by the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) led by DCP Usman Ahmed Imam, following multiple petitions. "Where is the report of the Panel and what are the contents of that report? Is it true that Fakorede is preparing his own version to suppress the report of the SIP?" a top police source queried on Friday. "Why is Fakorede claiming Ghanaians forged some documents without interviewing the lawyers who prepared the documents? Why is Fakorede meeting Lawyers of Paul Odili; Adrian Ogunmuyiwa and John Johnson (the other parties) in his office to plot schemes against the Ghanaian businessmen?" He added. It was earlier reported that a petition obtained by journalists revealed serious allegations of bias and misconduct against officers of the Nigeria Police Force deployed to the River Park Estate in Abuja, accusing them of siding with a private developer, Paulo Homes, in a contentious property dispute. The letter, dated May 16, 2025, and signed by Kojo Ansah Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Houses For Africa, was addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, and copied to the Acting High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana, the Inspector-General of Police, and other top police officials. In the letter titled “Concerns of Bias by Police Officers Deployed to River Park Estate,” the real estate company expressed outrage over what it described as the police officers’ “conspicuous” presence only on their uncontested land, designated for the Jonah Court project, while abandoning actual contentious plots where stop-work orders had been issued. “These officers were assigned to maintain peace, prevent any breakdown of law and order, and ensure compliance with the stop-work directive issued by the Special Investigative Panel of the Inspector General of Police on contentious lands in the Estate, specifically Clusters 1A, Sector Center and 5A,” the letter had read. "The FCT Commander should explain why he is using his officers to intimidate Ghanaians and stop them from working. He should also be asked why DPO Tile was removed. Several petitions were written to his office including why Paul Odili is being allowed to work in areas where there are court orders not to work. But he never responded," the source added. “However, contrary to their mandate of impartiality, the officers have conspicuously stationed themselves solely on our land designated for the Jonah Court project, which is NOT part of the contentious areas; leaving the Paulo Homes team to continue work unimpeded on contentious areas, namely Plots 1A, Sector Centre, and 5A.” the petition had added. The company further alleged that heavy machinery belonging to Paulo Homes was deliberately parked on its uncontested land without any challenge or action from the police officers present. “What is extremely alarming is that the police officers present have been relocated from all areas of contention in the Estate to our Jonah Court land which is not under contention, leaving the areas under contention namely Sector Center, 5A and 1A unmanned for Paulo Homes to develop in contravention of the orders of the SIP of the IGP,” the letter stated. Recall that reporters also reported that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was sued before a Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of intimidation, harassment, and violation of fundamental human rights tied to the controversial land dispute at the prestigious River Park Estate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The legal action, filed under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1130/2025, was initiated by directors of JonahCapital Nigeria Limited and their Ghanaian partners under the investment consortium Houses for Africa, including renowned Ghanaian businessman Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Kojo Ansah Mensah, Victor Quainoo, and their legal counsel, Abu Arome. Also named as defendants in the suit are the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale; the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, DCP Akin Fakorede; EFCC Zonal Commander Michael Wetkas; EFCC investigator Eunice Vou Dalyop; and one Kabiru Baba. The plaintiffs are demanding N200million in exemplary damages, citing repeated instances of harassment, arbitrary arrests, and the abuse of state power by top law enforcement officials. According to the claimants, these actions are connected to a contested ownership claim over portions of River Park Estate, an upscale residential development in Abuja. At the heart of the dispute is an earlier investigation launched by the Inspector-General of Police through a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) led by DCP Usman Ahmed Imam, following multiple petitions. It was also earlier reported that protesters on Wednesday stormed the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana's capital, asking the commissoner to prevail on the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government to intervene in some cases of alleged harassment of Ghanaian businesses in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The protesters, according to photos obtained by journalists on Wednesday, stormed the Nigerian High Commission in Roman Ridge, Accra, with placards, demanding a safe busines environment for Ghanaian businesses while referencing recent harassments by the Nigerian police. Speaking in a video obtained by journalists , one of the protesters, James Clark, under the aegis of the Concerned Citizens of Ghana (CCG) urged the Nigerian commissioner to wade in and end the harassment by the Nigerian police. He had said, "Some Nigerian elements are harassing the Ghanaian business interests in Abuja, the nation's capital. The Ghanaians led by Mr Essien Jonah who have a number of firms went to court in a civil dispute. You see we live peacefully with our Nigerian brothers in Ghana. We got married to each other and all. "But presently, our Ghanaian brothers in Nigeria are being harassed and we just want the Commissioner to talk to the Nigerian Inspector-General of Police and the Nigerian Immigration Service and talk to the Nigerian president so that everything will be peaceful and this harassment will stop." It was also reported on Tuesday that the Nigerian police under the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police of the FCT, Ajao Adewale, and the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters, DCP Akin Fakorede, were dragged to court by the developers of River Park Estate in Abuja, Jonah Capital and their Ghanaian promoters. The plaintiffs had alleged the continuous violation of their fundamental human rights in a matter concerning the estate in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. WORRIES!!! ACT and ACT NOW!!! UTME 2025 FAILURE RATE: ECAN CALLS FOR A RETURN TO STRONG FOUNDATION THROUGH QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION The Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (ECAN) expresses grave concern over the alarming high failure rate recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) through press release today May 8th 2025. “When the foundation is weak, the entire structure is at risk.” Prof Babajide stated. This age-old truth resonates powerfully in the current educational climate. While national conversations center around secondary and tertiary education reforms, ECAN urges stakeholders to look deeper to the foundational years of a child's development, where true academic success begins. Academic excellence does not start in secondary school or at the gates of the university. It begins in the early years, when the brain is most malleable and learning patterns are formed. Research from Nigeria and across the globe consistently demonstrates that children who receive quality Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) perform better academically, socially, and emotionally throughout life. ECAN believes that the current educational crisis is a direct consequence of neglecting this foundational stage. The lack of investment in early learning has left many children underprepared, contributing significantly to the failures observed in later academic milestones like the UTME. “We must return to strong foundations. Quality ECCDE is not a luxury—it is a right, a necessity, and the cornerstone of national development. For Nigeria to reverse its learning crisis, urgent steps must be taken to transform early childhood education across the country.” Prof Abidogun Babajide stressed ECAN therefore calls on all stakeholders—government, policymakers, parents, educators, development partners, and civil society—to prioritize early childhood education through the immediate establishment of a National ECCDE Commission. “Without a strong foundation, interventions at later stages are mere patchwork. The high UTME failure rate is not an isolated issue—it is a symptom of a deeper structural problem. We cannot continue to build the future of our nation on shaky grounds.” Prof Abidogun Babajide stated. “The time to act is now. The establishment of the ECCDE Commission is not just overdue—it is imperative for the survival, stability, and sustainable progress of Nigeria. Let us stop mortgaging our future by neglecting our youngest citizens.” He said. Let us save the future of our children. ACT, and ACT NOW. Goodness Eneyo @Vonnews

NEWS Call for justification and support for the Establishment of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Commission in Nigeria—Fowowe Simeon The National President Association of Nursery and Primary Education Professionals in Nigeria (ANPEPN), teacher Fowowe Simeon Sunday spoke on the justification and support for ECE commission in Nigeria. In his prolong release, Fowowe said he is honored on behalf of his people to affirm the association’s unwavering support for the establishment of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Commission in Nigeria. The foundational years of a child’s life—ages 0 to 5—are globally recognized as the most formative for cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. In Nigeria, however, Early Childhood Education is often inadequately regulated, inconsistently delivered, and insufficiently resourced. Early Childhood Education Commission serve as a dedicated body to standardize and regulate ECE curriculum and caregiver training. It drive investment in child-friendly infrastructure and age-appropriate learning tools. “This is not just a structural reform—it is a visionary step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4.2, which targets inclusive and equitable quality early childhood education for all children.” Fowowe said. Fowowe stated though not the primary drivers, ANPEPN has been a consistent ally in the struggle for ECE reform. Over the past two years, ANPEPN has organized National ECE Policy Roundtables in Abuja and Lagos, drawing stakeholders from public, private, and international organizations. ANPEPN has hosted over 50 ECE-focused training workshops in the last three years. “Our leadership has featured in interviews and articles in The Guardian, Punch, and Radio Nigeria vocally supporting ECE reforms and echoing the call for an autonomous commission to ensure sustainability and efficiency in early learning management.” He said. “As the National President of ANPEPN, I reiterate our full endorsement of this effort. We urge the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, and all relevant stakeholders to act decisively. Let us institutionalize this vital component of education and secure Nigeria’s human capital development from the ground up.” Fowowe said. Goodness Eneyo @Vonnews

FEAR!! AS ASUU- LASUED CHAPTER HOLDS WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE. WARNED ON NEXT ACTION... The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), Lagos State university of Education (LASUED) chapter holds a world press conference which focused on the welfare of staff members, challenges facing the universities and educational sectors. The conference comprises of staff members, union leaders, stakeholders and media personnel who gathered to proffer solution to the myriads of problems facing the university, educational sectors and staff welfare. The union while addressing members, the media and the World, expoundon the challenges of the members amongst which includes; The harrmonization with the national wage structure, especially the increase of the 25% to 35%..The Union lamented that while other workers in Lagos State for the past one year, have been enjoying this increment, the tertiary institutions have not benefited in similar measure. As a result of the pressure that was mounted, the implementation of the increment started this January with shocking irregularities. On the issue of Salary, he said Lagos State should pay higher than other states according to the judgment of the industrial court of arbitration in 2002,but in reality, there are some states paying higher salaries than Lagos State. Lagos State as the centre of excellence should do better and implement the salary structure accordingly.. The Union said, staff members are being owed 72 months outstanding incremental rate and arrears. According to him, other institutions in Lagos State have received their allowances on hazard and transport, while it remains a debt for LASUED. The Union demand the payment of these debts/arrears as it has created a significant financial strain on their members. Other issues raised, was the outstanding pension remittance. that the non payment/inconsistencies in paying these contributions undermines staff trust in the institution which creates uncertainty about their future retirement. ASUU - LASUED demand immediate action towards remitting these outstanding pension funds. In the same vein, the Union said there is discrimination between those staff having certificates from private universities and that these certificates from private universities are not recognized. It was stressed that if these private universities are accredited by the NUC, then, they should be recognized. Furthermore, it was lamentable to know that the university campuses, both at Noforija/Epe and Oto/Ijanikin suffer extreme power outrage and inadequate water supply. Also, the university network infrastructure is severely epileptic which makes it difficult for both staff and students to access online resources and engage in essential academic activities. Poor internet connectivity hampers both learning and teaching, as such, urgency is required to address this issue so that contemporary standards can be attained. On the university infrastructure, the Union said the university office facilities such as insufficient space, and old furnitures and other essential office supplies are all in poor conditions which consequently affects staff productivity. In addition, there is no official vehicles for non of the Dean's of faculties and Heads of departments. These officials cars are very necessary in enabling staff carry out their duties seamlessly, but it's absent hampers staff performance. Other concerns raised were the lopsided admission process where there is preferential treatment and bias in admission of students to the university. A more transparent process was advocated. The issue of high-handedness in matters concerning staff especially as it pertains to their grievances was also raised while a transparent and open dialogue between the administration and staff was recommended so as to build trust and promote an harmonious working environment. in concluding the address, it was reiterated that all the Issues raised by ASUU - LASUED reflect the critical challenges faced by the university and the need to urgently address these concerns so that confidence can be restored between the university administration and staff. Also, it will improve staff morale, create a more productive academic environment. By prioritizing the implementation of fair compensation, appropriate infrastructure and adherence to academic standards, the university can secure a positive future for both staff and students and ensures that the university remains a respected institution of higher learning. Failure to resolve these issues promptly could lead to further industrial actions, damage the institutions reputations and undermine its academic mission.. KINGSLEY EFIONAYI VONN

TROUBLE CHAIRMAN AGUIYI IRONSI INT. MARKET LADIPO. “ALERT AS OPPOSITION GROUP STIRS TROUBLE IN AGUIYI IRONSI MARKET Chairman, Aguiyi Ironsi International Market Traders Association, Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos State, Chief Chukwuma Onyebinanma, has raised concerns about a factional group's alleged attempts to disrupt the market's election. Onyebinanma, popularly known as Ikukuoma, said the factional group had refused to buy into measures put in place by the leadership of the market to ensure the smooth running of the election and security in the market. Rather the group led by Chief Kelechi Oputa, (A k A babaooo) , was alleged to be fabricating lies of violent attack, against Onyebinanma, with a view to tarnishing his image and good will towards the development of the market. To further champion its sinister motive, the opposition group in a petition by Uchenna Eze, popularly called baba Ido, addressed to Police accused the leadership of the association of conspiring to disenfranchise them and manipulate the upcoming election. The duo and one Izuchukwu ikeuba ( izunik)further alleged that the Onyebinanma-led government imposed it on members of the association that only those with identity cards would be allowed entrance to attend meetings held by the association and to vote in the upcoming election. However, the plans by policemen who were deceived by opposition faction,to whisk Onyebinanma to Abuja, was truncated following an intervention of Police authorities who got wind of the plan and directed Onyebinanma to be allowed to report in Abuja at a convenient time. Also, at the meeting between both parties and detectives of the IRT in Abuja, the opposition group was told to comply with measures put in place to ensure peace and stability in the market. Both parties were advised to go and settle the matter amicably, especially as election was around the corner. Preliminary investigation into the matter also showed that allegation of injuries on some purported traders were false. While the opposition group showed video clip of a member of the association's task force holding a cutlass, the video , the authenticity of its proof that it was used on one of the opposition group was questioned, following the group's inability to provide full clip of the video showing what warranted such action . Again, the video evidence was said not to have shown where the cutlass was used to harm anyone.. It was also gathered that a trader whose picture was displayed before the police as one of those injured during the August 18,2024 alleged clash, had no business with the matter at hand. When cocontacted Onyebinanma clarified that the decision to use membership identity cards as a valid means of allowing members to vote was made to prevent harassment and intimidation. He explained that the association had agreed to have a database for the market, and members had been paying annual dues and receiving identity cards. Onyebinanma emphasized that only members with identity cards would be allowed to vote in the upcoming election, adding that rather than key into the decision reached by the association, the factional group had been trying to disrupt the meeting and had petitioned the police, leading to his detention and release. According to him: "When my administration took over, it was agreed during the general meeting to have a database for the market because that is one area we have been having a problem. We did that in one month. Again, it was agreed during one of the meetings that we should adhere to the constitution, which states that what makes one a full member of the association is for one to pay their N200 monthly dues, which amounts to N2,400 annually. When we were debating if we should pay for identity cards or not, the general house said we should use the money from the annual dues to give members their identity cards. In September 2023, I told members to pay their annual dues and get their identity cards. A grace of four months was given to members to pay, and they were told that whoever did not pay by January 2024 would not be allowed to attend the meeting of February 2024, which would be for only members of the association. Everyone was reminded from last year September to January, and by February, the meeting was held peacefully. So were those of the months of March, April, and May. There was no meeting in the month of June, but in July, as we were about to hold the meeting, we got information that our opposition held a meeting overnight to disorganize our meeting. "I hinted the taskforce chairman not to allow anyone without an identity card into the meeting. After the meeting, I heard there was a problem outside the gate. I was told the opposition group stormed there, armed with dangerous objects. When they tried to empower our security and task force, one of the taskforce officials disarmed one of them and used the cutlass to scare them away." He insisted that no member of the opposition was injured as alleged by the members. He added that the photograph of the reported man published was fabricated, saying "he (man in the picture) expressed surprise when he saw his picture in the newspaper (Punch)." He added that he got an invitation from the CP Tactical unit in Surulere and the Intelligence Response Unit, Abuja, over an allegation of harassment and intimidation against him and some members of the association's taskforce. However, the Police, according to him, told both sides to resolve their differences and allow peace to reign in the market. Also throwing his weight behind the use of membership cards as a means to vote in the upcoming election, the immediate past Chairman of the association, Mr. Azuke Muogbo, said it was the only way to ensure a free and fair election. He said: "The reason for this whole issue is that the election is around the corner. It is a power tussle. They are fighting against the use of membership cards for election, whereas members of the association have agreed to use it, so as to ensure that only members vote on that day. During my predecessor's tenure, we had a similar issue. Each election committee we constituted always complained about the need to have this card, which members are supposed to present on election day." "The Local Government Chairman also complained about the two years tenure in office. This made us amend our constitution, and the three-year tenure has been passed into law. The opposition agreed. But they don't want to accept this membership card as a yardstick for voting. This is because during the election, contestants go round and get traders in Ladipo to cast their votes, and this has been a major problem." "Since there is a database, which means only members of this market will be allowed to vote. I don't want to be partisan. I want to speak as a stakeholder; we want peace in the market, and because we want peace, let us use our membership cards to cast votes. If the present Chairman has done well and is voted by the people, let him go back for a second tenure, and if he has not, let the people decide who to rule them. For us to get it right this time around, the association insists that only those with membership cards should be allowed to vote," he stated. Princess L Agbonifo @Vonnews

Breaking; ENUGU YOUTHS DENOUNCE TRADITIONAL RULER, OTHERS OVER N20M GOVT GRANT The Youths from Nkpologu community in Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State, yesterday, alerted Governor Peter Mbah over the misappropriation of N20m given to the community by his predecessor for the provision of electricity in their town alleging that their traditional ruler and others misappropriated the money. The youths who spoke in the back drop of earlier call on the governor to stop the nomination of one of their sons as a LG chairman said it became pertinent to expose their ruler based on his stand over the raging issue. According to a statement released by the leader of the youths in Enugu, Cyprain Chukwuka, former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi graciously released N20m during his era to our traditional ruler, Simeon Idu and others to provide electricity to our town but they brazenly.misappropriated the money and woefully failed to accomplish the task. " We appealed to them severally to provide electricity which our town never had but they connived with the contractor and dished out bribes to some of our town union leaders and they continued to oppress us. "We then took the case up with the government and police but all our efforts to either recover the money or make them provide the much needed electricity failed because they continued using some fraudulent people in government to thwart our genuine efforts to give electricity to our long suffering people. At a stage, they started threatening to jail all of us but somehow, we survived their threats. They were even boasting openly that the matter will be closed permanently as soon as then Governor Ugwuanyi leaves office. "We were planning to notify our new able governor, Peter Mbah of the atrocities of our traditional ruler and others when the issue of our son who was slated to me chairman of our Local government came up. This traditional ruler and his partners in crime are now devilishly using this opportunity to denounce our honest and genuine cry for justice over the killing of one of us believing that if governor hearkens to our cry, they will be exposed." He further stated that they are using this medium to cry out because they have nobody to reach out to the governor for them adding that if they had been able to get any genuine and trusted spokespersons to deliver their anger to the governor, they would not have resorted to publicising their grievances. "The youths in their voices said they massively voted for Governor Peter Mbah and we are very happy with his achievements so far in office. We are not indicting him but pointing areas where he should straighten in continuation of his commendable records which is well know to us and we will never relent in supporting him, "he stated. @Vonnews Princess Loveline

The app is designed for Africans. According to the National coordinator of AFREE, THE Dr Joshua Orabiyi, AFREE is an acronym representing five major objectives of the application which are: A: Assist: Main mission is to help people become more independent, free and educated. F: Finance: Committed to improving the financial wellbeing of users. R: Reward: Rewarding those who are committed to growth, learning and self-improvement, but lack the means to do so. We are also helping to improve lives, business development and learning, ultimately promoting unity, equality and prosperity on the continent. Furthermore, he said, all user data is encrypted and stored on servers but for security reasons, further information will not be provided. He said the rationale for the failure of many African social media networks is against the backdrop of their inability to provide real value. AFREE proposes to improve the financial situation of users by monetising within the app. Part of the advertising revenue will be used to support small and medium sized businesses within the app, and the AFREE coins received can be used for advertising campaigns and the purchase of training materials.
