I my own opinion, it is good and bad. Take these scenarios: 1. A student in his 20's just finished Uni/Poly. and was posted to another state where he can earn some money at least, for the 1st time maybe in his life and know other parts of the country. Infact some guys are very eager to do NYSC. This may be a good idea. 2. Another guy in his mid 30's, with two masters degrees and about 4 years experience in Oil and Gas sector from Europe all at the cost of Nigeria and EU. He came back to Nigeria and was told by all the oil companies to present the NYSC cert. What for God's sake? Are we encouraging talents to come back to their fatherland or discouraging them? Judge for yourself. |
ishmael: The job is to compile FORTRAN (on Linux). f77 compiles and links fine. I dont need more. Besides, I dont think f90/95 are free under GNU yet. Anyway, we both end up at the same point. The most important thing is to concentrate on how to write good numerical methods/simulation codes in FORTRAN! |
Good day, I am looking for some info on HYSYS (Process Simulation) usage/training and maybe representative company in Nigeria. Anybody with information? Thanks |

If you are REALLY interested in FORTRAN, then: 1. Get a good compiler: I use the free GNU on Linux which is f77; there should be visual compilers on Windows as well, but I cant help you with that. 2. If you want to use f77 under linux here is the way to compile: f77 -c your_file.for OR f77 -c your_file.f Thats it. The rest of the instruction depends on WHAT exactly you want to do. |
FORTRAN IS a must if: 1. You want to do something in Numerical Methods. 2. Engineering Simulation. 3. Engineer/Scientist. None of the new generation progs will be able to beat FORTRAN in these aspects. You can also write Object-Oriented codes using FORTRAN but the OO methods aere less automated in FORTRAN. |
Good day, I am relatively new to this forum. I would like to do my NYSC come February. Where is the best place to go having in mind that I would like to be retained? Thanks. |

To kafius : Thanks for the reply. 1. why were you not retained? I wish to serve there bc my aim is to gain an employment there. 2. did you gain any experience there? i mean what were your day-to-day activities? |
Hi Guys, I am MSc. degree holder from a European University and I have some experience. Due to family reasons, I have to come back to Nigeria. All the companies are asking for the NYSC Certificate. I was told that, holding a certiffcate from overseas, I can choose where to serve. Now my questions are: 1. How can one join Chevron in Nigeria for NYSC? 2. What is the address of NYSC office in Lagos and Abuja? Thank you. |
